I bought the app some time before, there is NO settings in this app, palm recognition doesnt work so good, Spen not so sensitive as on other and original Spen apps....
but the app is very nice hopefully when crerator of the app is reading this and will react. I will come later on again to this app when there will be upgrade.
I tried alllll of the Spen apps, still the original Snote one is the best one - although i really like in Papyrus ability to choose paper format (A4, infinity, letter.....) very handy when you want to print out your sketch, but in papyrus miss adding pictures.

Hey just so you know Memo by Nathan Garside is really similar to papyrus but has ability to add pictures.
Only grudge I have towards it is that at a somewhat low DPI the rules are far too close... but that's what we have PA for I guess

I know MEMO - also nice, hopefully it will improove....but from all apps i have tried, everyone gave me a FC in some case but Snote/Smemo - never FC!!! Thats the reason to stay on stock rom for someone who wants to use NOTEs Spen features. Papyrus looks to be kinda strong, this never FCd for me, but ability to add pictures is really needed! Imagine, i also sometimes make a notes, add picture and want to print out as A4 on normal printer -- all other apps can do print, export to PDF etc... but it is horrible scaled up, i know you can lower your font and pics, but it is for me more natural to work direct on format A4 and know how it will look like when i print out or export to PDF.
I moved this week from stock to other custom JB rom, just to change for some time, so will test again some Spen market apps. But when official JB will roll out, will definitelly go back to stock based roms.
But this HandyNote need some small tweaks, and looks to be good replacement...

You should try 'float note ' it's. On this thread . One of us made it and its great. It opens up and floats over the scren. You can move it ,resize. It's basic ,but great . The Guy's done a great job . Its not in the shop ,just on this thread.

Tried them all, Samsung got there memo suite pretty much spot on, and is integrated thought the ROM, shame you can't use the complete suite on cm based roms, guess this is where memo apps like these are required.

S memo and s note are the apps i use for my regular purpose and even for drawing. No other app in the whole play store match it.
I am using the stock roms just because of these apps.

BEST APPS FOR XPERIA X10i

Let's have this thread to discuss in brief and detail about all the best possible apps we can have in our Xperia X10i.
True, we have been installing and uninstalling very many apps as devs keeps developing lots and lots of apps. True, we will soon beat iPhone store.
Coming to our subject:
I have purchased Smart Keyboard Pro based on review. Recently, I was going through the Better Keyboard reviews too. Lot's of people have installed Better Keyboard (16.5K rating), while Smart Keyboard Pro is only 7K ratings. Should I go for BK or retain with SK? Please advice. Does BK has the featur of suggesting sentences as Xperia 1.6 keyboard had earlier? (where the previously used words automatically pops up while texting). I loved it, and now after 2.1 it's gone. SK doesn't have this. Does BK have it? Anyone having BK with this feature? Please comment.
Recently I have come across another app named "Button Savior".
This is an wonderful app. I have installed in my Xperia X10i and it's awesome. The only thing I need is, that app should float below or top and not on left or right. It's little nuisance to see it on right. Besides, the icons should be customizable. Any idea, how to get these fixed.
I literally want to stop using the hard keys and go for such soft keys. Please let me know your thoughts.

Anyone recommend me a good web browser?
One that loads web pages fast,
has Pinch zoom,
long-press copy/paste,
flash support
and preferably one that doesn't have a UI that takes up a lot of space. I like to have my status bar up top and still have a large area to view webpages.
I've been using Dolphin but the UI is too overdone and large.
best browser imo is Skyfire

[App] Quill - handwritten notes (ICS only)

Handwriting note-taking app for Android
I just added support for the Galaxy Note pen to Quill, so you can write without having to worry about your hand touching the screen. I have tested it with Chainfire's ICS repack and !TeamRocketRom v1.5. If you decide to give it a try and it doesn't work on your ROM please let me know!
Quill requires ICS or Honeycomb, so if you haven't upgraded your Galaxy Note from Gingerbread it will not work!
A key design goal is quick response to pen strokes and 100% vector graphics. Developed on a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet.
Features
Active pen (digitizer) support on ThinkPad Tablet, HTC Jetstream, HTC Flyer, and Galaxy Note.
Very fast response to pen strokes.
"Fountain pen" mode supports pen pressure data, more pressure = thicker line.
Pinch-to-zoom.
Double-finger tap to zoom.
Two-finger move gesture.
Pen strokes are vector art, zoom does not pixelate your writing.
"Pen only" mode (optional) disables touch input while writing.
Android 3.x hardware accelerated graphics.
Open source (GPL), so your notes are not stuck in an opaque file format.
PDF export (save to SD card, Evernote, Share).
PNG (raster image) export.
Can backup/restore your data.
Ruled/Quad background paper
Tagging for pages so you can group them together.
Switch between multiple notebooks.
Undo/redo.
The n-trig active pen has been tested on the ThinkPad Tablet, HTC Jetstream, and the HTC Flyer (Honeycomb). The Samsung S-pen has been tested on the Galaxy Note. The basic functionality should work on any Android tablet, but distinguishing pen from finger data and pressure sensitivity might not work on others. Please let me know your results if you try it on another tablet. See also the supported devices wiki.
You can also get the app for free (as in free speech) at http://code.google.com/p/android-quill. Also available on the Android Market.

