Hi, just a quicky...
Ive been wanting to start mwking some notes, and usually id use evernote... but preferably id like to be able to use white text on a black background (which evernote cant do).
In fact no apps seem capable of this. However I did wonder if it was possible to get an "inverted" version of google drive? I only ask as im on redemption rom, which includes a couple other inverted google apps.. or an inverted evernote maybe, if such a thing is possible.
I have seen on other forums links to old versions of google drive, couldnt find anything current though unfortunately... thought id ask around on here for help
Ps. I did try and use the "negative colours" option... which works on the background and text but also makes the keyboard unbearable and other parts of the UI annoyingly-coloured...
Thanks for any help

Sv: Inverted Google Drive.. or evernote?
There's two way of solving this. The first is to use SNote with a black background, no problems really (to make a black background, search the web or creating a picture that's all black and use that as background). The second way is to get a decent note app like LectureNotes where you can select "enable blackboard mode") under handling to get exactly what you want. You can also use black background and create white custom pens, that might be easier if you like to have some regular notes as well.
The third way is to check among the widgets after "negative colors" (stock widget), this widget does just what it says and you can use any program since everything white turns black and the other way around.
Hope this helped!

I already tried the "negative colours" stock widget... but the negative colours doesnt just turn black-white and white-black... it also converts all the other colours on the screen, which makes the keyboard a wierd bright yellow colour and the menus ... well, just annoying. more distracting than leaving things default!
I didn't consider trying SNote and making a black background, it would be a good idea in theory as I already have SNote... but I needed the ability to save my notes in the cloud, so that I can access them from the laptop easily (hence my usual program being evernote, I have a lot of notes on there. Just a shame the evernote android app doesnt support theming or blackboard).
.....
Ok well I just doeble checked this, and it turns out SNote has the ability to sync to evernote directly.... Im not sure how I managed to miss that, it was certainly kept pretty quiet lol. Seems it will synch to google docs as well, which is less surprising.
Seeing as I already have lots of evernote notes, I may try that first and see what happens.

In LectureNotes you have the ability to select where to save the notebooks, I'm not sure if Dropbox for Android is working like the PC version where Dropbox is keeping track of everything stored in a specific folder though. You can also backup to Dropbox, however I'm not sure if that's a one time backup or some continuous operation. I think you can select how often it should do this backup, but it's not that "everything, everywhere" experience I assume you're looking for.

Yeh, both lecturenotes and SNote allow for exporting to evernote or dropbox...
but lecturenotes only does it as non-editable .png images. Which is just useless, makes me wonder why people like this app so much :/
SNote does allow for exporting as text, which is at least a start. BUT you cant then import them back.
Seems like I'm stuck with using evernote. Its a good program, just a shame about the lack of customisation.

Entire app widget, a lot of you will be confused what im talking about and to be ohnest so am i lol. What i am after is something unique that would make life a whole lot easier for me and imo for others, this type of setup may be around but most likely isn't and a possible reason for why.
What i am after is something that can make a whole entire app run as a widget on one of the many screens for the desktop, so what i mean is when you flick through the screens on the desktop you have all you many cool widgets there that are easy to use and accessable but what im wanting is something that will allow a entire program to fit on the desktop so you can easily flick through from one program to another like facebook and then flick to another screen that has possible another program such as emails or messages. Without having to exit the app and then go to the app launcher and then select the program vice versa.
This would be in my way the best way to flick between programs and would be something i would pay for if it were possible, i understand the conflict with the screen transition when swiping between programs thats why you would probably need to use a swipe bar or just touch the screen indicator at the bottom.
Any way any insight or information would be appreciated go hard people.
***Offer for devs*** if you can develop something like this i am willing to pay $200 for contribution to its construction.
for the most part, it really depends on the app, how much resources it uses, and what kind of ui/gfx are standard use for it...i know exactly what youre asking for, ive wanted it myself, but it all comes down to mem/cpu usage, and if its a significant drain on battery when its constantly on...
there different kernels come into play, and if you are using ocdaemons or the like, with restrictive processing speed when the screen is off, could freeze your fone...
lots of challenges with this request, but like i said, depending on the app, someon might be interested
Yea its just really annoying for me not having something where selected apps can run in a foreground like windows in PC, having apps run in the background is a bit disturbing as i am one to like to know what my system is doing and have more control over the enviroment.
Iv just looked for things like app switcher which is the closest thing iv found yet for it but nothing close to what i am really looking for.

I.ve been dreaming of TABS for ages. I mean all the programs running in the foreground would be like tabs in Google Chrome, how cool would be that.
Regarding PC, there are many more processes running in the BG than in foreground, so analogy doesn't work here.

