Hi sorry I'm new to flashing and such and to this forum. My phone is rooted and running ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.4.3 and I'm running the leaked UCLE2 ics update. I want to flash CM9 but I want to back up first and I can't get a nandroid backup on CWD. I get through backing up boot image, recovery image, system, and halfway through data is says "Error while making a backup image of /data!",when backing up to external. When I backup to internal storage it gets through data but when it hits ".android_secure..." it says "Can't mount /sdcard/.android_secure!" Any ideas?
Use a different recovery. That one is broken.

Wait a different recovery? How would I do this? The only recovery I have heard of is Clockworkmod Recovery and I don't really know what to do? Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall (flash) it to make it work? Thanks

I found out on my own if you flash CWMR Roboto you freeze during back up. I. Reflashed CWMR blue and works with no problems.

Flash fire fly rom again
Restore your backup

You can not flash a backup of a.2.2 rom over stock. If all you are looking to do is backup apps use tibu

The update.zip is something I always keep on my SD card.
From stock, just reinstall packages and then flash the rom. Also always keep a TiBu backup off your phone.
Restoring takes minutes - the most annoying part is just redoing your widgets
Everything was fine with the root however I used a font app installer that got the phone stuck in a boot loop (on the rainbow screen). How do I get back to rooted JB?
Did you do a back up of your original rom? You need to get back into recovery...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
No I didn't. I didn't see that in the instructions or I missed it. Any thoughts on how to get back to rooted JB?
Well if the font app got you into the boot loop then I don't think you lost root, I would get back into recovery wipe cache and hit reboot... See if that works... Good luck
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Unfortunately, I tried that. I think I did an accidental factory reset too but nothing has brought it back from the boot rainbow screen.
Did you unlock using EZ Unlock v1.2? You only mentioned that you rooted.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
No, I didn't use that. I followed the instructions to root found here (worked no problem until I met that $&#^%#& app) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 I think I can reset using Odin I just don't know what to use
Aight, well did you unlock the bootloader? Your response dictates the suggested route to resolve this.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I did follow the instructions to unlock the bootloader
If that's the case then you just need to boot into recovery and flash a rom. If you were running just stock rooted & unlocked VRBLK3, it's easier to just flash a rooted stock rom like the official VRBLK3 leak here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2034118
Try just flashing that, without wiping, then boot into the rom.
or
If you were on a custom rom, just reflash that rom via recovery and you'll be fine. Unfortunately you lose all your settings of you wipe data in recovery so try reflashing either option without wiping if you absolutely need to try recovering whatever data already exists in your current rom. If this doesn't work, format data, wipe cache then flash the rom.

I will give it a shot and let you know. Thanks so much! I was on stock ROM btw.
Cool, this should work

Ok, this is a zip file. Does it have to be on the phone? If so, how do I put it there?

Yes it does need to be there. If you have an sdcard just drag and drop onto it directly then flash in your custom recovery. Conversely, you should be able to boot into recovery and try connecting your phone to the laptop then dragging the zip over.
The longer method will be to Odin flash VRBLK3 and start all over from there.

I went there but it didn't seem to do anything when I selected mount sdcard and conversely didn't connect either

Aight well since that failed, you have to do this the long way: Odin flash the VRBLK3 rooted image from your laptop onto your phone. Choose one of the two images for VRBLK3 and follow the directions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
Edit: I realize I didn't ask but do you have an sd card?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
That worked! Thanks so much. Now, what is the best practice for backing things up so that I don't have this problem again? Should I root first then backup? Do I still have to unlock bootloader? Just wanting to handle this properly from this point forward.
It should be rooted already if you installed the Odin files from MrRobinson thread. It should come with either SuperSU or SuperUser correct? You also should still be unlocked but you can re-unlock using EZ Unlock v.1.2 from the following thread and you're undeniably unlocked. You'll hear a brief audio message if it worked.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/
Also, please perform a nandroid back in CWM so you have something stable to return to if something goes awry in the future. That backup would have cut all this down to one simple step. You don't need to be unlocked to perform a nandroid however you do need to be rooted with a custom recovery.
Lastly, perform an IMEI backup using the "Comprehensive IMEI Backup" thread in the dev section. Do this and save the resulting Synergy zip from backup methods A and B in more than one place not on your phone. This is more so a precaution because flashing things in recovery can and may result in a complete loss of connection with Verizon.

I have been following the ROM for awhile and tried to flash 1.1 last night. (Now I see 2 is coming so I will wait). My question is I have only flashed beans and aokp. Beans had the aroma install like version 2 of this ROM will have which I simply install from clock work. Do you install 1.1 that way as well or do you flash from Odin? I tried to install from zip using clockwork but it just reboots to stock. Thanks for the help
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Install 1.1 from recovery. NOT Odin. Be sure to wipe data beforehand in cwm or twrp.

Sorry I'm noobish...but used clockwork wiping all cache ect...then installed zip from external card. It says installing update then I reboot. It installs faster than normal. On reboot it just seems so stock. Maybe I'm just retarded and it installed fine. Anyway to tell in settings?

Hi people. So before I try to flash a rom I would make a backup of my rom which is Embryo 6.1. I would probably go back to embryo after flashing a new rom like jellybam and when I try to restore it, it gives me an error when restoring the system. It would say error when restoring /system. I would have to restore a backup from an older clockwork mod and reflash embryo. I have tried reflashing clockwork mod but that didn't work. I also tried toggling /preload in misc nandroid settings but it still didn't work. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance

You shouldn't be using outdated recoveries and if it is a recovery issue your should reflash the recovery...

Ask inside the recovery thread ...
could be a bad backup. I've had it happen before with TWRP.
I've tried to backup multiple times. When I restore the backup, it gives me the same error

Make sure the recovery isn't looking for a md5 if you didn't create one in the back up.

Does anyone by chance have the MD5 file of the most recent CWM?
I've heard and seen tons of people linking to the site imnuts for it, but every time I go there, the site seems to of either been removed or changed for one of those quickly made search query sites...
Also, does anyone know if the Recovery will work on the lastest FP8A update? I was using a recovery from August and it's not going through for some reason... I figure something to do with how ODIN is signing the update on the device or something...
You have to flash it with auto reboot off and then boot straight into cwm and root. Then you can delete the file that overwrites cwm and flash cwm again.

You can get the 0302 version of CWM here. It's is what I installed on my phone just yesterday.
https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B9-XlcbZHKscXzVmRmFMcUVXcTA/edit?usp=sharing
I also dropped my copy of Odin in as well. Everything worked as it should - EP4, FP1, FP5 and FP8.
Be careful restoring backups with that version though. By that I just mean it doesn't like to restore your nandroids. The Orange Text Version seems to work well for restoring though.

Also the blue text cwm cant restore nandroids on RFS. On ext4 it will work fine.

Well, I never knew that about CWM. Never understood what the mounts were for. I thought they were to mount it on the phone. Now I see you can use them to edit your phone via PC. Yay for learning!
