Clockwork Mod 14.4.6 Backup Problem - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi people. So before I try to flash a rom I would make a backup of my rom which is Embryo 6.1. I would probably go back to embryo after flashing a new rom like jellybam and when I try to restore it, it gives me an error when restoring the system. It would say error when restoring /system. I would have to restore a backup from an older clockwork mod and reflash embryo. I have tried reflashing clockwork mod but that didn't work. I also tried toggling /preload in misc nandroid settings but it still didn't work. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance

You shouldn't be using outdated recoveries and if it is a recovery issue your should reflash the recovery...

I'm using the latest Clockwork Mod and I did reflash the latest one.

Ask inside the recovery thread ...

could be a bad backup. I've had it happen before with TWRP.

I've tried to backup multiple times. When I restore the backup, it gives me the same error

Make sure the recovery isn't looking for a md5 if you didn't create one in the back up.

The update.zip is something I always keep on my SD card.
From stock, just reinstall packages and then flash the rom. Also always keep a TiBu backup off your phone.
Restoring takes minutes - the most annoying part is just redoing your widgets

Issues with md5 mismatch when restoring data through CWM

alright, so I have tried to restore full backups and advanced restoring /data through CWM both through bhundven's kernel and drhonk's kernel and for some reason i've gotten the md5 mismatch error everytime...i have no idea what is causing it, anyone have any ideas?
I believe, not 100% sure, that only on bhunds kernel can you successfully do backups n restore through cwm so that might be why it isn't working with Dr.honks kernel

I'd be weary with the backup/restore function though. I wasn't able to do it on CWM 5.x.x.x. It sent my phone into a ridiculous bootloop, with no recovery, period. Had to reflash everything through odin. I've done backups before, so I know I didn't do anything wrong.

Bhundven's kernel is a cwm5 and it won't restore any backups made with drhonk's cwm3 kernel. He stated that in his OP somewhere. So any backups you make with cwm5, you can to a full image restore through cwm5. Hope this answers your question.

Right, the only limitation I know of with backup/restore on my new kernel is you have to backup with >= 5.0.2.7 and restore with >= 5.0.2.7. I'm still looking through bootable recovery changes to figure out what exactly changed so maybe we could make a version that supports both. But I'm not sure what the limitations of that would be.
You cannot restore a backup made with 3.0.2.8x.
If there is anything different you see, please report it.

Nandroid backup restore

I was running a ROM versed on ulcb3 and using the entropy DD kernel. I just restored a nandroid backup to an L2 based ROM that was packaged with infusion-GB A2. I wiped prior to restore in cwm.
My settings now tells me I'm using the b3 baseband, and I can't tell what kernel I'm on. does a nandroid backup restore the modern and the kernel? I'm guessing kernel yes, modem no. Can anyone confirm?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
You have to flash the kernel you were using with the backup. I wipe data, flash the kernel that is supposed to be with my restore then ill do my nandroid restore. You then have to flash the modem that you want. Doing restores on the infuse is a little tricky at first.

On a similar note.... when switching between roms that are both nandroided, full wipe, cache, and dalvic are still necessary? I figured a nandroid restore would rebuild the whole phone to the snapshot that was taken at the time of backup......

Ya for some odd reason when i attempt to use the nandroid back up & restore future i get bootloops on the samsung screen upon restoring, i don't get it. On my HTC i can do it without any problems. Do i have to flash the appropriate kernel for the ROM when i want to revert to it?

When restoring a nandroid, you should only restore the data in the advanced restore option. Make sure to do wipes prior to flashing a new ROM.

[Q] CWD won't backup

Hi sorry I'm new to flashing and such and to this forum. My phone is rooted and running ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.4.3 and I'm running the leaked UCLE2 ics update. I want to flash CM9 but I want to back up first and I can't get a nandroid backup on CWD. I get through backing up boot image, recovery image, system, and halfway through data is says "Error while making a backup image of /data!",when backing up to external. When I backup to internal storage it gets through data but when it hits ".android_secure..." it says "Can't mount /sdcard/.android_secure!" Any ideas?
Use a different recovery. That one is broken.

Wait a different recovery? How would I do this? The only recovery I have heard of is Clockworkmod Recovery and I don't really know what to do? Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall (flash) it to make it work? Thanks

[Q] Nandroid Backup Taking Forever

I have the Xoom LTE using CM10.1 nightlies. I am using ROM Manager along with clockwork recovery. When I attempt to do a backup of my ROM the progress bar doesn't move from empty even after 4+ hours. I have been trying to Google around for answers unsuccessfully. I have read that backups should take at most 15 minutes so I am at a loss why mine does not appear to be moving at all after hours. Any helpful advice?

Have you tried to manually do a backup with just clockwork recovery.
(ROM Manager could be causing ur issue.)
Yes. I manually went into recovery and tried but had the exact same issue.

hmmm.... odd. Try a different recovery, maybe TWRP Touch Recovery? Try reflash ROM and Gapps. Sounds like there my be some data corruption.
Yeah I was trying to avoid going back to twrp... The relating didn't change anything either. Thank you!
