wipe sd: ext partition- deletes your apps on your ext partiton
wipe sd: davlik-cache wipes your cache on your sd
part sd: fat32+ext2+swap makes the three partitions you need to run hero roms
parted sd: fat32 only- just partitions your memory card for a fat32 for stock roms like cyanogen
convert ext2 to ext3- does exactly what it says. makes ext2 to ext3
repair ext filesystem- do this after you choose to convert ext2 to ext3
fix apk uid mismatches- does exactly what it says
fix rotate- fixes auto rotate issues some roms have
usb mass storage on- allows you to access your fat32 part of your sd from the recovery
usb mass storage off- turns off the mounting of your sd from the recovery
to flash it using the recovery flasher app, just look at the unlockr's video and substitute the recovery image name for the one that is in the video. Voila.

lol thats very true but come on if you can't do the research to figure out the basic youll be posting another thread the next day but this time it'll be called "stuck on the g1 screen" lol sometimes not giving a straight answer may save their phone... but thats just my opinion
So use part sd: fat32+ext2+swap when useing hero rom... what if i use hero rom & go back to cyanogen can i leave it that way or do i need to parted sd: fat32 only? also if i did part sd: fat32+ext2+swap And then did part sdnly fat32 would it override the part sd: fat32+ext2+swap. another question i dont even know what ext 2 is so moving it to ext 3 would be? sorry guys im new at this.. just wanted to clarify this. is fat32 letting me store apps to sd? because i removed the sd card while phone was on & notices it froze; i put it back in removed & rrplaced battery and it was fine again.. also i noticed i part sd: fat32+ext2+swap again before i read your replies to see what it would do and everything on my sd card was goin..
also what is swap i saw an app that saved a swap file on sd..

If you are running a hero rom and want to go to cyanogen, you can leave the fat32+ext2+swap. Just make sure that you wipe your sd partition and davlik cache using the options in the recovery image. Do this every time you are flashing any new rom for that matter, whether it's a different hero rom or a stock rom.
Ext is the partition of your memory card that stores all your apps. This was necessary for the g1 because it only had like 80 mb of memory for apps. The mytouch has nearly 300 so apps2sd is not really necessary, but most custom ROMs include this anyway. Ext3 is what most of these ROMs operate on. Ext2 is an old outdated version that no one really uses anymore and ext4 is even newer than ext3 but is not really necessary.
Fat32 only does not let you store your apps on your sd. It does not have the ext partition to let that happen. I don't know why your phone froze when you took your sd card out. It shouldn't have. When you part your memory card, whether its just fat32 or the combo fat, ext, and swap your memory card gets wiped and formatted to whatever you have, so of course you will lose all your contents on the memory card. It wipes and reformats all 3 partitons, or just the one if you are doing only the fat32.
As for swap, this is necessary for hero. Hero phones have 288 mb of ram and the mytouch only has 192mb so if you don't have this, the phone lags so bad and hangs up and you get constant load screens. The app you saw is known as swapper. Yes it does put a swap file on your sd card, but if you go into advanced settings, it lets you use your swap partition of your memory card, which is what you should always choose.

ao since ext 2 is outdate we want to convert ext 2 to ext 3 then repair ext filesystemafter words.. so if you convert ext 2 to ext 3 is there only a ext 3 now or both ext 2 and it adds a ext 3? also what does dalvik mean? also i thought apps to sd was a big deal because if you switch roms all your apps are still there, but if you wipe ext partition then you lose the apps so the real reason is just for phone with low ram and cant store many apps at once.. intresting..and wats up with not wipe data/factory reset after installing roms? whats the reason behind that, i notice my IME keyboard is no longer there when i do that.. im trying to think of more questions lol. thanks a million.

