Qudstion about the s-pen - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I bought my Note 10.1 used and it came with the stylus. I read somewhere there are different tips. Can anyone tell me what those tips are for and can they be ordered from anywhere? I can only find replacement pens and none seem to have other tips.

The tips are black with a little white tip which are the soft tips. The others are white plastic. Inside my box I got a little bag containing replacements and a little tool to extract them.
The soft tips are the ones you want to use.

Case Mate Barely There!

Hi guys, I have recently fell in love with the case mate barely there metallic silver for the Galaxy S. However, I have a Galaxy S LCD and I know that case mate do a case for the i9000 and the i9003! Anybody know the difference? Also, when I was on amazon, it said that they have a newer model of the product but when i clicked on it, it looked exactly the same?
Any suggestions or help would be great! And if you have this case please comment on what you think about it Thanks
I used it for a few months and found that:
1. It made the gps worse.
2. It caused scratches on the bezel when you put it on or removed it. Which is ironic because it's supposed to protect the bezel.
But on the plus side, it made the phone feel a bit more solid and look nice without making it noticably bigger.

I think it is great! Protected my phone very well through a festival and loads of gigs, solid case. I have broken the little bit above where the gap for the volume rocker is, but that was kind of expect. In the upper right corner there is also a crack for me, I will try attaching some images for you now! I might just order another one!

Mystery Bag of Parts?

Just got the Note 10.1 and in the box was a small bag with some parts. What looked like S-Pen tips and a small metal ring. No reference to these in the manual and I couldn't find anything on XDA. Can anyone explain what these parts are for and how to use them? Also is there some instructions on these parts available from Sammy? (Note New User) Thanks!

These are indeed S-Pen tips and the metal ring (described in the docs) is to pull the tip out of the pen.

Okay thanks for your response. I must have missed the instructions in the docs for the spare parts!
"Mystery Bag of Parts?"
I got a chuckle out of this. That's exactly what I mentally called it, and just waited for someone to explain it.
Wait you mean that wasn't a bag of Korean nose pickers and a nipple ring? Damn my sister she is always pulling my leg!

The hard and soft tips are because some users like the feel of the soft tips on the screen and some like the hard ones. the soft ones to me make it closer to a paper and pen feel and the hard make it a more slippery type of feel. When to change I'd guess depends on how much they are used and personal preference as to when they don't feel right any more. I've had a Wacom tablet for a few years now and haven't needed to change the tip on my pen yet.

[Q] Help with case....

Hi
I might be considered crazy, but I am about to move from the HTC One to the Mini, as I find the One too large....
However, I am not keen on the white plastic moulding around the front of the phone. Has anyone found a thin case which ALSO covered this? Say a black one ideally. I have searched, and either cannot determine whether is is covered, or found that it isn't!
Thanks

Thanks, I did see that thread, but really looking for a case that is specifically thin and covers the white raised surround.
Cheers!

S5 styluses: Do you use it and what do you use?

Does anyone else here use the "Hidden" feature of the s5, where it can use various items as a stylus? If so what do you use? For example I have been using a #2 graphite pencil as a precise stylus with the snote app and it's pretty cool. I'm curious to find out if other XDA users use this feature because I just ditched my n3 after seeing and using it. Also as a side note I use the iloome flex and plastic body pens don't work. Metal body ones may scratch your screen protector because it might be a rough metal ball. I used a pencil after testing and they do not scratch the screen (it's graphite hardness of 1 ) so I scratched my screen protector avoid scratching yours if you are going to test. Mechanical pencils (metal body) of .9 thickness work but don't let the metal lead holder scratch your screen.
sweet drawings dude
I just got the Adonit Mini Jot in the mail a few days ago, I love it. Small, compact, only downside is the tip is so accurate it can snap off and be replaced and since its glass (see through) theyre hard to find. They do sell replacements though.

Have you tried a standard pencil with the s note app? I found that with the snote note app you can use any pencil or mostly metal object when it's in app. But if you turn on extra sensitivity you can use the metal objects / pencils anywhere in the ui. I find it intriguing that Samsung doesn't talk about this feature but it's amazing. In short if you want to use a pencil stylus anywhere in the phone turn on extra Sensitivity, but if you only want it for writing the s note app is free.

I used their stylus almost 2 years ago and a quick peek at their website recently shows they released a few new ones. Let me know what you think of the mini jot.
I completely agree. It may be my favorite S5 feature. I use a mini golf pencil and it works wonderfully. It is an amazing combination with the DraStic DS emulator.
I read about this when I first got the phone but wasn't sure about the pencil so I didn't even really try it.
Well, I just did...and holy crap. That works REALLY well. It struggles with my E's, T's and I's when writing but drawing is phenomenal.
Now I have a use for that mechanical pencil that's been sitting in my pen cup on my desk for years lol
Thanks OP
this is amazing.
now all I have to do is learn to draw

Glad you liked it
Just be a little wary of the lead holder tips. For example the zebra mechanical pencils as they can scratch the screen or screen protector. I have yet to find my co workers 1.1 mm thickness full metal mechanical pencil to use as a stylus.
Been messing around with a good, small solution and this is what I came up with. Bobby Pin + Butchered DS Stylus:
Plan to work on it a bit more to make a more elegant solution. Just make sure the blob at the bottom of the bobby pin fully covers the metal.
I use my Samsung C-Pen ... I have had it for years.

Do you still have a spare spen to test? I ask because I have a Ativ tab 7 with a spen and I was wondering if the nib was big enough to be recognized. I don't mean have a Wacom digitizer either, I just see others here are writing with pencils, so I was hoping it would be sensitive enough to recognize the nib of the spen too.

I got one from my note 10.1 and sadly no it doesn't register. I found the best to be a 1.1mm thickness mechanical pencil.

Well, that stinks. Thanks for checking for me.

Looking for a Samsung Galaxy s5 Case with a stylus holder attached!

I have been searching for 2 days now and could not find a simple case with stylus holder attached to it for the s5. Its crazy since most sellers would sell a particular case with a stylus pen ! if anyone knows of where to find such case please let me know where. I have checked both Amazon and Ebay but haven't found anything. I am looking for really any colour besides bright colours.
Thanks!
this may not be the most helpful post in xda history, but ive never seen one either and ive had my S5 for 28 mos either. Stuff like that may have been available during its heyday, but im sure manufacturers have the care-o-meter down quite a bit about this phone over the last 12 mos
How about a stylus that can be plugged into the headphone jack as a holder? On one end the stylus, the other end a plastic headphone-jack mold.
