Q : Stylus

As per title anyone know a good stylus that i can use with my touch for taking notes while in school>

Adonit Jot. Read about it on the Asus Transformer forum.

i tried my index finger but found it was defective so i returned it for a full refund (minus shipping and handling).

I bought a really cheap stylus on ebay, it wasn't worth the change.

I just posted this in the other thread. I purchased this one when it was a little over $10. It works very well. It has the same rubbery tip as others, however the aluminum body (full) give it some extra sensitivity I believe.

pretty much all of them have a rubber tip and metal sides. they use your own bodys capacitance.

they all should work the same then. Maybe we need to charge ourselves before use. Always have a cat handy and rub it's tommy for a while

I have one just like this, it works very well if a little squeaky. It's a bit heavy in the hand mind you, I think it's solid aluminium.

i live in asia and sometimes its not ideal to use a touchpad in a humid environment. i went accessory shopping today and found a 10 dollar stylus at the local store. it states it is made for ipads. i tested it and it works great on my touchpad. the size and weight is perfect. the pressure is perfect when working with the tablet. glad i didnt have to order from amazon and wait.

So about 7 months ago I bought a Boxwave for my nook color. I thought, "this is great, now I can take notes in my classes". When I got it and tried it, it sucked. As it turns out there didn't seem to be any styli which did anything on the nook color (from what I read). I just got that Boxwave and tried it on my touchpad...perfection. It is exactly what I was hoping for.. Now I need ICS to hurry up and get here so that I can use the ASUS supernote app (exactly what I have always imagined in a not taking app).

I've tried 3 or 4 different brands and didn't like any of them. Ranging from cheap ebay junk to 20+ dollar ones(best buy etc). I've not tried the Gomatic brand though, and they look interesting.
If it had a pen digitizer it would be so much nicer. No idea what type of technology would have been necessary to achieve that, but as it is, none of the dumb old stylus's have been nice enough for me to take notes with.

Stylus with a thin point?

Having trouble finding a stylus with a thin tip on it, all I can find are ones with the fat round tip. Trying to use a design program on tab and need precise selections with a stylus and the fat tips aren't cutting it.
Any input will be appreciated.

You might have a look at the Samsung stylus line; the tips appear to be smaller, though it might be their shape. The jot stylus uses a different type of nib altogether - worth ckecking out. And you might try an Amazon search for "brush stylus" and see what pops up. If, I'm not mistaken, capacitve styluses need to have big nibs to function properly. Mibs!

Take a look at the Adonit Jot. It has its own problems but it is the only capacitive stylus I have ever seen that doesn't use a fat, rubber tip. It is excellent for precise drawings.

Now just curious and I hope I'm not barging in on this but... Would a stylus with a thin point be better for use with screen protector? I have yet to find a stylus that claims it works fine with a screen protector
Let me edit this to be more clear: I'm trying to find a Stylus that works well with screen protectors. I have used a couple that my friends have but they all didn't work well. I want one that works well not crappy.

Already got the wacom stylus ,not good, tip is too fat. Saw video on jot, ordering on Amazon .

From what I have found, the only type of stylus that will work with our tabs is a fat one or one with a conductive foam that mimics the finger. The thin smaller ones, like ones used for wacom tablets, use a different type of screen response altogether like the one found in the galaxy note or older palm pilots for example.
As far as working with a screen protector, it requires significantly more pressure and closer to a 90 or perpandicular angle for my griffin stylus to get picked up. Without the protector it works pretty well at most angles. This is only from personal experience with an armorsuit screen protector and a griffin stylus. I'm sure different combinations would produce varying results, but most likely similar to the point of frustration.
If you are looking to legitimately draw and illustrate I'd suggest sticking with a wacom. That's my preference at least.

I own the Jot and have used it on an iPad and an Asus Transformer. I also own an HP TM2 with a digitizer and a Wacom stylus. No capacitive only screen will be as acurate as a tablet with an active digitizer, such as my HP or a Galaxy Note. If you only have a capacitive screen the Jot differs in that it uses a small metal point surrounded by a clear plastic disc instead of a rubber tip, so it is much more precise than other capacitive styluses. However, although I haven't had problems, some people have had issues with the disc wearing out or have claimed that the tip scratched their screen. Just to be safe I only use it on gadgets with Gorilla glass. To sum up, for precise drawings its the best I've found for a capacitive screen, but if you plan on doing serious work get yourself a unit with an active digitizer - if you use a capacitive only screen like the iPad or 7 plus you're basically using finger paints.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 book cover case review with wake and sleep mode

Im really liking the wake and sleep feature on the Galaxy Note 8. This is a nice feature found on the iPad Mini and the Kindle Fire HD tablets.

