[GUIDE] Root for HTC One SV UPDATED 23/02/13 - HTC One SV

Now quicker and easier!
Please note, this CAN brick your phone. Do not proceed if you are not confident in your ability.
Any damages caused are your own problem and I withhold any liability for any future issues caused by this process
Just a small note, I am aware of the screen in recovery moving, this is because of HTC's framebuffer method, I haven't been able to fix it yet.
1: Unlock your phone at the htcdev site, follow the instructions on the site
2: Download the following two files. Download either ClockworkMod Recovery for ICS OR Clockworkmod Recovery for JB depending on which version you are on and Superuser.zip, Move the Superuser.zip to somewhere on your phone's SD card.
3: reboot your phone into hboot and then into fastboot if you are not already there
4:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
this is presuming the recovery.img is in the same directory as fastboot, you can either move it or point the code to it directly
5: open recovery.
6: Flash the superuser.zip through recovery
7: reboot
8: Congratulations, your phone should now be rooted, go have fun with the ability to access your phone fully!
Edit: Here is a copy of the stock recovery recovery_signed.img
For those who want to install busybox, check out this post.
Also, due to the current issues I still haven't had the time to fix I'd suggest using the TWRP recovery for the time being.

Slightly in that the Clockworkmod recovery isn't fully functional (power as select does not work) and as such is missing some features.

I'd suggest installing busybox and using something like this , it's how I'm backing mine up currently.

Hello. Thank you very much for your guide, my One SV is now rooted. But I can't install Busybox ("Installing Busybox failed")... Can you tell us how we can install it ?...

Additional info please.
Hello do we leave the phone in recovery while we finish the code for rooting or should we be in the bootloader, fastboot still, or should the rom be booted up. I just wanna make certain so I dont Brick this thing.

I have got bootloader unlocked, recovery pushed and installed. Now I have unknown device in device manager named k2u that wont intall drivers. I cannot connect via adb shell because it cannot find device??? Any Ideas??

I had the same problem, and after multiple tries I finally find a solution : install HTC Sync, then edit the androidusb.inf file (in my case, the path is C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Win7_x86\androidusb.inf) and add in its "Device section" a line with the ID number of the One SV (you can find it in the Device Manager on your PC) :
%MyHTC%=HTCAND32.Dev, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0D0F&MI_00
Then, restart your PC, reboot your phone in recovery and connect it, Windows must install "new" driver and recognize it as "My HTC", and you can root your smartphone with the guide of bkcokota. It's the only way I've found, but perhaps there is an easiest solution ?
(Sorry for my bad english... I hope that you'll understand what I wrote !)

Crap....

Where can i find the id in device manager.. No HTO One sv listed... Only one listing is My HTC which appears to be fully loaded and functioning. I have htc sync loaded and running i cant adb anything.... Man I am no newbie at this at all but, this is really confusing me!! I hope xxdjvalexx the O.P. Dev pm's me back with some help... I will prevail though!!

The ID is in device manager when you connect your One SV to your PC in recovery ; it's the ID of the "unknown device" named "k2u"... It's normally USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0D0F&MI_00, as I said in my last post.

Open Sesame!!!
Fantastic, Awesome and overall a Great Experience! I have learned a lot over the years with XDA and friends. Patience, is the key oh and reading.. I cant wait until the rom development blows up on this thing. When do you suppose xda will put up a official device development thread??
Probably sometime after it drops on sprint which has anyone heard? Anyway as indicated by my elation above root achieved with this device. Now just wait out the clockwork mod scene. I am on Cricketusers.com on the One SV forum there if anyone needs a helping hand or maybe a beta tester. Just let me everyone. I would love to give something back to this very awesome community I call home on most late evenings and early mornings.
I will be a very active member for this device here as well so hit me up I am constantly on TapaTalk with my phones.
Hooray and Cheers to all the Devs out there!!:highfive:. swes013

Re: [GUIDE] Root for HTC One SV
I'm glad you got it working, I've heard it is coming to Sprint soon but I don't know much more than that, Australia is a bit far away to get the best gossip, I don't know when our if we are getting a forum but considering the fact it hasn't even been out for even a month yet I'd say be patient, just for reference I don't know if this matters to you but I have called up HTC and had a chart to them about getting the kernel source, apparently they don't have out ready yet but it should be up "soon". Hopefully it is soon, I'd love to get cyanogenmod on this. I might drop by the cricket forums and see what is there.

