Anyone use tablet as a phone??? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi all,
Is anyone use this tablet as a phone. I have installed VOIP and able to dial out but only able to talk to the other person using the build-in microphone, which is not too good (echos and not good with a noisy environment) and was unable to use bluetooth. I just wonder maybe the tf700 only likes certain bluebooth type. If anyone able to use bluetooth to talk please let me know the model number. Thanks

i use it sometimes to make calls. get a wired headset, download an app called Grooveip, and start using google voice. free calling. also download the google voice app to text. this only works for us and Canada numbers. the one con i found is that there is no picture mail option, but its not that big of a deal

+1. Thank you for quick respond, yes, I use Grooveip too, I have tried wired game head set and it's working fine, but just wonder if you have try with bluetooth headset, it just a lot more convience...you know ...no wire! I tried one made by Samsung, the device detected it no problem but no sound either from the caller or they can't hear me.

I also use GrooveIP and use Arctic Sound P311 Bluetooth headset with it. Works good.

Wow, great news then. Thanks bro! I'm going to get one.
Edit: I just check out the Arctic Sound P311, it seems like not design for phone call, no microphone, just for listening to music?? I'm looking for the bluetooth one that clips to your ear for cell phone.

It does have a microphone. It is a steroe Bluetooth headset with mic, there just is no protruding boom mic.

OK, Thank you.

I've been using tablet talk. I use it mostly for texting, but I believe I saw the option to call added recently.
I'll try that option and I'll let you know what the quality was like (if you're interested that is)
Of course this makes use of your cellphone, so it's not a VoIP solution.

which and wear did you get it?
I ended up buying the samsung's stock headset. I think the solution would be the samsung official adapter and a 3.5mm headset

If you still would like to have Sennheiser you can get the MM-50 Nokia
They work, answering calls also works in a word it works like a stock headset but the sound is better (imho)

I'm using the MW600 with Sennheiser CX300 headphones.
Works well.

those dont look like they have a mic, i found 2 at bestbuy Bose MIE2 and Monster's Mobile JAMZ but yes you gotta shell out $149
I think i will have to shell out 20 bucks for this and use my skullcanandy mic'd
How do you manage the wire when you are not using it?
Wrap it around the phone?
SteelSeries Siberia Neckband should work with the Galaxy S standard? or do you need a Iphone converter as wel. I love the sound on those headphones, but I am kindof a bassaddict. Any thoughts on this?
+1 MW600 plus your choice of headphones.
If you would like to opt for headphones from a well-established and pioneer company, then the best option you have is to search for them online as that may help you to compare and get the best features which you are looking suitable to your needs. So, search for the headphones online.
Hi guys... Just thought I'd throw my bit in. If your after a decent bluetooth headset I recommend a set "Arctic Cooling" P311. I have had these for about a month now and they are great.
Mic in earpiece does a good job and sound quality is 4.5 out of 5. Only thing is using bluetooth doesn't allow me to use voodoo sound which would be a plus (need to plug in jack). I have made numerous phone calls with them and the people on the other end have no trouble at all hearing me. Thay also wrap around the back of your head and i have been jogging with them as well. So all round decent headset with all the features you need. God I sound like I'm pitching for them lol....... Anyways they go for about $45 buck and can get straight from their website.

Navigation turn by turn voice to bluetooth?

I tried to use google navigation with my Jawbone bluetooth headset and the voice of the lady that gives you turn by turn directions are coming out of the phone speaker, not through my headset.
is there a setting I'm missing to get it to come through the headset instead of the phone speaker?
I checked in the google navigation and found nothing, nor in the settings > wireless & network > bluetooth...
Thanks in advance.
can anyone help me out with this?
thanks.

oh... well that's not very convenient...
that also explains why music don't go to my headset either... huh.
you know, actually, that's kind of stupid now I think about it.
who the heck at HTC decide on that? I mean, who drives with a stereo bluetooth headset on? it's illegal!
speaker on our phones aren't that loud to begin with. having the turn by turn direction come trough on the headset would have been beneficial...
go figure.
I hope they add an option so this is possible on the update(if we ever get it).
anyway, thank you very much for the info.

yeah, I just realized that...
stupid if you ask me. who the heck drives around with a stereo headset...
I mean sure, I guess it's fine to work with a handsfree carkit and/or patched through your bluetooth enabled car stereo but if you have your window down while driving, it's still hard to hear.
they need to come up with an option on the phone setting for either stereo or mono bluetooth connectivity.

Well thats not actually true. Make sure your next Bluetooth has Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). It doesnt have to be stereo, it can be monural, mine is. All of mine are actually.‎ If it has A2DP it it will say it on the box. A lot of jawbones have that feature but i've noticed it buggy with the sensation. When a headset has A2DP, when it connects to the phone it connects as phone audio and media audio. With the sensation for me, on multiple jawbones (jawbone and jambox) it only connects both audio sources when it initially pairs. The next time it connects it only connects as phone audio. I have to unpair the jawbone then pair it again and media audio will work. I've updated the firmware on both of my jawbones and it didn't help. Maybe a fix is comin, who knows. Doesnt look like TmoUS is gonna get one any time soon
OP What model jawbone do you have? If it has A2DP then unpair it and re-pair it, it should work then.

hey, thank you for the info.
that just solved it right there. A2DP...
I own a Jawbone 2. I don't think this unit has A2DP.
I guess it's time to upgrade to a new headset.
hate to give it up though... I really like how it looks, hangs on the ear(fits my ear perfect, can't even tell sometimes I have it on), and sounds.
guess I'm off to shop for either a new Jawbone(if they fit my ear right) or a new brand altogether.
anyway, thanks again.
Plain and simple your bluetooth has to support media playing thru it

Using bluetooth headset for skype?

