[REQ] KQM Kernel with OC @ 1,8 Ghz - Galaxy S Plus I9001 Android Development

Hey guys,
Since im a heavy gamer ( Modern Combat 2/3/4,N.O.V.A 3,NFSMW and some other games ) i decided to take my phone back to stock KQM with root. I previously was on CM10 but the gaming behavior of it is just awful. I didnt managed to play a online round of MC3 to the end. It crashed, or lost Wifi connection every single time.
KQM is way better for gaming. Its almost fluid all the time, but i didnt managed to get it complete fluid. Sometimes there are lags for 10 - 15 seconds, and you know what that means for a FPS Gamer, its horror! And you want to throw your phone against the wall when youre in a 14 kill streak and it lags and you get killed one frag away from a nuke. AHHH. (Still better than CM10 where its around 12FPS all the time).
So im kindly asking someone to build a stock KQM Kernel with the ability for Overclock, and if its possible some shedulers. I think im not the only one who needs this and who would use it all the time.
I would do it myself, but i dont have the hardware for it, my CPU (my pc is from 2006) doesnt support x64 and i cant compile anything on it.
Thank you for your time. :good:
P.S: I know this is dev section, but cmon, who reads the I9000 General?? No one.

Why don't you use skyhigh?
You can't modify the kqm kernel itself. You can only use the provided sources by Samsung.

Hey XellaR*! Samsung just released the source for 2.3.3,
the Kernel from the first stock rom.
We don't have the source for the "new" 2.3.6 Kernel, that's why we cannot update...
greets,
EDIT: Do you know why the Q&A thread isn't sticky anymore?

Hi all,
I will try it but i can't give guarantee

64bit OS is not mandatory. 32bit works as well as long as the toolchain supports it. I wouldn't use a VM on 32bit though.
Regarding the KQM kernel.. I would try to find the OC/UV constants on binary level and patch the kernel directly. One possible way would be to compile two minimalistic kernels with both values (stock <> oc) and compare them. If you get the constants apply them to the KQM binary.
On the other hand... the 3.0 kernel is ready. It should kick any 2.3 kernels ass. Probably not worth the hassle at all...
Edit: You could also try to load the kernel directly into decompilers/disassemblers to find the constants. Maybe that's easier...

Very strange. I experienced gaming problems with ICS but not with JB... Very fluent. I am using slimbean!

Great, so the rules, obviously do not apply to you.
Next time post in the correct sections or your threads & your ability to post in dev sections will be removed. XDA does not exist for you alone.

[Q] Remove CPU Speed Limit in Android 2.2

How to Remove the CPU Speed limit of 600Mhz on Android 2.2, When I use Andoird 2.3 on this Device [Commtiva Z51], I am able to Clock the CPU at ~800Mhz, I want to do this on Android 2.2, I have a rooted Device.
Maybe a CPU Tuner
I am sure you can find a free one on Google Play you should take a look.

What you are referring to is known as overclocking (oc)...in order to overclock, you need a custom kernel, since (mostly) the stock kernel doesnt support oc
...
[Fyi, Android 2.3 is better than 2.2 in a lot of ways...]

??? What are you trying to tell??
Typed using a small touchscreen
I already have No-frills CPU control from the play store and it works but not over 600Mhz and yes, it is Overclocking (OC), I am running a custom rom, Android 2.3 Roms are available but i am not using those as they drain the battery really fast (even without overclocking). It seams like it is a limitation with Android 2.2 as I have tried other Roms also and they too have the same problem.
No nothing like that...
Oc is kernel dependent...you can make an oc kernel for froyo also...
And if you oc, you will get faster battery drain, and maybe heat issues...
Typed using a small touchscreen
Overclocking
Currently I am using this Rom (Jellybean <link> slinkme.co.cc/jellybean <link> [Added like this as I cant add links now]) , As far as I know this supports overclocking. And also if this kernel does not support Overclocking, Can you give me a OC kernel for Android 2.2.1 (This Rom).
All devices are different, and so is their kernel/rom/etc....you cannot use stuff for my device on yours...
And jellybean is sypposed to be android 4.x/5...and not 2.2.1
Give me a screenshot of the stuff written in about phone...then maybe I can point you to the right direction...
Typed using a small touchscreen
Jellybean is my Rom name, it is Android 2.2.1, I want a Kernel that Supports OC, Do you have one ? Android Jellybean is 4.1.
My Device : http:~//~slinkme.co.cc/mydevice (Remove ~ for the link)

the easiest way...ask your rom developer to make a kernel with OC support. you can't compile a kernel for your device and neither me since I don't even know what your device is.

