[Q] iAnnotate & SPen - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I need to anotate a pdf file. It's a big file and SNote is not suitable (i.e., very long to import/export the file).
So I plan to use iAnnotate. My problem is I would like to activate only the SPen sensitivity (i.e., not my hand) like in SNote. Is there a way to do it?
Thank you by advance!

NEW: Manila E-Book Library Manager

Hi all.
I wrote an application that replaces the Library Manager that comes with the new Manila e-book reader tab (which is not of much use, if you don't have an account for Borders).
After installation, the application will start when you click the "Library" menu of the new reader tab.
You can use the application to access the books in your library, but also to import books you already have on your PDA into the new Manila tab.
It will import e-books in the .epub format, but also in lots of other formats.
The Manila tab will only show the ones in .epub format, but from this new library you can access the e-books in the other formats as well (at least, if the appropriate reader application is installed on your PDA).
This application assumes that each of your e-books is located in its own folder.
If an image file is located in a folder that contains an e-book, the application will automatically assume that the image represents the bookcover.
If an .opf file is located in the folder (which is a standard format for saving metadata with e-books), the application will automatically get the title, the name of the author and the name of the publisher of the e-book from that .opf file.
See the screenshots to get an idea of the look and feel of the application.
To install the application on your PDA, download the .cab file, copy it to your PDA and run it there.
Release history:
In version 0.3 the robustness was enhanced significantly.
In version 0.2 a number of small user-interface enhancements were made.
Thank you. Very useful program.
Thx...
How to add national fonts to Manila HTCReader ??
Thank you very much...
Your application works better, but i need to move to another tab then return to e-reader tab if i want to see the added books.
great little software.

Djurkash, does your ROM include the Manila e-book reader tab?
My application only works if the reader tab is available (and working).

Hi.
I just posted version 0.2; the flow through the user interface is more Manila-like now.
@OABsoftware, sure it does... like I said, it happens when hitting library button
tried to reinstall, but it's the same...is it possible that problem is caused cause I changed my book.db file through ebookindexer?
I'm really liking this app...I have a request however, is it possible to have this app work with the other native built-in e-book functions as well?
What is happening is even if you click on the 'Menu' > Shop or Account Settings, it is redirecting to your app. I would prefer if the app was launched only when you clicked on the 'Library' link. That way people who have Adobe & Borders accounts can still get books via those means also.
Thanks

does look to be that.. I had the same error and changed back to be the original and it works fine. import is great, even with all the books in one folder..
It also beats the 20 limit.. just added all the books from my sd card
need to go back to calibre and redo them to fit the new system
@fards,
I confirm this, have restored original book.db, and now is working flawlessly...

Question regarding PDF apps.

It seems I have tried all of the major PDF annotation apps and one thing seems odd to me. It seems that there isn't one where a tool you are using remains persistent.
For example if i want to use the highlighter, the moment I am done highlighting a section the highlighter tool turns off and i have to click it again to highlight another passage.
So if i am going through a textbook or article and want to highlight passages I am interested in I have to keep clicking the highlighter icon over and over again. Its hard to imagine the developers made it this way on purpose but they all seem to do this.
Am I missing something? Is there some way to make the highlighter tool remain on?
Thanks.

I think that's exactly how they're designed. The problem being, is that I don't think there are any Pdf apps designed to be used with the pen. For instance, lecture notes allows you to write with the pen and scroll with your finger. That's what we need in a PDF app. A Setting where a finger will not create an annotation-- but will work for scrolling and zooming-- and the pen will annotate but not scroll or zoom. Hopefully more apps will appear that are optimized for use with the pen.
Well we can import pdf files into Snote and mark them up there. You just dost habeas the typical markup tools.

Hi,
I use Lecture Notes to put notes onto pdf files.
First I cranked up the import quality in settings.
Go to notebook overview and import pdf as new pages.
Add another layer, that way markup can be added and deleted without deleting through the pdf.
For highlighting I use a yellow custom pen and adjust to fat with tweaked alpha and softness.
Hope this helps.

hey, that Kno textbook app that comes preloaded loads pdfs much faster than snote and the highlight tool remained persistent while flipping pages for me. You could give that a shot?
I figured out how to get the snaps into LN. Don't know why it wouldn't work last night.

The guide says I can import and you say S Note can import but there is no option to import on my Note 10.1 S Note. What am I missing?
When you first open the app hit the menu button then import.

I was just messing around with ezpdf and have just discovered that you can do the above! If you look at the annotation toolbar in ezpdf, you will notice that the same tool is highlighted twice e.g. the highlight text icon, the only difference being that there is a small "c" below the tool icon.
If you click on the highlight text that has the "c" on it, you can continue to highlight different parts of the text until you click the done arrow, this feature can be used with any of the tools that have the "c" shown on the tool. You can also customise the tool bar to show only the tools that you will be interested in.

