[Q] Replacing lockscreen mechanism - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I am using MIUI GB rom and I hate the fact that there is no way of disabling a slide-lock when using pattern lock. This means each time I unlock the phone, I have to unlock two screenlocks.
I was wondering if it is possible to replace the lockscreen mechanism built into the MIUI GB rom with the one from CM7 GB rom, and if so, what files do I need to replace?

[Q] Can I turn off a UI skin if I've rooted?

I'm interested in buying a used Vibrant, but only if I can root and turn off Touchwiz without flashing a custom ROM. Can you even root a phone and run its stock ROM? Or do you need a custom one to take its place? I'd ultimately like to delete all the bloatware, take off Touchwiz, and run stock 2.1.

HTC Sense 3.0 LockScreen

HTC Lockscreen from Sense 3.0 for all you Chefs and Non-Chefs lol...
Source
Just install this .apk, reboot and you will get the new sense 3.0 lockscreen!!
Missed calls, SMS, and more in the lockscreen!!
Also attached is the default 2.3.3 lockscreen incase you dont like it - Just remember to rename it to HtcLockScreen.apk
doesn't work on stock ROM, you can't install system app..
How do you install it?
I also have same problem... >> "you can't install this app"
Could it be you need root access to replace the system files? In which case it could be a bit of a trick
Even more of a reason to get this device S-Off('d)
Shame there isn't really a large 'modding' community backing it
thanks nice
Its a System App hence requires root.
So unfortunately no good to those without root.

I only get the new sense lockscreen and somehow it doesnt seem to alter anything else i.e calls still have the old lock
Did you just replace the old file with the new one?
double press power button to decline calls

How to install?
Someone can please post htc sense 2.1 lockscreen apk?
Thanks.
Best Regards.

Ive updated the 1st post with recovery flashable zips, both 2.1 sense and 3.0 sense versions.
Doesnt work on 2.3.4
Tried the apk (which installed fine) and the flash but neither have any effect. Lock screen remains stock....
EDIT: Probably because i found this thread through Google so didnt realise what section i was in... im on a Nexus One

The recovery flash is for Desire S and not the nexus so obviously wouldnt work. Mount points etc in the updater script will be different, thats if it uses updater script.
After installed it, my desire s can't boot anymore.
I guess, when it tries to load the lockscreen, it crashes.
What I am doing wrong :/ ?
Edit:
Ok, now it works. Flashed a custom rom and installed the lockscreen.
But one question left. I guess its not possible to put the mail, telephone... app to this lockscreen like in the sense 3.0 videos.
True oder false?
Sense 3.0 is laggy on Desire S or it works smooth?

[Q] Fresh re-flash of Infused v2

I would like to completely wipe my phone of the Kernal and the Infused V2 rom and reload just like i would if I got a new hard drive for a computer and loaded an OS on it. How would I do this? Currently, I started with the "CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip" because I was on stock Froyo out of the ATT box with the "update-infused-v2.1.0-full.zip". Was getting constant reboots so I reflashed with the "CWM-infused-v2.0.1-kernel.zip" because I was on GB now and the same rom. Seems to running well however I am concerned that I did a overlay instead of a complete fresh install. Can you help with what steps I need to take or is my "overlay" thinking incorrect?
[ROM] Infused v2.2.3 - (09/23)
I have a question about this rom from gtg465x. I have flashed my Samsung Infuse and I notice I can only use the pattern lock? I remember another person asked about the same thing? Is there a way to patch this so we can use the 4 digit pin lock? I am pretty accustomed with flashing roms and how it works but I think this rom is missing that piece of the puzzle. It's a great rom, fast and smooth but I wish I can use the 4 digit pin lock. I've notice most of the dev/cooked roms have this same issueconfused:

[Q] ICS Rom recommendations.

Hi
Bored of waiting for HTC to get the update out to me, so I've s-off'ed, installed Clockwork recovery. Also rooted it.
What I would like is an ICS rom that works. It must be fast, so JIT enabled (there is at least one where JIT doesn't work), I am not bothered one way or the other about sense. It doesn't seem to make much difference these days, there are apps that do everything it does. I use the camera, photos and film, wifi, phone, bluetooth, 3g, market, SD card, so all those things have to work. I'm a relative noob when it comes to installing roms, so something simple to install would be great
Can anyone suggest roms that meet those requirements, it's hard to tell from a 100+ page post on the forums here which bits do and don't work without spending hours trawling through them all.
Thanks
Endolf
I'm using Insert Coin and would recommend it as a first ICS rom. It uses aroma installer so you have your choice of several different options during install and won't need to flash anything extra other than the rom. I'd stay away from sense 4 roms as they still aren't perfected yet.
I'm assuming you've read the firmware update thread and that you know you need the newest firmware before trying to flash an ICS rom?
Are you looking for aosp or sense?
ICSensation 4G
Hi, didn't know I needed a firmware update, I'll have a hunt for the thread, thanks.

Hi
Not fussed between AOSP or Sense, as long as it all works, everything sense can do can be got elsewhere.
Thanks
Endolf
I've been using HyperNonsense for about 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it. It's smooth, fast, and stable. And it's very lean. It's whole purpose is to be not much more than an operating system ready for you to customize it with the apps you want. Just about everything is removed from it (SMS, camera, calculator, etc) so you can put only the things you want on it later. This sounds like ti's up your alley. It's technically Sense, but there's no sense elements left in the UI.
Before that I was using Android Revolution HD. It's also very stable. You have the option of running it with or without Sense. (There's an extraction flashable zip that pulls most of the Sense components out of the ROM after you install it). This one comes a little more 'fully loaded' and is basically the stock ICS release with several tweaks to the code.
To use either of these ROM's properly though you need to ditch ClockworkMod Recovery and switch to 4EXT. (It's downlaodable from the market and will flash itself as your new recovery image. You won't need to push anything with ADB or anything from your computer) 4EXT allows you to make choices during the installations of ROMs. Many of the new ROMS require that.
I have been very happy with the new ARHD 6.6.3 version and using ROM Cleaner to get rid of the bloatware up front.

[Q] changing the look of firmware

xda i was wondering due to my urge to change more and more about my phone i decided to look into changing the firmware texture. i don't know a lot about developing new files for a change like that on a phone but the idea i had in mind was: take a jellybean os texture (preferable nexus 4 or galaxy s3) and loading it onto a phone with gingerbread (2.3.6) then using a root explorer or terminal put it into the required places. this would work sort of like font installers except it would be manually
my phone is rooted lg c800 but no clockwork mod or roms. i'm hoping to possibly get this to work on all phones or at least most.