Re: [GUIDE] Root for HTC One SV
Alright guys and gals.... Another small update. Still obviously more obstacles and development will continue as the actual root access is only gained while the rom is powered up. After a power off shutdown, and reboot root is lost. Alas you cannot delete bloat ware apps using root file explorer pro. Also tried doing a few tweaks with my rom toolbox pro like, LCD density, configuring A2SD etc.... Any thoughts chime on in guys lets get this thing hashed out before Sprint gets it. That way all our further development can continue without any hiccups... It seems that without a working recovery the root we push with web will be a useless exploit... Alas at least for now!

In my case, the root isn't lost after a power off shutdown : I shutdown the phone every evening, and I've never lost root...
With SuperManager, I can modify system (the weather database for example), and Titanium Backup works perfectly. The only problem which I have is that I cannot install BusyBox.

Re: [GUIDE] Root for HTC One SV
wow I wonder what went wrong in my case?? Its like it only did a temp root kind of process. I may try to re root the thing again just to see but... I don't wanna fry this thing before I have had it for a little longer I think. You are on cricket
Wireless yes? I just don't know why mine wouldn't take a solid permanent root..?

No, I'm not on Cricket Wireless (I'm French), and my ROM is stock HTC. Have you a specific operator ROM? Maybe it is the cause of the problem?

Hi guys, I'm just going to try my luck on this one.. As I see that you guys have managed to successfully rooted your phones, could someone please do a ROM/system dump and share it..? I would like to port this ROM on our devices. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but it's not possible : the recovery isn't fully functional (see the previous posts), and personally I can't install BusyBox, so I can't make any backup or dump...

Sorry to hear that.. But there's another way AFAIK that works. Using a Root Granted File Explorer (I use X-Plore), you can try to copy the "system" folder to ur sd card.. It "may" copy all of the files of system.. Can you do that for me?

Still cant achieve a permenant root.
Hello everyone, I still cant achieve a permenant root on this one sv. Some more info is that it is Cricket wireless Carrier specific got at a authorized cricket dealer on Like Jan 20 I think. So it saysy its rooted and su asks permission on all root level; apps however when i use root explorer to delete like say cricket nav and crkit mobile browser it deletes them.. they are gone. Until power down or, reboot then they are right back poof. Any bright ideas??
Android 4.04
HTC Sense 4.1
Software number 1.03.1050.5 710RD
Specks in case they help spark any idead although I doubt it...

I still dont have a working root for this phone!! Has I tried this mod here and it seemed to work good. At least the for a minute or two. I then tried to delete some system apps I wanted gone with root explorer. It let me delete them just fine.. Wow just when i thought I was a happy man....BAM rebbot, Powerdown, and reboot, then root changes wont commit. All apks I deleted are back even though my root explorer pro said I was mouted to system as root..?? Funny hugh any help from mmaybe someone on cricket with this phone who achieved a permenant root can help me. Or maybe everyone here is waiting patiently for a working CWM recovery before they try and acieve root. Maybe I should have waited too. Alrhough I dont think I boirked my phone because it still works graet except my root level acess that i want so badly...

I saw this same problem with the HTC Droid DNA. I don't have the One SV, but I suspect that the stock kernel will not let you manipulate the /system folder.
With the DNA there was at least one dev that made a kernel which would allow you to change stuff. Also custom ROMs can have everything modified already. That would work as well.
Oh and which recovery are you using? Does it belong to another phone?

[Q] Rooting an LG Venice

Before anyone tells me to use the search, I already did. There is no forum for my phone specifically, and what few posts I have found that even remotely relate to my issue have been dead for over 3 months and I was not sure how you felt about resurrecting them.
Phone info: LG Venice (LG-LG730), Carrier: Boost Mobile, OS: Android 4.0.4
What I have done so far: I was on another help site(so far not so helpful) and several people have reported success in rooting their Venice following THIS tutorial. I have had no luck following said tutorial. Every time I get to the part where it shows the "restore, yes or no" part (can be found at 13:50 in the video tutorial), and when I click yes to restore, the phone says "starting restore.... restore finished" or something similar, but never actually reboots, and nothing shows up in the CMD window. Now I know that I have never set any encryption passwords, and I verified that these options were turned off in the phone settings.
I have also tried Super One Click, for what its worth, and keep getting stuck on "step 7: waiting for device"
If anyone has any information on how I can easily root this phone, I would be most appreciative. I say "easy" way because I AM totally new to rooting and I don't want mess something up. I apologize ahead of time if I posted this in the wrong area.
Thank you in advance.

