Stock ICS without bloat? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Just upgraded from the Infuse and HOLY CRAP what a difference. The Infuse, in some ways was really a misstep for Sammy. Hardware just didn't really work well. Anyway...
Looking through ROMs I was hoping to find a stock ICS where someone had pulled out the bloat. I didn't see it, but I may have missed it.
Thanks, and glad to have switched forums! Ha.

Agreed - it's a good ROM if you are looking for something close to stock with options. Only a few small issues of stability so far.

Root the stock ROM then debloat (disable apps first) yourself

would agree about embryo. stock, debloated.. unless you choose to add it. he built in a nice rom customizer as well. personally, didnt have any problems with it.

Just root and install Titanium Backup. There should be a freeze list in one of the stickies. You do not have to install a different rom at all.
I recommend that you just freeze the apps. If you uninstall them, you will have to reflash your phone with the stock rom if you want to send to Sammy or take it back to AT&T...
You can also just make a complete TiBU of the entire phone and save on your computer then restore them when you want to get rid of the phone in a legit way...

No need for a titanium backup or anything...I just disable an app (like yahoo finance or whatever crap) from all apps section in settings ..then I delete the .apk file from /system/app (and the .odex if the rom is not deodexed)..After any debloat you will have to flash the whole stock rom anyway if you get a big system problem (or restore a nandroid if you made a backup .. Which I hugely advice to do before messing with the phone)

Performance and Customizations

So I got my mesmerize the other day, and it's been great so far. However, I have a few gripes.
1. Battery life: the battery life isn't terrible, but I feel it could be better.I generally do not use live wallpapers, I use a dark-ish wallpaper, I am on wifi most of the time, I keep the brightness at the lowest setting, and I keep gps and bluetooth off almost all of the time. What could I do to make it better?
2. Performance: While the performance is acceptable, I know that it could be so much better. I've read about the lag-fixes, but I do not wish to root my phone at this time.
Btw: I use LauncherPro
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Well I like the go launcher myself. Seems a little more responsive than launcher pro to me. But it only helps a little. For me the voodoo lagfix is well worth it.

Between custom ROM's and Kernels and a variety of apps. You can make your phone perform just about anyway you want it too. If you decide you want to try out a custom ROM or Kernel I would suggest taking a read at the below linked thread. It is very informative and remember that if you do flash something. Make sure it is for your phone. If you are in doubt. Post or feel free to PM me. In the end it really just depends on what your looking to get out of your phone. I read for almost two months before I did my first mod because I honestly didn't know what I wanted. So if I or anyone else can help. Please let us know.
Here's that thread

If you want the battery to last longer, I'd start by using Wifi only when you need it; it sucks a lot out of the battery. Right now on my phone, Batteryminder goes from 1d 21h left on my battery to 4h left if I turn Wifi on. If you're concerned about going over your data cap, install an app like 3G Watchdog to keep track of your data usage.
Depending on how you use your phone, you can shut off several things like sync and even the mobile data radio. I keep everything turned off. If I need to get on the Internet, I turn on whichever radio I need (Wifi or mobile data), do what I need to do, then turn it back off when I'm done. Of course, this means I don't get any e-mail, Twitter, news, or weather updates; I check all of those manually. For stock, you can download several different apps to control the different radios and brightness on the phone. When I was on stock, I used the Dazzle widget for that.
Turning "on" GPS doesn't really turn GPS on (as in it's running all the time draining your battery). It just seems to make the GPS available to applications that want to use it. I keep mine on all the time for several apps I use, and it doesn't seem to affect the battery life.
Thanks for the responses. I have a few questions.
So if I were to want to install the voodoo lagfix kernel, I would first need root (super one click?), install clockwork mod recovery? With rom manager? And then flash the kernel right?
After I install the lagfix, would I be able to unroot? I want to keep as close to stock as possible.
I read about uninstalling the lagfix, but how would I go about restoring the default kernel and uninstalling cwm if I were to need to?
I'm still not completely sure about rooting my phone, so is there anything at all I can do to improve the filesystem performance without rooting and installing a lagfix?
Thanks

Why would you want to unroot. Rooting has no affect on performance or function of the phone.

If you are worried about voiding your warranty by rooting you will have done that by flashing a voodoo kernel. You can always unroot but why would you? Plus you can always odin back to stock and its like it never happened. Rooting just gives you access to the phone you should have gotten when you bought it.
If you get to a point where you feel comfortable try flashing a new rom and kernel. You won't believe how much more you can do with the phone by doing so.
Also we will be here to help you out if and when you need it!

