Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying this phone second hand.
Can anyone tell me if they see water damage in this picture?
It looks like the indicator is missing, but I'm not sure
I thought who better to ask than you guys?
Thanks!

The T-mobile one came without a water sticker. But after sending for repair, they put like 15532550563 stickers on. I would just contact the seller.
Walter damage.
I was in the bathtub about 6 months ago and I fell asleep and dropped my One-S in the water. I awoke pretty quickly and sat up frantically searching for my phone. I found it because the display screen illuminated most of the water as it sat submerged.
I grabbed the phone, powered it down, opened the top backplate and hand dried the SIM card and anything else I could.
I was going to leave it to try overnight, but the thought of seeing it lit up underwater made me turn it on after 2 hours. It has worked fine ever since.

I tend to attribute it to the high quality HTC craftsmanship.
However, as much as I have been an exclusive HTC owner since the Nexus One, I think I will probably go with Samsung next (or next year's Nexus). HTC, with their capitulation to TMO in preventing S=off and other annoying things HTC has been doing as of late is forcing me to reconsider my loyalty.

It isnt as black and white as it seems, it depends what gets moist inside. One person drops it into bathtub and it still works, i had the phone quite moist all over(because of condensate) it and a month later i had to change motherboard which cost 190€
My water indicator sits between the two contracts just above and to the right of the camera, but from your photo's angle it wouldn't be visible because it's below them in the recess they're sitting in.
But thanks for the spare imei #.

Wait... what? Water indicator?
don't know about water damage but 2 things:
1) this phones blue plastic design is abit different than my S4 one s.
2) the IMEI is shown for the public as you see and i wouldn't buy phone with IMEI visible in the picture.

Do not drop this phone even with a case and screen protector.
What happen was I knock it off my desk to the wood floor and it fell on its side not on the screen and this is the result of it. Phone still works but the digitizer and LCD are both cracked. *Sigh*
At least I have insurance even if I don't want to use it.

Just don't plug it in to charge then forget and get out. I've killed two chargers this way. That is why I buy the cheap retractable ones. A) cheap to replace, B) they just snap off, IE not doing much(if any) damage to the usb port of the phone.

I must be extremely lucky. The other day I dropped my phone as I was getting in the car and the door shut right on it. I didn't slam the door very hard so it didn't latch or anythinf, but I still feared the worst. Luckily nothing was Damaged.

sorry for the lost, live and learn.
Its so hit or miss man. Ive dropped my Incredible from 5' off a breakfast bar onto tile and nothing but then you hear of others dropping on wood floors at a foot and utter destruction. It just takes that one special spot.
Hell look at the Nexus one when it first released, they had the videos showing the "Genetically altered" Glass they were using with little what looked like erasers bending the glass a million times and some sort of tumbler throwing it around to show the durability and then a week after release they said "The Nexus one should not be placed in pockets due to the high risk of stress cracks" Ahh duhh???!!!
wow i feel your pain. same happned to me with the droid 1
Did that to my EVO the second week I had it after launch. Another $100 I had to put into that phone.
No insurance on my Thunderbolt...we'll see how that plays out.
On my second one it continually manages to get huge specs of dirt under the screen.
The screen its self is starting to become unglued, when I press certain parts of the screen I can feel it lift and raise.
The most outer part of the camera glass wiggles when I put my finger on it.
I've already replaced it once due to a dead pixel, what do I do now?

Mine's being very sturdy. I do have a bit of dust under the screen, but it's almost unnoticeable. Beyond that, I've dropped this phone from about 2-3 feet onto concrete or stone 3-4 times and I don't have anything more than a few superficial dings on the corners, and a small chip in the screen at the bottom (it doesn't hamper performance in any way imaginable so I don't care). I do hate the battery door. THAT was a horrible design flaw.

My sensation fell into the pool, it works now, everything except making calls, WiFi works, and when I put in the sim card it shows my number in the settings menu, only thing is I can't make calls, as soon as I dial a number it goes back to the home screen, what part should be looked at so I can fix this?

There doesn't seem to be many parts available and they would probably be expensive, best bet would be to try and see if HTC will fix your devices out of warranty.
It will cost in order to fix it because It's your fault and It's water damaged. That isn't covered.

