You can flash a custom kernel like Zarboz's Bricked Beastmode, and then use kernel governors like intelidemand or SmartAssV2. Search the dev threads and read up on kernels.
How many hours are you getting with normal-heavy use??
Do you know what the ratio is, like loosing 1% every 5 mins of heavy usage?

With really heavy load (demanding game + powering a 400mA usb controller, wifi on) my device drains... well I cant be arsed to calculate per minute, but after 2.5h its drained 80-90% of the battery.

Who said you can't root?
Ginger break v1.2 after alpharevx s-off

Settings> Audio> pocket mode off, vibration feedback off, other stuff that might use the proximity and the G sensor off.
Also check your installed apps some of them tend to stay active even after you "quit" them (you can't actualy quit). Download "system panel" for that, and you will see in te left of an app if it uses the cpu Even if an app is there is not actualy draining battery, only if it uses the cpu.
So don't use task killers, they will only drain you more battery.
I keep my screen on auto brightness, and i still get 2 days.
Hope i helped you.
Though I just S-off and rooted but will still try out what you guys say
Thanks

I don't have a problem with my Desire S regarding the battery, i mainly use it for sms and few calls disabled wifi, bluetooth, brightness very low, disabled key tones, and vibrate. For 12hrs i still have 94% batt life left..

Leedroid ROM, and unity kernel = awesome combination.
I get really really good battery life
At least much better than stock!
I'm using LBC mod, the newest released version works wonders for the battery!
the max have gotten so far with all the tweaking n stuff is like about 12hrs . . . .is there something wrong with the battery or am i missing something?

I used to have this problem constantly. I'm not lucky when it comes to battery life.
Could be the battery. Try LBC v0.6 and get setcpu. See if that helps if you haven't done so already.
Unity kernel sucked my battery dry.

Am on miui rite now with cm7 kernel ....I used the unity kernel b4 and no improvement on battery life
LBC rom have also tried and that also zaps battery
Kinda surprised how people get to use their desire s for.up to 2 days

Have you tried the tiamat kernel? Also, I recommend investing in Tasker to squeeze the most out of your battery. Simply having it automatically go into airplane mode when you sleep helps. Get it (like me) turning auto-sync on for 2 minutes every 15 minutes aswell, and you get over 24 hours battery with heavy use.

On second inspection. Yes LBC is still draining my battery dry. You're not alone. It's beautiful when screen off, but as soon as the screen is on, and its like 1% per minute. Scary.

I had this problem when still on stock ROM and had a few widgets collecting data in the background. It wasn't all that severe though; I had to charge the phone once a day. Since I installed LBC mod, I only have to charge the phone every two days
Use this to track down the battery drain...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats
And/or this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1031124
If it's data traffic related this'll point you at which specific app is using it...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.radioopt.widget&feature=search_result
Then either un-install the culprit, or try different kernel, or freeze the sucka using Titanium Backup. See if that helps. Either way, would be interested to know what you discover.
1% per minute is scary drain I agree. Something not quite right there. You're not OC to silly levels are you?
Yes, the new lbc ROM gas a drainage problem... Mine was dropping very fast. Switched back to leedroid, great battery life again! (Stock kernel) I also use setcpu
I reckon it could last me 2 days moderate usage, and 3 light usage!

Any suggestions on what to do to get the best of both worlds...preferably I'd like to stick with my current rom (latest InsertCoin) but I'm willing to change...anything that could help such as kernels or any tweaks..Thanks!

Have you done the normal thing by turning off GPS and data transfer, use a 2G network setting, and turned off fastboot?
I've got the Anker battery and this combo lasts days. I'm using ARHD but I don't think that makes a huge difference.
change the voltage

Use some app like setcpu, or any other that shows cpu frequencies. You can find them on market.

Yeah I'd say install something like setcpu and have it on power saver if you are trying to make the battery last longer.

Turning GPS off doesn't really save much battery at all I think, I believe it only activates when needed i.e. when you open Maps.

Just wondering if it's possible to control the cores on this phone individually? I'm interested in using only one core until both are needed, primarily only one core while phone is idle/sleep to save battery life. I've seen many other devices already use this mod including the HTC Evo 3D with similiar specs which claims 50+/hr battery life. Could this be ported to the Sensation?
Try system tune pro has a lot of power
Sent from my Sensation 4G using xda premium
Try a custom kernel, such as bricked or faux. By right only one core should be online until the second one is needed. Having said that, I think getting 50+ hours battery life on the Sensation is quite impossible unless you don't use your phone at all. The screen eats up battery like there's no tomorrow.

How you getting so much time on battery I am going from 100% to 0 in 8hrs
I do have WiFi on 100% and moderate uses
Sent from my Sensation 4G using xda premium
Bricked kernel with badass governor or Faux's with intellidemand governor saves a lot of juice. 50+ hrs (OP) IMO is only achievable with an aftermarket battery (e.g. Anker), but the phone must be mostly in idle mode/deep sleep.

Is anybody else having really bad battery life on ICS? Anybody know how to extend it a little? Cuz it is going down 25 % in an hour when its in sleep mode its crazy, I'm trying to figure out what is using all that power and I have had no luck.
What rom/ kernel combo are you using right now?

Are you sure your getting deep sleep? Use better battery stats from here so it's free and see if there are any wake locks and to check what speed the cpu used the most

I need a way to debug my phone and figure out what is causing such high CPU usage and poor battery life. After startup, my phone sticks at 100% until it freezes and restarts but sometimes I get lucky and it goes down a few percentages but freezes again when I start multi tasking a bit. I don't know what changed. Any app to debug or log what's going on?
Also my phone will read a low battery amount and when I restart, it jumps up 20-30 points

Search for better battery stats here on xda. That would be a good point to start... But dont put too much effort in breaking down what the issue might be, just go and buy an anker

I've been using various apps (android system info, better battery stats, battery stats plus, watchdog) and I'm getting nothing. Nothing is hogging my cpu at all...
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
Install Wake Lock Detector to find out which process is hogging your CPU time.
From what I can tell, all the normal startup apps (mesages, facebook, widgets), are using full amount of CPU. All of them. The blue bars were full. That's for the few minutes after startup being 100% usage. Still investigating the random spikes that occurs while using my phone. It's a matter of being able to open and use this app as my phone becomes unresponsive
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
So I've been running apps and periodically monitoring my CPU. When it starts to get above 80% on both 0 and 1, I check what's up with wakelock detector and it doesn't even list the app I'm using when my cpu spikes like dolphin. It happens often with dolphin, tumblr, games. But they don't appear in wakelock.
The apps that do appear are barely doing anything
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
Maybe you'll also find the CPU Spy Reborn app useful to monitor CPU load over long periods of time
I found someone with a very similar problem, only it's happening even with mobile network disabled
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/203542-100-cpu-usage-but-doesnt-add-up.html
But how huge describes it is pretty much my problem except in addition I'm having the startup problem of CPU stuck on 100% until out freezes and restarts again

What's your battery ?
4 hours is very low. Maybe you need new battery..
And which rom exactly do you use ?
I used Inspiration 1.0.1 for a log time and i had the best battery life on this rom. it works fine with lower CPU/GPU frequency. Vipers 5.0.0 also seems to have nice battery life (i'm on it now).
