HELP HTC boots black - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I can get into fast boot and have tried aru recovery which worked prior to 4.1.1. Now it says
when I run aru I get a screen says image version 3.17.631.2
I hit update
Then I get from 3.17.631 to 1.73.631.1
It starts to update shows htc screen erases data then flushes signature then fails
Please get the appropriate rom update utility
Please help

I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure it won't allow you to downgrade. What are you trying to accomplish though?
It sounds like there's a zip or img file on your sd card that your phone is trying to update from.

To be clear, you updated to Jelly Bean via OTA?
If that's the case, you can't run a RUU for an earlier firmware. It will fail because the hboot is not the same.

What can I do to recover every option I try fails. I am trying to get back to Rogers ROM
Ive also tried twrp and can install it bt when I try a custom rom I get same black screen

You have not explained what you really want to accomplish. You are stuck right now if you did the ota you have to run sense based jb roms

I did an ota a week ago that upg to 4.1.1. Then it was not rooted anymore. So I tried to root again thats where it al went black. Phone can be relocked or unlocked but everything I try with twrp in regards to roms fails.

Try one of the many sense based jb roms. Everyone who has taken the ota has the same problem and right now that is the only option.

Check the bricked threads to see if there is any remedy there.

Ok, here is my dilema:
Right now I have software number 1.93 (ICS 4.0.3), but pretty soon the OTA update for ICS 4.0.4 is going to be rolled out. From what I understood because I have an unlocked bootloader + rooted phone, the OTA update will fail unless I revert to "stock" (I am not sure here what this stock is supposed to be exactly).
1. Is it true and if yes what do I need to be able to receive the update ?
2. In case I decide I want to flash a custom rom, what should I do to be 100% sure I can revert to the original rom?
P.S. Some mod please modify the title from Tells RUU to TELUS RUU, it prevents Google from finding any posts regarding the Telus version. Thank you.

I dont think even football has an RUU yet though because the OTA was only released 2 days ago.
Btw this is for Ville_U which is snapdragon S4 SoC, and we need the s3 version (Ville_C2) RUU. I'm not saying it cannot be done without hackery, but it will be much easier for everyone to wait for C2 update.

no "best" sense rom, but imo the easiest and most stable is cleanrom. i tried a few of the others but i always went back to cleanrom. im using CM10 right now.
i haven't tried this sense rom but it was highly anticipated [ ROM ] Calkulin's One XL v1.0c [ 2.40 l Fast l Tweaked l Battery Saver Script ]
