Need help updating Rooted TF300T V10.4.2.17 to V10.4.2.20 - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having trouble updating my unlocked tf300t, there used to be a guide on this site, but have spent hours looking for it and no luck, so basically can anyone help me with the steps needed to update, note that my bootloader is unlocked but no root access, lost it in the previous update.

I used method 3 at the bottom but check out all 3. just substitute firmware version

hope it helps you.

What about using fastboot with a PC to flash twrp recovery, then use twrp to flash the .20 zip? That's what I do. You don't need root to do that if you're unlocked.

If you want to update all the way to 4.2.1, check out the post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055430
Let me know if you have any questions about the steps before the steps posted there, I created a compilation post on my blog (thoughtsontechnology.com). (NONE of the work is mine, it's just a compilation of steps for easier access.)

[Q] Rooting with TW version of tf300t

Hi I am searching for ways to root my tf300t without having to unlock the bootloader so as not to void my warranty. So far I haven't found any TW .17 blob file in the forums. Would it be safe to try using the DE blob file? Mine updated itself to .29 after a couple of attempts to delay the update.
If I have no other choice then I will have to unlock the bootloader but I would do it as a last resort if and only if there is no way currently to get root for my version.
Any ideas guys? What do you guys think would be the safest thing to do?
am I the only one with the TW model?

Root without unlocked bootloader

Is there any posibility of rooting the tf300t without unlocking the bootloader. Sorry if there is some info about it but I read someone did this but couldn't find how he did it.
I haven't heard anything yet. Keeping my fingers crossed as I did not save root before upgrading and the unlock tool fails for me.
If on jb, there is no known method at this time.

But is there any on ics? Will I lose root access after update?
on ICS: i use this method, worked great for me (make sure you download the version 1.1 which states it works for TF300, version 1.0 won't work for TF300). No need to unlock bootloader

Then use Vodoo OTA RootKeeper to save root when and if you update.
Consider NVFlash b4 uptate to jb.

Not getting JB update

Hey everyone. I have a TF700t (obvious by posting in this thread). It is unlocked, but not rooted. I go to try to get the Firmware upgrade and it says I am already on the current version. Is there something missing (this is my first OTA upgrade, btw)
thanks in advance!

Look at the build number, what version software you're running right now?

Unlocked devices do not get OTA updates. You must install the complete firmware downloaded from Asus, or obtain the "dlpkgfile" from other sources and kick off the upgrade process manually.
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803090
Important note: If you plan to install custom ROMs (obviously, because you are unlocked) and want to make your device brickproof, then BEFORE upgrading anything, you should create the files that allow you to use nvflash to recover from any softbrick. This is your last chance - as soon as you upgrade your bootloader, you will not be able to create these files anymore. Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901479

Honestly I could care less about rooting. Is there a way to re-lock it to get the OTA?

First, you are a lucky guy. You still have the .26 version, I suggest you to visit this thread to perform a NVflash bootloader backup before doing anything further(this will help you if you brick your device). If you upgrade you will NEVER able to do this bootloader backup again. Once done with that. Just download the firmware from Asus site, unzip it and you should have another zip file, copy this zip file to the root of your external micro SD card, and you should see the notification to upgrade (in some cases, you may have to reboot to see the message). There is NO WAY to relock your bootloader at this time.

[Q] How to root TF700T on current firmware from ASUS?

Hey I've had my tablet since release and have been updating it incrementally as the updates came out while progressively watching the Android Dev. section for progress on the custom recoveries and custom ROMs.
My question today is, how do I, if it's possible with any current rooting method(s), root my TF700T? Do I still need to use the ASUS bootloader unlocking tool or is there an alternative that doesn't use their unlocking tool?
Thanks

You can downgrade to ICS, then root, use OTA RootKeeper, and apply incremental updates via the dlpkgfile method (manually applying OTA updates). There is a thread somewhere on this forum that explains how to do it, just use the search function.
Yeah I've seen that; I was just curious if there was anything else that I may've missed.
Thanks for your response

[Q] Help with unlocking and rooting for a newby.

Hi, I am asking if someone would help me with unlocking and rooting my tf300t because I am new to rooting and flashing. My tablet has not been modified, it is running on the offical 10.4.2.18 firmware update so my tablet is up to date. I need to have a step by step guide of the unlocking and rooting process along with what to download so that I will be able to flash cm10 roms on my tablet. Thank you for your help.
Have a look.