FWIW I just rooted both my and my wife's LG Venice phones.
I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 and then method 3 instead of 1 which has worked for others.
android 4.0.4
kernel 3.0.8
build IMM76L
software LG730ZV5
I did try method 1 first and it may be that the two need to be stacked for all I know at present, I will be resetting one phone to factory and trying fresh with method 3 as soon as her 8g SD is ready to go.
I've tried using different versions of Bin4ry's root and none of them work. Im running 4.0.4

On a friends phone, also a Venice (boostmobile) we had some insanity as described below.
The final root check stalled, and we finally stopped the script that was waiting for something for most of a day.
A quick check from the ADB said we had root, and I could get the # prompt and do what I wanted, see the supersu and busybox from the rooting, etc..
Two reboots later, after adding titanium backup, supersu, and stericson-busybox from the play store (or what ever the name is today) everything went swimmingly, and even the problems I had noticed with some audio and video codecs not working had resolved themselves.
I am not sure what version of the rooter from bin4ry we used on mine and my wife's, but on our friend's we used the newest at the time he downloaded which was v25
Alright, i'll try it out. Thank you
You wouldn't by chance have the file on hand would you? I can't seem to find v25

Root Issues Lg 730
:cyclops: Hi XDA... I have an issue also with the Lg730 Venice or (Sol) I have a repeat client that is always coming up with new phones, and keeps me busy rooting, custom flashing, (in general Modding) all his little toys.. I rooted his Lg 730 last yr with adb (Ubuntu12.04) by using the usual push/mount/chmod/install.. This system has worked for me many times, including but not limited to Clone S3's , Clones S2(Chinese) Droids of all flavors, yet with this New OTA 4.1.2 my client lost the previoius Root (I did not flash CustomRom at that time) . I have SERIOUSLY ,tried every method that I know of. Binary's(thanks Binary) which i have used a few times(Donator here) does not seem to work this time. GingerBreak/Psneuter/Fastboot/Rageagainsthecage/Odin/Heimdall (yes i even tried Samsung designs) Nothing works on this new OTA for me. Upgraded to RaringRingtail thinking i was out of date , to my dismay Nothing... I cannot get Root. Fastboot does not pickup device(all drivers in place(Ubuntu/Windows) My biggest challenge ever. I BOUGHT this phone (not because i like it) but for personal reasons. There is limited support for this device. I would like those who read this forum to know, that I AM going to dedicate my spare TIME on the Lg730 Venice from this day on. I have reset BoostMobile Factory settings , taken the stock boot.img , pulled the system, , rooted it, busybox'd it, with run support, zipaligned, added a couple of my favorite apk's,changed the bootanimation, zipped it,(7zip)... Essentially STOCK, with ROOT... I cannot run this on my Device(NO ROOT) but if any1 is interested its ready for flashing... I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOU DEVICE... I will speak to a Moderator before i post link so as to get XDA Forum rules advice first. I take no credit , and i give it all (J.Rummy) (Chainfire)(XDA Developers)(Dsixda)(Koushik Dutta)(Exploid-Crew)for without them many things could not be possible....

I do not have it on hand, and we both semi-accidentally OTA upgraded to jellybean when the prompts got too annoying and lost root all together.
IF you manage to achieve root, best to use OTA rootkeeper BEFORE you upgrade, looks like now I have to use kdz tools and downgrade to v5, root, rootkeeper, and hope I can keep root :/

I would be interested in your theory cyclops. Possibly even in using yours over mine.
I am currently playing with doing much the same thing on a .cab formatted ROM then using the KDZ tool to push the modified v8 ROM (Jelly Bean 4.1.2) and pray I am good as I was when I was a kid
LG730 Venice
Unfortunately i have been unsucessful in Rooting this LG. Very frustrating.. I hope you achieve your goal. Best wishes.... I have also provided an email i can be contacted at directly [email protected] If this helps, and if you are able to sideload, or able to flash its ready to go.