You are correct
are you sure that's water related? have you tried a different sim card?
Well, if you have tmobile us insurance, then your in luck since they cover ANYTHING! If not then use the rice or put it in a sealed container with damp rid.
The only other option is to dip the phone in 100% alcohol and then use the rice, but this is a last resort option. Has to be 100% alcohol or else it will cause more harm, the alcohol will displace all the moisture and help against the corrosion but remember this is a last resort option. It worked with my g1 and hd2...
Same thing happened to mine. It was in a pool of water submerged for at least 10 minutes. When I found it I immediately pulled out the battery, blew out all the water that I could with compressed air and covered it in a bowl of rice for a week. I just took it out of the bowl yesterday and everything is working flawlessly.

Circuit boards just don't like water. You can dry it out but corrosion has started the minute it felt in..

My Sensation has packed up following an unexpected dip in the sea. Efforts to get the battery out quickly not helped by the fiddly catch to get the back off.
After drying out for a day all I get is a short vibration when battery is put in followed by the reboot jingle - but nothing on screen.
As only 2 months old was hoping to get it repaired through HTC but got follwoing response
"Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your HTC Sensation.
Unfortunately, it is un-economical to repair liquid damaged phones as the cost to you may be more then the cost of purchasing a brand new phone and our repair centre will refuse to do so.
I can only advise you to see if you have any phone related insurance that you can utilize in this situation".
Is there no hope? Is there anywhere else to go for repairs?
Thanks
Did you get the respond via email conversation? If yes, i personally advice to bring your phone to service center 1st.
Their email support require intensive both technical and soft skill training.

First of all you were way too impatient. 1 day was not nearly enough time to let it dry out completely. You should have waited at least a week. Second you should have placed it in a drying agent like rice or dessicant. Third, it was salt water which is a lot harder to recover from. My recommendation is you remove the battery, soak the phone in alcohol, dry it with compressed air, place in a bowl of rice for a week and then try it again. Report back after you've tried this.

I wouldn't use meths (saw some in a Chinese Supermarket on Saturday, first time I'd seen meths in years).
Try your local pharmacies, it's rubbing alcohol.
Otherwise Maplins do it as a spray.
go to youtube find htc sensation disassembly, follow instructions.when its done use tooth brush and pure alcohol, gently clear everything but dont go over the mic and camera, leave it for 15 min for alcohol to dry,put everthing back and your phone will work!
working in mobile phone repair shop so i know
u can use 96% alcohol.
While I wouldn't go as far as recommending purposely taking your Sensation for a swim, mine has amazingly improved battery life since it was resurrected.

I guess I'm one of those people, I buy a phone and I will never buy a case. My reasoning...I bought a phone for xxx.xx, I want to look at my phone not a case!
Anyway, I never bought a case for this phone, it was sexy. I have dropped this phone in almost every angle possible, every surface I've walked. No, I'm not that wobbly, just happens over the period of time
I even dropped it screen first on a pavement. This phone remains intact, barely any scratches and with every new rom I install, god I fall in love again(or something like that xD).
Just curious, is it just me..or is every MT4G built so damn strong?

Have owned mine since it first came out, have dropped it a million times, always holding my breath expecting the screen to crack or something crazy like it won't turn on anymore, but it just keeps taking it like a champ. No case also, battle wounds to prove it...have seen friends drop their phones (not mt4gs) relatively soon after purchasing them and cracking screens...thought I was just lucky with my drops so far but lets me relax a bit knowing I'm not the only one....

Back when I was delivering auto and truck parts, I'd keep my phone on my leg (for GPS) and forget about it when I got out of my truck on occasion. I don't understand how all of you end up dropping your MT4Gs that often. I have had this phone for about 1.5 years and dropped it once, and then I got a case for it (slipped out of my pocket while taking it out). Never dropped it again.
Then again, I'm glad to know that if I ever do drop it again, it will take the impact like a champ.
yea my phone has fallen so many times without a case and has never taken any damage to the screen. My friend on the other hand, got a glacier about a year ago and the screen was completely smashed when it fell off his lap while he was sitting on the floor.

You guys will get a kick out of this then. Like others here, I've dropped it, thrown it(accidentally), all without little more than a scratch on the back. It takes a beating and keeps coming back for more. He even started intentionally throwing his phone on the ground it and still rocks it strong.
Anyone experience the battery cover peeling. I know my phone gets hot now that I am running custom rom but I started noticing that the back cover is peeling and don't know if it causing the phone to get hotter or is caused by it. and as far as dropping the phone i could only consider dropping it twice the other times have been dropped in a carpet which doesn't do much except get the battery door out. Double poster! Lol.
Yeah my wife and I both are experiencing this. There is also a thread about scraping if off after it starts peeling because they seemed to have put that top layer on as an after-thought. So it's common enough.
Let's see...
Dropped face first on concrete. Replaced scratched screen protector.
Dropped face first on concrete (again).
Chrome surround came loose. Snapped it back no problem.
Dropped on hardwood floor and then accidentally kicked across the room, rebounding off my coffee table and into my end table.
No damage.
I love this phone...

