[Q] CM 10.1 internal memory low - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed CM 10.1 in my GT-P3113 and it works great, I like the interface better than Samsung. But the internal memory shows up as about 4.5gb with 500mb used by apps, and about 400mb free. That doesn't sound right, I don't have very many apps, but I am having trouble downloading some of the larger games, like Asphalt7. Can I do anything to fix this? Am I missing some step, like a nand flash or format? I have a 32gb sdhc card but use it for music and videos. Don't want to start moving apps to it.

now does your device initially had 11.85 GB internal memory?
if yes, then you could free up your memory.
well, i am just sharing my experience with CM 10.1 on tab 2 but p3100(almost same as p3113, with extra calling facility). b4 flashing cm10.1 i had some 7 GB internal memory with my stock ROM(4.1.2). if i would ve flashed that stock rom again, then my internal memory would ve gone to around 10.9-11.2 GB, as it formats the device completely.
but when i flashed with CM 10.1, i had internal memory less than 7 GB now, it is just because it doesn't formats your device, but removes your installed applications. let me explain you in other way---->lets go with installing windows 7 in your PC.
if you install windows without booting by using some virtual disks or some DVD, your old programs gets stored in windows.old folder, the same happens here, its just that you are using the CM recovery as your virtual disk thing, it overwrites your systems keeping your old files(BUT NOT IN ANY SINGLE FOLDER) they are kept as it is. the apps you installed earlier with your OLD FIRMWIRE WILL NOT GET REMOVED, BUT ALSO WILL NOT WORK.
in this case the only way to get rid of this memory issue is to remember those folders where your programs get installed with yous OLD OS(firmwire) and DELETE them directly(just like deleting WINDOWS.old folder if you dont need it). well for some huge games like NFS MW or ASPHALT, dont delete those folders where it got installed previously, as these are downloaded data, so with your new firwire you just install the game with the reqd apk file and your game will run without downloading data again, if you delete them, u ve to download again. but its better if you keep a backup of such huge games in your PC)
but in the other way if you install windows from the boot using your DVD, you ve an option to format and reinstall(the formatting drive option, you ll not get if you are not booting from the CD and directly running the installer from within an OS). the same happens here too, if you flash your firmwire from the download mode, your device is completely formatted(additionally u may need to clear wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache too, from the recovery).
SO IF YOU FLASH CM 10.1 FROM THE DOWNLOAD MODE YOU CAN GET ALL YOUR MEMORY BACK, but i don't know if there is any method to install CMs or AOKPs or any custom ROM from the download mode, as these files are in zip format and not *tar.md5. so we install them from the recovery mode.
LETS SEE IF THERE IS ANY METHOD TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS VIA DOWNLOAD MODE USING ODIN DIRECTLY(but i dont think so).

[Q] Windows Mobile 6 flash and ram memory

A few days ago I got a "new" windows mobile phone in, and I decided that I would cook a rom for it myself to get all the functionality I wanted, but after testing a few of my own and other roms I've got some questions about the different memories of my phone.
- It's a Sony Ericsson Xperia x1i, but I think my questions would also apply to other windows mobile phones.
- I'm cooking and running other peoples windows mobile 6.5.3 roms
- The phone has 512MB of flash and 256MB of RAM built in.
- I'm using Twinge Kitchen 1.10 for cooking the rom and importing cab's of the apps I want to use
I've tried roms of vastly different sizes, but the storage memory always remains the same. My question is, how is the flash memory on a windows mobile device used? I'm assuming the bootloader, radio and some other things might have their own partition, and then a partition for the rom, and one partition is for storage memory. Am I correct?
If I flash my phone to a small rom will the space I save on that be wasted? Is there a way to make the free space available as storage memory?
I've tried putting all the apps I wanted to install into the rom, and that worked fine, but on first boot they installed themselves into the storage memory, so I would have been just as well off by installing them after flashing the rom. Is there a way to add apps to a rom, and have them integrated in it in such a way that they don't require further installing after flashing, just running the apps from the rom like all the regular stuff is. (this is probably done by people who know how to cook roms, but I can't find an explanation on how to do it anywhere)
I would rather cook a minimalistic rom and use the freed up space as storage memory, and then install my apps manually, that way I could uninstall them whenever I wanted. Or would having those apps intergrated into the rom save me more space because they would be compressed?
Either way I would like to know if there was a way to increase the storage space, and make the rom space smaller. I guess I would need a partition manager for windows mobile/CE that can resize without data loss, and resize the rom and storage partition with the phone running, or perhaps on the PC, with the phone connected with the USB cable and running in bootloader mode.
I have another question about RAM, my phone has 256MB RAM, but it shows as about 200MB program memory of which about 50 in use with no apps running. What is the remaining 56MB used for? Is there a way to change this amount?
I have used Windows Mobile for quite a while now, but this is the first time I've tried cooking a rom, or even thought about partitioning the built-in flash, so to the more experience people the awnsers to my questions might be obvious, but to me they are not.
I have thought of one possible way to re-partition the built-in flash, but I don't know if this can be done this way without messing anything up.
I could run Android from the sdcard, and resize the partitions on the phone-flash while in Android, but is there even an app that will let you resize those partitions in Android? Would this work without data loss, or if not would the bootloader be ok so I could flash the rom again in the newly resized partition?
I've had three WinMo 6.x devices (1 GPS and 2 phones) and both were able to have things stored on its flash memory. In fact, isn't that where the "My Documents" folder is?

