[Q] How to disable the external speaker when headphones are in? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello
Whenever I have my headphones in, the music plays through the headphones. However, notifications and such if they're turned on will produce sound through the external speaker even if headphones are in. Is there a way to disable this feature? I was hoping it would be possible to disable the external speaker when headphones are in, and only produce sound through the headphones.
Thanks for reading!

I use an app called "soundabout". That's the only way I have found to make it work.

Mine plays through the headphones and speaker. I'm sure people at the gym hate me.

Weird I never had that problem before every sound plays through my headset(the ones with a built-in Mic).

That's odd lol. Do you have any special settings enabled? What rom are you running?

Thank you - I will try this out now.

It works. Took a little messing with the settings to get it working.
I have the first 2 boxes checked.

Environmental audio with music/earbuds

I use lithium music player because I like the song crossfade, no gaps,
but would use other player if work with this idea...
Can you find a way to enable the microphone on the earbuds and mix with music player to hear both?
When I have earbuds in, I cannot hear my environment, While sometimes that is the whole purpose,
Sometimes I need to hear my environment with earbuds in, like when jogging/walking/bikeriding.
Can you find a way to enable the microphone on the earbuds and mix with music player to hear both?
It's a neat idea, and you could use almost the same trick for noise cancellation if you want to reduce the background noise.
So,
Found an app,
VirtualAmp,
Headphone hearing aid,
Seems to run concurrently with Lithium,
Testing this weekend

Voodoo sound fuzzy and staticy

Anyone elses audio come out fuzzy when using voodoo driver? Doesn't matter which db setting I use. I'm going 3.5mm to 3.5mm on my car radio and it happens no matter what listening to Pandora, Spotify, etc. Any ideas? Thanks!

Nothing huh?
Same here, if I turn up the volume.
Sent from my G2X
I only have that with Pandora but I'm not sure if its the phone or app because it is the ad free one posted in our themes and apps for the g2x.

Edit: after I said that I noticed it while watching YouTube videos and when cask forwarding a song in default music player
So I wonder if it's just the G2x, if it does it without voodoo, etc. What is the root hmmm
Are you also charging your phone at the same time? Car chargers tend to make the phone's audio jack all buzzy.

Apple airplay/bluetooth

Hey so I've been messing with two apps, hifi speaker and remote for itunes, to airplay stream music to my phone at home. I was also going to buy a new blue tooth speaker and was wondering if after getting the music streamed to the phone, turning on blue tooth will this then redirect the music to the speaker?
Also, is there an app to give my phone actual airplay capabilities, not just making my phone a receiver for airplay but letting me push music/video out over airplay?
Thanks.

Wait so what music source exactly do you use with this? You said that no rom redirects audio to Bluetooth, yet I find it hard to believe if I connect my phone to a speaker via Bluetooth and play music out of, say Power amp, that THAT wouldn't work.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Using power amp only directs to certain BT frequency and when using the stock players it has always stopped when I try to swap to BT of course this is my experience u may have a more compatible BT device but this is just me u can try urself but this is what have found doesn't and hasn't worked
PS when I mean redirect I mean redirect the audio sound from the music player to the by device.

Wow... Then what exactly is the point in buying a speaker? I mean they advertise them to be compatible with like I phones, android, and all Bluetooth compatible devices don't they?

Random Zapping noise while listening to music

Not sure how to exactly describe the sound but I randomly get a ear piercing zapping noise while listening through earphones or connected to aux wire in the car. After it happens the volume gets lower and I have to pull out the wires and then restart the song. Anyone else experience this?
Fyi my setup is latest synergy r147. But it also happened since I had r125.
Maybe its just hardware related.
this is only happening in poweramp and not the stock player.

Not necessarily. It could be that your audio cable is damaged or there is a grounding loop if you're charging it as well

poweramp seems to be the problem
I tried playing the same files on the stock player but never got the squealing noise. and if i unplug it it still squeals. and it happens when it is cold outside. pls help i cannot figure it out. seems like poweramp is the problem so i deleted poweramp and reinstalled it. and only restored data from TIBU. and after a while the noise comes back. i don't know what to do

It's the file format themselves then. Which file formats do you notice cause the squeaking? For me, I noticed that wma and m4a files cause constant squeaking in PowerAmp whereas mp3's work fine. I have zero issues playing those same audio files in the stock player. Basically, any music files that I placed on my phone from Windows Media Player and iTunes cause music popping/cracking unless using the stock music player.

It's ridiculous that those two file formats cause issues for me. The worst part is I have those same exact files on my HTC Droid Incredible and have absolutely no issues. It was something I noticed immediately once I received my GSIII in July but previously had no issues with. Months ago I sent an email to the PowerAmp dev to inquire about this and they told me it was an issue with Samsung's firmware not their app. It seems like Samsung sabotaged music file compatibility with third party apps. I still love PowerAmp though.

I've been having the same problem. Whether its my ear phones, AV cable in the car or, at work it does it. Even on different apps (native music player, play music, and podcast app). I have an otter box so my ports are good and clean and no water damage. No idea why it happens but I've got a replacement on the way for an unrelated reason. So hopefully it won't do it too.

Fwiw I think I found the problem....it was a low voltage problem. When my voltages for kernel settings were tweaked to be lower I would immediately get the zapping sounds. Can't say what the levels were but anything I setup away from stock...it happened. Hope this helps anyone.

ROM suggestions to enable Bluetooth calls while playing music.

Hey everyone.
Here's the story. I came from a droid 4 and would play music off the phone through the 1/8 jack on the top into my trucks aux in. A Bluetooth call would come in and it would pause the music and the Bluetooth call would come through no problem.
Now, with my Verizon s3, I can't hear the person on the other side unless I unplug the cable to the aux in.
My question is if someone can recommend a ROM to accomplish this. So far I've tried synergy and axis and both won't work properly.
Thanks!

There is an app called SoundAbout will do that for you.
Thanks. I tried that. It works. But being a tinkerer, I kept trying ROMs. CM 10.1 works great. The last nightly has no problems so far.