if you convert ext2 to ext3, there will only be ext3. It converts it from ext2, it does not make an additional partition. Davlik cache, if I am not mistaken is all your cache from your browser to google maps gets saved to your sd card as well instead of your phone memory. The apps2sd was originally for the fact that you keep your apps, but when flashing hero roms, it did not work for some reason and it resulted in boot loops. So that's why they say always format your ext if flashing from a different rom. For stock roms, I don't believe this would be an issue so you probably could go on without wiping your sd as long as you are moving from a stock rom to another stock. It will not work if you go from stock to hero, and vice versa. Wipe data/factory reset clears all the settings from your phone so you do not have any lingering settings stored on the phone from an old rom when you flash a different one. The only time that you do not need to do this is if you are flashing a newer version of the same rom. The IME is probably still there, it just got unchecked from the input method. Go to locale and text and recheck the "input" box and it should work again.
yeah it is safest way to wipe and reformat the sd card before flashing a new rom.

Previously I got a 2GB micro-sd card. so no problem for me to move my music, photos, videos and backup apps to my pc.
But i just bought a 8GB card 2 weeks ago and man, backup all before flashing a rom is pain in the a** . but can't help flashing this and that ROMs hee hee
so no choice. yesterday I flashed Eugene's supermagic rom. awesome!

so when going to another rom should you part the sd before or after the rom is loaded? and honestly im running out of questions.. i got one that is throwing me off.. i have my phone in fastboot and in device manager it show andriod bootloader (cant remember the exact device); i type in the cmd
cd desktop
cd fastboot
then the code for the custom splash and i get
< waiting for device > and it just sits there. nothing will happen. & my splash is still stock.. the file is at the rights bytes and i have the folder on my cd on the desktop and the driver i beleive is installed correctly on the cp. what am i doing wrong?

Part the sd before you load the rom onto the phone. if it has apps2sd and you try to part your memory card after, you will get stuck at the splash more than likely because you are missing key components that are stored onto the sd, like all your apps for example that come with the ROM.
In fastboot, when it's plugged in, on the phone does it say "Fastboot USB"?
You might want to try to reupload the drivers for the fastboot. That may be why it's hanging. I never use fastboot through the desktop. I always use fastboot through the SDK folder on my C:\ drive. It always worked for me that way. For some reason I could never get it to work with the "cd destop" but thats just me.

i figured taht was the right order part sd then load rom because i did it and it worked lol, and since it worked i never tried it rom the part sd. so do cyanogen roms have app2sd? and does the cyanogen rom have a overclocker built in now because i tried to use my overclock widget and it doesnt work and the phone seems as if its running faster even with out my widget..
and yes it says fastboot usb & ive tried uninstalling & reinstall the drivers mutliple times and still get < waiting for device > so if i do it on the c:/ drive were do i place the fastboot folder? /c:/fastboot? and what would the code be?

one really dumb question. i rooted my pops mytouch lol because he was complaining about the mytouch stock because of numerous things. so i rooted it to 4.2.2 and out of all things he is now complaining about the stock ringtones.. lol. anyone know where to get the stock ringtones? if not its cool i told him id make sum ringers with ringdroid for him like the temptations and willie nelson lol.. thanks all for your support.

Cyanogen's rom has dynamic apps2sd. If it senses that you have a partition, it will do apps2sd. If you don't have an ext, it will save it to the phone, so it will work that way too.
For the fastboot, do you even have your computer set up for the use of ADB and fastboot? Like having the latest SDK downloaded and set up for your computer? That might be why it says, waiting for devices. When you do cd fastboot, afterward type fastboot devices and see if in the cmd it says "HTC Bootloader" or "Android Bootloader" I am not sure which one it is.
As for the ringtones, here is the link for the download in Cyanogen's 4.2.2 threat http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/audio-resources.zip That downloads a zip of all the stock ringtones. Just upzip the file and place it on the root of your sd card.

thats good to know. so if you ext 2 will cm use ext 2 & if you converted it will it use ext 3? also how can i tell what i have ext 2 or ext 3 other than knowing if i click convert to ext 3? i downloaded the SDK and used the usb folder when the computer was looking for drivers & it says it installed drivers successfully; so now when im in fastboot usb on my phone the computer in device manager shows bootloader (cant remember exactly what it says untill i get home); & when my phone is in recovery the driver shows ADB (cant remember the exact name till i get home also); and then i do the codes because my fastboot & sdk folders are on my desktop; when i downloaded the sdk folder i dont think i did anything with it as far as isntalling it, what does the sdk folder do? lol. sorry..

