Well... There's always a small chance of getting all your info stolen wheter or not you're using a custom rom, but I think none of the developers in this site would want somebody's passwords, at least in this section of the forum.
Most of these developers just do this for fun, what would you win by stealing a google account or whatever can be stolen?
Of course there are apps in the google play that do that, but if you use simple apps i'm sure you'll be fine.
:good:
(sorry for the bad english, 15 yo argentinian here)

Try downloading couple of ROMs and mix up the features, cooking your own ROM!
I did same with Axura Rom in which I changed its framework.
Congrats you are newbie ROM developer
If you want to start from the ground up, start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=998574
Start small!
Take existing roms and exchange parts for other parts you like.
Repeat until your phone won't boot anymore.
Investigate why the phone doesn't boot anymore.
Fix it.
Repeat step 1.
Thats how every rom basicly starts, a personal rom with little mods just for yourself until you are confident enough to provide others with a working rom and support and have a rom that others would actually want.
Learn how to work with ADB. At the beginning it's difficult, but with the time you get used to it.
Don't forget, after creating, support support support. People notice.

His name is Tom, he's being silly.
No one here has created a kitchen, and so far none of the devs have any interest in creating one. Kitchens lead to ROM creators who have no understanding of how their devices work, and this is a bad thing.
I suggest that you try to find MikeyMike's ROM authoring guide, I think it's somewhere in the Captivate forums. There are a bunch of other guides too.
I suggest starting small - learn about theming and deodexing, then try to perform some small mods (e.g. modifying an existing ROM with a small CWM-flashable mod), then think about full ROMs after you've learned the smaller stuff.
Yes it was a joke, sorry for the confusion lol

My vote would be either the international SGSII or one of its variants (I have i777 and things always seem to be booming over there).
Go get a Samsung phone, whichever is the latest one that AT&T has. They always have a TON of developers.
You know on the other hand you could just put in some time and learn and get some great ROMs in the process, lfaber06, cogery, and myself could really use the help, and it really is not all that hard, if you know anything about phones and flashing, and some about computers.
There is a thread in the development section on the tools needed to do this.

I would love to learn more about development, but at 52 it's all a bit overwhelming at times. I may have to find something in the 250.00 dollar range and try though.

Update

Ok i want to update my sidekick but what should i update it with and what should the mounts look like and stuff
You may find this thread very helpful.
Sent from my Sidekick using xda app-developers app [also, where's my L, Samsung?]
my phone is not stock tho i just want to make sure if i already put a custom rom in it will i be able to install another rom without worrying about anything
You asked about updating and what the mounts should look like. If you are aready rooted and using CWM then just skip to the part that explains wiping and installing.
Sent from my Sidekick using xda app-developers app [also, where's my L, Samsung? Where? I want it back now!]
so i am safe to just install the rom then
well
What are you trying to do? Install a new ROM? I'm guessing you have a custom ROM already but want to change it to another custom ROM? When you say safe, safe from what? Can you please elaborate?

Nobody is responding to you because
1 your questions been answered already
2 you didn't read anything because if you did you would have easily found the answer
3 read the forums
And just to proove I'm not being a total ****
You can switch to any Rom from a custom Rom as long as the firmware base is the same.
Always wipe all data and cache factory reset before flashing a new Rom unless specified in the Rom that there is no wipe needed.
Never restore data with titanium backup when changing Roma it can cause conflicts and crashes.

As someone said lady GET AN I PHONE! I have never told someone that ,but I've never come across someone so unsuited to a rooted phone.
You are driving pple crazy who are trying to help !!!!
Custom roms are not for everyone. You can't expect others to read your mind ,or answer every single tiny point. Go and learn. Go and find info. It takes time and effort to pick the skills up. Its not hard but you have to put the effort in if you expect others to spend time helping you !

Roms are like clothes for our phones. You dress according to the enviorment in which you will be around. We canot tell you what combintion is the best. It totaly depends on you. Invest time in finding out what rom offers you what you need. Honestly... in my own personal opinion, there is no rom besides glorious overdose that worth installing. Half of what the other roms offer cause glitches in the rom.. and are themed... something you can do yourself. I appreciate the work done on this phone and to the devs currently deving for this phone, kudos. Let's go byond the "impossible" and make this phone a bit more exciting. Cause deving isn't for fame. Its for the thrill of having the chance to creat something someone somewhere will enjoy.

At this time last year, I was anxiously awaiting GOV. There were others but I only trusted ayoteddy at the time. After some time, I tried others and always went back to GOV.
I do these roms because after using root uninstaller to customize it my way, I figured that I should learn how to do this myself.
My roms will never be like GOV....it is perfection. I just do this to occupy my time. I am a recovering alcoholic and this has been sort of like a hobby for me.
My list of fave roms include GOV, GenericGinger, ICS Domination, Clean Fusion (Although now it cannot play YouTube within the web browser) and TouchMIUIwiz.

Is using custom rom's/kernels safe?

Hi. I have got one (mayby stupid) question for you.
Is using custom rom's and kernels safe for my password's, Google Account, credit card's?
When I added credit card to my Google Account - I'm using only official firmwares, but I'm geting tired with it.
PS. I don't wanna to irritate anybody.
Cyanogenmod roms have improved security I think

No, no, no.
I will write it one more time.
Can developer of custom rom/kernel implement badware, or no?
Is using custom rom's safe? Can dev intercept my password's, credit card, or Google Account?

I don't think they will do this. I have not seen any such cases, here almost every body around me uses custom ROMs.
Yeah but if some developer do it, he is not gonna tell you. Best way use ROMs which are pretty famous, and people are using them without complaints.