ICS 4.0 override
Hi! I couldn't get the ICS 4.0 stylus detection override to work on galaxy note (chainfire ICS repack). Without it all touch events write on the screen
Anywa, just a heads up. I'm sure it'll get fixed. Great app!!

Me neither - Samsung doesn't set SOURCE_STYLUS on pen events. This is a major bug imho, and hopefully it'll be fixed in the release. But Quill v9.3 adds special support for the Galaxy Note so you don't have to use the ICS stylus detection
Thanks for the offer of your app Quill. I tried to d/l from your website, both directly to Note and d/l to PC, then transfer to Note's ext. sd card.
In both cases, when trying to install, I got an error that said Unable to Parse Package. I don't know what that means, but it won't install. My Note is rooted and running franco.kernel v9.
Thanks.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, Quill requires Android v3+ (Ice Cream Sandwich on Honeycomb). I assume you are still on Gingerbread, right? I've edited the first post to avoid confusion.

Sorry, my ignorance! I saw you had tested on ICS and took that to mean it works on ICS in addition to Stock GB. I look forward to trying this when Samsung releases ICS update for the Note.

Nice App, so far best App for Handwriting I tried.
Unfortunaly Force Close when I try to open Settings ...
Samsung Note, iMilka V6.
GREAT accuracy! it's even better than S-note (which is odd)... add a few backgrounds (different pieces of paper) and it's awesome!
Thanks a LOT!
i bought from market immediately to show support.
However, single tap zoom didn't work very well in midnote 2.0.
I m sure it will get fixed. great app tho.
anyway, anyone know how to customize the layout.
the icon seems moving arround
Touch-rejection doesn't quite work for me. Touch events don't draw, but they do interupt the pen and stop the pen being able to draw... which I guess (hope) is unintended functionality.
ROM as of this post: ICS Stunner Beta 3.
Gret app! Thanks guy!
The app is very smooth and fast. But... not enough easy to use.
Do you plan a desktop widget for this app? such as S memo?

Me too. The Problem with FC in Settings I mentioned earlier was a general Fault in iMilka V6, so it's not Quill-specific.
2 bugs
There are a couple of weird bugs in the latest version (chainfire ICS repack):
1) The "draw box" box is all the time in the middle of the screen in portrait mode and doesn't go away
2) The boxes can't be erased (at least I couldn't erase them)
anyway, I'm glad to see it's getting updated this fast!
Awesome work! Loving it, perfect for not samsung based roms.
Anone make a video of the app on ICS? i want to compare it to the spen apps
thank you
quick video...no judging

Thats not right, of course. It seems that the subsequent touch isn't reported as multitouch (MotionEvent.ACTION_POINTER) but starts a new single-touch (MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN). This is bad!
It seems that all AOSP-based ICS builds have this issue. Or can anybody report success with an AOSP-based ICS build? My guess would be that Samsung added some workaround in their ICS build for Wacom driver bugs. Fun fact: the leaked Samsung rom doesn't properly report SOURCE_STYLUS as per the ICS stylus api.

Best e-book reader app for Kindle Fire?

Hello, might be a strange question, as Kindle Fire is electronic ebook reader itself
But as we all know, we play it, we root it, we have this beauty called ICS CM9 and Kernel 3 with master Hashcode.
But now I have strange problem. I DO NO KNOW a good ebook reader app on the market. I'm missing the reading experience which I got from original Kindle Fire rom/software.
I tried Mantano reader - UI is just horrible. The text is stoo small to read(UI), it works slow and so on..
I tried google books - same crap, cannot use dictionary, what about highliting??.
I tried Kindle App - which I think is the best for reading books, and I found out that it is not scaled properly.
Any solution for scaling problem?
Or maybe some suggestions of nice ebook apps or advices how and what you guys use/do ?
Thank you very much

But do all of you have scaling problems with Kindle App ? Because it fells like it is not a full screen.
Also I tried Aldiko ( I heard it is the best ). For me it i the worst. The most laggy app I've ever experienced. Unusable on Kindle unfortunately
Don't think I'm picky or smth. I just hate an idea that there are no simple apps as ebook reader..or at least it's hard to find.

