[Q] How do I set a resolution of an Android device? - General Questions and Answers

What I have here is this unbranded 7" WM8850-MID tablet, and it's obvious that the aspect ratio is wrong!
It has a 15:9 stretched on a 16:9 screen and it's really annoying because all the videos playing on it look stretched out.
How can I set a custom resolution to match the aspect ratio of the tablet? Thanks.

Well reality is that you can not change the resolution of screen. Try MX Video Player. You can fit the video on your screen just the way you want!
Hit thanks if I helped you.....

Seems like that's the only way.
Is there a way to make videos play with MX Video Player? For example, if I'm on YouTube, can I make it play in MX Video Player?

Seems a Bit Tedious Now... But here is the solution.... Maybe it will help you.... Open MX Player. Go to Settings > General > Check Play Http Link Videos...
Now, As you might know, Watching any video on YouTube=Downloading the Video. So just copy the video URL you want to watch & go to the browser and paste it.
Now here is the trick: You have to edit the URL as www.youtube.com/abcdefghqwerty To www.ssyoutube.com/abcdefghqwerty. i.e, you have to add the letters 'ss' before word 'youtube' then hit go. It'll go to savefrom page. Select the quality and format of video you want. It will open the video with MX Player!! Watch it with desired resolution. B)
Try it!! This trick will also save your data traffic!

Woah, it does seem tedious, but this would be the solution for now. Thank you!

play 1080p (HD) video on HTC HD2

hello is there any player can play 1080p video.
thanks
hi.. first of all, we do have a specialized Q&A forum, so please post your question here so it would be better assisted.
as a reference to your question, you won't get any joy in playing 1080p video on a WVGA screen (480widex800high). the picture just wouldn't fit (1080p hd is, you guessed it, 1080 high)..
but if you want to force it, there will be a lot of processing involved to scale the picture down to a resolution an HD2 could play... nicely. it's like forcing a BlueRay player to play HD movies on a Standard TV or playing Halo 3 on your grandma's bunny-ear kitchen TV (though it would play, it's just not worth it).
it would be pointless to develop an application to do such on a device that simply won't cut it anyway. well, except if you want to use a TV out function (to play the video on an HDTV - making your device an HD media box), which the HD2 doesn't have.
so to answer your question. No. none that i know of.. but you know what? try to post it on the forum link i gave you and you might get lucky..
good luck.

The joy would be not having to convert it before watching! I think it would be great. But I don't know of a player that can do it sadly.

[Q] Playing movies: I just don't get it...

Hi there,
I would like to have movies played on my HD2, but somehow I just don't get it right.
I've searched the internet as well as this forum for the right video converter that would show my movies on my HD2 (together with the subtitles as they are in the original movie) in full screen. I'm stuck...
Could anyone please help me out here? When I check a link, that is mentioned in the forum, I get a thousand others. To me, it's all very confusing... To which format should I convert a movie to have it shown on my HD2 in full screen? What player should I use on my HD2? Would it be possible to (de)activate the subtitles in that player? For instance, I've converted the movie "SALT" to my HD2, but the movie is NOT in full screen, and it's subtitles are gone...
I'm way open to suggestions.
Thanking you in advance!!
Robert
The best player... pretty much the ONLY movie player worth bothering with on windows mobile... is coreplayer. The cab I use is attached.
Coreplayer can fullscreen, but you may need to play with aspect ratio settings to make it take up the entire screen (as the movie will often fill the width of the screen, but won't fill the height... doing so would make everyone look tall and thin, or you'd have to crop the left and right sides of the movie).
Here's a thread with the info on subtitles.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-345995.html
I guess there's a subtitle plugin for coreplayer that you must download separately, but it doesn't take popular subtitle formats. So you must convert the subtitle to a format that coreplayer likes (on your PC) first. The movie itself may or may not need to be converted depending on the format. Core plays most things without the need for conversion, but some types (not all) of mp4 or mkv won't play without conversion. Also you'll need to convert if the movie is true high-def. A 720p or 1080p isn't going to play smoothly on the phone, but something like 720 x 304 will play fine.

My personal favourite video player is Dice Player. Install it from the Play Store.
(or you can try MX Player, which was my previous favourite video player)
Both of the played almost every kind of video format that I had.
Hope this helps.

no problem, glad to help.
I also see the bar at the very bottom of the screen. I don't think it can be removed.(at least I haven't found out how to do it yet)
From my experiences with the SGT2, i would prefer MX Player. Had some troubles with viedo quality using Dice Player.

Does MX player knows very slow stepping video? One second step is too much. I need see more details, for example for sport... sport is fast, I need to see slowly inching video step by step.

Looks like you are asking about frame by frame seeking....!. Currently MX Player doesn't have this function.

No video / black screen on philips android TV

Hi,
I just bought a Philips 32PFS6402 Android TV (version QM164E.).16.102.24).
Unfortunately the default video player, didn't have the possibility to adjust the subtitles, so I had to look for alternatives. Your MX player was highly recommended and the features I was looking for seems to be in place (remember where you stopped a video stored on USB and continue from that point on the next time. And adjust the timing of the subtitles while playing the video.)
so far so good. But unfortunately, not all video's are shown correctly. For some video's I only see a black screen. There is audio and ther are subtitles, but the screen stays black.
The codec info for the specific file:
MPEG-4 Video (XVID)
1920*800
Strange thing is, I can play the same movie using the default player.
Any suggestions?
thanks in advance,
Matthijs

First of all, thanks for your reaction. How do I collect a bug report? I didn't see any options for that.
For you info. I tried Kodi today as well and experienced the same problems. No video image, while there is sound and there are subtitles. I find it to be very strange, since the same movie does play in the default player (no idea which one that is).
Today the movie I tested yesterday on MX Player, resulted in some kind of freeze. no response what so ever.
thanks,
Matthijs

Based on the information you have shared, it seems that your device's hardware-accelerated decoders are buggy or broken. Request you to tap on the HW button on the playback screen and check other decoders. It may work for you.

Will give it a try again (it's not near me now). Thanks
