[Q] Desire S touchscreen not respondig after ICS RUU upgrade - HTC Desire S

Hi,
I've a strange problem.
At the last day I tried to upgrade my DS with RUU (stock ICS rom, downloaded form the offical HTC site)
The flashing finished successfully, after system boot up I can't do anything. The touch screen simply not working.
I tried with some other ICS based custom rom via CWM, but no one works.
After that I tried a JB based ROM, it's worked, but it was very very very slow. When I touched the screen, the response coming after 2-3 seconds.
When I downgrade to 2.3.5 everything works fine. Why is that? Please help me! Very many thanks!!!

The Desire S comes with two types of display panels, Sony and Hitachi.. The majority of the devices have Sony panels and almost all custom ROMs are aimed at it. So hitachi panel owners are at a disadvantage. Most of the time the device doesn't boot. You need to check your panel. There are several posts in the development forum about it.

That's just wrong.
1. Only jb roms (and balele) have any issues with non-Sony panel support
2.if there is a problem with that, the rom will not boot, so that isnt anything to do with this thread

Thanks guys for your replies. Yes, I read out a thread, about the LCD panels, and there is no posts about conflicts with ICS.
So what should i do, what do you think about it?
Do you have any advice to me?
Thanks a lot!

UPDATE: I tried some different ICS based custom ROM, but no one works. Today, I tried the Virtuous Quattro ROM, and it works. Can you tell me, what's the difference between this ROM, and the others? Thanks a lot!

Can u try installing 4ext recovery and full wipe , and flash fallout evolution rom (most stable ics )? Cwm gave me problems like that

Definitely 4ext is far better than CWM. Never misses a shot since I have first installed

I tried it, but no luck. The same happend.
My problem is not about the CWM, because my first tryings was the original RUU from the HTC site.
I'm absolutely bushed...

[Q] Questions after 3 days of reading Forums

Hi,
First post (yay!) so I have a few questions:
1. Where is the 'thanks' button? There are loads of you I wanted to thank but it has not shown up on my forums where the help section said it would be. Has shown up now - guess I had to make a post before I could thanks people
2. I have the emmc chip that is prone to failure but after reading the forums it seems there may be a way to recover from it - is that right, and the chip is no longer a big problem? (Absolutely cannot afford to brick this phone as it's a present from a wife already angry that I rooted it)
3. Should I try to upgrade my HBOOT to 2.00.2002 and Radio (to what? the PCIMG88.zip from the Chinese website?) and install a new ROM, or try and revert everything back to s-on, unrooted stock rom and wait for the official update that is rolling out now in the UK? I'd prefer the option with the least chance of stress and bricking the phone.
4. After flashing a new ROM (if I do) I understand I should avoid updating/installing apps at the same time so my emmc chip isn't fried - can I reinstall 1 by 1 from Titanium backup, and won't Google start trying to download and install everything else at once? How do I avoid that?
I'm in the UK on T-Mobile PAYG with (I think) an unbranded Desire S

4.if u restore all apps with titanium backup at once its ok, i think..
but when u setup your phone dont add google account to sync your app..
restore your apps and then add it..
take a look to ben_pyett signature for some useful links..
Theses are just my opinions
Thanks button to bottom right of each post next to edit button,
Don't bother upgrading you're hboot to 2.xx.xxxx (not yet any benefit)
Don't bother going back to s-on.
Don't pull battery.
I'd try to install the normal ENG bootloader over your revolutionary one if you can.
I'd also suggest installing the 4 EXT recovery instead of Cwm.
Don't do anything to you're device that you don't fully understand.
You've done the most difficult part making your device s-off now install some quality custom roms and enjoy it.
Always take full nandroid device backups prior to performing any steps on your device, so that you have a safe point to roll back to in case of problems.
When installing a new custom ROM don't enter your google account details until the last stage of the setup after the device had stopped all configuration, then go into the market app and check to see of it's installing any apps, if it is then cancel downloads, only some versions of market attempt the parallel download of several apps which has been linked to killing eMMC. Later one download one application at a time which seems ok..add suggested advice I also use titanium backup app to restore my apps after the new installation of a ROM rather than relying on market installs.
There is now more information on the eMMC issue, what was previously thought of a dead device can now be recovered but each instance is unique.
Enjoy

