Rooted...now laggy - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I recently rooted my skyrocket. My first time doing it.
Everything seemed to go smoothly and according to the directions I followed off of XDA.
I havent run into any problems, but ever since I rooted everything seems to be laggier in my usage.
Any ideas of why this may be or how I can troubleshoot it?
Thank you.

+1. How did you root? What was the procedure? What on xda did you read?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app

Sorry guys - Im new at this.
I followed the directions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773659
I used Odin and installed SuperSU on my device. I also then used TitaniumBackup to backup and freeze bloatware.
I did now flash any ROMs - Id like to try one like SkyICS but to be honest, I got pretty intimidated trying to follow the directions in that thread so I gave up.
So its only rooted right now. What else should I tell you?

My guess is you froze some stuff with titanium that is causing the problem. Try unfreezing one at a time. You have to be a little careful with titanium or you can cause problems.

Also, when you installed su did you install a custom recovery, twrp or cwm? You should and then use it to backup a working version of the rom. Then if you mess something up with titanium you can easily get back to a good version. If you do restore something with titanium only restore apps, never system files. That will mess you up in most cases.

I did use a custom recovery - I think it was TWRP. If I want can I use that to recover back to before Titanium Backup and restore to the pre-rooted state?

Yeah if you made a backup like you're supposed to before making changes to things.

OK I will try and do a restore. Will search XDA for instructions on how to do that.
Any other ideas on troubleshooting apart from unfreezing one at a time? Maybe this isnt a root issue but a memory issue or something.
General tips for troubleshooting lag issues and what I should be lookng for?
Thanks.

I knew a background app kept force enclosing, that's the usual suspect for android lag, but I couldnt be sure. now that I know u debloated by freezing for sure here's what u need to unfreeze:
DRM protected storage
face unlock (u might not even need to for this one but its so small anyway and doesn't do much). unfreeze those and restart your phone
the sns stuff can staff frozen as that's just used for social networking (twitter, Facebook) with the integrated Samsung apps. if u use external apps for these from the play store, or don't use them at all, u can safely freeze these

Thank you both for the advice. I will try this as well as any other suggestions people may have.

[APP] IF YOU FLASH YOUR PHONE REGULARLY CHECK THIS OUT, Zemna App List Back Up

Hey guys,
Im sure many of you know about the problems which can be caused backing up apps and restoring them to different android versions (problems with force close, reboots, general instability / compatibility).
I found this great free app which makes a list of all your apps you have installed into an XML on your sd card (so it wont get wiped when flashing your phone) and will allow you to open the XML and select an app and it will take you to the market place page for your selected app to download it again.
I find the market place 'my apps' will only remember my paid apps after changing roms and this is a much more reliable way and safer way to get your apps back, plus its just easier to have all your old apps in a list ready to download and not searching for ages right?!
I flash my phone quite regularly and with this app you can be sure you get the correct version of your apps not restoring one that's not compatible and cause problems.
Here's the App Brain link http://www.appbrain.com/app/zemna-applist-backup/net.zemna.android.applistbackup. I don't expect this to changes lives buts its a helpful tool, for free!
I'm not the dev for this app and take no credit for his / hers / their work! Feel free to hit 'THANKS' if this is useful to you.
Enjoy ;-)

to be honest not much usefull, but still appreciated...!!
I found it good, each to their own opinions I guess. Just thought I'd share cos my market never shows my free apps after flashing and its just easier to use this than spend ages searching for the all again, there're just there in a list ready to download

easiest way is to copy /data/app to your sd card. then copy all the apks from there to your computer and put them into flashtool's "/custom/app" folder. then after flashing your new rom, click "customize" in flash tool. bam, all your apps are installed without having to wait for downloading.
biggest downfall is losing app's saved "data". ei highscores and settings.
you can back these up by copying the program's data folder from /data/data to your sd card. the data folder for the program will look like this:
come.rovio.angrybirds (angry birds)
inside the data folder you will find different data files, some will be settings, highscores, etc. it will be different for every program. once you reinstall the app. you can copy JUST the data files to replace settings, scores, etc. don't copy the entire folder or you will get FC's.
That makes sense although iv never tried it. In theroy you could use the flashtool to put all the apps back on the phone and then with titanium back up restore data only and it not cause problems?

why not just use titanium backup? there's a free version. it needs root, but if you're flashing roms so often, you would already have root. you can back up everything, and batch restore everything. better than clicking 1 app at a time imo

I see where your coming from but backing up and restoring apps between different versions of android isn't really a good idea and there is different versions of apps for different android versions which is where the compatibility issues and stability problems come in.
The idea of this is it saves all your apps and you can download the right version for your particular configuration on your phone.

i hate restoring with titanium. you have to confirm each individual reinstall.
There is a batch mode you know and just leave it to do its thing automaticly. Batch restore brings everything back, I only had to confirm once at the start of the process

[Q]

Hi all,
I'm an inspire noob running exist's 4.0.3 asopX version 26 and he recently said that he was going to update us to 4.0.4 for version 27. My question is can I back up what i have to the sd card, do a reset, then recover everything using 4.0.4? Or will i need to do a wipe and manually put stuff back on?
thanks
As Long as the recovery you are using is compatible with your backup, then you can restore it with any Rom you are running. Backups from CWM are not always compatible with 4EXT recovery and vice versa
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
OK. Got it. Thanks a bunch
Sent from my Inspire
I don't think glevitan understood your question correctly, or maybe I don't. I took it you want to back up your apps and such, not the ROM version itself. And to restore everything back on the 4.0.4 version. This has nothing to do with clockwork or 4EXT recovery.
If he releases the 4.0.4 ROM as an update and does not require a full wipe then just install it over top of the 4.0.3 ROM. Most of the time the DEV requires a full wipe though.
Usually it is best to do a full wipe and restore user data with a backup app like Titanium Backup. But you only want to backup and restore user apps. Restoring system data can really mess your ROM up severely. Google contacts will resync when signed in.