Thanks for the tip, handles pdfs very well.
Aldiko is great, but for some strange reason it identifices a 7" tablet as our KF as a phone instead of a tablet. If they could get that fixed they would be kings of tablets again as well as they are of phones.

I use Aldiko and have never had any issues with it like those that are being described here. Its very smooth on my device. Mine is overclocked, though.

OP is on CM9 with the 3.0 kernel so that means he is (99% sure) overclocked too.
Ironically, I like the B&N Nook reader the best - IMHO the best legibility of fonts, spacing and scaling controls, and better/more intuitive/easier to use highlighting and commenting tools.
Have you tried Kobo Reader? It's my favorite!

gandoe , I never actually see the NOOK app! I did a research and found that it is somehow restricted in my country - I can't download it via market.
Can someone upload this app please! link here http://www.appbrain.com/app/nook-for-android-by-b-n/bn.ereader
Here is what I found:
*Kobo app is working pretty flawless and smooth ! Best app so far I've used ( I dunno about the NOOK one though..) big thanx to milanche
*Kindle App is smooth as well, but it just doesn't completely full screen on my Kindle Fire.
*Aldiko for me is annoyingly laggy app, especially when zooming, scrolling pages etc..
*Mantano Reader is nice a well BUT UI text is way too small and it just doesn't feel nice as an app ( just my opinion)
So can someone upload NOOK for android apk ?
THANK YOU!
P.S. Yes I tried to use Market Enabler to fake my country, but it do not allow me to install.....
You have the app brain link there. Why can't you download it?

It is pretty the best app now, even comparing with Kobo.

I use Aldiko and I love it. I have my background as tan and letters as brown and its quite easy on the eyes. Night setting is just the reverse brown/tan.
People talking about font being too small on some readers, isn't that customizable? I've only tried aldiko and kindle, an I was very unsatisfied with the kindle app. Alot of my book covers in the row were very small while some big and I couldn't find a fix so that killed it for me.
I do wish tho that the bookshelf in aldiko was resizeable. I like big book thumbnails.

I agree, but I use Aldiko only for free books, because I have 2 kindle devices so I need to use the stock kindle app to sync everything. But Aldiko does have small book covers and very basic page turn animation, but it still is pretty good
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
I don't know why but Aldiko when you turn pages of the ebook it delays for 1 sec or so. I particularly don't like that, and the book shelf has small thumbnails as mentioned. I'm playing with Kobo and NOOK apps now. I think NOOK is the best right now. Big thumbnails of books, quickly loads the books, nice animations on turning pages, and it's smooth when you turn pages. Easy highlight, notes selection tools. And you can adjust everything from font size to margins to font itself. So it's pretty cool app now for reading I think.
Kobo would be great as well, as I like the design of the app more. But it loads books slowly somehow. Even between chapter it takes some time to load book up. Selecting text and highliting is annoying though...
So I stick with NOOK now and probably Kindle app sometimes.
Aldiko would be great if they would fix small thumbnails of bookshelf, and if they would remove that scrolling the page delays...
Cool Reader is by far the best non stock kindle reading app. Because I was on stock for months before I switched to ICS, my entire library was MOBI format. SO I didn't have to convert them to another format. Cool Reader also has a ton of features, a lot more than the stock reader app or any of the other ones.

Inverted Google Drive.. or evernote?

Hi, just a quicky...
Ive been wanting to start mwking some notes, and usually id use evernote... but preferably id like to be able to use white text on a black background (which evernote cant do).
In fact no apps seem capable of this. However I did wonder if it was possible to get an "inverted" version of google drive? I only ask as im on redemption rom, which includes a couple other inverted google apps.. or an inverted evernote maybe, if such a thing is possible.
I have seen on other forums links to old versions of google drive, couldnt find anything current though unfortunately... thought id ask around on here for help
Ps. I did try and use the "negative colours" option... which works on the background and text but also makes the keyboard unbearable and other parts of the UI annoyingly-coloured...
Thanks for any help

There's two way of solving this. The first is to use SNote with a black background, no problems really (to make a black background, search the web or creating a picture that's all black and use that as background). The second way is to get a decent note app like LectureNotes where you can select "enable blackboard mode") under handling to get exactly what you want. You can also use black background and create white custom pens, that might be easier if you like to have some regular notes as well.
The third way is to check among the widgets after "negative colors" (stock widget), this widget does just what it says and you can use any program since everything white turns black and the other way around.
Hope this helped!