I have tried to use this page/post to root my LG 730 Venice (Android 4.1.2 Software LG 730ZV8). I have downloaded & installed everything but keep getting ERROR messages at the end. Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to install/use bin4ry v31.zip ??
I am almost sure that it would eliminate these errors. I have been using Linux now for over 10 years and this process should be child's play.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Not much info to go on Mike , but here goes, first but not least...... LG730ZV8 package is not rootable.... You need to first downgrade from the LG730ZV8 to LG730ZV5 using LG Tool 500 method... (.cab format from here--> ) http://csmgdl.lgmobile.com/swdata/WDLSW/LG730/ABMUSV/LG730ZV5_01/LG730ZV5_01.S5_00.P61009.cab ... Follow instructions to the letter, and do not miss any steps....... I think its an easier way using the tools but if your a DIY kinda guy , the KDZ method is a little more complex , but rewarding in the end , more so than The 500 Tool simply said , because if your a little like me, i flash many different OS's for the fun of it, and the KDZ method will truely always work when the Tool wont..... Now the KDZ method you can find Here --------------->----------->---------------------->-----------------------------------------------------> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287236.... If you have any problems or questions give4 a shout and i will try to guide you through it ...... Good luck Mike
Ps...... The trick to getting Binary's Root method to work is to put it on Root (c:\Binary.... etc...etc ) go to file press shift and right click to open cmd prompt... Type c:\RunMe ... Choose method #1 restore twice ,reboot 3x and Rooted..

I went into the folder that I extracted the bin4ry file download to and found two other folders:stuff and z_rootkit.. Inside the "stuff" folder I found abd.exe & dlls, busybox, fastboot, glass, install recovery, root me.tar (Linux), rootkittablet.tar.gz Linux), su and superuser.apk.. Now some of the ERROR messages had references to ABD and missing .dlls which were apparently not installed. This where I believe this prog hung up but I have no idea why.
The other folder "z_rootkit" had getroot scripts (.sh) and usbux.ab. I am guessing but I am assuming these might be needed too.
When I extracted to folder bin4ry, there were no other instructions to install from these folders.
This why I was asking for an install instruction file to get all this done.
Hope this helps in the solution !!
Hi Mike ...:cyclops: This will help you out..... You have the right package I believe.. Not sure why its giving you the dll errors... that could possibly be SDK or ADB not installed correctly via path to directory... Check it. Possibly deprecated download file. Too many too list in Windows... Gotta love Ubuntu........ Try downloading Binary's Root by Restore again... open downloads , -> drag n drop file to local c (root) set permissions-> Unzip it . open File . press shift on keyboard while also right clicking pointer, and it will bring up command prompt . Type ( .\RunMe ) in prompt...... When it opens select # (1) follow prompts to Backup---> Restore---> ADB will reboot ---once----twice and android will upgrade ... Let it finish. (3) Third reboot pull plug ---> grant permissions to Superuser or SuperSU on popup... Rooted.... I am assuming you downgraded to LG730ZV5 or LG730ZV6 already....... if there are any problems , or if you have questions let me know......
What to download ??

Just got everything cleaned up and am now ready to do this thing. Went to KDZ but don't know which prog to download plus I don't have B2C on my LG730.
Please let me know where I might find everything I will need to get it done.
Thanks

I have been fighting Win Updates. getting MS Active Sync installed etc. I have never in my life seen such idioatic crap in my life, There HAS TO BE AN EASIER way to root an LGE 730 (Venice) phone. If someone has such info please let me know because using the KDZ method is maniacal at best, I am ready to trash this piece of CR** phone. It CANNOT BE THIS TOUGH TO DO !

[Q] Rooted HTC one S wants to update but can't...

Whats up guys? First I just wanna say hi I am a new member and looks like you guys have a great little community here and I'm glad to be a part of it. I hope someone can help me out. Also, I did watch that noob video, I loved it. Before posting this I have searched found some similar but according to that video service provider matters. I guess no one uses virgin mobile..
Alright, so I have an HTC one S that I have had for almost a year now, bought it brand new through virgin mobile. I used for a while and liked the phone but my buddy at work had a galaxy phone and could do so much cool stuff with his that I wanted to do the same. So one day at work he came to this site and "Rooted" my phone. He was suppose to put a different operating system on it too but never did get around to it (he quit before he could). I didn't know him outside of work so I was stuck with just the root which is cool and all but now jellybean has just come out for my phone about 2 weeks ago. But here's where the problem lies, I go to update my phone and the download and install looks like it goes fine, the phone is plugged in while i update, When the phone restarts after the install, the update is not on it and my phone asks me again to update. I've tried this dozens of times with the same result. I have reformatted my phone in the settings and I lost everything I had on it, but that's no big deal. What I ultimately want is for this update to go through. My question: Is there any thing I can do so that it finally updates to jellybean and this damn notification goes away? Sorry if this is a noob question but I'm really stuck and don't have a lot of techie friends that can help me out.
Thanks in advance

