I am rooted and have cwm on my phone, also I have ice cream sandwhich Rom. Step by Step how do I go back to Stock, thankyou to anyone that can tell me.
There are so much stuff that isnt really clear on going back to stock. If anyone can explain step by step and If they have the file and can upload the stock rom thankyou
having problems reading the sticky that already explains how to do this???
The TAR ODIN sticky thread? Be careful, it is not clear whether or not that method will trigger your flash counter. So far I have not found a clear explanation of how to return to stock without triggering the flash counter.
Flashing stock firmware will not trip the counter. You need to download odin here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=725858&d=1316556218
Then the stock tar found here http://k0nane.info/rom/SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane.7z
Download and install the program 7zip. Unzip the. 7z file you downloaded above.
Open odin. Click pda and select the stock.tar file you unziped. Then start odin.
Make sure re-partition is not checked.
And make sure you have the usb drivers for the skyrocket installed.
You also must have your phone in download mode to use odin.
^^ Should be added to a stickie, as the TAR ODIN thread gives a different solution for going back to stock that does trip the flash counter.
Can you verify that using odin for the stock tar does trip the flash counter? I have read using odin with a stock tat does not
only thing that SHOULD trip your counter is a custom kernel flash from ODIN....
this is why I started this question and yes I saw the sticky but everything is so unclear I was hoping without getting to technical someone could explain it in a simple way without confusion. But I was wrong
Thank you pirate and thats what i thougt. Ok so the instructions in the reaturn to stock thread are really simple. There not to technical 1. Download Odin 1.85 - see section below. 2. Download the stock TAR for your device - see section below. 3. Extract the contents of odin-185.zip and the 7zip archive. 4. Run Odin3+v1.85.exe, and prepare Odin:
Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options. Click PDA and select the TAR you downloaded.
5. Put your device into Download Mode:
Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device. Remove the battery. Reinsert the battery. Hold down Volume Up and Volume Down keys. (NOTE: It may be just Vol Down. Try that first!) Insert the USB cable into your device.
6. You should now be at Download Mode. Click Start in Odin.
That's it! Your device will autoreboot, and your phone should be working properly again.
so you dont have to go in cwm and do a factory reset and delete anything, you can just follow your directions and its good to go?
When you odin the stock tar it erases everything. And takes you back to 100 percent stock
thankyou very much
I have flashed back to stock a few times using Odin and konanes stock.tar and I have never used Odin for anything else and it Does trip the flash counter at least for me it did.

geterdone18: you'll have to post back and let us all know if your flash counter tripped flashing the stock tar (as it did for niezek).
I just flashed back to stock, how do you check for the flash counter?
well hold on I just flashed the recovery tar using Odin, it worked fine but for some reason when I go to Odin and try to pull up the stock rom in PDA it doesnt show it there in the folder, does anyone know why it is doing this? And where do you go to check and see if the flash counter was tripped

I've used only Odin per the instructions in the sticky to root, go back to stock once then root again with the tar provided in the sticky and can confirm it did trip my counter
i think if you flash the stock kernel in CWM, then flash a /system in ODIN, it wont trip anything. AFAIK, the counter only trips when installing kernels via ODIN/Heimdall

When I used Odin to go back to stock I had a rom installed which I'm sure had a custom kernel so maybe that's what tripped it?
Naturally, I am rooted on 2.3.5, if I do this update, will I lose root access and/or will I not be able to update do to my skyrocket being rooted?

Update will remove root and will fail if you have CWM installed, it requires stock recovery to apply (this is of course if you go the official update route).
Return to stock recovery
So how do I return to stock recovery from cwm? I'm not so concerned about this update, but I'd like to use stock ics when it comes out. ( keeping root, of course)

Flash stock recovery with ODIN, make sure there is not a kernel in the .tar or the flash counter will trip.
Another question and sorry if I sound like a newb! Will I easily be able to reroot my phone?

If you get familiar with ODIN (and heed the same warning I posted above) all you end up having to do is flash CWM recovery and then install superuser via an update zip file. You may have to flash it "2 - 3 times to get it to complete without error" I am not sure why it does that but I followed the instructions around here somewhere.
Many thanks to you guys! I had the same question.