Yes, but I think you are mis-understanding my questions, I don't want to just store things in it's flash memory, that's no problem. I want to resize the partitions on the flash memory, using less flash for the rom, and more available as storage space.
I have been researching further, but I keep coming up empty. I can't find any android or windows mobile app that'll even let me see the different NAND flash partitions, let alone manipulate them.
I could try and get a linux partition manager to work on android, but the more I think of it, the riskier it seems.
I've also been looking into using MTTY, but I can't find any information on what the commands are, except for tasks 28,29 and 32, and none of those will help me. I don't know if MTTY even has the capabilities to manipulate the partitioning.

[Q] Questions about creating 2nd partition on sdcard

Hi guys.
Samsung Galaxy Ace, Android 2.3.6, rooted, with several system apps uninstalled successfully using Titanium Backup.
2gb sdcard is about 3/4 full. It is only now that I'm considering making a 2nd partition.
1. If I copy EVERYTHING in the sdcard to my laptop, then create the 2nd partition, and copied everything back to the 2nd partition, will everything (i.e. my installed apps) still run smoothly as before? Or do I have to re-install everything?
2. Link2sd is compatible with stock ROM, correct?
3. If I use link2sd, are the 'links' copied to the first partition or second?
4. I don't plan on upgrading the size of my sdcard (2gb) since I'm not a heavy gamer, I have only 10 casual games, biggest of which is about 8mb, and about 10+ other small apps. The only thing that takes a big chunk of space is the map for the Sygic navigation app. So how big should each partition be (how big for 1st partition and how big for 2nd partition) for someone like me?
5. I don't plan on using custom ROMs, so is FAT32 the ideal format for me?
6. Is it necessary to flash clockworkmod Recovery?
7. If everything is working ok with link2sd, can I flash the stock recovery back?
Thanks guys!!!

HELP! Optimus 3D has no memory?

I have an Optimus 3D from Rogers (the P925g) and I wasn't able to use many roms because I didn't have the 21e baseband. I tried flashing it, after I flashed one for the P250 (which apparently would work on mine), the phone had decided that the internal memory doesn't exist now. I can mount the SD card, but both the usable memory and the space reserved for apps is missing. The phone still boots and I can access a few select apps, but I am really at a loss for how to fix this.
Any help is VERY MUCH appreciated!

You just have many data in your device. it is like to install win95, win2000 winXP and win7 in one folder on your computer
Open CWM -> go to mounts and storage
Format System
Format Data
Format Cache
DO NOT REBOOOT !!!
Install the ROM you want from ZIP file.

That's just it- I can't even access CWM anymore. I can't install ROM Manager to flash CWM because I don't have any app memory, and I can't even flash it using my computer because, again, the phone thinks there is no memory to store apps in.
Would screenshots help in this situation?
Well. Apparently, after reflashing the same thing maybe 7 different times, it has decided to work. So, thanks for anyone who looked into this. Sorry about all this too. -.-

[Q] Clean Rom 5.0 and internal vs external SD card question

Hello all,
I have a VZW Galaxy S3 and am using Scott's CleanRom 5.0
I noticed yesterday that my internal card is 2gb from being full. My external SD is a 32gb and only has a few pictures and some music on it. So I have been wandering around the phone settings trying to figure out how to move my apps to the sd card and free up some space. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks in advance.

The only app that works is link2sd, on the market. But one draw back is you need to reconfig your external sdcard to do this. Reformat and create 2 partions on your sd card, first partition should be fat32, this where you keep your stuff (music/video/pics) and the second partition is for your apps. link2sd will move your app to the second partition on your sdcard and create a reference so your OS would know where to find it.
Note: If you already have stuff on your sdcard, you can keep them by resize the first partion then create the second partion. This way you still have your data intact.

I think you are better off moving data instead of the apps. You can get your music, images, and videos and free up a lot of space (Samsung camera can default to save on external card, 4.2 Canberra doesn't have that setting as far as i can tell). Advantage of this is that even if you brick / break / wipe your phone you can still retrieve your images and music. Pop the card in a new phone and everything is still there. More than that, have titanium backup on the external card and easily transfer non-system apps to the new phone.

Let me make sure I understand correctly. The app will guide you through the partitioning process or is this something I have to do independent from the app?
Thanks in advance.

