[Q] Desire S not booting Sense ROMs - HTC Desire S

Hey, I need some help regarding ViperSAGA ROM...
I tried flashing it and my phone won't boot.
Full wipe-->Clear Cache-->Clear Dalvik Cache-->Install Rom(v1.0)-->Install flashable v1.1.0update-->boot loader n then flash boot.img through fastboot.
The phone gets stuck on a black screen after T-Mobile logo appears. I left it for sometime but still its same black screen.
Coming from PACMan v19 and This was the same problem when I tried flashing Cooldroid. Same stuck on black screen. Is it some problem with Sense ROMs?
Other ROMs works fine (Andromadus 4.2 builds,CM10.1,PACMan,JellyTime).
here is my phone info:
Htc devunlock
Hboot 2.00xx
Cwm recovery...
I already searched different threads and also took help from a good friend of mine (google) so please dont bash me for a stupid question (If it sounds like one)
Hope anyone can help.
Thanks.

what's your hboot? AFAIK, some sense roms need a "special" hboot as the ROMS have a separate /system/libs

I already mentioned the hboot above. Its 2.00.xxx
Also I used Fallout Evolution before flashing to 4.1.2 ROMs and it worked superb..
Its some disturbance after I used JB Roms

When you say "full wipe", do you mean all partitions? (/system, /data etc.)

By Full Wipe I mean "wipe data/factory reset" option i.e the one below install zip from sdcard. I always do only that
Where do I wipe data system etc?

[Q] Superwipe on the Sensation

I am currently S-Offed and running a custom rom, but have seen in a few of the forums people talking about "Superwipe". I've searched around and it seems that the Superwipe is written for the HTC Dream. Is it safe to use the V2 script in this thread "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834812" on the Sensation, and what does it do that doing a wipe from CWM Recovery doesn't? Is it worth doing?
Thanks.
i would not risk it myself as i dont know as im fairly new to android coming from winmo
But i have done my sensation and used the superwipe provided in the android revolution hd rom thread here. (half way down, just under the download link for the rom)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
the file is named as if its specifically for the sensation and worked perfectly for me.
I used the Full_wipe.zip from CoreDroid rom which worked perfectly.
You can try this if superwipe does not work for you.
same as woody, i did as he said and had no issues
Can we just wipe all the data using cwm, I want to root and apply a Rom, I'm not new to this as I have rooted and installed Roms on my vibrant. I never used no superwipe on my vibrant. After reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261458 I don't even want to risk using superwipe
me to, althought i use super-wipe but i also want to know how to use CWM to wipe too
You can do it in CWM but is just so much easier to run the superwipe script. I have been using Mike's ARHD Superwipe script practically from the day we got the Sensation unlocked and have never had a single issue. And don't read too much into the thread you linked b/c running the superwipe script will not do anything to brick your phone. If you don't want to superwipe then you can factory reset, clear cache, format cache, format system, format data, and wipe dalvic cache which should do the same as the script. Welcome on board and happy flashing

The DL link for SuperWipe seems to be dead in that thread. Does anyone have an alternative link for where to download it from?
It's my first time flashing a ROM so I'm trying to follow instructions exactly to have minimal possible issues.
I use this if moving to a different ROM:
http://www.multiupload.com/CYTE1KKXHS
(new link to the one that was on mike1986's thread)
That's great, thanks Eddy!!
I've used the super wipe and full wipe zips before and just now have heard something of mounting the system partition prior to flashing the super wipe. Is it necessary and a second question is why the super wipe states that the partitions are unmounted already? Does it unmount them prior to formating or what? Thx in advance.
What does super wipe do? Will it wipe all sdcard(like format)?

No, it just removes some system files from the SD card, but doesn't format it.
The following directories will get removed recursively from the SD card:
.android_secure
.bookmark_thumb1
.data/footprints
.data/mail
Android/data/com.android.providers.media
sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.genie.geniewidget.news-content-cache
sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.maps
sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Temporary
sdcard/LazyList
sdcard/LOST.DIR
However your system, data and boot partition will get formatted, as well as a cache partition on your SD card.

Hi there all,
I'm going to be flashing the latest 6.x ARHD ICS ROM onto my sensation.
I'm following the threads on firmware etc... Just wanted to know abit more about Superwipe.
I'm running EXT4 as my recovery atm, will Superwipe replace that?
What exactly does a superwipe do? Also will my recovery still be intact and will Superwiping delete anything that has been saved to apps etc... Saved games, details etc...

Superwipe formats the system and data partitions on the phone, ready for you to flash a new ROM. It doesn't touch your SD card. It won't touch your recovery tool.