I don't think any builds use ext2 anymore. They all either use ext3 or ext4. You have to make an ext2 first though, before you can convert it to ext3. Same goes for ext4, you have to have ext3 before you can upconvert to it. Just use ext3 just to be safe. If you go into "Parted" through the recovery image by typing in "parted /dev/block/mmcblk0" in adb shell, then typing 'print' it will show how big your fat32 is, it'll say which ext you have as well as your size, and the same for linux swap.
For a SDK, the folder stores the drivers needed for fastboot and adb in it. You should save it to the root of your C:\ drive because it makes things easier. I recommend you set up SDK using this thread guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
Setting up the Android 1.5r2 SDK
Download the file from above
Unzip to your desktop
Take the "android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2" folder and move it to the root of your hard drive (C:\)
Right click on My Computer and click properties
Select the Advanced Tab or Advanced System Setting (Vista)
Select Environment Variables...
Press New
For Variable Name type: adb
For Variable Value type: C:\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2\tools

Preparing your phone for ADB
Go to Settings on your phone
Select Applications
Select Development
Make sure 'USB Debugging' is checked

Installing Drivers
Plug in your phone through USB and DO NOT MOUNT IT!!!!!
Your computer should see a new device and try to install Android 1.0 driver (If it doesnt, scroll down to the "Im not getting a notification of Android ADB when i plug in my USB" section)
Let it load
Once it cant find them select "Install drivers from my pc"
The drivers you need are in the Android SDK 1.5r2 folder (C:\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2\usb_driver)
Depending on your OS pick x86 or amd64
You ADB Android Device should now be installed! Good Job

Don't mean to hijack your thread OP, but I do have a question that I hope someone can answer. When partitioning the SD card, you choose the option I put in Bold. After that, could you use this link:

To adjust the different sizes of the 3 partitions? I know that in order to run any Hero ROMS, your SD card has to be partitioned with at least 3 (fat32+ext2+swap) parts. This is the only part that still confuses me when it comes to adequately rooting.
If you are using ubuntu, you create the partitions you want, as well as the size. If you use the recovery image, you would just be adding an unnecessary step because it will just get deleted when you make your partitions again with Ubuntu.

So if u have a ext 3 how do u get ext 4? Also wat is linux swap? And yea i didnt do all that im sure thats why i was getting < waiting for device >. I will let u know the outcome of the splash screen... thanx.

If you want ext3, you have to go into parted like I stated in a previous post and create your partitions that way. From there, to upgrade to ext3, you type "upgrade_fs". You now have ext3. If you want ext 4, after that you would type
"tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
e2fsck -fpDC0 /dev/block/mmcblk0p2"

Linux swap, I believe I explained in one of my early posts. The mytouch only has 192 mb of ram. The Hero's have 288 and so do the 32A board Sapphire phones like the HTC Magic and the Rogers Magic. Since we were unfortunate to get that low of Ram, if you try to run a hero rom without the linux partition, the phone will lag, freeze, and get load screens constantly. Using a linux swap partition makes it possible to run the Hero ROM's at a decent speed, though it will not be as fast as if you had the actual HTC Hero phone or a 32A Sapphire.
I got a new LG P999 (I think that's the G2X). I'm new to Android but I'm not sure if I should root/mod or not.
Is there really any significant benefits from modding (like speed or stability) or it's just to make your Android flashier?
Also, what mod would be best to go for? And if someone could link me to a beginner tutorial on how to mod (with simpler terminology; I only found some with terminology like NANDroid, clockwork recovery, etc... which I don't really understand), that would be much appreciated.