What kind of PHONE do you have & ROM are you running? THAT determines the kernel.

[Kernel] JB/ICS Kernels V2.57 Linaro 12-27-12 Flashable zip works with ANY ROM

First off, here is the github
https://github.com/pio-masaki/at100-kernel.git
Everything I do for this kernel is done there.
Now that's out of the way, here are some highlights:
Beginning of OC code (yes, an OC ICS kernel)
Added a slew of governors for your choosing
Added a couple i/o schedulers
Slight CFLAG tweaking
This is a work in progress!
If you have issues feel free to report, but this is my first ever kernel project, and it may take some time for me to address them!
Dos and Dont's in this thread:
No flaming, please. If someone asks a question thats been asked before, simply remind them and if you would, link the post or thread containing the answer. Replies like "Use search" don't help at all. Saying "Next time, use the search, the information is here" is of course what I would like to see. XDA will be better for this.
No ETAs! I can not, and will not, make any promises on when I can fix, build, or otherwise even think about this kernel, or any rom, period. Asking for ETAs, even politely, will either go unanswered, or reminded of this note.
Issue reporting: I always welcome issue reports, of course, however keep in mind, the point made above is also covering this, I may not have time to address an issue immediatly, though I will try to post back and acknowledge that I have seen the issue, or to ask further questions. Please include as much information as possible, settings for speed, governor, IO, profiles in use for screen off (which I advise against), cpu control app in use, etc. Dmesg would be nice as well, use pastebin, we don't want to see an 8K line post of a log
Changelog:
Experimental V0.1 10-02-12
First "release" for testing. This is internal build 8, and from this point on, will be labeled and numbered as releases, IE if this does ok, next will be Alpha 1, or experimental V0.2, etc.
Added OC code
Experimental V0.2 10-05.12
Second release for testing. Does now include the CODE for voltage control, but is not enabled yet. I didn't enable it to help prevent issues with instabilities from UV being confused with kernel issues. GPU OC is active, 320/400 MHz 2D/3D. Does not play well with ICS, CM10 use only.
Experimental V0.3 10-06-12
Rewrote alot of the upper end speed/voltage/timing code from 1.508 to 1.472, VT, haptic feedback fix? Proved unstable to the point of being unusable. Pulled.
Stable V0.4 10-06-12 "Caspar"
Reverted to V0.1 OC code after the disaster of V0.3. Left out voltage control code, implemented GPU OC as previous in V0.2, VT is enabled, possible haptic fix (not likely). Governors and IO schedulers should remain as before, min/max settings should remain as before. 1.5 is likely still broken.
Experimental V0.5e "Melchoir" 10-18-12 ICS only
All new CPU Speed tables, overall max is lowered from 1.5 which froze to 1.478, and more speeds in between. Those who used the Shiva Kernel will be familiar with the speed range. GPU OC is bumped up 20mhz in 2D/3D. SmartassV2 code added. The kernel has branched since V0.4 and is now a JB and an ICS specific design, one doesn't work for the other anymore, sorry to say. "Melchoir" is the ICS branch kernel, "Balthesaur" is the JB branch kernel which is included in the CM10/Kuroikaze builds.
"Melchoir" V2.4 ICS
Experimental support of CIFS and slight config changes to maybe improve kernel performance. Branch from "Caspar" and includes speeds, governors, IO schedulers and any previous bugs. 1.5Ghz is likely still broken.
"Balthesaur" V2.75 Linaro JB NON OC
Experimental fixes for ExFat corruption issues.
No CPU or GPU OC
Built with Linaro 4.7 toolchain with some optimizing tags turned on
Retains Governors and IO Schedulers from the OC version
Instructions
Download the zip from the link given below
Boot into CWM
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Install from zip
Install the kernel zip
Reboot
First boot will take longer as the caches are being rebuilt
Let kernel settle for 10 minutes
Reboot
Let kernel settle for 5 minutes
Begin normal usage and setting up
System Tuner has been reported to work with great success.
Downloads
Experimental OC 1 | Mirror
*note* 1.5Ghz is unstable, please limit to 1.4Ghz for testing.
Experimental V0.2
*note* 1.5Ghz is unstable, please limit to 1.4Ghz for testing. Only for CM10.
Experimental V0.3
*note* completely unstable, pulled.
Stable V0.4 "Caspar" ICS
*note* 1.5Ghz is unstable, please limit to 1.4Ghz for testing.
Experimental V0.5e "Melchoir" ICS
*note* does not boot. See change log for information. ICS only kernel. Please have V0.4 zip handy in case this kernel goes ballistic or doesn't boot, etc.
Experimental V2.4 "Melchoir" ICS
*note* likely retains the 1.5GHz lockup issue.
Balthesaur V2.75 Linaro No OC JB ONLY
Non OC kernel by request. Built with Linaro and current 2.75 source. For use with Jellybean ROMs only. Retains IO Schedulers and Governors, just no CPU or GPU overclock at all. Possibly includes fixes for exfat corruption (planned for U6, but may as well)
Revert kernel
Favum ICS kernel | Mirror
Use this in CWM, same as before, to restore the boot.img and modules for Favum ICS, it may work for other Official based ICS, may not, untested.
Notes and Updates
Mirrors added, V0.1 initial release
V0.2: GPU OC 320/400 MHz 2D/3D. Does not play well with ICS, use only with CM10.
Kernel naming and what they mean:
As the kernel development for Jellybean gained momentum, changes to the kernel source and drivers made the kernel no longer compatible with BOTH ICS and JB, so a new branch needed to be built, one for each android version.
Caspar = The trunk kernel, the first base which all other kernels are built from, contains the original OC settings, governors and schedulers, but not much else, pretty stock.
Melchoir = The First branch, this is for ICS only, and is slightly more updated then the JB kernel, but not by far, is pretty stale development wise while I work on the JB kernel.
Balthesaur = The second branch, this is for JB only, and is the more updated and recent and heavily developed kernel by far.
Each kernel release is still compatible with ANY ROM, however it MUST be of the proper android version, Meclchoir should be flashed only to ICS and Balthesaur should only be flashed to JB. Caspar, should you choose to use it, is ICS only as well.
Do not flash these to other android versions, including Honey Comb, they may boot but they will certainly not function correctly.
FAQ
Q: How does this work with any ROM?
A: Installs by taking apart the current boot image, replacing the kernel binary, repacking then reflashing the boot image, and copies the matching modules into your system/lib folder. It keeps the existing ramdisk, which is why it works in between both ICS and JB.
Q: Where did you get your source changes from?
A: Source changes are coming from ezTerry and Godmachine, with guidance from Godmachine. Changes by ezTerry may come from other places, however I can not verify that, and its from his github.
Q: Is this included in any ROM?
A: Yes, this kernel is included with my CM10 builds, including Kuroikaze-Thrive
Thanks go out to:
First off, godmachine / linux society! We've had our spats (rather, I've had mine) however his guidance made this possible.
ezTerry: for giving us the first modded Acer Iconia kernels, also basing some of this work on his work on ezT20 kernel.
Da-pharoah for as always encouraging my work and to try new things.
tybar over at thriveforums.org (he may also be here?) for his work on CM10 and supplying the initial source this began with.