I just got an idea. How about a tab-based app switcher instead of a notification bar? I know it's unrelated, but awesome
¤Violets are red,
Roses are blue,
Wait, what?¤
Yup, exactly what i meant. And it could be done, as third party apps can use notification bar. Basically it would be a task manager which would place a tab (icon which looks like tab) for every foreground process. I'd buy it.

agreed would make life so much easier .
What I am envisioning is using an actual home screen as a messaging app, for example I would just slide over to a fully featured messaging app without having to click on an icon. I have seen lots of widgets and the like that just sit on the "desktop" but most are rather limited in functionality. I dont want to just display messages in a widget. Ideally, just sliding over would seamlessly and literally slide right in to the native messaging app. Anybody know anything that would allow this? Or does something like this even exist? Im assuming this is probably going to be more than just an app, and something that would have to be built into the launcher itself. I have been browsing the android market for something, but maybe I am just not looking hard enough?
there are lots of SMS / IM / email widgets that you can put in your home screen
for you to directly type into it and send from it, without launching the actual app
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Ive found a couple that do everything in a widget, Pure Messaging Widget probably being the closest to what I am looking for. But there a lot of wasted realestate on the screen, just looking for something that uses the full screen like a regular standalone messaging app. I dont know, maybe Im just being picky and pedantic. Lol, if there are any other suggestions that you have that I may not have seen yet please do tell. Thanks for the quick response.
Have you tried LauncherPro yet? I believe it has a Messaging widget that's pretty good. It may not be the full screen appearance you are looking for but there are lot's of themes around to alter it to your taste.
Somebody correct me if i'm wrong.
Hello, might be a strange question, as Kindle Fire is electronic ebook reader itself
But as we all know, we play it, we root it, we have this beauty called ICS CM9 and Kernel 3 with master Hashcode.
But now I have strange problem. I DO NO KNOW a good ebook reader app on the market. I'm missing the reading experience which I got from original Kindle Fire rom/software.
I tried Mantano reader - UI is just horrible. The text is stoo small to read(UI), it works slow and so on..
I tried google books - same crap, cannot use dictionary, what about highliting??.
I tried Kindle App - which I think is the best for reading books, and I found out that it is not scaled properly.
Any solution for scaling problem?
Or maybe some suggestions of nice ebook apps or advices how and what you guys use/do ?
Thank you very much

Thank you guys for suggestions, I will try it!
But do all of you have scaling problems with Kindle App ? Because it fells like it is not a full screen.
Also I tried Aldiko ( I heard it is the best ). For me it i the worst. The most laggy app I've ever experienced. Unusable on Kindle unfortunately
Don't think I'm picky or smth. I just hate an idea that there are no simple apps as ebook reader..or at least it's hard to find.

Thanks for the tip, handles pdfs very well.
Aldiko is great, but for some strange reason it identifices a 7" tablet as our KF as a phone instead of a tablet. If they could get that fixed they would be kings of tablets again as well as they are of phones.

My only gripe is that the UI text is a bit small.
I use Aldiko and have never had any issues with it like those that are being described here. Its very smooth on my device. Mine is overclocked, though.

OP is on CM9 with the 3.0 kernel so that means he is (99% sure) overclocked too.
Ironically, I like the B&N Nook reader the best - IMHO the best legibility of fonts, spacing and scaling controls, and better/more intuitive/easier to use highlighting and commenting tools.
Have you tried Kobo Reader? It's my favorite!

gandoe , I never actually see the NOOK app! I did a research and found that it is somehow restricted in my country - I can't download it via market.
Can someone upload this app please! link here http://www.appbrain.com/app/nook-for-android-by-b-n/bn.ereader
Here is what I found:
*Kobo app is working pretty flawless and smooth ! Best app so far I've used ( I dunno about the NOOK one though..) big thanx to milanche
*Kindle App is smooth as well, but it just doesn't completely full screen on my Kindle Fire.
*Aldiko for me is annoyingly laggy app, especially when zooming, scrolling pages etc..
*Mantano Reader is nice a well BUT UI text is way too small and it just doesn't feel nice as an app ( just my opinion)
So can someone upload NOOK for android apk ?
THANK YOU!
P.S. Yes I tried to use Market Enabler to fake my country, but it do not allow me to install.....
You have the app brain link there. Why can't you download it?
Edit :
Here is a link for download.

It is pretty the best app now, even comparing with Kobo.

I use Aldiko and I love it. I have my background as tan and letters as brown and its quite easy on the eyes. Night setting is just the reverse brown/tan.
People talking about font being too small on some readers, isn't that customizable? I've only tried aldiko and kindle, an I was very unsatisfied with the kindle app. Alot of my book covers in the row were very small while some big and I couldn't find a fix so that killed it for me.
I do wish tho that the bookshelf in aldiko was resizeable. I like big book thumbnails.