I think your problem is that you're not on the stock recovery. Official updates require stock recovery to be properly installed.
To fix this, first download this http://d-h.st/rZW . It's the stock recovery image. Next you'll need fastboot executable on your computer. This comes with android sdk (google it) but i believe can also be found separately. Then you flash the stock recovery on your phone by first booting your phone into bootloader (by pressing volume down and power button when device is shut down) and then entering fastboot mode by selecting it in the bootloader and finally running a command: fastboot flash recovery ville_recovery_signed.img. Now your phone should be able to install the update.
Option two: as your phone is rooted, you could probably also use an app called flash image gui. It's available in the themes and apps subforum. With it you just first download the file from http://d-h.st/rZW on your phone, then open the flash image gui, browse the downloaded img and flash. After a reboot the update should install.
Please note that I quickly googled for recovery image and even though its named like the correct recovery img I'm not 100% sure its legit. Here in he forums are links to the correct stock recovery if you look around a bit.
Hope this helps!
Sent from my One S. Please hit thanks if I helped.

You can not because your recovery isn't stock so you have to download ruu or ota and flash it vie cmd
Thanks alot guys for the quick reply im going to try this out now. may take me awhile as it looks like i have alot to learn to do this by myself but im sure ill figure it out. and i hit both your little thanks button
All right so after trying both of those out I am still stumped. When I try my first option that adb sdk program package and tried to use the fastboot program on it I get an error. Now I typed this error into your forums and searched around and found some hope but once tried it still didn't work. It's an .".dll" file is missing when I get home to a computer I'll post a link for it. I do understand the steps just this fastboot program won't load.
Now option 2 is what really messes me up because I swear my phone was rooted but I'm scared from trying to factory reset this phone so may ways I may have it only half rooted if that's what its called. Because after I bought this IMG flash program downloaded the image to my phone the program says that there no root so I downloaded and payed for another of this dudes apps that tells me if my phone is rooted and it says sorry has no root access. But if my phone has no root access then why would it boot into that teamwin screen...
I even took a 3rd option and clicked the phone image button on the teamwin start screen. After that flashes I get another error saying that it didn't work so my question now. Is my phone even rooted? And have I ruined anything so far like could I send it in for warranty or is it considers tamperd.
I have tried to explain this the best I can apologize for spelling mistakes. But any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.again thanks in advance.

Install htc sync on your pc to get the drivers. Then download viper ROM along with its boot.img flash script. Flash viper through that "team win thing" (lol
Then put your phone into bootloader, then fastboot USB connected to pc and run the boot.img flash script.
That would be about the easiest way to get jellybean on your phone.
Pm me if you need more help our can't find links.

So last night I emailed the creator of the app I used to check my root and here is the msg I got back. Today is a day off and I'm just spending the day browsing the forums and looking for the right tools to fix it. if you get this in mean time can you maybe help to point me in the right way. I really don't want to bug you guys on this forum I know how you hate people like me but I live in a small town and am really relaying on this forum to completely teach me everything from scratch. hopefully without bricking my device that's sounds horrible. Here's my email I got back.
Hi,
The Root Checker Pro results show the device does not have root access setup and unless you've erased and re-installed Android, the device appears to have never had proper root access. I would suggest relying on the same forum to locate the latest and most accurate directions on unlocking the internal memory write protection and then gaining proper root access.
Flash Image GUI will loading custom kernels and assist with loading custom ROMs on devices that have internal memory write protection, such as your HTC One S.
Thanks for the support!

Is your bootloader unlocked? You can check by (with your phone on) hold "volume down" and "power" until button lights at bottom start blinking and the screen turns off... At that point let go of the power button but keep holding the volume down button And eventually you will see the boot loader screen. At the top of the screen it will either say locked or unlocked. Check and report back.

Ya its unlocked but now thats the only screen i can get to i tried to flash that stock image and when i did my phone went into some scfeen that showed a phone and some triangle with an explanation mark. my phone either boots up now to a htc quietly brilliant screen or if i hold the volume down button when its off it goes to that boot-loader screen that shows unlocked and tamperd at the top this is all i really know. Guys im sorry im trying to act like i know what im talking about but in all honesty i really have no idea. im really just pissed now that i even touched it cause it was working fine before besides the wifi constantly shutting down and bugging me to update to jelly bean. I honestly really shoudnt be here i just really wanted my phone fixed and i cant find anyone to pay localy to do it for me so thought i would try to do it with google but now im here. please just tell me if this phone has just become an expensive coaster AKA garbage thanks again for all the help.