haha Now that I see your reply I guess that I didn't get what he was asking...well, he will come back and get what he wants or will ask again...
I will say, no matter how inconsequential it seems, DO. NOT. RESTORE. SYSTEM. DATA. between major android versions. Let me refine that. I back up my playlists using Titanium Backup. I figured this was an insignificant thing and restored it when I moved from CoreDroid to aospX. Firstly, it didn't restore my playlists; secondly, I had to factory reset the phone < 1 day later.
That said, I WILL be restoring playlists and contacts going from AR26 -> AR27. I'll report either here or in the dev thread if it causes problems, but I have 6 g(mail | apps) accounts plus my FB account, and it takes me a considerable amount of time to get the duplicates regrouped.
Hope I helped. BTW, the free version of TiBU is pretty good, you just have to confirm every install. To me, it was worth it to get the pay version so that I could restore all my apps without confirming every one (right now I have 45-50, that's a lot of confirmations). It's also nice to be able to back out of a buggy new version of an app, or to be able to go back if you don't like the new version (I'm looking at you, FB.)
oh i see now. looks like i really lucked out cuz i flashed AR27 and his 4.0.4 then did a recovery. I thought it was a bit odd that it still said 4.0.3 so I came back here. Doh! okie dokie. I'm redoing a wipe and clean install and I'll just push all of my apps back from my google account.
Thanks for all the pointers about Tia Backup

You should have placed this in the ICS Q/A thread. Do NOT use the development thread for questions. thats why the restriction is in place, so people learn the ropes a bit before they are allowed in there. I would redownload and do a full wipe and reflash. And try to record your mms BEFORE you put all your apps and stuff back on there. Need a clean environment before you can dig deeper into this. Only thing you should put on after installing is inspiremod before doing your mms test. Id love to help test with ya, but i always remove the default mms apk from my phone :/
OK. Now I know. Which messaging app do you use?

[Q] Titanium Back Up - Striked out Apps

Hi guys. I am new to rooting, and finally took the plunge and rooted my LG Thrill. the main reason I rooted was to get hotspot access as well as freeze bloatware. I doubt I will ever use a custom rom.
With that said, after rooting with Megatron, I used Titanium backup to backup apps and to freeze a few.
My question is this: I have a short list at the bottom of my apps (8) that are striked out. The list is below.
1) What are these?
2) Can I remove them under REMOVE ORPHAN DATA without any ill effects?
3) Are these parts of frozen apps?
I haven't been able to find much info on these.

btips_tmp
com.lge.auto_detecting_test
com.lge.charging_test
com.lge.external_memory_test

I truly appreciate all the help I have received from this forum...although I haven't posted much, I have read quite a bit and all of your posts have helped me immensely.
Thanks again!

Not sure what you mean? This is the only phone I have rooted and used Titanium with.
I would like to use the function to "Remove Orphan Data", but don't want to mess anything up.
It shows them as No backup yet...but doesn't seem to be a way to back them up...probably because it thinks these were old apps.
Can suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated!

I don't see how they could be things that are not on the phone anymore as I did the backup, then froze a couple of apps and haven't removed anything.
You mention that these could be from frozen apps too...so if there was something that couldn't get backed up, then I froze it, these could be from those frozen programs?
So in practice, if I were to unfreeze my apps, I should see those strikes removed????

Ok this wasn't Titanium at all. This morning I re-flashed Tweaked 3.0 beta. I had to wipe data for that. After it started up I opened Play Store and found it re-installing all my apps. Is this normal? It was convenient but really surprising.

Ok this wasn't Titanium at all. This morning I re-flashed Tweaked 3.0 beta. I had to wipe data for that. After it started up I opened Play Store and found it re-installing all my apps. Is this normal? It was convenient but really surprising.

Google Play now restores your apps but not the app data.

When you set up your phone for the first time and log into your Google account it asks you if you want to restore you apps.

Well I guess I need to pay closer attention don't I. It was definitely easier than doing them myself.
It only does it if you log into your Google account during the initial account setup, and then leave it alone while it's doing its thing. If you skip setting up your Google account during initial setup and then go in and do it later, you don't get the option.

Stock Rooted Rom

Good Morning,
I'm looking for a basic rom with out all the bloat from samsung that I never use. I tried cleanrom but for some reason it ran very sluggish on my device not sure why. Any suggestions

I kinda like Splanner app of Samsung and a few more apps. Thats the only reason i went back to stock after the cyanogen10 rom. (also the inability to do video calls was a downer for C10). Is it possible to remove the apps post installation after rooting the tab?

Yeah use tibu to freeze or delete what you want.
WOW I can't believe how much problems I'm having with this tablet. I flashed cleanrom it ran horribly, I flashed another stock rom with no bloat, I keep getting messages on my gallery, can't open up youtube, trying to watch a tv show sample hard locks the device. I'm just going to put the stock rom on can anybody point me in the right direction with a stock rooted rom with nothing else. Thank you