Guys,
Thanks for the replies - when I asked about the Thanks button it wasn't there, it only appeared after I posted so that is sorted now.
Ben, I do have 4EXT already installed and a backup, this isn't my first android phone but I would still class myself as a noob - I think I know what I'm doing generally but probably don't.
I think I might try for the ENG Hboot if I can find that post but I thought I would need the 2.00.2002 Hboot for sense 3.0 roms.
What is the advantage of the ENG Hboot over the revolutionary one?
Also, I'm wondering if I will receive an OTA option to update since I have s-off and rooted - I'm pretty sure I should not accept as it looks like some people have been experiencing problems trying to install the OTA over their non-stock phones/settings.
Can anyone confirm that:
1) my phone would see the update if it rolls out and
2) I should not install it unless I go back to stock rom and s-on?
Installing a new ROM will alert my wife to the fact I have rooted it so I'm in no hurry until I decide I can't live without some spectacular new features
Yep, DO NOT INSTALL THE OTA
^when you are rooted and s-off.
It will lead to problems.
I'd really suggest you try out Hyperion ROM/Saga 3D
They are like the stock ROMs with sense 3.0 (new OTA based)
They are optimised and better than the stock ota anyway

You shouldn't even consider OTA updates unless you're S-ON and STOCK....
certainly don't try it on a rooted device, just asking for trouble...I always simply disable the check for updates and Tell HTC features..
There are benefits to having ENG HBOOT (although I'm not 100% of all of them) I believe that you're able to downgrade easier, should you require the HBOOT number also doesn't stand out like a sore thumb......6.xx.xxxx should you want to return device!
All the new Sense 3.0 and Sense 3.5 ROMS work on old HBOOT, so just no point in upgrading, I did the upgrade before I released this and it's not worth going back.
EDIT: You also need to have a word with the misses! It's now your phone so you should be able to do what you want to it - whatever makes you happy!!

Oh, just wondering, as i never saw the update posted officially...
So if it is official, why does the official sense 3.0 rom not make full use of the new partitions?

I believe this is because the cooks have made it this way.....My understanding is that the "official" S-On OTA upgrade installs the new version HBOOT and makes use of this new layout.
Someone correct me if this is wrong?

Oh right !
How can a OTA install a new hboot, radio, and complete new UI, but the user doesn't lose any data ?!
It's strange .. when we want to upgrade, we have to do a full wipe

Unable to use firmware 3.24,3.30, 3.32

Hello. I'm trying to run various ICS roms that require firmware 3.24 or more(Android Revolution HD for example and numerous others). For a while I was running Virtuous Inquisition on 3.12 firmware but wanted to try some others out so I downloaded the 3.30 firmware found on the firmware for beginners topic page.
I am using the correct firmware because I know what my CID/MID are:
cid:T-MOB010
mid: PG5810000
However, no matter what ROM i use, I tried VI, Revolution HD, Blitz, on either 3.24 or 3.30 or 3.32, I always get stuck in a bootloop. VI gets stuck on a bootloop on any firmware besides 3.12. What do I need to do to get the higher firmwares to work?
This is what my bootloader screen shows on the top when on firmware 3.12. If you guys need more information just ask and I'll post it when I can.

Hi,
Have you had a look at THIS THREAD ?
Yes I have. Using this thread I found the firmware that is supposed to work with my phone using the CID I found using the information in that thread. However, the firmwares listed for my thread that are 3.24 onward do not work for any of the ROMs I have tried. Only 3.12 and 1.17 work for me. I'm not sure why this is.
I'm quite noob but probably you need to be supercid to flash some roms. You can follow the guide (in development forum 2nd sticky thread). Good luck
Strange you have locked bootloader btw.
Follow guide for superCID to see if that helps?