I think what you should do is:
- find ruu matching to your carrier and download it
- relock the bootloader
- flash stock recovery
- boot into bootloader and go to fastboot mode
- connect use cable and wait till phone screen shows fastboot usb
- run the downloaded ruu.exe on pc and wait for it to complete
- on successful completion your phone will be same as you got from a store
Just note that flashing ruu will cause hboot upgrade as well.
If my post helps, remember to use the thanks button.

wouldnt that "ruu" be what the gentleman in the very first reply in option 1 gave me? i have the file and tried flashing with the one button root tool kit by hasoon2000 i clicked on flash recoveroy then chose the file ville_recovery_signed.img. and let the black screen (beleive its called cmd) do its thing but really it looks like its doing nothing and my phone wont boot up the main screen where i can receive texts or make calls. thanks
Ok so i found a friend that understands the way you guys have explained this. Now the unfortunate part is that the virgin mobile (canada) RUU file is extreamly difficult to find. So my question now is do you know where i can find this file i have searched the forums and google but with no luck. im sure once we find this file my phone will be fixed then im not touching it AGAIN! cant explain how much i appreciate all your guys help and patience with me.
Thanks again

I cannot seem to find an ruu for my phone from telus and trying to flash the recovery will not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I emailed HTC and asked for it. if i get it i will send it your way.

[Q] LG Motion (Possible Cyanogen mod?)

Hey everyone! I would like to start off by saying that I am brand new here, and am surely going to mess up quiet alot... But here goes,
I've recently rooted my phone with a very simple guide, and it's the first device I've every rooted. So I know very little of the process of doing so, (I'm learning slowly).
I also have found a rom that I would like to install, but I would love to know if others think it seems legit? If it is real, I know many people would absolutely love to use it! The rom's URL is (ht tp:// playfuldroidz.com /wiki/ CyanogenMod_10_Motion) (Please remove spaces, sorry as I said i'm new...)
Now I don't mind testing this myself, but being as new as I am at android I honestly do not know how to follow the relatively simple instructions.
(This Is where I need some help, Please be noob cautious!)
Download the .zip & copy to phone or sdcard (make sure 4g or wifi is enabled if dl'd from phone).
Zip can be installed from either internal or external sd in CWM (Which ever you copied it too!)
MAKE A BACKUP!!!
DO A FACTORY RESET!!! - this will wipe data & cache!
Go to install zip from sdcard
Choose zip from sdcard
Select cm-10-xxxxxxxxxx-UNOFFICIAL-l0.zip
Confirm
Repeat Steps 5 -8 for gapps
Reboot
Now my first question I'd love some help with, is how do I perform this backup there talking about? do they just mean my simple go into settings and click backup? Or should I do it some otherway?
Second question: Do they mean the phones built in service of factory reset?
Third Question: To install a Zip from an SD card do I need to simply use ES file explorer, or root file browser? Or is there a custom way to install a Zip file on android?
Fourth and final Question: What is gapps..? Is this something I should get or use?
EDIT: I've got a fifth one also... Thanks to anyone who's stayed this long and is willing to help me.! Will this Cyanogen mod (If working) Work almost exactly like a real nexus Operating system? I've got a nexus 7 tablet running stock android, and I love it! That's why I'm doing this to my phone honestly.
Thank you all greatly!

Question 1,2 and 3.. they are all done through Clockworkmod. Look through the menus you'll see it if you still struggle look on YouTube.
Question 4.. gapps is Google Apps you need to flash this after the ROM to get the play store and all the other standard Google apps.
Question 5.. in your eyes pretty much, it'll look the same but with more features obviously.
Thank you alot!
Thanks! now i've only gotta do one last thing, and see if anyone knows whether or not this website is a reliable source, or atleast if the mod works...

I was just wondering if there's a chance this clock work mod thing doesn't work on my phone? I don't really know how, or where it is either... and I'd love some help with that... Thank you!
(Edit) I don't think there is a clockwork mod for my device... According to the Rom Manager app I was told to use for installing it.