I pretty much have a lot of friends with the same phone as mine (MT4G) I've seen many painful things, my friend who has one slammed his phone on a corner desk repeatedly and yet it didn't have a scratch or bump, I dropped my phone many times too. When I herd my cousin broke her mytouch I was shocked because I thought it was impossible to break it. Then I realized she broke a lot of her phones such as the sensation, iphone 3gs, iphone 4, G1 and broke a cheap phone and dropped her last phone in the toilet. She has a iPhone4S now and i hope she doesn't break that one ;-:

Luckily it had an aftermarket dual layer case that protects the usb port and headphone jack. I quickly pulled it out but noticed it was still on and touchscreen worked fine. I then proceeded to remove the case, dry it with my shirt, turn it off and burry it in a bag full of rice. Its been in it for about 7 hours now, and as I read around the internet all I found was ppl whose electronics (mostly ipods) had been underwater for waaaaay longer, so I dont have like an exact time to wait cuz I dont know how long I should leave it there. This is the first time ever I have dropped a phone (or any electronic besides headphones) on water so Im kinda unclear about things here, so any suggestion is appreciated! Thanks in advanced!
Unless u find moisture beneath the screen, no water has seeped through and you are good to go. U needen't have put it in water either..

When I got mine wet (got caught in a storm when out running) I left it in the bag of rice on a radiator for 24 hours. It was perfect when it came out, but I was probably just being paranoid.
Well my main reason for putting it in rice was cause I was worried about the headphone jack, usb/charging port, mic and speakers. I know the last thing I should do is put it to charge after its been drowned in water and my battery was low so I said what the hell n put it in the rice. So by now would it be dry enough to put it to charge and test mic, speakers and headphone jack? Or should I leave it a bit longer? Btw thanks for ur quick replies!
I'd leave it overnight.

It can't hurt o leave it longer, it CAN hurt to take it out too soon, so.... I'd certainly err on the side of caution....

Cheers! I watched a torture test for the one x, and it seemed to hold up pretty well in water. Apparently, that holds true! My gfs iPhone 4s took a swim and drowned. She said the phone hit the water and the screen turned off immediately, never to turn back on.

damn, they seemed to fix that with the 5 though, a friend's iphone 5 fell on his fish tank for about 15 seconds (he said) and he didnt put it in rice or anything and it was working fine when i used it but as for my one x, im gonna keep it in the case just in case xD but i can sure confirm its resistant to water after the incident!
Yeah, if you watch, Always On with Molly Wood water torture test for the iPhone 4s or iPhone 5, they looked water proof enough to take pictures while scuba diving. However, back here in reality.....

My HTC Aria took a tumble in a front loading washer for 45 minutes once. When I pulled it out the screen was still on. Granted, it died 5 minutes later...

I know its a moot point, and the OP is already using the phone again, but just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents for the benefit (or not) of others:
There doesn't seem to be a silver bullet to how long to dry the device, whether it will still work, etc. It all seems to be luck of the draw.
The fact the phone was only submerged a couple seconds likely is a big factor. Even though nearly all phones are not designed to be waterproof, they are closed up fairly tight. So it takes some time for water to penetrate the casing, and the more water that gets in, the more likely it will get in some area where it will cause a short. So the less time under water, the better.
If it were me, I'd leave the phone in rice for a couple days (I always have at least one older backup device for situations like this, or otherwise breaking or losing a phone). Particularly for devices that are difficult to open up, its going to take a long time for moisture to evaporate and be absorbed by the rice. Small amounts of water will evaporate pretty easily in a couple hours, if fully exposed to the air. But enclosed inside a plastic casing . . . not so much. Even surrounded by rice and with some mild heat, I'd still put the dry time in days, not hours.
And in the end, its really just a crap shoot on whether the device will even work or not (or work partially). My wife dropped her iPhone 5 in the toilet for just a second or 2, some time before Christmas. She did power it off, but did not put it in rice (was at work, and didn't really have access). She made an appointment with the Genius Bar at the local Apple store. They took the phone apart (didn't even know they did that there) and cleaned it up best they could. They told my wife there was no rhyme or reason on whether it will work, or for how long. But my wife powered the phone on that same day, and has been using it ever since, and it seems perfectly ok.