Well, looks like I have a similar problem...
I'm SuperCID, and till this morning, I was running VI 3.5.1b.
Seeing on the VI thread that the latest firmware could be run with it, I upgraded to 3.32... and since then, I'm stuck in an bootloop.
I tried everything : rolling back to 3.24 and to 3.12 ; changing roms ; wiping everything I could ; but i won't help.
Most of the times, I'm stuck at the HTC Splashscreen ; VI and Tripnice (yeah, even tried that one) go to the boot animation, then reboot. So I'm at a loss here as to what to do to fix it. Any help would be very welcome and appreciated !

Well in such case I would extract the rom.zip from the official RUU (I hope you know how to do) and flash it as PG58IMG. Then start again the whole procedure.
Go to [ROM]Shipped Pyramid ROM Collection thread and dowload the RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.30.401.1_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_
Sorry but I cannot post links right now.
You won't lose superCID and S-OFF so it worths trying.
I have made my phone superCID and will now try to run the higher firmwares and see if that works this time around. I'll let you guys know if anything changes thanks for the help thus far

Yup, still got access to both of them. I resolved my problem by flashing both the firmware and the latest rom from He Who Must No Be Named... For a reason I still don't grasp, it seems that the firmwares I flashed previously didn't downgrade the bootloader, or something like that. Trip's one, however, is a waaaay bigger file and seems to rewrite a huge amount of things.
Don't know yet if I could switch back to VI harmlessly, though...
Sorry- of course you can reach bootloader, you listed it in your OP! Tired...
Something strikes me, you have hboot 1.23, I know this version causes issues with s-on users that have accepted OTA updates.
Have you run s-off via revolutionary in the past? Unlocked via htc.dev (which I think gives hboot 1.23)?
Does recovery work?

After reading more around the forums I'm pretty sure I need a custom firmware. One with the HBOOT of 3.12 but the rest of the files of a 3.32 firmware. How would I go about doing this?
I wouldn't mess things more than this.
I would go back to GB first.
Download the appropriate official RUU for your device and run it on the pc until appears the picture of a phone and "show readme file). Leave this window open.
then go to "My computer"-disk C (or wathever)- Documents and settings-name of computer (or your name)- local settings - Temp.
There you will find a folder or more folders with a weird name ie: {040EEDE2-371A-4BF6-8D25-1B12121F8D9E}.
Inside one of this folder you will find a file "rom.zip". do not extract, just drag and drop somehere in your pc.
Now close the RUU windows by clicking cancel.
Now rename "rom.zip" in PG58IMG and put in the root of your SD card.
Reboot your phone by pressing vol down+power.
At this point the file PG58IMG will be detected you will be asked to update. Say yes by pressing volume up.
Be patient as it will take a lot of time, don't touch or do anything until it has finished. a lot of files will be flashed and screen may goes black a couple times.
Dont worry and wait until it will say "press power to reboot".
Now you should be back to stock GB and start all procedures to upgrade once more if you like.
Remember then to delete the PG58IMG on the SD card.
When you will set your phone again, remember to untick fastboot for future use.
Hope it helps
PS: Forgot to say that by doing this you will lose root (not S-OFF and superCID) but you can easly re-root your device by following the guides in the forum.
So I managed to flash back to 3.32 and VI 4.0 after 2 days of mercyless bootlopping.
What I did was :
1- superwipe everything, flash latest TripOS rom
2 - reboot to bootloader and flash Trip's latest firmware (this way, I knew I woul have both a matching rom and matching firmware, avoiding incompatibility issue). Trip's firmware rewrites a huge amount of things, and that seems to put an end to what was causing my bootloops.
3 - reboot and let the phone alone for 10 minutes, just to let everything settle right.
4 - reboot to recovery
5 - Superwipe again
6 - flash my rom (in my case, VI 4.0)
7 - power off, and boot to bootloader
8 - flash 3.32 firmware
9 - reboot and let the phone still for 10 minutes
So far everything runs perfectly (I just have a splash screen saying "Trip'n Nice" on it) and it saved me from going into the process of flashing a RUU, rooting the RUU, installing recovery and so on. Give it a try, it might work for you to.
Looks like He has HBOOT 1.23, so I suspect He's using HTC-Dev method to unlock the boot loader or running FOTA that maybe gives him HBOOT 1.23.
Since Revolutionary could only S-OFF up to HBOOT 1.18, so maybe He just need to wait till Revolutionary support HBOOT 1.23 (the only options, maybe next year )
BTW, what are You doing that causing You to have HBOOT 1.23?
problem is that his bootloader shows ***Locked***.
If you go through htc-dev it would have shown ***Unlocked***.
This is why I would start from the beginning flashing a GB RUU and then start again the upgrade process.
My humble opinion, of course