If you did what it said in the instructions *root it, cwm, install custom rom* then after installing the custom rom it has it's own cwm. turn off the phone, turn in back home and press the back and home button together at the same time and it should take you to the rom's cwm. If the phone does a factory reset by pressing the back and home button then you did the installation wrong.
But just in case I'll setup a full instruction for you.
Root your phone.
Which can be done easily, just download this and extract the files: http://www.mediafire.com/?dhdbwflnl1vknx2
once you extract the files put your phone on debugging mode which can be done by going to settings, developer mode, and click usb debug.
once you've done that connect your phone to the pc *make sure it's on charge only* wait for driver installation to finish. once that's done click root. follow instructions on the screen it shouldn't be too hard! after following instructions you should be rooted and have cwm. but to install the recovery go to your apps and find lte 2nd init recovery and then click the top button, agree to super su to use it and you're done with rooting and cwm! now. these files you were talking about, download them and put them on sd which can be done with a file manager. after they've downloaded go to the lte 2nd init and click the bottom button. it will reboot the phone and take you to cwm. While you are in cwm click on the home button to go to external which is the sd, then go to backup and restore, and click backup! this is very important. miss this step and things could go bad. Now all you have to do is follow the instructions you posted yourself and you should be done! if you need any help don't hesitate to message me. I've done this for a long time now.
Whoops forgot to add. the website IS a reliable source. Learned that cause I'm a risk taker and decided to try it out myself. and do not use rom manager or anything like that for recovery. ever. especially on phones that do not have their own recovery mode. also. the CM10 works great in my opinion! But there's a catch. for me at least. even though everything is perfect during phone calls I cannot use my 4g. which is a bad thing for me cause I need it. other than that if that doesn't bother you or anything or don't have service then knock yourself out and install the cm10!
COMPLETED) This mod worked, all things are now finished except one small issue!
So after installing the mod with some great help of someone here on this forums, I've been basically beta testing the mod for a few days. I have nearly no complaints, as almost everything works seemlessly just like you'd except the operating system to. In the end I found one single issue though, which is terribly annoying for me in specific...
My GPS isn't working, which could be one of many things other than the rom. Seeing as I only recognized It yesterday, there may be an outside reason it at random shut off. If anyone know's what can cause this, and a fix for it please comment back!
Thanks to everyone who helped with installing the mod

Please help me with the rom
Hey guys not sure if i am suppose to post this here but i couldnt find any where else and i couldnt find an answer with my exact problem, i installed this rom on my moms lg motion and everything went find untill i got to gapps it came up with an error inside of cwm so i just contined all the other flashes i had to do and rebooted i thought that i could just flash gapps later. But i mad a very big booboo i installed the Recovery APK for it in cm 10 i forgot all about pressing reboot and saying reboot into revocovery so i was going to try it though the Recovery APK so i installed the thing and pressed reboot and instead of taking me into recovery it takes me to a screen that says something like "mourning call error" which i dont know what means but i had to take out the battery and turn the phone back on so that worked and i got back to the home screen but i still cant install gapps so she can use all the google sevices i tried rebooting with the built in reboot into recovery (the one that you press reboot when you hold the power button) and that does the same exact thing i have no way of flashing gapps or anything else for that matter can someone please help me i have no idea what to do. everything i working on the phone but that. thank you sorry if i put this in the wrong place.
Confused my droid using this method- would love in on this thread
Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place-punch me if I have-
I rooted my lgms770 with version f firmware- installed cwm and 2ndinit recovery (2nd init was the only known way (to me anyway) to get into cwm at the time) followed this guide ---
[LgMotion All Things root] and
[GUIDE] Unbrick OR Unroot LG Motion 4G [KDZ] - Android Forums
I am not allowed to post urls yet...sorry...its the the first google hit
I've tried multiple versions of the official LG Firmware flash, from the website, and by following this guide-
AOKP Dirty Unicorns baseless port cm10 - Android Forums Actually, its the unicorns that got me.
With no luck there. I am running Mint16, and had to run the programs through Wine of course, then tried Q4wine, and eventually tried running though Oracle VM, and finally, I wiped my ancient dell of Linux altogether and put WinXP back on it (took 2 hours, that). No cigar. And yes, I did the drivers, all in order, etc, tried again, reinstalled etc
I finally set up adb to try to get into this droid that way, but am having problems with port permissions (I'm going to guess that's on my pc's end-running Mint16)
I can access the factory reset screen (the black and white), download mode, and the battery charges on a black screen with a nice purple font, but I am still stuck in a bootloop. I've employed all known button spamming combos to get back into cwm (there is a nandroid in there somewhere)..but alas...
Help me Obi-Wan-Kenobi's..
Peach
I had the purple letters with no way to get to the factory reset screen i just used the lg online flash tool in upgrade recovery put in the imei of the phone in made sure the phone was in usb download mode then it was fixed but for some odd reason i still cant get my phone to the factory reset option. I apologize sincerely if I wasn't detailed enough if you need any clarification on it then let me know through pm or i could even send u a link to my box folder i keep the install files in.
(Also i have a one click root app for the LGMS770 So if you or anyone would like the link i would be happy to give it to you)