Got the book cover case and really like the sleep and wake feature of it

To anyone who picked one up, how does it feel in terms of bulk? Also, when the cover is folded over, does it lay flush with the spine or does the flap stick out?

It is very thin, as thin as my nexus 4, and feels like a father compared to my original xoom
the cover is just like the s3 flip cover but it snaps on the back instead of replacing the battery cover
and it triggers auto on and off like the ipad smart cover

Caved in and picked up the cover on the way home today. Some initial thoughts:
1) The case adds no real bulk to the device itself. The backplate and the screen flap are both super thin, so even when folded over, it's doable for someone like me who hates cases.
2) Because its all so thin, however, it does feel sorta cheap. If this suffers from the same build issues I've read the S3 version has, I don't have high hopes that it's going to last long.
3) The screen on/off thing is awesome. The sensor part of this is actually along the spine, not the edge of the flap. Not a complaint, just an observation.
4) When folded over, there is a bit of a "lip" around the spine. I can't say I love this, but it doesn't really impact the way I hold the device.
5) The "stand" feature is alright and seems stable enough as long as you use it in the single position it was designed for. I do with it had a few more angle options.
Verdict? Meh. It's not a bad case, and I don't intend to return mine, but had I been given the opportunity to play with one before, I don't think I would have spent the extra $50. At half that price, it wouldn't change my opinion, but I'd be far less disappointed.

I have the book cover for my 8.0 and it is not very heavy, acts like a stand and turns the Note on and off when I open and close it. Very convenient. Got mine on Amazon for $5.99. Thought I would give it a try for that amount . So far very happy with it.

The only one I see on Amazon for that price is the IVSO version. What I hate about those cases is how you actually have to put the tablet inside and wraps around the front. The official book cover simply snaps onto the back of the Note 8.

I bought that same cover and also bought a similar one:

They both look essentially the same and add about the same bulk.
Major difference is that the Moko cover has auto wake, soft inside material, hand holder, and the pen holder doesn't interfere with IR. But it reeks! I mean it smells so bad I couldn't keep it in the same room with me. I left it outside overnight and it is still off gassing.
The Dealgadget cover has no weird smell. But also no wake function, no softer inside material, no hand holder. The pen holder is in a better location except if you plan to use the IR function. It is on the side of the tablet and I found it interferes with the IR.
So I ended up ordering the Samsung cover from this site. Since its coming from Hong Kong it will probably take a couple of weeks to get it. But I can't justify spending $50 for a cover. (Even though I probably will have spent close to $50 before I find one I like).

When looking for some case reviews I stumbled over http://galaxynote8cases.com/ and they actually seem to have some good reviews. The only thing that is a real pain with the Note 8 is that it's tough to find any accessories for it.

I just got the white book case cover, its perfect for people who are careful with their electronics but like that extra layer to prevent scratches. Adds virtually zero weight.

Thats the big selling point for me here. The absolute lack of bulk on this is awesome. I only wish this had two more features:
1) A magnetic hold when the front flap is covering the screen.
2) Another magnetic hold for the flap when its folded over the back.

There is a slight hold on the front side, as to not make it appear flimsy. When you flip it around back it "gives" a bit easier to fit snugly. Hard to explain, but clearly well designed.

Where are people buying this case, i cant find it anywhere.

The Book Cover Case is available in the US at local Best Buy, Staples and Office Depot. The only color is white, but the other colors will be available shortly.

I have a stylus looks like that too , work perfectly with this screen , even a metal stick will work :v

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Galaxy C-Pen Stylus Pen works perfectly with the 8.4" Tab S. Though the product specs say it works only on S3, I tried it wit the Tab S and it just glided.
The pen looks premium with a metal body and a hard tip. The hard tip gives it a nice feel while writing as compared to the usual hollow rubber tips.