you can install a RUU. A RUU will make your phone stock again. look for your correct RUU by checking your CID
Code:

1. you can always flash a ARHD custom ROM. It's appearance is identical to stock and you're much better of if you consider the effort. check the ARHD thread by mike1986 for details, downloads and how-to's
2. if you can't find a specific RUU for your device then find one that matches your FW and radio version. use the extracted ROM flash method from the RUU-link I posted to flash the ROM. this method is considerebly more effort and risk for failure. so when u choose to do this, read everything carefully and know what you're doing before doing it
I suggest going for opt 1

[Q] Weird Problem Flashing ROM's

Hey guys,
I've been searching the net for a solution and couldn't find one so here I am...
My brother has a Desire S (SAGA) and for some reason I can't flash any JB ROM on it...And I've tried everything I know with no luck.
Some details, the phone use to have Android 4.0.4 with HBOOT 2.00.0002, I've used HTCDev to unlock the bootloader and then did root and CWM Recovery with no hassle. (so the phone was rooted with S-On).
I've tried to flash a new JB 4.2.2 ROM and got stuck on the white HTC logo screen.
Tried another 4.2.2 ROM, same thing...Did a little research and some people said I should flash the boot.img of the ROM I'm flashing as the phone is still S-On, so I did (I have the One X so I'm familiar with this) - No luck.
After that I thought the problem was my HBOOT being too new so I downgraded the phone back to HBOOT 98.xxx and then used the Revolutionary method to obtain S-Off and Root (the HTCDev way gave me errors) so now I'm S-Off with HBOOT 6.98.1002.
Tried again to flash a bunch of new 4.2.2 ROM's - No luck !
Now for the weird part (for me) - I CAN flash any ROM up to v4.0.4 (right now I managed to flash CM9) - anything newer and I get stuck on the white HTC screen (also tried v4.1).
Ohh, I also tried re-partitioning the SD card to FAT, FAT32, made EXT3 partition, EXT4 partition, Linux Swap - nothing worked.
Now I'm thinking of flashing the HBOOT to 7.00.1002 version but I'm not sure its the problem so I decided to post here hoping for an educated answer.
Anyone knows whats the deal here?? any suggestion will help.
Thanks in advance !
Change your hboot to 7.0.....
Your problem is that you have a Hitachi panel instead of a Sony.
I don't understand...Changing to HBOOT 7.00.1002 is going to help or are you sure its a problem with the panel?
How can I check who made the panel?

Use the search engine?
Non-Sony Screen Panel Desire S Users Lounge + How-To
And use your common sense about a user's reputation as to which advice you take.
I already found that thread and as it turned out I do have the Hitachi panel....
Now I'm trying out ROM's with the fix provided on that thread hoping to find a good one for my brother's DS.
Considering my panel is Hitachi, should I Change the HBOOT to version 7.00.1002 ? I mean, will it change anything ?
Thanks!

For the roms that don't need a /system/lib partition, going with the newer hboot doesn't change anything, apart from the fact that IIRC the /cache partition is smaller to make room for the extra /system/lib partition on the 2GB emmc. However, if you intend to flash a rom that requires a /system/lib partition, which is all MIUI roms and Desire XS IIRC, then you must flash the newer hboot. For other roms, like I said, it doesn't matter apart from that the space allocated to the /system/lib partition is wasted, which does not matter in any way.
I think that you must try changing your CWM and try to flash latest CWM in your HTC Desire S .. May Be It Will Solve Your Problem