With this forum and its members, the Galaxy Note tablet and the right apps and knowing how to use them and discovering new features, the Note 10.1 for me is on a daily basis becoming the ultimate productivity tool. So far, I have not been tempted by any other tablet which is extremely rare as I constantly update my devices. At home or at work, I can't put it down as there is something useful that the note can do better or more conveniently than my other devices.
Does anyone know if there is a way to do highlights on a PDF that is not OCR'd? EZpdf and Iannotate only allow the highlighter to be used on OCR'd documents.
I have a lot of scanned documents that have handwritten notes, and I'd like to be able to highlight those things. Essentially it would be like drawing ontop of the PDF with the highlighter tool, much like the pen tool.

In ezpdf, you can use the freehand tool and go into its options, choose the colour you want to highlight in and then make the opacity lower and choose the pen size. This will allow you to highlight none OCR'ed documents.
Can anyone recommend a PDF app that I can use on Android to delete individual PDF pages(not PDF files, and individual pages within a PDF)

LectureNotes - S-Pen App with fast dev. speed

Hi,
I would like to ask if a new not yet perfect feature is working also on the gnote10.1.
Its the scroll by hoovering with button pressed.
In Setting-Input the two last options have to be enabled for it.
If you like it or have other ideas for it maybe we can collect them here to show them to the developer.
My idea would be to have the scrolling option without showing the hoovering dot and
having a sense for "flinging" then pen, so with more speed you scroll more pages....
Regards
Splotz
considering that the tab has a hover indicator built in, which is a small grey dot, i would prefer to be able to scroll without the lecture notes hover icon as well.
also, does anyone else have issues with odd strokes coming up less than straight(like a squiggly lightning bolt).
I posted to your question in the other thread.

I am experiencing the same thing when I am drawing. Is it a software thing ? Or is the screen bad .? Maybe a warranty issue ???
l don't think so. It's more a hardware issue but, probably not repairable. Just check this thread out:

Looks like if the tip gets not quick enough to his "zero" position sometimes..
Did you try to change the tip or to see if something is bend or stuck so ?
Yes, tried all hardware variations including another penabled pen. I think it is a mixture of hardware and software possibly.
I received a couple of reports concerning strange `squiggled´ lines when using LectureNotes on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 devices. So far, only this device seems effected. It is not clear what is causing this problem, but I agree with ratindahat that it is probably a mixture of hardware and software.
I just uploaded v1.16.8 into Google Play in which there is a second input `filter´, namely to optionally discard coordinates `between´ input events sent by the Android system (which are called `historical input events´ in Android terms). In the filter input settings dialog, this is the first option, as this `filter´ is applied first, and the Ramer-Douglas-Peucker filter that is available since v1.16.3 is the second option, as this filter is applied second. Actually, these `historical´ events *should* be used, and not using them rather elaborates on the symptoms and does not solve the underlying problem, but I received some positive feedback from Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 users so that you might wish to try this new `filter´.
I will try to get a hand on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 device to investigate this further (and hopefully find a work-around concerning the stylus button, too).
Migrating from S-Note to LectureNotes
As others in this thread I prefer LectureNotes to S-Note.
However, I've discovered LectureNotes just recently and in the meantime I have created several notes in S-Note.
What is the best way to migrate all my notes from S-Note to LectureNotes?
Export as a pdf then import pdf?
I tried that but then I have to go note by note.
Is there a way to export/import in bulk?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda app-developers app
@linattuale: I do not know about the export side, but you can import all pages of a PDF file at once in LectureNotes. If you wish to do more than that, you will have to create a ZIP archive similar to the one that LectureNotes creates upon backup the notebooks board or when sharing a folder, and import this ZIP archive. This is not particularly complicated, but it requires that you convert your PDF files to a set of PNG files and ZIP them together in the right fashion, which is probably better done outside the Android world in batch-style.

You have to go to "Notebook overview", where you can select "Import PDF as new pages".
@Nefariouss: As linattuale wrote, you can do that in notebook overview, the resolution and margins can be adjusted in the app's import settings.

Awesome Note shouldn't be includedhere, it doesn't even have native handwriting recognition.
Papyrus is very good to me, just easy to use , quick UI, with S-pen support, finger eraser, and even multi-window support.
notes mobile has flaws, but the recognition is the best I've used.
I prefer Evernote for general notes taking and Skitch for annotations. I'll use S-Note if I want to use the pen for hand writen notes or drawing, and export to Evernote if it's something I want to sync to other devices.
Quil'is UI is too chunky, like trying to use a WIMP app, where as S-Note is uber-optimized for using the S-Pen. Sometime I'll try Papryus again or Lecture Notes but honestly, I've little need to since S-Note works beautifully.