[Q] Switch from 4EXT to CWM ? / Flashing boot.img ? (CM10-alpha)

Hi XDA
My device before the procedure : HTC Desire S, unbranded, Bootloader locked,
HBoot 2.00.0002, S-ON, ICS stock rom via HTC RUU tool
I unlocked the bootloader via htcdev.com.
After hours of reading and testing "everything" I found here on xda (great stuff!!),
I finally managed to have a running CM10-alpha.
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776256 / Version 2012-09-17)
As I am new to this flashing stuff, I first tried to follow the flashing guide
on the CM-website. Was not workable because "Revolutionary" can not be used on hboot 2...
So I continued with flashing CWM-recovery and after a wipe (factory/reset/cache/dalvik),
I flashed CM10.zip and gapps.zip.
It went through without any errors, unfortunately, the device did not boot afterwards.
I found this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100 (CustomROM with 4EXT-recovery)
It indicates flashing "boot.img" (from the CM10 zip-file) as a last step.
Probably the most important step for this HTC device ?!
The Desire S booted CM10 without any further problems and is running since.
(I did not flash GApps.zip, just downloaded Maps and Youtube.)
I have 3 questions :
1. Is it possible to update to a newer version of 4EXT-recovery without losing
the CM10-installation ?
(e.g. 4EXT-Touch : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377745)
2. Is it possible to switch from 4EXT to CWM-recovery without losing
the CM10-installation ? I would like to have CWM because I could then use the ROMManager App.
(e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484753)
3. If I would stick with the current 4EXT-recovery,
do I always have to flash "boot.img" as the last step before booting up the device ?
(e.g. after the next CM10-alpha release)
"fastboot flash boot boot.img"

CM10 is great, so much faster than HTC-stock rom ICS (with Sense 3.6) !!

Edit: you only have to flash the boot.img when the kernel changes from cm10 to fallout yes.
Updating cm10 no, if the dev didn't change the kernel.
After a full wipe (in 4ext format everything exept SD-card) you also have to use fastboot. Because that wipes the boot.img
Thanks !
Just to recap, I can flash CWM-recovery and then do a normal bootup (with my existing CM10 installation). No further actions required !?
As the kernel will probably remain at v2.xx with the next CM10-alpha-release of nik111, I only wipe reset/factory/cache/dalvik
and then flash the new cm10.zip.
I do not think that I will format anything. But if I would, I would have to replace boot.img again.

Changing recovery will not touch anything else on your device. But there were some issues reported with CWM on some ROMs.
I think one of them is a lack of /system/lib partition support, which is important if you go from a ROM that has such to a ROM without one (it will end with two conflicting /system/lib directories and the device will not boot.
Also I am not sure that CWM wipes the .android-secure directory on the SDcard which can cause issues if going from AOSP to Sense ROM
For some reason I never changed from cwm to 4ext whilst I owned a ds but I can confirm it does wipe .android-secure on the sd card

I have used it about an year ago so it is definitely improved. But there was an user with Bluetooth issues after flashing my kernel and changing the recovery solved it. Also 4EXT has a lot of minor but very useful settings over CWM. Anyway the OP can try both and stick with the one he likes more
Btw Rom Manager can be used to check for updates and ROM downloads with 4EXT if you choose "manual flash override" from the menu

Nk111 uploaded a screenshot today, that shows kernel v3.0.16
When upgrading cm10 wiping cache & dalvic cache should be enough. If you get any problems, apps fc or something like that, do a full wipe(I use format all partitions except SD card in 4ext, after that don't forget to flash the kernel with fastboot).
Btw wipe and format is the same.
Bug in CM10 Alpha by nk11
Hello XDA,
Sorry if this question is in the wrong thread.
It is regarding the cm10 alpha port by nk111.
I got it working, save one major bug, the speaker does not produce any sound output whatsoever:
This applies to ringtones, alarm tones and music.
The sound is perfectly audible through a pair of earphones.
I followed the steps in the official thread to delete the file /system/lib/hw/audio_policy.msm7x30.so and reboot
but this only aggravates the issue by disabling all audio outputs!!!
I am running clockwork mod v5 with HTC bootlocker unlocked, S-ON.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[HELP] Problem with custom roms