I agree, but I use Aldiko only for free books, because I have 2 kindle devices so I need to use the stock kindle app to sync everything. But Aldiko does have small book covers and very basic page turn animation, but it still is pretty good
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
I don't know why but Aldiko when you turn pages of the ebook it delays for 1 sec or so. I particularly don't like that, and the book shelf has small thumbnails as mentioned. I'm playing with Kobo and NOOK apps now. I think NOOK is the best right now. Big thumbnails of books, quickly loads the books, nice animations on turning pages, and it's smooth when you turn pages. Easy highlight, notes selection tools. And you can adjust everything from font size to margins to font itself. So it's pretty cool app now for reading I think.
Kobo would be great as well, as I like the design of the app more. But it loads books slowly somehow. Even between chapter it takes some time to load book up. Selecting text and highliting is annoying though...
So I stick with NOOK now and probably Kindle app sometimes.
Aldiko would be great if they would fix small thumbnails of bookshelf, and if they would remove that scrolling the page delays...
Cool Reader is by far the best non stock kindle reading app. Because I was on stock for months before I switched to ICS, my entire library was MOBI format. SO I didn't have to convert them to another format. Cool Reader also has a ton of features, a lot more than the stock reader app or any of the other ones.

I bought the app some time before, there is NO settings in this app, palm recognition doesnt work so good, Spen not so sensitive as on other and original Spen apps....
but the app is very nice hopefully when crerator of the app is reading this and will react. I will come later on again to this app when there will be upgrade.
I tried alllll of the Spen apps, still the original Snote one is the best one - although i really like in Papyrus ability to choose paper format (A4, infinity, letter.....) very handy when you want to print out your sketch, but in papyrus miss adding pictures.

Hey just so you know Memo by Nathan Garside is really similar to papyrus but has ability to add pictures.
Only grudge I have towards it is that at a somewhat low DPI the rules are far too close... but that's what we have PA for I guess

I know MEMO - also nice, hopefully it will improove....but from all apps i have tried, everyone gave me a FC in some case but Snote/Smemo - never FC!!! Thats the reason to stay on stock rom for someone who wants to use NOTEs Spen features. Papyrus looks to be kinda strong, this never FCd for me, but ability to add pictures is really needed! Imagine, i also sometimes make a notes, add picture and want to print out as A4 on normal printer -- all other apps can do print, export to PDF etc... but it is horrible scaled up, i know you can lower your font and pics, but it is for me more natural to work direct on format A4 and know how it will look like when i print out or export to PDF.
I moved this week from stock to other custom JB rom, just to change for some time, so will test again some Spen market apps. But when official JB will roll out, will definitelly go back to stock based roms.
But this HandyNote need some small tweaks, and looks to be good replacement...
You should try 'float note ' it's. On this thread . One of us made it and its great. It opens up and floats over the scren. You can move it ,resize. It's basic ,but great . The Guy's done a great job . Its not in the shop ,just on this thread.

I love the material design messenger app, but the randomly assigned colors piss me off. Is there a modded apk or any way to set customize the background color? I would have thought google would have made in an option.
The only way you're going to be able to mod that is by decompiling the messenger apk and going from there. Seems like it would be a lot of work though. I could take a look it at but I doubt I have the know how in order to do it.

Crappy Half-Solution
I've been watching this thread hoping for a more elegant (i.e. code-based solution) but for the time being I found a sort-of work around. First, uninstall the messenger app. Then say you want to change Person A from showing up orange to showing up purple, just for the sake of example. Google image search purple screen (or whatever, the point is to get a plain purple image of a shade similar to the app's). Download the pic to your phone, change the contact's picture to the plain color picture. Reinstall app, and open it up. Person A's conversation should now be purple. It should even be safe to change the contact's picture back, the point is to have the plain color photo as the contact picture when you install and first open up the app. You should be able to change as many contacts to whichever conversation colors (that the app comes preloaded with) you wish. Some notes: I did this on an AT&T galaxy s 4 active running kit kat 4.4.2 with the google messenger app being used as default sms app. My motivation was my gf saw her's was the orange and wanted to figure out a way to switch it to pink, lol. When I figured this method out to do just that, I changed a friend's convo color from green to red, and then an additional friend's from purple to green in order to verify. Again maybe this doesn't work all the time, or maybe it doesn't work on your device or maybe it's too much of a chore, but if you're looking to change conversation colors in this (otherwise very well put-together) app, this is the only way I've heard of so far. Hope this helps :good:
I don't know if it matters but I'm rooted stuck on touchwiz (locked bootloaders are a terrible thing, but at least it's de-odexed and I can mod it myself) and I use root browser to convert the google messenger app to a system app, because I like it better than Samsung's sms anyway.
