Stock Rooted Rom - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Morning,
I'm looking for a basic rom with out all the bloat from samsung that I never use. I tried cleanrom but for some reason it ran very sluggish on my device not sure why. Any suggestions

I kinda like Splanner app of Samsung and a few more apps. Thats the only reason i went back to stock after the cyanogen10 rom. (also the inability to do video calls was a downer for C10). Is it possible to remove the apps post installation after rooting the tab?

Yeah use tibu to freeze or delete what you want.

WOW I can't believe how much problems I'm having with this tablet. I flashed cleanrom it ran horribly, I flashed another stock rom with no bloat, I keep getting messages on my gallery, can't open up youtube, trying to watch a tv show sample hard locks the device. I'm just going to put the stock rom on can anybody point me in the right direction with a stock rooted rom with nothing else. Thank you

[Q] Captivate 2.2 [Official] Lag problems

Just finished installing the official 2.2 release on my Captivate (problem free). Before installing I backed up everything to my SD card via titanium, then removed the lag fix, and did a hard reset / format using the dialer code, verified everything was wiped and all the internal storage was wiped clean (although MCR scripts and superuser didn't go away).
first reaction, THE LAG IS HORRIBLE. hoping it was a result of crapware, I rooted via SuperOneClick, reinstalled Titanium from the market, and removed all the ATT crapware, rebooted, and it is no better.
I've restored my apps and everything except facebook contact syncing seems to be working great, but the lag is awful! often I wait 3, sometimes 5 seconds before a screen click is even recognized.
are there any lag fixes that have been tested on, or at least suggested for the official 2.2 release?
what lagfix did u use

I assume you are referring to the one used on 2.1, I don't remember the name, but it used MCR Scripts and was installed with an update.zip. once installed you ran MCR Scripts and "installed" the lag fix with 2 options, either 512mb or 1gb of space, and a third option to remove the lagfix
I ran the remove option before doing the upgrade

I thought I read that voodoo didn't work with 2.2, only 2.2.1
I'm running stock 2.2 with no lag. I formatted my external sd and that fixed my initial lag problem

If i understand you, you had lag problems after upgrading to 2.2, and then resolved them by formatting the external (removable) sd card?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I just upgraded and it seems very snappy to me. It's not my everyday phone anymore so I don't have a SIM or external SD in but from just fooling around with it for about a half hour it moves nicely! About to root now and remove the bloatware

That was solved months ago. Go to the dev section, download the 5.x voodoo + stock KB1 kernel odin file, and flash it on. Phone will take a while to boot back up, but will tell you it is converting partitions to ext4. Once it comes back, you will see the amazing speedup from getting rid of the piece of **** known as RFS.
Is there anyway I can get lagfix by itself? I have no computer so id just like to download to phone, put in root and goto recovery mode.

Yes hello I can read. I have NO COMPUTER to run odin on. Is it really that hard to not be a smartass and help someone out???? Really??? If Im still asking obviously im overlooking it. ONCE AGAIN I HAVE NO COMPUTER SO ODIN IS OUT OF THE QUESTION

If its that much of a lag, then something didn't load right. I'm on stock 2.2 wirth no lag. Its just about as fast as oclf. But, if you read the [official] froyo update thread, people kind brush on what ideas to try. Most of them say, like I said, something want loaded right. Good luck.

Honestly if there's nobody posting to help u out....that means u should probably find a computer to use

No ones answering because a search with one word gives him the info he needs. He just refuses to read and wants the info handed to him on a silver platter.

Respect goes along way in these forums. How did you expect people to reply to this? Everyone understands you have no pc. Yelling is going to get you no where. The hour you spent waiting for a reply, could have been used to do a search for it, find it and do it.

Ok so....i found the
voodoo 5 stable for 2.2.1 yes I know I only have 2.2
downloaded it
renamed it
put it in /sdcard
rebooted to recovery with CWM clicked reinstall packages
Went through its process and said it failed..could not verify or something. Is this not the way to do it? I did it on 2.1 same way w/eclair approved voodoo and it worked just fine. And I apologize for getting upset its just a little tedious doing all this searching on a small phone screen.

Froyo uses 3e recovery I believe so it will not install any update.zips the only way I know of is using an alternate recovery...a kernel with 2e recovery or going the custom rom route like torch 1.5 or cog 4 in the dev section which use the new froyo
And for your no computer issue...i suggest you find mcdonalds or a neighbor and use the wifi and download one of those custom roms directly to your phone that have a lagfix included with root and no bloat. I do this all the time when I am in the field. Just some suggestions I hole they help and I understand your frustration.