Syncing s-note to evernote is a PITA. In snote settings under accounts you will see evernote as an option if you have the app installed but AFAICT this sync doesn't work as one would expect, So, I personally prefer to just do my note writing directly in Euernote even though templates are not an option. If you want You can export/share an snote as a pdf to evernote but it isn't an automatic sync.

You have to use the Share via or Export menu options (open note -> hit menu key; or long touch on a note (share via only)). On the main menu of S-Note you can also Import and Export.
Attempting to import or export will ask a format and for a source: My Files (their file manager), Google Docs, Evernote. It makes a Notebook and stack called Samsung_S_Note. At least for the S-Note/S-Memo formats (.snb) you can't even open the file in Evernote web and the app sees it as an attachment (${note name}.snb). I haven't experimented with PDF/Image export/import yet.
Really I think the best sync is probably the Samsung account, and a periodic export to somewhere else so that you have a backup in case Samsung screws up and clobbers your data.
---------- Post added at 10:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 AM ----------
Interestingly image file export results in just saving it to shared storage (e.g. /sdcard). Exporting as .snb and sending it up to Evernote, when I download it (after finally getting the web client to load the note files), I see a file path for a PNG file if I open it in vim, asking the Linux file utility it claims it is an OOXML file! As in what Microsoft Office 2007+ uses. Using the unzip utility:
Code:
$ file Download/King\ Foo\ sword\ and\ shield.snb
Download/King Foo sword and shield.snb: Microsoft OOXML
$ unzip -l Download/King\ Foo\ sword\ and\ shield.snb
Archive: /home/terry/Download/King Foo sword and shield.snb

my favorite note taking apps and how I string them toether.
HI, I already posted this to one of the forums about whether or note to get a note 8. I thought it could be of help here since note taking apps are the title. Most forums list usefull apps but here is how I string up all my usefull apps together for actual note taking...
I've been using the note 8 for a while now and if what you want is work and note taking...it's just perfect: here's my set up for note taking:
1) With multiwindow on...
2) EVERNOTE on the left panel (window). --yep EVERNOTE supports MULTIWINDOW hurray!!!!
3) Lecture notes on the right panel(window)
4) Audio Master Floating....floating around.
I know evernote has skitch but switching between this and the main app loses valuable time when you're taking down notes. it's much easier to jot down text on evernote and scribble into lecture notes (side by side)...then if you're done with the lecture, you can just export the entire lecture note scribble onto evernote and everything get's synchronized...plus if you don't wanna export to evernote...that's fine too since images are really a lot of data to upload.
I know evernote also has a built in recording function but again switching between that and the actual text app again loses valuable time, Audiomaster floating is fast, pumps up the voice recording volume (if the speaker is far) and you can save the audio under various formats...and it can record while you write....I know lecture notes has an audiorecorder as well but as I said, it's much faster to have all three options available instantaneously while taking down notes and that's all made possible by...the note 8.
final APPS:
5) ES file explorer, camera ace on your android phone and FOLDER SYNCLITE:
--SET up es file explorer as an FTP server on your phone or tablet and assign a folder to store all your lecture pics (to be taken for a particular lecture) using camera ace on your phone. Then set up folder sync lite to synchronize those folders between the note 8 and you're android phone...voilia...no more flailing around the large note 8 to take pictures,,,you can take pics with your camera phone (less bothersome) and synchronize it striaght to your note 8 to annotate powerpoint slides captured directly from the phone but edited more efficiently on the larger screen of the note 8 (no internet requiring drop box or other cloud storage service required). This one I haven't had the chance to do yet...But I believe it is possible...
I know all these individual apps are already available on other devices...but none of these even come close to the sheer..."multitasking behemoth" that is the note 8. Actually, the "behemoth" would be the note 10 (which is also great for that size category) so this would make the note 8 the porsche....really easy to slip into a large enough coat pocket (side pockets of course)....."
The rest of my original post, I removed cuz it was more about the note 8 as a gadget....this part was for the note taking apps.
Thanks for the heads up on Audio Master Floating.

I think the built-in Polaris Office with is the annotation feature is even better than the Lecture Notes app.
I use it to take add notes directly to the PowerPoint or sometimes I open a blank word worksheet in Polaris to take handwritten and/or text notes.
A great app for annotating PDF's is EzPDFReader.

[Q] How to delete S-Note templates?

Is there any way to delete the installed S-Note templates?
I NEVER use any of the templates, only the basic S-Note. But, whenever I touch the + sign, all of these templates pop up when I would like it to just go directly to a blank note.
I've tried searching for the templates in the OS but haven't been able to find them.
I'm using a Galaxy 10.1 2013 model running stock OS.
Thanks in advance.
