Yes Q&A should be good. It's just that the developer section is strictly for threads sharing ROMs, Kernels, guides, radios, and some mods.
Don't worry though. A moderator should move this thread there for you in a little bit. No sweat.

Sounds like you forgot to fastboot the boot.img from the rom.zip

yeah you're right..I was thinking the boot.img is automatic but no...thank you!!

[Q] How to S-on HTC Desire S after Revolutionary S-off to make OTA update to Sense3.0

Here is the question, that many people interested (i think so):
how to install last OTA update from HTC (not to flash dev ROM) on Revolutionary S-offed Desire S?
From different threads i read, that there is 2 ways:
1. Change HBOOT to 0.98.2002 (but it needs to wipe all the data?) and run update.
2. S-on device (what is the best way to do it?) and run update.
For example, my device conf.:

You really should search before asking questions. This thread was in the first 10 in this section, yet you started another one. (works for revolutionary too)
Also, post all questions in general or q&a section.

Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read the links in this post to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.

There is no way you can FAQ everything and to keep FAQ up to date is pain in the ass. Treat this thread as a chat.
Why wouldn't you SuperCID?
I put a question in the firmware/partition thread yesterday, still no answer so I'll kick off by asking it again.
I see a lot of people getting trouble with their CID when installing firmware, and the firmware package is constantly updated with new CID's, however it seems prudent to become SuperCID anyway.
Is there a reason for not wanting SuperCID? From my understanding it's just a "label" in the phone, so it doesn't affect signal strength / how good your radio works etc. So it seems weird to want to avoid SuperCID. Am I right?
The only reason I can think of is in case of warranty returns or so. But why are so many (with a working device) trying to install firmware with their original CID then?
I hope someone understands my question.

Thanks for offering to help. I am seeing a trend here that questions are simply ignored. I am a beginner in this 'root' thing. Though I successfully rooted my previous phone HTC Desire.
I had asked a query in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436663 but nobody has answered it.
I will be obliged if you could kindly answer my question. TIA!

Yes you are right, If you want to go back to S-on sometime (which you'll only want in case of warranty returns), you'll need official firmware/hboot. However, S-on is a dangerous process, people have bricked their devices doing it.
The official firmware from that thread can be used for other purposes as well (If you're phone works better, you can switch to stock ROM/firmware and leave it S-off), but if you're not having troubles, I see no need to do that.
Also, you can make a NANDroid backup of your phone after you have rooted/S-off/CWM, so switching to Stock ROM won't be a problem.
For now, I wholeheartedly recommend Custom ROMs with the appropriate firmware.

S-on goes wrong if you do it on rooted phone only by the looks of it. Although, any of this nodding businessis potentially dangerous, all you can do is to learn as much as you can to minimise possibility of a brick.

And usually if you use an earlier RUU it will prompt you eventually for an OTA that will get up back to where you belong.

Do you mean can you replace the launcher with something that is different/more compact?
You can always try a different desktop launcher like Go Launcher or ADW but you will lose your ability to use Sense widgets. I don't know of anyone that has modified Sense Launcher to allow folders.
I don't want other launchers - sense stock is good, but I need something other for all programs menu - actually i've found AppFolders.
I just want to remap action on left button to app folder, for example. Is it possible in sense?

It is completely possible as the EVO people have done it as so:

But I don't see that option in the mod forums for us. I would even ask tommytomatoe how to do it for the Sensation.

Cyanogen updates are like Fight Club.
Rule number 1. You don't talk about Cyanogen updates.
Rule number 2. You don't talk about Cyanogen updates.
That aside.....CM9 is being worked on. That's the only update there is. It'll get here when it gets here. (And yeah...I'm drooling with anticipation too and it drives me bonkers that I have no idea when we'll get to see it But that's the way Cyanogen rolls.)

Unofficial AOKP - any bugs ?

Hello,
sorry for creating new topic.
I'm pretty new here, and can't reply in development section.
Are there any known bugs with AOKP with HTC Desire S ?
Mainly i mean:
wifi hotspot, camera, gps
Ok, so whats the procedure ?
1, Download 4 ext from their site ?
2, Follow directions presented here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1616719
3, That's all ?
Do i need to S-OFF first ?

In order to install a custom ROM you either need to unlock your boot loader (using the HTC Dev method or another method) or have S-Off
As for if there are any bugs, the best way to find out is to read the thread or try the ROM yourself. If it is an ICS ROM there are likely to be bugs but should still be fine for day to day use, with the occasional error or freeze up
Sent from my Desire S using xda app-developers app
If you want to install custom ROM via the HTC dev unlock method follow this guide:

I personally think for a n00b its the easier option, but that's IMHO.

Quick question regarding official ROM

Hi guys
Just trying to put a new ROM on my HTC Desire S, I have been using Cyanogenmod 7.2 and was trying to get either the official UK MIUI 4.0 ROM or Cyanogenmod 10 (experimental) working, both installed but neither would boot (stuck on HTC boot screen).
Managed to get an old MIUI running on it for the time being but still want one of the ones above.
My question is, do I need to upgrade to the official android 4.0 ROM first before either of the custom ones will work? I have it downloaded and ready to install but I'm worried that it will un-root my phone, lock my bootloader and uninstall my recovery
Currently I have
SAVA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0002
Any other tips? Really want a custom android 4.0 rom
Thanks
Chris
Also, one more question, do you think it's because of my recovery that the ROM's won't boot after installing? I am using 4ext but I've tried to install clockworkmod using ROM manager but it continues to load up to 4ext, not sure if this will actually make a difference.

OP is another person who doesn't want to actually search or read before asking questions.
Read Ben's Index thread. The reason people like Ben put so much effort into creating threads like that is so that people like the OP can read and find all the information they need before asking the same questions that dozens of other lazy people have asked before.
Look at S-ON, boot.img, hBoot, LCD Panel type etc - make sure that your phone is in a condition where it is capable of running the newer ROMs.

I gave you four key things to check (although the first two are kinda linked). If any one of those things is not correct for the ROM you are trying to install then you will fail to boot. Those things are relevant to EVERYBODY installing a ROM, even more so for any of the newer ROMs.

Are there any instructions for installing CyanogenMod 10? I had a good look through the thread but couldn't find any, I understand that there are specifics depending on which ROM but when there's no obvious instructions it's quite difficult.
Thanks
Edit: It has to be flashing the boot.img file after flashing the ROM, I seem to remember having to do that before.
Thanks for everyone's help, I knew it was something obvious I was missing.
In the index thread there is this. Step 4, been said too many times.
The reason guys like u get stuck is because u jump straight to dev section and say there is no proper instruction there.
All the proper instructions and need to know is in the general section and index. Read those first before proceeding to dev section and u will do fine.

Rain987 is right. I also think this is the reason why you need 10 posts to be allowed to post in dev section. Little bit offtopic, but okay :/