Well, rooting/modding gives you every benefit out there. Battery life, speed, options, features, the list goes on. Flashing ROM's is basically 99% the reason why people root or install a custom recovery on their phones. NANdroid, Clockwork MOD, etc are basically the basis and the stuff that you need to know about rooting. Since you're new I suggest you read a lot first and get to know what those terminologies are. ClockWork is a custom recovery that enables you to flash a custom ROM onto your phone.
Here is the G2x Bible. That's a reference guide to most, if not everything, that you need to know.
Here is the NVFlash method that you need to do to install Clockwork onto your G2x. You don't really need root for the G2x, just install Clockwork via that guide and you'll be good to go.
Remember: Read, read, and read.

1) If I don't have an external SD card, will I be able to put an external SD card without problems later? And can I re-flash for the external SD card support if desired?
2) Once I'm in the ClockworkMod Recovery, how do I put the ROM on my phone? (Flash is the correct terminology if I'm not mistaken).
3) Which ROM or mod should I go with? From the looks of it, a lot of people use CyanogenMod, but is there one that's most stable/fast?

These are my 3 favorite ROM's. And I'm sure most of the G2x people would agree as well.
Eagle's Blood: Based on LG's stock 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
Weapon G2x: Again, based on LG's stock 2.3.3 Gingerbread, but with Whitehawx's many tweaks and features.
And of course, CyanogenMOD 7 Nightlies: It's based on Google's AOSP, but the CM team has added in hundreds of tweaks that makes the user experience the best you can ever get on Android.
My favorite is CM but I suggest you try all 3 to see which one you like the best.
Yes, you can slip in an SD card after you've flashed if you want. Just follow the instructions carefully on how to NVFlash, there's even a YouTube video on how to do it.
Once you're in CWM, I suggest you do a NANDroid backup to backup your current ROM. Then do the following steps.
1. Wipe Data
2. Wipe Cache
3. Wipe Dalvik Cache (within Advanced)
4. Then go into mounts and format your /system
5. Then proceed to flashing your desired ROM.
Here's a quick video on how to flash a ROM.
But note; that video is how to flash a ROM on a myTouch 4G, just ignore the ROM's I showed in that video as it's for the MT4G. But the Clockwork MOD that you see there is just like the one for the G2x, except now the letters are blue. Do as I did in that video by wiping everything. Only thing I left out is formating /system since it wasn't needed on the MT4G. So don't forget to do that on your G2x.

To answer your question, I'm currently running Froyo and I'm not actually with T-Mobile. I'm in Quebec with Videotron but I read it's the same phone. The phone model I have is LG P999DW.
I think I'll go with CM V7.1.0.1 as my first ROM (the nightlies may not be as stable as I want them to be). Do you think that would be an okay ROM as a first?
So just to confirm, this is what I will be doing as a whole process:
First, I will follow the NVFlashing guide which will allow me to use ClockworkMod Recovery. Next, I'll do a backup with NANDroid (which I assume is an option in CWM). Following that, I follow the wiping steps you listed (same as your video). Is that correct or am I missing something?

EDIT: So I followed the NVFlash steps and it worked fine until I tried to boot in Recover by holding Vol Down + Power, but it doesn't seem to do anything... I can boot up the phone fine normally by holding the power button though. Is there a reason booting into recovery wouldn't work?
EDIT 2: Ah, nevermind. It works after I took out the battery and tried again.
EDIT 3: I haven't wiped my data yet in the recovery, but it seems I need an SD card so I can load the zip of the ROM I want. Is there a way to load the ROM from my computer or will I need to get an SD card first? Also, I would like to know if I should root as well? Does it make a difference? If not, why do people root before flashing?
Do you mind making a video of all the steps you did in exact order? also people root because most phones just use ROM manager to flash clockworkmod right from ROM Manger, but we are using NVFlash so we dont technically need it. Also new to the G2x, from (wind Mobile, i believe its the same one as the videotron P999-DW)

