[Q] Resetting binary counter to zero - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Had a binary count of 3 because I did not deselect auto-reboot when flashing CWM. Am using UK, de-odexed, XXBLK2 ROM. Flashed back to stock recovery. Used Triangle Away and the binary count only decreased to 1.
Questions:
How do I reset the binary count to zero? The conditions are stock ROM and stock recovery - is this right? (Mobile Odin Pro + root injected, then Triangle Away?)
If I flash stock with Mobile Odin Pro, will the binary count increase?

I dont think mobile odin affects binary count but what you can do is use the app "triangle away" which requires root. It will take care of the binary count for you.

I used Triangle Away three times and the counter is stuck at 1.
What's your set-up? Did you remove CWM? Are you on a custom ROM? What root method did you use?

Try the TA thread .
jje

Thanks for the tip.
- My counter always stays at 1
Some devices/bootloaders set the counter to 1 at every boot if you are running a custom kernel or recovery. On these devices, Triangle Away may always display 1 - make sure to check the counter in actual download mode, and make sure you are running a stock Samsung kernel and recovery.

It seems to be paradox? Rooting will increase the flash counter. However, root is required to run TriangleAway.

note rooted .
Download TA read the TA description re rom count 1 .
Run TA
Again read the description re counter at 1
Now as Chainfire has said multiple times you don't just use this tool unless you need to as it has a chance of bricking your phone .
Ideal and what it is meant for is to allow a return under warranty with rom counter zero .
But you will still have status as modified in system settings unless you have a stock rom .
Flash stock rom via Odin and factory reset phone then root and run TA if counter still above zero .
Followed by a stock rom Odin flash .

I need to return it for warranty. The salepeople aren't convinced that Smart Stay doesn't detect my eyes well plus they patronised me saying that my warranty has been voided and that it can't be fixed by software. :silly: I only sent the S Pen off to Samsung for warranty to do the potentiometer tweaking (because if I do it myself, it will give them another reason to deny me of warranty) to increase sensitivity.
Is this what each step does?
Flash stock with root: counter will be zero with system modified
Flash stock: counter will be zero without root == system official
What about Mobile Odin? Flash stock with root injected, run Triangle Away. Remove SuperSU to unroot. Will the counter be at zero with official status?

If you're going to return it, then download and flash the stock ROM, which should be ICS. That means you can then root it with Exonys Abuse.
Then Triangle away to zero the counter
Check it's worked.
Remove Triangle Away
Now decision is yours
1.Return it like that with Exonys Abuse on, since it's a major security problem they can hardly void warranty for using the exploit.
2. Once counter is back to zero, reflash the stock rom to erase root
---------- Post added at 08:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:41 AM ----------
Just for Info, I checked my Status.
Custom Binary : No
Current Binary : Samsung Official
System Status: Official
That's with German 4.1.2 flashed via Odin Mobile - rooted with Everroot
Kies says unsupported due to CSC mismatch (I think)
PDA: MA1 /PHONE: LL1 / CSC: MA1 (XSG)
Still waiting for a JB for the UAE

How come yours is official? I used Mobile Odin with root injected official 4.1.1 ROM for my country, Malaysia. Triangle Away is still stuck at 1.
Does this mean ONLY ICS will reset the counter to 0, and JB can't? Thanks for the detailed instructions with explanations!

My root is Darkmans RS CWM_recovery .
Counter 0 status official but the other status in settings is custom .

If youre gonna send it back, odin to full ics stock, root with exynos exploit, triangle away, then factory reset and odin back to stock again. That should put you back to 0 binary, stock config, and all statuses back to original.

Beats me
I had German JB 4.1.1 (N8000XXCLL3) installed along with CWM. Took CWM nandroid backup just in case.
Then flashed German JB 4.1.2 (N8000XXCMA1) with Mobile Odin and it reverted to stock recovery with the status as shown. I didn't need to use Triangle Away either because it seemed not to notice CWM.
Who knows what reasons it uses to change the flags it seems pretty random

Are your instructions in line with this post? Flash ICS from Odin, root with Exynos Exploit, Triangle Away, boot into stock recovery and factory reset.
Clarifying everything in case I dig myself into a deeper hole by bricking my device or increasing the binary counter unnecessarily.
WARNING - When you downgrade from JB to ICS most probably you will get stuck at the Samsung Logo and your device will not boot, You will need to go into recovery and do a complete wipe & reset to boot
So always backup your data before flashing a Rom

Bulbous, you're so lucky that you didn't trip the binary counter!

