Hey all,
Got my Galaxy S3 from Verizon today. It was on 4.1 JB
I have been following this guide to root/unlock the bootloader so I can do custom roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
I used Odin to flash the bootchain and then I followed the steps and flashed the ClockworkMod Touch Recovery 6.0.2.3
I am not trying to figure out what to do next. When my phone boots up it says custom and has a unlocked symbol at the bottom.
I went into recovery as the steps said but I do not know what to do. Odin flashing said everything went ok ect...
Right now I see a normal green recovery screen with adb options or apply updates from external ect..
What is the next step? How do I apply the Download SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader?
I DO NOT have an SD CARD I have 16GB internal memory only. Please let me know how to continue foward the instructions are not as descriptive as I need since I am a newb! THANKS!
If you see a normal green recovery than something wasn't done correctly. The CWM recovery has a Grey background

I believe that would be the stock recovery, looks like CWM didn't flash. I would recommend installing a custom recovery and rooting + unlocking using a different method which is much easier.
Edit: I've always just odined back to 4.0.4 and rooted + unlocked using easier methods than 4.1. That would be my recommendation since I've never tried rooting 4.1. Start with section 5 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709 and continue from there.

I assume your device is S-on therefor you need to flash the boot.img via fastboot!
also I recommend using twrp 2.3.3.0 as anything newer causes flashing issues in some roms prob not cm10 though!

Yes i'm afraid so until you S-Off which when you get used to the use of adb / fastboot commands is really quite simple, view face palm in the dev section! Glad you got sorted!
flash boot.img then it would be ok

You can also use flash image gui for flashing of kernels. Just search on internet for the apk.

im assuming you have a xt925? where did you get a "17/10/2013" version for the 925?
i haven't seen any new versions, maybe i missed it.
The version doesn't matter because the problem is that you need to boot immediately into the custom recovery directly from boot loader the first time and disable the flash recovery script. The OS will overwrite the stock recovery every boot otherwise.
damn i missed that...knew that was stock and not an error, i fail lol

After you push/install the recovery you need to "reboot recovery" the first time, not reboot to system.
My comment is asking if you have the right recovery. I see the date on your recovery is new, I'm making sure you are not trying to flash a 926 recovery if you have a 925. You didn't say what model you have.

Hm. I understood. Then after I install recovery I need to write "reboot rexovery" right ? When I come back home I'll try !
A sure, I'm sorry I forget to say what is my version phone.

I see now you have a 925 as I suspected, my concern was that you have the right recovery also. I haven't seen any new version for the 925, maybe I missed it. Just make sure you have a 925 recovery or it may not work right or at all.
The edit date in your script for the recovery was yesterday that's why I asked.

i think you just need to put
fastboot reboot recovery
where you have fastboot reboot. you have to make it reboot directly into recovery, if it boots to system the new recovery is gone.

I captured the URL for today's OTA update on the T-Mobile Alcatel 9006w via logcat
Code:
wget -O 9006W-2ATBUS1-ota-update.zip http://g2slave-us-east-01.tctmobile.com/19d1572684cd9a2cfee8b0389e135120c36553fe/f74753b81536196fc732138ea00da035c00b8280/105022/69647
I want to use this and a system dump to create a stock rooted .zip, and possibly a separate firmware update.
I am pretty sure I can handle getting /system into a flashable .zip, but I have no idea where to start with a flashable firmware update. I have no clue where to start in order to make sure we don't break fastboot and/or TWRP.
Does anyone have any experience pulling the good stuff out of an OTA?
We should first get a flashable stock .zip. Then a flashable update .zip. We can always make a flashable firmware .zip later.

Ill know in a couple minutes here. You'll need to flash back to stock before doing the update.zip though. You can do the update through twrp np. Keep your fingers crossed.
Nah, no go.

When I tried that I downloaded update then hit install. It just reboots to bootloader and not the system. Did yours hang where you have to hold the up and power button to reboot?

No. You have to reflash the stock recovery else the update won't start. Or it'll go to twrp and do nothing.

Anyway of making a video about how to do this?
I recently got a notification to download a newer update. I'm in the process of reverting to stock and allow the update to proceed. I would like to get a stock system image once that has completed. Please advise the best way to do this so that I can share it.
Thanks.

You can install a custom recovery through fastboot (however that requires you to unlock the bootloader) and then root from the recovery using the SuperSU zip recovery installer.

You will lose your warranty (if you have one) and the data partition will be wiped (meaning that you will lose your game progress, apps...). Also you will not be able to receive official OTA updates.
It's also worth mentioning that some phones don't need an unlocked bootloader for fastboot, but in most cases this is necessary.

If you have a unlocked bootloader then you don't need root access to flash a custom recovery via fastboot (or download mode).
If you don't have a PC and you want to flash a custom recovery you'll need root access.

I flashed the stable build. Using twrp and its working fine. Twrp is still thr. Twrp usually gets replaced by stock while updating via the updater app.. But u should have no issues flashing it back using the toolkit. Check ur pc drivers and try again.

Even I had flashed using twrp as the phone was rooted before! If I had updated through the updater app then it would have stuck into bootloop so " I used twrp to flash stable" but it replaced my twrp in stock mi recovery and my phone lost root! Now I cant flash nor boot twrp!
P.S drivers are installed perfectly but my fastboot just remains for like 30 seconds and it again reboots! Any solutions?