I already tried the "negative colours" stock widget... but the negative colours doesnt just turn black-white and white-black... it also converts all the other colours on the screen, which makes the keyboard a wierd bright yellow colour and the menus ... well, just annoying. more distracting than leaving things default!
I didn't consider trying SNote and making a black background, it would be a good idea in theory as I already have SNote... but I needed the ability to save my notes in the cloud, so that I can access them from the laptop easily (hence my usual program being evernote, I have a lot of notes on there. Just a shame the evernote android app doesnt support theming or blackboard).
.....
Ok well I just doeble checked this, and it turns out SNote has the ability to sync to evernote directly.... Im not sure how I managed to miss that, it was certainly kept pretty quiet lol. Seems it will synch to google docs as well, which is less surprising.
Seeing as I already have lots of evernote notes, I may try that first and see what happens.

In LectureNotes you have the ability to select where to save the notebooks, I'm not sure if Dropbox for Android is working like the PC version where Dropbox is keeping track of everything stored in a specific folder though. You can also backup to Dropbox, however I'm not sure if that's a one time backup or some continuous operation. I think you can select how often it should do this backup, but it's not that "everything, everywhere" experience I assume you're looking for.

Yeh, both lecturenotes and SNote allow for exporting to evernote or dropbox...
but lecturenotes only does it as non-editable .png images. Which is just useless, makes me wonder why people like this app so much :/
SNote does allow for exporting as text, which is at least a start. BUT you cant then import them back.
Seems like I'm stuck with using evernote. Its a good program, just a shame about the lack of customisation.

New MultiWindow/MultiTask Concept

Hey guys,
First, I really have no clue in which section I should post this, so I just took the General Section. Please move it, if there is a better one =)
Now what I want to talk about:
Multitask is a huge topic on Android devices, and there are several approaches how to handle this best. MultiWindow, Halo and QSlide/SlideAside are the most popular ones in this list to mention.
However, I think this feature is not perfect yet, so I just made a MultiWindow/MultiTask concept for myself.
I don't really think that this is possible to make. But, if there would be a crazy dev who wants to develope this further and create such a feature, I would really kiss his feet
So let's begin:
First, I would consider the Galaxy S4 as the best device for such an App. You will see later why. (Btw, Someone here who knows the mail address of Samsung? Then I could suggest them my concept^^)
What we start with is a simple picture of a running app (don't kill me for the pics, I just made them in Paint.net. But nevertheless I tried to make it good enough to understand what I am talking about.)
Here we are inside the Facebook App with S-Multi (that's how I just called it) enabled. There would be some kind of button/hotspot on the right bottom corner of the screen. If you type it once, a list with S-Multi supported Apps will open
Now you have the option to just select one App (it would open in a normal fullscreen Popup that is like Halo), or you can drag and drop it in one of four slots, or you can multiselect two up to four apps (hold buttons). As you can imagine, this means you can run maximum four apps at the same time. and that would basically looks like that:
Now you have your mainapp on the top and three other running apps on the bottom. To have the mainapp alone on the screen, just swype over the three apps on the bottom from left to right to hide them (and the other way round to show them again.)
With the Minibar (the three bottom apps) open, you have several possibilities.
1. If you type one of the slots once, it will open as a floating window (resizable, free movable)
2. If you type one slot twice, this app will open in fullwindow (minibar hidden)
3. You can drag and drop the slots to whichever position you want it (mainapp or three bottomslots)
4. If you hover you finger over one slot, a preview will popup. That would need Airview Support (Galaxy S4) Alternatively for devices without Airview you could hold the slot for a preview
Now let's begin to make it real multitask. If you have one App in S-Multi in Fullscreen, just hover (hold) your finger over (on) the hotspot to show a preview of all your apps currently opened in S-Multi:
Hover with your finger to the app you want to select while in this view (I will not mention the hold option any longer, but this is still present because it probably won't be able to include airview in a non Samsung app that soon, you know why)
However, this is not the mainidea of the Multitask. here you can generally see which app is in which slot without opening the minibar.
But the main feature would make use of the gesture sensor. And as I know there are several apps that bring these gestures to many non Samsung devices, it would be possible to make use of it.
So if you have Facebook opened in the midslot (which is actually the bottomslot) and whatsapp in the right slot, just swype from right to left over the sensor and the apps will switch. If Facebook is in the upperslot and whatsapp in the bottomslot just swype from the the button to the top direction:
Keep in mind that the apps would hold there slot positions. That means, if Facebook is in the top slot, Whatsapp in the bottom one and another app in the left one, if you would swype down from the other app to whatsapp, you don't get back to the app by swyping up, because then you would get into Facebook. The next pic shows better what I mean:
That's basically the Multitask.
(As an additional Samsung Feature, there could be also the possibility to open two apps aside as in normal multiwindow)
But, it could be more than that: A notification tool.
So if you recieve a notification by any app, a chathead could open and the hotspot of S-Multi would blink:
Now there a several possibilities:
a. Swype from right to left over the hotspot and choose the blinking slot (that's where the app will be open) S-Multi would make a chronic to restore the app that was in that slot once you close the app that caused the notification
b. Touch the chathead directly to open the app in a popup
c. Hover over the hotspot and then choose the blinking slot to open it in fullscreen.
Soo, that would be my concept for a cool Multitask feature =) It would make use of airview and airgesture in a much more sensible way then it currently does on the s4. And at least the airgesture is possible on more than just samsung devices. And I don't think that four running apps is to much. Current devices have 2gb ram, and i never saw my s4 use more than 1,3 of it. And at the end of this year and next year there will be devices with 3gb ram or even 4gb, so I think a better multitasking is a must be now.
So it would be cool if you tell me what you think about my idea and maybe give suggestions to make it better. I personally like it, but maybe it is totally bull**** and I just don't see it at the moment. However, I am not a dev and I will never be able to create stuff like that, but maybe it can be a proposal for one of the talented devs around here =).
A nice day to all of you
xPr0.
Edit: Btw, sorry for writing swipe with an y all the time -.-* I just recognized that it must be an i. Very embarrassing :X
That's a good idea, but I think that actually exist some apps that do the same things you said.
I support your idea!