I can tell you do not get the Wacom Bamboo Fineline. Apparently in this case, when the box says it's for ipad, they mean it. It's bluetooth and it paired with the tablet, but even using one of the special apps that are made specially to work with wacom styli (Bamboo Paper), this didn't work any better than a $9 Targus slim 6mm. If you hold the pen exactly perpendicular, the tablet registers the point. If you hold the pen like a human being at an angle to the surface, the tablet registers a point 2 or 3 mm away from where the point touches the surface, in the direction that the pen leans. Garbage. So I have a Samsung C-pen coming in the mail from ebay. Probably the only time I'm glad I have relatives who own ipads. haha

No the S-pen does not work at all. Yes I tried, I have a note2 and note3. S-pen requires special digitizer hardware behind the screen.

ETCS10CSE Silver Spare C Pen Stylus ?
How has it been for you? Smooth? Accurate? Does it make any sound when gliding? leave any smudges, marks? Because going by the reviews on: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...&keywords=ETCS10CSE+Silver+Spare+C+Pen+Stylus
It has an equal amount of negative reviews of it saying pressing too hard or rubber tore off etc etc. So this can be completely unusable for some Samsung devices?

The thin tip does not allow for much give and also the tip does bend under slightest pressure. Thats why I prefer wider tip stylus. I have tested numerous pens, and the cheapest 1,- EUR thingies turned out to be as good as the most expensive ones, if not better. The Wacom Bamboo works nicely too, though it is a bit heavy for my likings.

I can't seem to find 'EUR' stylus, Wacom Bamboo I heard lots of negative reviews of it, its all mixed reviews actually lol.

High probability of losing the pen

After using the S6 over the weekend a few times, I'm almost sure I will lose the pen unless I buy a case that covers it. While I like the idea of how it sits on the back of the tablet slightly indented they should have made the magnet the whole pen instead of just the pointer area. Its not strong enough to hold it in place from an accidental hand bump etc.

I have the keyboard cover on order (arriving Friday). I'm being extra cautious with the pen until that arrives. It doesn't take much of a bump to knock it off.

I agree that the method of stowing the stylus this year is terrible. On the other hand, in previous years the stylus couldn't be stowed at all, so in that sense, it's an improvement.
The keyboard cover, on the other hand, is a big improvement on the design of previous years. With that, the stylus can be very safely transported.

Duct tape fixes everything. Or for a more permanent solution, a little JB Weld and your S-Pen isn't going anywhere. Ever.

So i got my tab yesterday, at first Ithought the attachment wasn't bad, but then after using for the day Ihave to say Itoo am very dissapointed in the spen attachment. This is nearly as dangerous as the oriignal apple pencil pluggin into the bottom port of the ipad to charge. Do the people that design these things actually try to use them?

The Note phones somehow have enough room to store the S-Pen inside. Why can't they find the room on a 10" tablet? I know the pen is thicker but I think most people would trade a slightly thinner pen for a way to securely store it.

If you're actively using the device but not the pen it'll also stick to the lower right side of the device in portrait mode. Not a great solution, but I find it easier to have it there and not accidently knock it off like when it's on the back. It doesn't charge in this location, but that shouldn't be an issue since this pen uses a battery with longer life then the capacitor style like the Note 9 was. Or I just toss it on the table/couch/whatever near me if I'm at home or work. Within reach when I want it, but not going to fall off when I absentmindedly grab the tablet in the wrong way.
I'm waiting on my keyboard cover to arrive and then I don't think it being on the back will be a big deal anymore. Kind of sucks that's where it has to go to charge because I liked my case for my S3 that held it to the left of the screen in the hinge of the screen cover part basically. Sucks they've never made a more permanent solution, and this is the first time it actually has a storage spot, but so long as the devices get thinner and thinner I don't see them putting it inside like on the Notes since they want the tablet pens to be more ergonomically friendly.

I lost my S-Pen early in. One solution was using an Otterbox. The Tab could be secured to the tablet cover/stand, face-up, so the pen is secured.
In the interim, I am using a spare pen from a Fujitsu Lifebook tablet.

Has anybody ever succeeded in buying a full-function replacement pen from Samsung? I tried to buy a spare one when I bought the Tab S6, but all I got was a glazed stare from the salesperson. Would be nice if Samsung at least tried to make up for the sucky magnet. ;-DeanoD