Dear community,
I bought HTC ONE S s4 one day ago and l have done those thing already:
Unlock Bootloader
S-OFF
SuperCID 111....
Installed custom recovery - CWM touch 6.0.3.1, i've tried TWRP but I'm having problems with sdcard mounting.
Let's face my problem which in this case is really strange
I flashed:
YES: I DID WIPE AND CLEAR CACHE & DALVIK -> Yes, i tried boot.img and other custom kernels.
1) TrickDroid 9.1.0 results => Wizard has stopped and HTC Sense homescreen is black but I can use nav bar and go to options but it is crashing really often.
YES: I DID WIPE AND CLEAR CACHE & DALVIK -> Yes, i tried boot.img and other custom kernels.
2) ViperOneS 2.2.0 results => WIFI does not work, I've tried installing WIFI partitions and WIFI Fix by someone who posted solution in HOS Dev section.
YES: I DID WIPE AND CLEAR CACHE & DALVIK -> Yes, i tried boot.img and other custom kernels.
3) BAKED BlackBean 8 results => it is too blue? where letters should be white they are blue, WTF?
YES: I DID WIPE AND CLEAR CACHE & DALVIK -> Yes, i tried boot.img and other custom kernels.
4) Virtuous Ville+ RC-1 results => no problem :good:.
But I would like to install Venom ROM, but how? Since I am having so annoying FCs, bugs etc.
I've had Samsung Galaxy S i9000 for over 2 years and I haven't got any single problem. I''ve flashed many phones like SGS II, HTC HD 2, Sony Xperia x8 so many of them to count, but this model has beaten me so hard.
Please help me.

Sorry, was off for dinner.
You can flash any custom sense kernel. There are three: bulletproof, elementalx and bricked. Bulletproof is closest to stock, the others are modded (OC etc.) All three work very well. Depends on your taste so.
Btw if you flash the update Viper becomes laggy. Go to settings, apps, all apps and clear data of venom tweaks and venom hub. Also go to settings, personalize and choose another skin. These need to be done only once!
You're good to go, man. Enjoy!

Thank you very much. I still don't know what I've done wrong. After following your steps it worked. How? I did the same.
EDIT.
Ok. The reason I failed 54 times is because I was selecting custom kernel instead stock kernel in instalation menu. Why I had to set stock since they are custom kernels?
I've also noticed hat my navbar is gone Can you fix that too?
Point is, that at the time this JB rom was created there were no sources for the stock kernel. HTC provided them much later.
So Viper came and still comes with the stock kernel. Maybe the devs already thought about adding custom kernels to choose from within aroma installer, maybe not. You can check the timeline in the changelogs in the corresponding kernel threads, keeping in mind that JB for the One S was published around christmas last year.
So whatever, you have to flash the stock kernel first, which is done automatically by the installer script (when s-off). After the first boot you can flash any kernel. Just a few goodies else. lol
But once up and running it's a damn good rom. With tweaks you'll really not find somwhere else.
navbar: reboot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache. Might fix it or not. Also do a fix permissions in recovery. If it still doesn't work follow the instructions above and reflash! Yeah I know - I'm funny - but honest, lol.

[Q] Flashing Pacman and Restore Problem

hi, i just tried to flash Pacman 4.4 Rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2670076 but it stopped at the animated "PACROMS loading" Screen (after flashing Rom, Gapps and rebooting).
I had Vipers 5.1 installed before. Restoring my nandroid backup it rebooted after Vipers loading Screen and stopped at the white HTC screen. :crying:
Installed new Vipers now and that worked but all my Settings are gone.
Should i try to restore my backup now again? and what could have been the Problem with the pacman Rom?
my Sensation xe is rooted, s-off, supercid and i used 4ext recovery
thanks in advance and sorry for mistakes. English is not my native language
I don't know if it helps in any way, but since cwm is kinda old (as far as I know) I'd say install latest 4ext recovery and try again.

Should i try to restore my backup now again? and what could have been the Problem with the pacman Rom?
my Sensation xe is rooted, s-off, supercid and i used 4ext recovery
thanks in advance and sorry for mistakes. English is not my native language

Hi,
try to restore backup, then don't erase nothing with a new install of Vipers5.1.0 but dont wipe anything, it maybe fix your bootloop

Jellybean firmwares use a partition called preload.....I'd say with certainty that cwm didn’t backup this partition.....you have to enable the option before you make the nandroid.....
Without the preload backup, any firmware restore will bootloop.....
Sent from my rooted, de bloated, stock JB powered S2 via PhilZ kernel and XDA developers app

could this be the reason for not restoring my backup?

It is so simple if you using 4EX.
Go to recovery>Go to tolls> at the end of page enable Smartfalsh.
Go to wipe> format data/catch and format system with out SD Card. now everything is ok.
Install new ROM and enjoy it