BUMP as this post is now in the second page of the forum.
I need to clarify these steps as I will be sending it for warranty.

Went through this myself just the other day...
1. Flashed official ICS rom with ODIN.
2. Rooted with exynos exploit. Loaded triangle away and ran that.
3. Flashed official ICS rom with ODIN again. Then after flash finished, went to stock recovery and wiped data/cache.
If didn't work 1st time, Rinse and repeat...
Counter at "0", Status "Official".

Is the warranty still void if the System Status shows modified under About Device -> Status? It's all official under Download Mode with the binary counter FINALLY back to zero. Samsung Official and No Custom Binary. Using Exynos Exploit is okay because it's a security flaw right?
I'm on stock ICS for my country Malaysia.
Need to return it for warranty as I have a dead pixel on the screen.

[Q] Flashing back to stock for warranty.

My flash counter is still at 0. im on stock 2.3.5, but i am rooted.
so what if i wanted to flash to stock.
how could i do this without tripping the counter?
if i follow this tutorial will it trip? or if i use a jig to get into download mode and flash stock will it trip. (not reset counter, just keep it from going to 1 while i flash stock)
also how could i restore the default recovery and get rid of cwm?
When you flash the recovery.tar using odin it will remove cwm. And I don't think it will make 1 but not 100% sure.

Root p3100 with a single file(without flashing bootloader, odin, heimdall, counter+1)

I rooted my G-9100I by just installing one .zip via original bootloader/installer (without flashing any CWM / bootloader via odin, heimdall, counter +1, whatever)
Now I'm wondering if there's any way doing it with the GT-P3100
I think the problem is that the install file has to have a valid signature...
So is there a (valid signed) single "root file" for the GT-P3100? (Using original stock rom 4.1.1)
All files I found so far have invalid signatures :crying:

Hi Brad... thx 4 reply
this file (CF-Auto-Root-espressorf-espressorfxx-gtp3100.zip) is based on a custom bootloader (wich has to be installed by Odin) and will increase the flashcounter as well...

Hey Kunal thx for the hint but I want to keep the original bootloader - there must be a way to sign the paket so you don't need to update the loader
it is not possible to root p3100 without flashing, odin, raising flash counter
as to root first you got to
1.flash cwm recovery and them root
2.directly flash root package
3.flash pre rooted firmware
everything offer flashing.
its like flashing firmware without using any odin mobile one or pc one
so
what's the big deal flash cf auto root and use triangle away to reset.
i wanted one too

well not that odin and then triangle away is bad, but i have to say it's unsafe and trying to get the drivers installed and working is a real pain.
I too rooted my friend's sgs2 with the same way as c-tec, and i must say that was the best experience of rooting ever. not even 10 seconds and its so easy and u dont lose ur warranty...
so I think that if there isn't one, there should be one....
well another way to not lose ur warranty and be rooted
there were some pre rooted stock roms(4.1.x) in the forum somewhere with wipe and no wipe option( for many countries), they could be flashed via odin.
that's the best way to avoid using triangle away and be rooted(at least what i could find).
then if u like custom roms then use rom manager to flash cwm and u r good to go for custom roms without actually increasing the flash counter.
Cheers

Right a1shakes - that's my point - maybe I try that modyfied stock rom (later) ...
but I'm still impressed by that single file (for SGS2) - I also tried those On-Click Tools via ADB - but it seems that those exploits only work on 4.0.4 roms for the P3100.
I will get back to this post if I found another way

Galaxy S 4 - Random reboots after many ROM flashings

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here, but I've read the guidelines, don't hate
I got an international version SGS4 (i9505) and it got instantly rooted the day I purchased it.
The first rom I flashed was a i9505 Google Edition Rom... Everything worked fine but I didn't like it so much.
So I cleaned everything and I installed Foxhound (2.0)... and the problems started: maybe it's just because the two ROMs use different kernels, but my device started reboot randomly!
So I flashed a kernel cleaner (the Kernel Cleaning_Script by jivy26), I cleaned the cache and all the data... Then I installed the latest stable version of CyanogenMod (with Android 4.2.2)
Nothing.
My SGS4 continously reboots and sometimes it's difficult to restart it. I'm so sad, I just bought this phone and it works so bad.
Maybe I should install a Stock Rom and unroot my device?
Any advices/cleaning methods to stop these random crashes?
Please respond
Dem
I would flash full stock via odin and use it for few days.