[Q] Rooting HTC Desire 500 single sim Query

Hi, I have a New HTC Desire 500 single sim, and I would like full root. Previously I had a HTC Wildfire buzz and my wife had a HTC Explorer. With the Help of XDA Developers I rooted Both, unlocked the bootloader, (S-Off on wildfire) and have installed around 20 ish custom roms sucessfully throughout the net, so I am familiar with the rooting processes.
The HTC Desire 500 single sim however has got me stumped. I have already unlocked bootloader and installed the custom recovery. Originally I joined xda to ask a question about the below (copy and pasted) instructions, but I wasnt a developer or didnt have the 10 posting so I couldnt. This was posted by Junior Member and credits go to
@ SPSPaWn, I have followed the instructions and can confirm this does give you root access as well as installing Super SU.
So I got what I wanted so whats the problem?
well the problem is whilst the root is permanent, some of the programs (stock programs and modules) come back \ reinstall themselves when I reset or the phone resets. I have downloaded a few root checkers from android market and confirm I have root. so for example of what im trying to unistall, Keyboards - I have loads of them installed, Russian, Spanish, (every other country you could think of) I only want english, so I got a root uninstaller and unistalled the following, Keyboards - all except English, Twitter and Stock. Sometimes it would hard reset on uninstall Twitter or Stock and when it booted back up again, all the stock modules \ programs would be back installed again, or at least appear in the list again of things I can uninstall.
Im thinking this is down to 2 reasons, 1) there appears to be a system program called recovery, which I havnt uninstalled for safety reasons, as there is no custom roms available for the phone yet, and I really cant afford to screw it up.
The other is whats different about the way I rooted the desire 500 compared to my wildfire is that I still have not figured out, or have not found a successful program to turn the S switch off in bootloader. I did this on my wildfire and had full rights, and when I removed system programs they remained removed, HTC desire 500 no such luck. So Im really thinking its one of these and Im more inclined to think its the S switch in bootloader, but nothing touches it at the moment, guessing its still too new.
Any thoughts or ideas, im going bold from scratching my head. Thanks.

You have instaled CWM Recovery!
Install SuperSu
Enter CWM Recovery and install this .zip download.chainfire.eu/282/Sup...etrieve_file=1
Your device should be rooted now!
Tested and working!
Maybe this is a methode to gain root in a 'complete' and flawless way?

build.prop
I sucesfully have
Unlocked bootloader
installed CWM
installed SuperSU
root works
If I make some change in build.prop and save it all works fine, but after reboot all set back to stock

Need some help as a nood for my HTC One S

Hey all this will seems to be quite an odd thread to all. but its been long i have been using generic HTC one S and i know this site very well since i bought my phone 3 years ago!
Very well, I need to know some basic stuff so i can get perfect mod and upgraded without making it available for my younger brother to play with it by throwing it on wall.
So a good help will be really appreciated.
Only couple of questions:
1. Best ROM that support Indian HTC one S models.
2. Best and 100% working method to get this done successfully.
3. Any way i can backup the generic ROM and framework and get things moving ?
please don't get angry on me, just help me to get my phone renovated.
Thanks XDA

Hi there,
Im a One S user, so PM me if you need anything or reply to this thread so everyone can see
Answers:
1) This matters on opinion, but I would recommend cyanogenmod 11 (or 12.1 as Lollipop). Don't do this yet, see answer 3 to back up.
2) I would just follow my next answer here but if you need a detailed reply, reply back.
3) Unlock bootloader, quite easy, and S-OFF first, in case you lose any data. Any music/pics/etc pls transfer to pc first . Then, after S-OFF (or unlocked bootloader) install a custom recovery TWRP by getting the img file, booting to FASTBOOT mode (If you are on stock OS then go to Settings -> Power -> Uncheck fast boot (This will allow you to boot into fastboot)) .
Then, if that's all succesfull, the rest is easy . Download a new rom (like my answer 1 suggests, CM11 or CM12.1) then flash it . I highly recommend making a nandroid backup in TWRP after this is done transfer to PC. With TWRP 2.8.7.0 you can enable MTP mode in recovery, and then transfer whole TWRP folder to PC. Then, give a full wipe twice for all partition in TWRP (except for USB-OTG obviously).
Any more questions please contact me or reply to this thread, thanks.