I rooted my G-9100I by just installing one .zip via original bootloader/installer (without flashing any CWM / bootloader via odin, heimdall, counter +1, whatever)
Now I'm wondering if there's any way doing it with the GT-P3100
I think the problem is that the install file has to have a valid signature...
So is there a (valid signed) single "root file" for the GT-P3100? (Using original stock rom 4.1.1)
All files I found so far have invalid signatures :crying:

Hi Brad... thx 4 reply
this file (CF-Auto-Root-espressorf-espressorfxx-gtp3100.zip) is based on a custom bootloader (wich has to be installed by Odin) and will increase the flashcounter as well...
I'm looking for a valid signed .zip WITHOUT using a custom bootloader.tar.md5

Hey Kunal thx for the hint but I want to keep the original bootloader - there must be a way to sign the paket so you don't need to update the loader
it is not possible to root p3100 without flashing, odin, raising flash counter
as to root first you got to
1.flash cwm recovery and them root
2.directly flash root package
3.flash pre rooted firmware
everything offer flashing.
its like flashing firmware without using any odin mobile one or pc one
so
what's the big deal flash cf auto root and use triangle away to reset.
i wanted one too

well not that odin and then triangle away is bad, but i have to say it's unsafe and trying to get the drivers installed and working is a real pain.
I too rooted my friend's sgs2 with the same way as c-tec, and i must say that was the best experience of rooting ever. not even 10 seconds and its so easy and u dont lose ur warranty...
so I think that if there isn't one, there should be one....
well another way to not lose ur warranty and be rooted
there were some pre rooted stock roms(4.1.x) in the forum somewhere with wipe and no wipe option( for many countries), they could be flashed via odin.
that's the best way to avoid using triangle away and be rooted(at least what i could find).
then if u like custom roms then use rom manager to flash cwm and u r good to go for custom roms without actually increasing the flash counter.
Cheers
right...

Right a1shakes - that's my point - maybe I try that modyfied stock rom (later) ...
but I'm still impressed by that single file (for SGS2) - I also tried those On-Click Tools via ADB - but it seems that those exploits only work on 4.0.4 roms for the P3100.
I will get back to this post if I found another way

If you are flashing a pre-rooted official firmware with odin, it too increases the flash counter on the tablet.

Hi
Any news on this?
What about the file signed_root_p3100.zip anyone tried it?
Hey all, now with the recent 4.3 update that locked the bootloader, i'm afraid of accidentally updating if i ever have to odin. So i have (ics build) VRALF2 MD5, and a VRALEC.bootchain MD5 files. If i use them to odin back to stock, i would be on an ics build, and i would have to update to at least 4.1 to use the casual root method, but if i do update, i will jump to 4.3 and then get a locked bootloader. Where can i find the jellybean versions to odin with, that can get me out of a soft brick? Thanks

Are you already took the OTA update? meaning you're running 4.3 right now? if you do, you can't flash anything else except for stock 4.3 rom and with the option to root your 4.3 (you can not flash back to the older version or any custom rom/kernel) .On 4.3 the bootloader is locked and nothing you can do for now. There's safestrap method to get around the locked bootloader but I don't recommend it for now.
I never took the update, i rooted 4.1.2 and put cm10 on it, and cm11 now. Im just afraid if i ever have to odin i will have to dig deep to find a root method for the old ics build and im not sure if the latest cwm will even work with it. Either way, it just seems like a lot of work, when i could just odin back to jellybean, root, and rom. Thanks for the speedy reply

You can just flash a pre-rooted stock 4.1.2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178482
The link seems to be dead. I also have a bootchain file, which sounds like its needed for coming out of a soft brick according to this link It didnt seem like that download would of included that. However, im not sure if it is required.

Link is still good, you can directly download from here http://d-h.st/C2e
I'm sorry for the confusion, i'm not bricked right now, but if i ever am in the future, or something else, i want to be able to odin to a rootable version of touchwiz. Thanks for the link. The zip contains a file called "KIES_HOME_I535VRBMF1_1152558_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5" This can be flashed with odin through the pda slot? Sorry for bombarding you with questions, but i want to be confident i have a working solution if i ever need it. The link for unbricking shows to flash the root.66.TAR though the PDA slot, so i just want to make sure. It also says that the bootchains arent required. Also, is it fine that its a .md5 file? Thanks a ton, you have been so helpful.

Yes, just open Odin and pick PDA and browse to this file "KIES_HOME_I535VRBMF1_1152558_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5" the flash. This is 4.1.2 full factory firmware come with (bootloader,recovery,kernel,rom,radio..everything). Root66 is ICS 4.0 rom modded factory file and not include radio or recovery. In theory to recover you should use a full factory file.(KIES_HOME_I535VRBMF1_1152558_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5)
Thanks so much for all your help! Hopefully i wont need to do a odin restore, but if i do, now i'm prepared. Also, this thread could help someone in the future, which is nice. Again, thanks for all your help

For a full backup you need a custom recovery. If you can flash CWM or TWRP without rooting your phone, you're fine. If you have to root it, backup will be rooted, too. But you can "unroot" any phone with SuperSU

For Samsung phones you can just flash any stock firmware including recovery via ODIN. BUT keep in mind that All Samsung phones Galaxy S4 and newer have the crappy KNOX security integrated. So your warranty is gone once you flashed any custom rom.

They will. Your phone has a "KNOX" counter. Its 0x0 when you get your phone. Flashing anything custom like qwill set it to 0x1 and there is no way to revert it.