Try a factory wipe first, if the reboots keep happening, I would do a fresh, clean flash of the stock tar. What I usually do is I format data through TWRP, it will say I lost root and if I want to retain it, I answer no. I reboot into download mode and flash stock tar through Odin. Then I root with CF-Auto-Root, and finally flash a custom recovery.

Thank you so much... then I decided to install an Official test leaked firmware 4.3 (I9505XXUEMJ3) via Odin.
Everything works fine, but (although the system's more responsive and stable) I had another random reboot God why?
Maybe it's just a problem with kernel... I installed 3-4 Roms, and maybe my phone is not clean... but I flashed via Odin, I erased everything (cache, format/data/factory). It's so strange...
I feel like I have to throw away my phone... please help!
EDIT: my phone crashed and it is bootlooping now.
My phone is now officially bricked. After I flashed the latest official Samsung Rom my phone started bootlooping and crashing at the Samsung logo. The only thing I can do now is to use the recovery, but even if I format/data factory nothing changed.
Any possible solutions?
My patience is collapsing with this phone T_T
So let me get this straight...you had an instability issue (reboots) and after all the help from the guys here suggesting to flash a stable stock rom, you decided to go ahead and flash a leaked firmware?
Find the latest OFFICIAL STOCK 4.2.2 rom and try again. Don't even root, just check with a stable rom so you can see if your issue is hardware related.
Try downloading and flashing one of the sammobile firmwares.

Why on earth are trying something you don't know about. If you don't follow the guides here on xda it will not work. You have to install custom Recovery's in order to clean and erase your whole phone. If you don't it will keep on DIRTY FLASHING and acting up or rebooting or what ever. Stock recovery is basically useless for what Your trying to do.

Which stock 4.2.2 rom did you try?
When you installed 4.3 stock rom, you probably also installed the new knox bootloader, so in order to go back to 4.2.2 you must install a stock rom like XXUDMH8 or XXUDMI1 that have the new bootloader.

Yeah that's basically it. After you have custom Recovery installed do a complete wipe of everything twice just to make sure. Then go ahead and install stock with Odin and your random boots should be gone.

Keep in mind that with so many flashes, if you already have the new bootloader, you may have triggered the Knox efuse and voided your warranty.
You can check that in download mode, if knox warranty is 0x0 you are fine. If it is 0x1 you have triggered it.
You can look for more info in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447832

[Q] Need help! Can't unroot/unbrick Galaxy S3!

So let me start from the beginning;
I have Verizon's Galaxy S3 and had CyanogenMod 10.2 installed on it. After installing CM 10.2, I no longer had 4G/3G connection. After some research, I had discovered that it had to do with my device's APN. Anyways, what I found online was to unroot, and flash to a stock ROM, and wipe/reset factory settings, etc.
I started by flashing a stock ROM found on this site (don't remember the name) however, after rebooting, my phone had gotten stuck in the white Verizon logo loop. After pulling the battery, I tried flashing the image again in ODIN, but the same thing happened, I figured this is what was known as a "soft brick". I followed another guide on here to unroot/unbrick the phone, which had me download another stock rom (stock.vzw_root66), as well as VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5, and BOOTLOADER-I535VRALF2-618049-REV09-user-low-ship.tar-2-.md5. Following the instructions had me PDA flash the VRALEC-bootchain.tar.md5 first, followed by the bootloader, and finally the stock image. However, I continued to get "FAIL!" after attempting to flash the VRALEC-bootchain.tar.md5.
Following another guide, it said to just try flashing the stock.vzw_root66 file, which I had done, and it succeeded, however, after the phone reboots, it says that I am using unauthorized firmware on my device, and to bring my phone to the nearest Verizon store.
Now, I have no idea what to do.
I'm using ODIN3 v3.07
Both the VRLEC.bootchain.tar.md5 and BOOTLOADER-I535VRALF2-618049-REV09-user-low-ship.tar-2-.md5 fails when trying to flash them onto my phone, and I don't want to proceed from here unless I know how to fix it, as to not damage the phone any further. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The phone still boots into a stock recovery, and can still enter download mode. At this point, I just want my phone completely stock, as if I had just purchased it.
You shouldn't be getting the "unauthorized firmware" warning after flashing root66, as that is a stock image. You could try to boot into stock recovery and perform a factory reset from there. I'm not even sure if that's possible I haven't used stock recovery in so long .
Besides that I don't know what would help you. Maybe try reflashing the root66 file or try a different stock image. Do you have a link to the exact root66 file you are using?
Boot into download mode and post what it says on the top left corner.