Im getting ready to go on deployment soon and am trying to get all the stuff I'll need ironed out and working how I hoped. I just purchased a TF (right before the TF2 date was released ) with the plan that I would use skype in port to call back home. I noticed in the manual that the 3.5mm jack will only support either headphones OR a microphone (at least thats how I read it), not both features at the same time. I was wondering if I could connect a cell phone bluetooth headset to the tablet and use it so I can hear and talk through it instead of the tinny speakers.
I don't use Skype, but I make phone calls using iPGroove on my TF and use the same BT headset I use for my phone. Works great!
Did you mean Groove IP? It looks like a good solution, better than skype! Do you know if itll work anywhere in the world that I can get a data connection? I will only call US numbers with it.

Working Headsets with microphone?.....

Im using some skullcandy aviators and it has a mic on it (I believe) but the bigger issues for me is that the buttons for volume and song control don't work do you guys know of any headsets with mics that work. I just hate having to hold my phone in my hand if im moving around, listening to music, then get a call so that I can talk through the speaker on the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

I seen some Android headphones in radioshack the other day but Im wondering if theres some kind of app to give us funtionality?? I doubt it but I can hope I guess
The problem is that the Atrix 2 uses the new OMTP 3.5 mm jack which has the ground and the mic switch compared to a standard 3.5 mm jack. In order to have a functioning mic you would need an OMTP compatible headset or find an adapter.
I have had problems finding either...but finally found one made by nox audio (but can't find a place that actually sells it) and one made by blueant which you can order from their website (it is a spare part for their over ear headphone). I plan to buy one and try it and see if it works.

Ok great im going to look into it too, thanks for your answer
My headset seems to work just fine.
It can pick-up/hang-up phone calls. And when not in a phone call, the "answer" button activates the voice search.
They are JVC...I'll have to look tomorrow to see exactly what model.

trick bluetooth profile

i bought a belkin songstream bluetooth thinking i could hook it up in my car and it should work for the media but is there anyway to trick the phone to think it can output all audio (media, call, notifications...) through it?
It should be automatic when u pair however if you goto bluetooth settings and than the settings for the device in your paired list there is a check box for media audio. It should be checked when paired and connected

I think you are out of luck in terms of "changing the profile." The profile is set by the device you are connecting to. If the device being connected to doesn't support something then it won't work.
However, if you buy a Bluetooth receiver that has a mic on it, then all your calls will go through the Bluetooth device.
In addition, I don't know if you have the option, but when in a call, is there a "Bluetooth" button on the bottom right of the screen? If so try pressing it during a call. If that works, then you might be able to use root and xposed or some other method to turn that on on every call when connected to Bluetooth.

trick the phone into outputting call audio as media audio
Well actually this can be done. I am pretty sure it can unless there is something hardware related that prevents it. But I am almost 100 percent this can be done. I have done it with things like GPS navigation sounds and things like that, so if the software making the call uses Java, it can be done.
sooo whos going to give this a try hahaha

Lol, since I already did it for other things, I will take a look. I kinda wouldn't mind having the ability myself.
I will make it in the form of an xposed module.
This is how I plan to make it work:
When an app begins to output audio, my module will create a notification. Inside said notification will be three buttons.
Each button will be an audio source:
Phone, Media, System
Clicking on one will change the currently playing audio output source.

Well I just recently got sprint, was on T-Mobile, not sure who I am sticking with yet... And felt like scrolling through the threads Btw, do you have Sprint unlimited plan? I have about 6 gigs used, and in populated areas like Reading, PA, places I would expect to see best speeds, they are next to pathetic with speeds at 0.64 mbps. Sorry for off topic stuff, but I just can't figure it out.

I mean, like here:
You place a call, and see the "end call" button and the other buttons for like showing keypad etc
In the bottom left, you should see a "speakerphone" button, after clicking that, while connected to your bluetooth, does it route the audio to the bluetooth device?
I ask because if it follows the android code, it appears that it should route the audio to the bluetooth device.
I had said about forcing it using xposed, and when I do that, you don't hear anything at all lol. The other person cannot be heard. In addition, it doesn't appear to be changeable during a call, the option would have to be applied before a call is placed or before a call is accepted. Which, for your case, one could detect if a bluetooth device is connected that supports audio, and if so, force the call audio to that.
Honestly though, it would be much simpler to buy a bluetooth receiver that supports phone calls. I got one from eBay for 11 dollars and have hooked it into my car without any issues. I may even go about disconnecting the bluetooth mic and routing my car's mic to it instead for better audio quality.
As I stated before, it is possible to force it, just a lot more work involved then forcing other audio (like pandora etc).