Yeah unless something is different with the kernel binary as well, which I doubt, it shouldnt cause a problem.
As far as I know its the first kernel from source for ics so I don't think any issues will come up.

[A700] [KERNEL] iconiaN - OC-UV

First as always, I am not responsible for any damages caused by using any files I release.
ok, right down to the point of this post.
I built kernel with the help of faux123 with OC/UV & GPU OC and have been asked to release it, so here it is:
Downloads:
iconiaN Kernel for A700 Final version
Currently it only clocks to 1.5GHz (Used SetCPU) more work is still to be done
GPU is OC'd to 520MHz
I welcome feedback and suggestions :fingers-crossed:
Please do NOT package these kernels with a custom ROM, instead point your users to this thread
Massive thanks to faux123 for complying with GPL, as I borrowed the GPU OC & UV from his kernel sources.
GPL States I should provide full source, so here it is: on GitHub
Wow. That's definitely a must have! I hope this will change the experience and launches apps faster.
Aren't the CPU and the GPU put together in one socket?
Will this kernel be packaged in iconiaN 2.2 by any chance?
I wondered why you wrote that the GPU is clocked at 1.5 Ghz. That`s a little bit too high in comparison with the mali 400 and other mobile GPU. Now I looked at your github and I see 520 MHz. A really nice Overclock too. Maybe you have clocked the CPU to 1.5 GHz?
I will test the kernel in a few minutes. Big THX for this
I was tired.
Was thinking CPU lol.
Yes it is a 520MHz sorry
I've not done the cpu oc yet though.

