Yesterday midnight i was talking to my girlfriend on my htc pico using handsfree and i noticed that a red colour light appeared from the light sensors present in the top right of pico when the screen turned off.. can anyone make it work as a notification light??
Well probably, but this is very, very low light, I can't see how would be visible during the day, its proximity sensor by the way. But in this area of thougts, some time ago, I stumbled on an app that made your buttons to glow as a notification, if you can search a bit to find it, maybe it will do the trick, later (5-6hours) when I go home I'll also try to find it if you can't, but give it a try.

Has anyone noticed that the HTC Sensation's screen continues to change it's brightness automatically (in a bad way) continuously? I will set it on auto brightness and if I open the camera or go outside and it's really bright, it will change from auto to full brightness and won't dim unless I alter the settings again.. Bug? It's annoying.. Is there a fix? If not we need to notify HTC for a required update.
This really should have been posted in the "General" section instead of here, maybe a mod can move it...
I have noticed this as well. What's a little more annoying is when it dims down it doesn't do it gradually like my HD2 did (and many other HTC devices). Instead it goes from bright to dim very abruptly and tends to jump back and forth often.
I actually haven't noticed this at all. Got my Sensation yesterday. I will keep my eye out for it now, but maybe it's a bug...

Does yours gradually get dim when the screen is about to turn off or does it adjust abruptly?
I agree, I was playing a movie on Netflix app and it looked great. Then whammo screen went dim and it looked to dark

Just checked, it abruptly dimmed, then turned off. Is that not normal?

Not that I'm aware of, my HD2 gradually gets dim which is nice. The last device I owned that did it this way was my HTC Blackstone (HD).
Pretty sure its a feature of the auto brightness. It adjusts to its surroundings. I uncheck mine and set the brightness level to where I want it so it doesn't do that.
Mine sometimes abruptly changes too. My MT4G was a LOT smoother with screen brightness changing. Yes it is annoying when it happens.
Mine dims as smooth as my girlfriends butt. But when i installed juicedefender it jumped instead. Had to activate screen dimming in troubleshooting for it to go smooth again. Also it doesn't go as low without juicedefender

there's a thread in the general forum discussing this. it has to do with the widget not knowing what to do on qHD. search for the thread there since I'm too lazy right now to find it & give you the link directly
Isnt Auto Brightness supposed to do just that? Automatically change the brightness? The thing is in a lot of custom roms it never works properly but that's how it should work. It uses the light sensor..In lower lights it will automatically dim, the lower the light, the lower the brightness will be. in brighter lights it increases the brightness so you can see the screen. So if you're inside and it's dim and step outside into the direct sunlight of course it will become brighter and it will seem like a drastic change because you just made a drastic light change. If you had made the change from being inside to outside and the light gradually got lighter the screen would still get brighter just not as quick
EDIT: opps nevermind. I misread the OP. I didnt see the part where he said the brightness wouldnt return. lol reading too many threads at once.. lol

I have three stock HTC Sensation 4G's in the family.
Initially, I thought my wife was messing with the settings which is why the Auto settings for 'display brightness' was constantly getting unchecked. I asked her about it and noticed that the same thing is happening on all three phones.
So looks like this is a bug on HTC's side. I am already peeved that it's 3+ months and there's no sign of 2.3.4 with Google Talk video yet.
When using the Desire S should the Home, Menu, Back and Search buttons be hilighted? Is there a setting to turn it on if there is one as my eyes are bad and I quite often hit the wrong button by mistake.

Depends on what ROM you're using. Not possible to tweak it if you're on a Stock ROM.
If you're on a custom ROM, then all ROMs with the RCMix tweaks have a feature to keep the button backlight on all the time.
Just go to Rcmix tweaks>Display Options>Backlight settings>Set to "Always On" and you're done.
Hope that solves your problem.
Hi just to update it seems it`s not possible to highlight the soft keys(that is the Home, Menu, Back and Search keys) They are automatic, triggered by the ambient light sensor and from my point of view this is very annoying.
As I am running the stock rom at the moment I am looking at the market to see if there are any apps that will solve this. If anyone knows of any that can do this can you let me know?
Thanks

Like I said... Not possible on stock ROM. In my knowledge... There is no app in the market that can let you do that... Least of all, without root.

Another update, just found an App called Screen Filter it`s primary function is to control screen brightness but is has an option to Enable soft-key backlight. Just the job for me

stick a tiny black "electricity tape" over the sensor...that`s what i did and now i have them permanently on....the sensor is located a little above and to the left of the name HTC at the top...you can test exactly where it is using your fingertip

Was making a phone call today and looked at my phone and I saw a little red beats audio icon light right next to the light sensor near the tmobile logo on top!
It lights up during calls for me! I thought it was the coolest thing haha. Maybe we can change the color on it or something.
i'm pretty sure that's just the light sensor..

either the light sensor or the proximity sensor.
No way man, that's beats!!! Theirs even one in the back in the cam lense! You have to keep the flash to always on. Look real close at the cam. Take a picture! But make sure you're really close. You might miss it.

I noticed that little red light today as well. It comes on when making a call with or without the headphones, I would guess it's proximity sensor as well.
Dude, its the proximity sensor. It has NOTHING to do with Beats...
I had to put a call on speaker a sec ago and I have to admit, the sensor does kinda resemble the beats logo when your in the dark

why? that would kill battery like crazy, not to mention it would heat up the led bulb to the touch.
Try light flow on the market. They have a lite version but you may have to be rooted. I don't have time to try it right now but should work. As for heating the led that's not even a concern.

Oh what I'd do for a multi-color LED like the original nexus
+1 for light flow. Go sms also lets you set the notification light. The HOX displays green orange and red.

Hi there!!
I don't know if this is a know thing anyway, on the right of the HTC logo there is the proximity sensor that shut down the display during a call. When it's on a you can see a red light from it. It should be turned on only during call. In the last days I have noted that the light remain always on even if I'm not doing a call. It turns off only if I taskiller all the process, but this stand only for 40 second as after this period of time the light reactivate itself again ( probably because some proces automatically restarts ) what can I do?? Is there somebody else who he's experiencing this too??

Do you have any apps for brightness management? I've experienced the same before and it was due to such app.
no..I use no app for that...
Have you tried to make another phone call and see if it switches off after hang up? Maybe in the last call it hasn't switched off for whatever reason/bug.
I noticed this, but after some digging I found out that Viber is causing this:

Good to see you've found the cause.
I also noticed this behaviour if you made a call and switched staight to loudspeaker without putting the phone to your ear. When the call was finished the sensor would remain active requiring a reboot of the phone to turn it off.
Seems to have been fixed with the 4.0.4 update
Same thing happened to me, except I don't have viber. Reboot fixed it.

I don't have viber and even after reboot, wipe cache/dalvic it still glows. HTC One S with Axiom ROM. this just started in the last week. I haven't downloaded any new apps though several have updated but I couldn't tell you which ones now. Trying to disable everything I can think of that would use the proximity sensor to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
This happens to me whenever I'm using bluetooth, but what works for me is this:
Download "Proximity Sensor Finder" from the play store, open it up and wave your hand over the proximity sensor. Close the program and the red light goes away. It's faster that doing a reboot. This works for me and hopefully it works for others as well.
My problem was related with a bug inside viber, the app has been updated and the sensor start working good again

This is what I used and haven't had a problem since.
you could also try to install taskiller and kill everything, if the sensor stop being on it's related to a process that keep it active if not it's probably and hardware issue
Since we're talking about the proximity sensor, it shouldn't stay on during a call when the screen is manually turned off. On the Galaxy Note II the sensor turns off.