Ok guys, I f***** up big time. I installed the version of voodoo from the official website... That didn't work. Refused to boot. Installed CWM through Odin so I could install the default kernel, but CWM wouldn't let me flash it. I also can't flash a different version of CWM. I was able to install the default firmware and kernel, but twlauncher force close CONSTANTLY, sooooooo... I'm just gonna try and get it replaced.
Thanks for all of the help, but I'm not going to take the chance again.
You going to to go here and read through the OP. When you go to reflash back to stock make sure to check the box that says repartition. Read through the post and download the EE19 full package. Get odin installed. At that point if you need some direction post back and I can help ya

[Q] Rooting problems, please help!

Hi everyone. I am trying to root my wife's galaxy s 4g (I have a vibrant). I am using a mac with parallels and windows xp. I have tried all of the instructions. I have the drivers installed, net 2.0 framework, mono for xp installed usb debugging turned on...yada yada. Every time I try to open superoneclick it fails to run...it gives me an error message that the application had to close and then offers me the option to send error report. I've tried downloading superoneclick versions 1.7 through 2.1 and none of them will run. What am I missing? Why is this so hard?
Thanks

All you need is Odin, there are numeral roms available that are already rooted.
There's really no need super one click.
Just keep in mind that your phone is completely different, in other words only use files meant for sgs4g

Thanks, however I don't necessarily want to flash a rom. She is very happy with touchwiz, I just want to be able to delete bloatware, make backups, etc....basically I just want her to have root access. If she wants to flash a rom she can do that later, it's her first smartphone and she's not that adventurous.
There's stock roms rooted as well such as kd1(last official rom released for sgs4g) and most of the roms still use touch wiz. They can be found in the sgs bible. As long as they have the word "stock" in them they are just that... Stock with every piece of bloatware included.
Hope this helps

oh, that's good to know, thanks. Do you know if those roms will wipe? Would she need to back up all of her data and apps first? Also, if she did need to back everything up, how is that done when not rooted....i've always done nandroid and/or titanium backups on my phone.
Defiantly backup first... Titanium should do.

IMO, you should flash KH2 and drhonk's kh2 kernel. It adds ext4 support, auto-roots and adds red cwm, but leaves things stock from there on. There's a raw odexed leak available on these forums, as well as a stock but deodexed (well, the crt on/off effect is added), as well as whitehawk's Valhalla, which is stock (and deodexed), except it has the power menu mod and custom lockscreens (9 of them, zOMG).
My personal recommendation is the odexed leak and drhonk's kh2 kernel. I'm not big on deodexed roms, myself, but it's more a personal choice than anything. Also, if you go this route, all you need is Odin
Moving to Gingerbread is the best thing I ever did on this phone. I strongly urge you to dump froyo straight away, and make the move to gb!
Hope this helps you decide what to do
[Odin]What Time is it? It's Leak Time T959VUVKH2 Build Date 08/11
[Kernel][GB][KG4/KG6/KH2] Stock Kernel + CWM + Voodoo EXT4 Lagfix
[ROM-Leak][CWM] Gingerbread 2.3.4 T959VUVKH2 Deodexed + CRT On and Off Enabled!
[ROM] Valhalla v1.1 [KH2][9 Lockscreens!][9.15.2011]
Oh, and, if you're like me, you HATE the T-Mobile jingle/animation.
Here's a little package I cooked up for CWM to replace the T-Mobile boot/shutdown animations and sounds with those from the Galaxy S II (GB only):
[MOD][CWM][GB] Galaxy S II Boot/Shutdown Animations w/Sound
I would love to backup first, but I don't know how if I'm not already rooted. Titanium only works with root.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
There are other apps in the market that can backup your apps that don't require root.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Why don't you just use Odin to flash Bali on froyo. Backup. Flash gb. Restore data. Not sure if that will work. I remember there being froyo to GB issues. just list your apps and start from scratch. It's worth it, as jay says.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
If you want to restore your froyo apps on GB, you can either use Titanium Backup, or these steps in the advanced restore option in CWM, as tested by another member here:
Flash whichever GB ROM you want according to instructions, but don't boot the rom when complete (do a battery pull if you have to).
Flash Bali Kernel on top of your GB rom, DO NOT BOOT THE ROM
Use CWM, go to restore, then advanced restore your data, DO NOT BOOT THE ROM
Reboot recovery, and flash one of DrHonks GB kernel
That *should* restore your data. I personally haven't tried this, but a few members reported that it works.

Debloating will not make your phone faster or yield a better battery life rather than just disabling apps in "All apps" section in Settings/Application
If you go under devlopment section and than search for dev Mohan, you will find that he has a stock, dexoxed, zipalign rom allready for you to flash via cwm or whatever recovery u have. This is the best method to debloat properly. Here is the link...

I know for a fact that Titanium Backup works, used it the other day. I can't think of any reason Rom Toolbox wouldn't though
I just used Rom Toolbox to uninstall a system apk. (Only a wallpaper apk) bit o it worked. I usually use TiBu.