First I guess I need to explain that I still use iTunes in conjunction with Tune Sync for my music so back up isn't an issue for music. My photos are uploaded to SmugMug so they too are backed up. It just seems that my data and apps are hogging the internal SD.
I have TB Pro installed but admittedly don't know much about it yet as I have converted from the Dark Side (IOS). So, how do I get it to do what I need? Perhaps there is a tutorial somewhere on YouTube I could look up.
EDIT: I found the setting in Camera storage but no option to change it. I just says "SD Card" I assume that is internal SD?

You have to do it manually. It's pretty simple, may take around 20min. Just download the "gparted" iso image, then use imgburn to burn this image on your cd, reboot with cd as default boot device instead of your harddisk, once you booted into gpart operating system, there will be a gui you could use to partion your sdcard, first resize your existing partion, then create a new one from the unallocate partion as ext4. Remember both partion have to be PRIMARY and set the ext4 to boot (once you create the ext4, just right click, select flag then select boot).

click on the app you want to move then select "link to sd" button. Don't click on move app to sd, this is for the old GB rom only.

Thank you for all of this. I won't be able to do this until I return where I can burn the image. Looks fairly simple and I will give it a go when I return to work.
You could always plug your phone into your computer and drop and drag the files you want over to your external card.

You only can move video/music/pictures/backup files etc.. to your ext sdcard, but you cannot move your apps to external card. Your apps will stopped working. Link2sd allowed you to install all your downdoad apps to your SDcard (most of them, some apps required to stay internal, like widgets etc...)

I should have been more clear. What I suggested was just for backing up files in case the internal memory were to get wiped, example being if a new ROM was flashed with Odin, back to stock, etc. Thanks.

I did more research prior to moving them manually and found that what you just posted would have that affect. So, I still haven't done anything. My computer is old and not capable of burning a disc so I need to use a work computer but will have to do it after hours.
On a semi- related matter, since flashing CR 5.0 my settings for "Nearby Devices" is grayed out. I have been using this in conjunction with viewing photos on my TV. Any thoughts on why this might have happened? I re-flashed without success in gaining access.

I believe you need to install Allshare in order for this option to work.
Is there a way to download and install the Allshare app separately? I didn't choose it when doing the CR5.0 install. I looked on the playstore, but don't see it. I was going to re-install the ROM, but would rather just load the app if i could.
Only way I know is to flash ROM again. I don't use it. You don't have to wipe data just cache and dalvik.

Thanks for that information. I wonder if Allshare is available somewhere? Google is my friend...
This appears to be the Allshare app. It does everything the stock app did. I'll try it and report back.

Well, it was worth asking the question. I will be reflashing the ROM tonight. I just noticed a issue with what I believe would be the KindaCrap mods I installed. I removed the clock from the notification bar, and changed the battery to just a percentage, and the percentage was really slow while charging like it wasn't taking a charge. After rebooting I was near 60%, when it was showing me 20% before the reboot. I think a fresh install will be good.

[Q] After rooting and installing custom firmware, hardly internal memory on P5110

Hey there,
I finally got the courage to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P5110).
All went well. Put Odin3-v1.85_3 on it and shakatu_recovery-clockwork-unofficial-6.0.3.1-p5110.
After rooting i installed (as decribed on the webpage) a custom firwmare: cm-10.1-20130409-NIGHTLY-p5110
Everything works smooth and easy and fast (!), way faster than the stock firmware on it.
BUT: what happened to my internal memory? I only have a few apps installed (should be around 3 Gb), the same apps when i had stock firmware, but when i tried to install a game, it surprised my i had hardly any internal memory left!!!
When i go into settings and go to storage, the device calculates how much free space i got left. It shows me i have around 600 Mb left. Graphically it first shows it's almost full (grey bar), but later after indexing it shows the correct amount of free space. But the text underneath it remains around 600 Mb.
When i go into a file explorer and give it superuser rights, i can go to upper levels of the internal storage and there are loads of folders there. It seems it has something to do with the rooting or the stock firmware (backup or something)??
How can i clear more internal memory? Should I do some sort of wipe again in Clockwork Recovery??
Thanks for reply!
BTW: swapping internal and microsd card memory is not an option for me.
Below i wanted to put photos what my device shows, but i'm not allowed to do so since i'm a newbie....

i had the same problem!
but you will have to be on the stock rom, that is the original rom for your tab. Connect your tab on mass storage mode. Go to my computer, and format your tab from there. remember to make a backup of every thing. U will then have a full 12 gb free storage.
plz press thanks
Hi,
You probably still have a lot of the junk from the stock rom on the internal sd along with the data from your new rom. If you have the rom file you flashed on your external sd card. You can boot into recovery and format /sdcard to nuke almost everything. You'll have to stay in recovery after this is done and reflash the CM rom and install the apps you want from scratch to get the maximum amount of free space.

So, if my custom rom (install)file is on my external SD card, i can format my (internal)sd card? Afterwards install the custom rom again (from external sd card) and i'm ready to go.
Is that correct?
Thanks, i think it worked. At least i have all my internal memory back!