What to do after rooting?

Hello
I own a LG P500 2.3.3..
So, i decided to root my phone (i hardly have the basic knowledge of it)
anyway i followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1200167 and rooted my device. Everything was perfect..
Now i'm stuck on what to do next?
I downloaded Titanium backup removed few Dumb Default Apps and Backup'd the rest
What to do next?
What about ROM and stuff?
Custom ROMS
Install Adfree from the market
Get wifi hotspot working if it is disabled
Remove bloatware
Overclock
Download a custom ROM through room manager app and enjoy the new experience
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
You can do more thing after rooting your device.Use SYSTEM APP REMOVER to uninstall some app you don't use maked more free memory.Use Titanium Backup to backup and restore your apps. And so much more You can do...

What else would you do with an unlocked device? Load whatever you want and enjoy its full potential.

Download a good kernel
Install SetCPU (allows you to OC and UC). Good for saving battery while the screen is off.

I agree with whodisname. When you root for the first time it's all about learning what is available. Just keep checking your phone's forum and reading everything you can about the ROMs and the kernels.
Next comes the frustrating part: installing and having things go wrong. They will, so make sure you are ready to reinstall all of your apps manually a few times. You should have a backup made from before you do any changes to your kernel or ROM. Keep that no matter what. And btw do not install anything ROM or Kernel that is not SPECIFICALLY for your phone model. You do that and it's game over Chuck.
Yes read and dont rush or end up with a bricked phone which will be no good to man nor beast

All excellent suggestions. I ROM switch at least once a week, just to ty different ROMS. I am using my Thunderstick right now because I am in the process of unbricking my Rezound. It's learning and pushing your phone to the maximum. It is the same reason my PC is liquid cooled, take it past the basic specs and try something different.

[Q] How do you get Google Now to work???

I'm brand new to the SIII, switched from a Rezound yesterday. I'm rooted, unlocked and running CleanRom. I know others have gotten Google Now to work but I'm at a loss for device specific install instruction! This is what I did and had no luck, kept getting force closes and black screens: downloaded the m7_velvet.apk to extsd....rename as 'GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk.....replace in /system/ app....change the permissions to read,write,execute/read,execute/read,execute....rebooted. Any help would be awesome!!

Dont know what post I was reading that was telling me to just install the apk, but what I was trying to install earlier was now obviously just the update apk. Works fine now, thanks!!
I just installed it today. I think it's a little silly that the back button doesn't work to exit the app. Others having issues with that?

Very true, not going to complain too much and all I had to do was drop a few files. I renamed all the other folders/files it was supposed to overwrite so all is good, didn't need to take a nandroid or anything. Pretty nifty feature to have and takes stock rooted one step closer to JB.

There was a link floating around somewhere. I've got it bookmarked on my laptop but I have no access to it right now. :/ Just Google for safe to remove Samsung apps or similar. If not, I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction.

Debloating will not make your phone faster or yield a better battery life rather than just disabling apps in "All apps" section in Settings/Application
If you go under devlopment section and than search for dev Mohan, you will find that he has a stock, dexoxed, zipalign rom allready for you to flash via cwm or whatever recovery u have. This is the best method to debloat properly. Here is the link...

Stock ICS without bloat?

Just upgraded from the Infuse and HOLY CRAP what a difference. The Infuse, in some ways was really a misstep for Sammy. Hardware just didn't really work well. Anyway...
Looking through ROMs I was hoping to find a stock ICS where someone had pulled out the bloat. I didn't see it, but I may have missed it.
Thanks, and glad to have switched forums! Ha.

Agreed - it's a good ROM if you are looking for something close to stock with options. Only a few small issues of stability so far.
Root the stock ROM then debloat (disable apps first) yourself
would agree about embryo. stock, debloated.. unless you choose to add it. he built in a nice rom customizer as well. personally, didnt have any problems with it.

Just root and install Titanium Backup. There should be a freeze list in one of the stickies. You do not have to install a different rom at all.
I recommend that you just freeze the apps. If you uninstall them, you will have to reflash your phone with the stock rom if you want to send to Sammy or take it back to AT&T...
You can also just make a complete TiBU of the entire phone and save on your computer then restore them when you want to get rid of the phone in a legit way...

No need for a titanium backup or anything...I just disable an app (like yahoo finance or whatever crap) from all apps section in settings ..then I delete the .apk file from /system/app (and the .odex if the rom is not deodexed)..After any debloat you will have to flash the whole stock rom anyway if you get a big system problem (or restore a nandroid if you made a backup .. Which I hugely advice to do before messing with the phone)