Sorry, I meant that it says unauthorized software, and it has the yellow triangle. I've tried reflashing the root66 file, which is the only thing that actually "PASS"'s in ODIN, whilst everything else consistently fails.
Since then, I've followed this tutorial (Specifically section 5)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
And downloaded that "VRALG1 4.0 ICS-http://www.mediafire.com/download/kk...w_ship.tar.zip" file that was recommended, and after trying to flash it in the PDA box of ODIN (With auto-reboot and F. Reset Time checked), it FAIL's.

After looking at the screen with download mode still on, right after the above file failed in ODIN, it reads:
_______________________________
ODIN MODE
Product Name: SCH-I535
Custom Binary Download: Yes (3 counts)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
Warranty Bit: 0
Bootloader AP SWREV: 1
SW Rev Check Fail : Fused 1 > Binary 0 **(This part I believe was added after the FAIL of trying to flash the VRALG1 4.0 ICS file.)

So far, the only file I've been able to successfully flash in ODIN is the stock.vzw_root66 file. Everything else constantly FAILs. Thanks for the ongoing help!
I'm pretty sure those download mode stats you have are from the new bootloader. When you said this:

... I'm thinking you flashed a stock 4.3 ROM in ODIN and therefore locked your bootloader. This would also explain the yellow triangle when trying to flash root 66 afterwards. If I am correct, the good news is all you have to do is flash a stock 4.3 ROM to get back up and running. The bad news is you re-locked your bootloader and are stuck with TouchWiz.

You're a life-saver! I just did this and my phone now works again! I couldn't thank you enough!

kernel is not seandroid enforcing set warranty bit kernel

kernel is not seandroid enforcing set warranty bit kernel
My Sprint Galaxy S5 will only show the above no matter what I try. I had just rooted my new phone and I was trying to install TWRP. I must have made an error. In my search others have had the same problem however, when I tried their fix it did not work for me. I reran root using Odin3 but no luck. In an other post they said to put these 2 files "firasusman and META-INF" on an external sd card and flash them using the custom recovery. Unfortunately I don't have access to any recovery. The only thing I can do is get my phone in ,is download mode with Oden3.
When in download mode in the upper left corner of my phone it says -
"odin mode
product name: SM-G900P
current binary: custom
system status: custom
knox warranty void 0x1 (4)"
So I guess no warrenty if there is no fix. Obviously I would be extremely grateful for any help.
Thank you
I've always rooted my phones. The last time I turned one in for warranty it had the knox tripped, they sent me a new phone, I sent the old one with the cracked screen back, and I never heard another word. YMMV
If you install the stock kernel that shouldn't show it, I just don't let it bother me and run whatever kernel works best.

Can you tell me where I can find a "stock" kernel and can it be installed using Oden 3 ? I don't know if that would work as I have already tried to rerun the auto root program and the problem remains.

I'm using the MOAR rom with stock kernel and Philz recovery. Says the same thing when it boots.. I wouldn't worry about it. As soon as you flash a custom recovery you tripped knoks (sp?), you can't go back to 0/0 once you trip it to 0/1.

I would love to install the MOAR rom. Unfortunately I do not have a custom recovery to flash it. The only way I can access my phone is with Odin 3. Can I flash a rom with Oden 3?