Vorbeth,
I downloaded and installed this last night. It was stable, but seemed to lag a bit. I think the OC of the GPU helps less than an OC of the CPU. Running the modified kernel OC'd at 1.4 seems to have a greater impact than OC'ing the GPU... it really seems like 1.3 GHz is not fast enough to support the higher clock speed on the GPU...???
Obviously, getting the both ramped up would seem to be the best scenario.
Your work on all of this for the A700 is very much appreciated!

This kernel does have the 1.4GHz cpu speed.
I'm going to see if I can push it a bit more.
Aiming for 1.6GHz CPU & 600MHz GPU.
Sent from my EndeavorU using xda app-developers app
Yes Sir! If 600 GPU aren`t stable, I think we can life with 500 too, when the CPU runs fine at 1,6 Ghz.
I`ve tested Wild blood(gameloft game with the Unreal engine 3, that works after I edited the build.prob) with your default kernel, and I think it was around 20 fps so I definitively need more horse-power
Sorry for the Double post, but I have downloaded your new kernel from google docs, and I`ve got no error during the CWM installation. So nothing to worry about Sir

This will be fixed at the weekend, with my current work hours I currently don't have time to compile the kernel and get it uploaded
Thanks Vorbeth - when you do get around to it, is it possible to post a link to a flashable kernel version that we can use with the CM10 nightlies?
This has been out a while now (and I've not had time to try it myself), but has anyone out there been using this this past while? Thoughts? Anyone? Bueller?

Do you want P6800 JB custom kernel development?

I have built a P6800 JB custom kernel from MD3 source.
FOR P6800 GSM/3G device running JB MD3 ONLY
It has compiled without errors.
Kernel compression = Gzip
Added NTFS filesystem support
General optimze for size
Support for paging of anonymous memory (swap)
Pegagsus governor set as default (although didn't see any module compiled.....)
Removed powerSave & userSpace governors
Default IO scheduler = NOOP
As I don't have the device (only P6810), I can't actually test myself...........
If you wish to test, only first EXPERIENCED SENIOR member to volunteer (reply in this thread) to test and give proper feedback will receive the links by PM.
I have 4 files :
Odin (.tar) & CWM (.zip) flashable .tar for both stock and SkyHigh kernels.
There may be a RISK involved, but if you choose to accept, you assume all responsibilty.
If the kernel works/partially, I MAY continue further development by adding various features :
example only - OC/UV, frandom support, tweaks, governors, io schedulers, and other modules etc. Some method, I cannot test until my P6810 is upgraded
I will not release sources/changes as this kernel is not for public release ! Only, MAYBE if it actually works....(Plus I have to find out how to upload repo to github anyway )
Up to you guys to, otherswise this stalls here.
Cheers,
UITA
I think i can give it a go.
I'd be happy to test for you, the main interest for me would be UV the CPU/GPU and screen.
Probably doesnt help but this kernel (Hirox version) does the job amazingly, stops my phone from heating up in the slightest with no loss of performance and great battery life

Thanks for you work and time
cant seem to add picture in PM... current SS...
Real nice, as I said, "baby steps", otherwise it would too hard to know where I went wrong with too many additions at once.
Will work on it again late Wednesday night or Thursday, so expect beta_v0.8 then
Cheers

SkyHigh JB Kernel
Kernel development is now continuing as a public release in the P6800 SkyHigh Kernel thread >> HERE <<
Cheers

Thread closed as per OP's request.