Yep, indeed, there are some apps that do parts of this. There are some apps with floating windows, but with very few (and not really usable apps), and there are some notification apps. And there is an app called "Portal", that comes really near to what Halo on Paranoid does, but here too, there are just few apps supported.
This is the general problem. All these apps that are non-native (not made from the phone company, no official feature) are inevitably restricted. At least, they need root to convey an intimation of what would be possible if the devs would know the source codes. That's why I don't think Airview or Multiwindow will that soon part of non-native apps, unless a very very brilliant dev can crack them. Or unless the companies will make their source codes open source, but why should they do so, as this would affect their profit in a bad way if everyone can use their features to build new apps.
I agree, that is a good idea.
But I've read in a german article, that CM had a ready multi tasking feature for their roms, which has been forbidden from Google. The reason was that Samsung wanted to be the only one with that feature.
In my opinion, the Samsung MultiWindow feature ist a good thing, but if Google combines it with the Apple like switching of Tasks, its really Good.
There is an App called GMD Gesturecontrol, which makes it possible to switch between Apps like you do it on iPads...

Well, honestly, I don't think that Samsung's Multiwindow is that practical on Mobile Devices. It's just good on tablets. And there it is much more variable with the dual view and the cascade view.
Edit: I just tested the GMD Gesturecontrol app, but this app proves what made me think it's better to use the gestures sensor. It is much too complicated to use 4 fingers to swype. I just laughed when I heard SlideAside on G2 uses 3 fingers, now theres an app with 4 to 5 finger gestures. lol

Yes, 4 fingers is too complicated. Also, there is an app (I forgot the name, sorry) that use proximity sensor to do some actions, like, swipe your hands left, without touch the phone, and an app will be open.
It's for free and XDA made an article talking about this app.

You can change the gestures in GMD, that u can control it with one finger. Just need to get into settings....
There are many apps that can be usefull with Multiwindows. While you navigate in the car, you can simultaneously choose the music you want to play. Or browse in twitter while you have whatsapp open. In my opinion its practical, if you have a large screen, maybe 4,8"+

Well, sorry. My last post sounded a little too much like hating.
But in fact i love multi window (only cool additional feature would be to be able to open one app twice in mw) and i am so impressed by the gmd app. So please don't understand me wrong