[DEV][WIP][KERNEL-PATCH][MSM7x30/8x55 GPU OVERCLOCKING][2d-core done][3d-core][v0.7]

Finally after someone pm'd me I looked back into GPU Overclocking.
New thread created issues with old thread OP permissions (people seem to be asking the same questions over and over again all information will be kept in OP & DO READ THE THREAD, repetitive questions will now be ignored)
Benefits:
Smoother UI
Handle 2d & 3d core GPU intensive applications & games
Currently only 2D core has been overclocked working on 3D core OC
2D-core original value - 192mhz OC to 245mhz DONE achieved 25% performance boost grp_2d_clk outputs 245760000hz
3D-core original value - 245mhz OC to 300+mhz WIP hoping to achieve 40-50% performance boost
2D-core OC only Download: Coming soon...
Download Links for other devices coming soon...
Works for all HTC Sense/Cm9/Cm10 kernels (Just ask a kernel developer for your device to implement the source code)
Note: Don't have internet on PC so providing 3 main files that need replaced for 2D-core OC to work
Download link to source code: http://d-h.st/wbH
3D-CORE OC TESTS Download: Coming soon...
Do check under sys/kernel/debug/htc_clock/clks/ look for file with all clocks & look for GRP_clks (Graphics clock)
OK so basically today I've been thinking and I've come to the conclusion that I will release the 2D-core OC patch As Soon As Possible, 3D-core Core OC is NOT Impossible but for now I'll give it a break, I will attempt 3D-core OC If/When I can get a hold of a msm7x30/msm8x55 device, as it will make it much easier for both me & users.
So for now you can enjoy the 50mhz increase/bump up, perf boost 25% in 2D-core (will increase performance in both 2D/3D intensive appications as 2D-core is used for 3D AFAIK and increase User Interface performance (Note: This will not take a hit on battery life)), I will also release a couple of fixes on patchas kernel that shouldnt be there/set etc.
(Theres a device available in my area for roughly £90, if anyone wants to contribute towards getting that device or can donate a device , more than welcome and shoot me a PM so I can list you here.)
(This isnt a promise of 3D-Overclock if you donate, if you donate please do so expecting nothing I will only attempt 3D-overclock)
Working device list - all kernel 3.0+ msm7x30/msm8x55 soc devices.

thanks for your work
i m just curious
what s the difference with this:
3d: https://github.com/kylon/AndromadusMod-New/commit/bccb6227f629d5dbb6687e0aa851dd86b4fac01a
2d/ increase 3d: https://github.com/kylon/AndromadusMod-New/commit/e623d0449be04081d0418b799fbe3737371dd56c#diff-137 (this is a big commit, sorry)
there is a good performance boost with this, also, now, you can see 8fps on Antutu (openGL 2.0) (6/6.5 before)
tested on cm10.1
What is this.? Kernel patch... Working with our desire S with cm 10.1 instaled and stock kernel that come with Flinny last 24.2 test built?

Hi I'm unable to look at patch no.2 its too big for the laptop to handle but to comment on the first one it takes more than modifying the kernel graphics software layer platform data to overclock the kernel especially if its the 3d core it takes more, the msm7x30/msm8x55 is a very unique soc, im not sure where those values were pulled from but sure doesnt make sense. Afaik no one has yet managed 2d oc nvm 3d oc until now... :s
You can find them in the incredible s dev section
We have the same soc

Yeah basically ive seen it all, all the commits on the devices with this gpu oc only modified the kgsl pdata with random values they want LOL, its false that isnt how it works, the 2d oc i done is 100x easier than 3d oc and look, i modified more than the kgsl pdata just to get the 2d-core running a measly 50mhz boost.
Hi! How can apply this patch?
AFAIK you´re no kernel dev, right? Maybe by reading OP

Nah. There is no zip. Link in the op is for source. So a developer like kaylon have to merge it. OP just posted the source he is trying to compile not made any kernel yet. If I'm reading the OP right.
Wow I'm still a noob

Thanks for clarifying! I thought, it should have been flashed as a .zip. My noob level is over 9000.
I hope amidabuddha includes this in his awesome kernel

Holy Jesus, just open the .zip you've downloaded...really
seems it is not working on my kernel
based on what you said in the dhd dev section i should see 245mhz in /sys/kernel/debug/htc_clock/list_clocks or in /sys/kernel/debug/clk/grp_2d_clk/rate
but they say 192
while i can see 245 in sys/devices/platform/kgsl-2d0.0/kgsl/kgsl-2d0/gpuclk
your files are different, especially kgls_pwrctrl(you are using an old kgsl)
maybe the jb kernel needs some more edits

Push your code to github n link me to it n ill have a look at it
I cannot push the code to github
I can give you my files, tonight
EDIT:
the 3d oc is still there, even if it is not a real oc, it gives us a performance boost