Well, I can't make a video of what I did since I don't have a spare camera. All I did up until now is follow the NVFlashing guide to get ClockworkMod Recovery. It's not very hard to do actually.
I'm apparently supposed to wipe data, etc. now but I don't want to do that because steps later say that I need to flash from the SD card which I don't have. So I need to know now whether I need an SD card to flash a ROM on the phone? I've ordered an SD card which might take a while to get but after I get it, I also would like to know whether I need to root to flash? (since ROM manager says I need to root to use it, maybe I need to root to flash a ROM via CWM as well?)
I downloaded ROM manager and it says I need to root my phone for it to function. I also tried "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" via the ROM manager which gives me an error as well.
So if someone could let me know whether 1) I can flash without an SD card and 2) whether I need to root to flash via CWM, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
The newest version of CWM Recovery requires a physical SD to put the rom backups on. Go get yourself one. The smaller capacities are very inexpensive now, but it is nice to have a larger one if you can afford it. Each backup is very large, so a small card would run out of space quickly if you don't offload them to your computer or another storage medium. If you want to backup to the internal sd then install the older version (4.0.1.5) of CWM that support internal sd only, then you don't need a physical sd card. That is why TGA_Gunnman put that version back into his flasher.
With the latest CWM and a g2x and NO sd card, I was able to root, and flash roms. Just select the flash zip from internal SD option in CWM. I did not backup though.

Wouldn't the flash zip be deleted after you wipe the data, etc.?

No just place it in the root.

So you're saying that if I place the ROM on the root of the phone, it won't be deleted once I wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and format my /system?
I would just like to make sure as I don't want to be stuck without a phone until I get an SD card and no backup.

If you were factory resetting a Samsung the internal SD is also wiped; but thankfully, LG does not do that. When you do a factory reset on the P999 all it does is wipe the data and cache partitions. The internal sd is left alone. So yes you can place the zip package on the internal sd, reset and then flash it. It also doesn't have to be on the root. In CWM if you select install zip from sd card, you can then choose external or internal sd and navigate to any folder and zip file you want to flash. Have fun!
I was able to install the old CWM with internal SD card support and I used that to make a backup and flash the ROM successfully. Everything seems to be awesome so far except that I can't use USB mass storage from the O/S. I turn on USB mass storage and my computer doesn't detect it. The only way to make it work is going to CWM and mounting the USB. Anyone know how I would be able to make it work through the O/S again?
I also can't install Swype without an external SD card, but I'll have one soon so that's not a big worry.
Aside from those things, I think it's pretty cool.

Yeah, it's awesome. But anyone know why USB mass storage doesn't show the removable drive on my computer? I have to go into CWM and mount it to make it work, but I would prefer to be able to do it via the O/S.

It doesn't seem to work. I installed the drivers via the download link in the link you provided. Didn't work, then I tried to update following the instructions using the LG mobile support tool, and it still doesn't work either. (I've tried on 2 computers btw.)
I'm not sure why it only works via CWM, any other suggestions?

Could be USB connection type is set wrong internally. See if there is some setting in CM7 for it. On a stock rom you can go into LG Hidden menu and set USB to automatic.
Hi guys, i'm in desperate need of your help. i think my precious o3d might have been screwed.
first let me tell you what i did. as you know the internal sd card of o3d is 5gb or so and it fills up very quickly. this internal sd card is mounted as /sdcard. i have a class 10 16gb micro sd card and when i insert it, its automatically mounted as /sdcard/_ExternalSD. The applications or games, especially the ones that have external data folders which are like 1gb in size insists to be installed on /sdcard. You can't move those data folders to _ExternalSD, because then the apps doesn't work.
Then i came across this topic:

As you can see that was exactly what i needed. I had CWM 5.0.2.0 installed so i downloaded the first .zip then copied all of the files and folders excluding the _ExternalSD folder to the external sd card then rebooted into recovery. From there i flashed the zip and rebooted again. phone booted up and all was ok and it worked. now the phone sees the external sd card as the internal one and the internal sd card was mounted as /sdcard/_ExternalSD. I then formatted the internal sd card from the settings menu because i already copied all of the stuff there to the external card. It worked fine and the internal card is formatted. After that i decided to get a nandroid backup so i opened the rom toolbox program. From the menus i selected the backup option, gave it a name, clicked ok. the phone rebooted into cwm recovery screen but nothing happened. then i noticed something was not right because there was some error lines under the cwm menus saying "E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/command" etc. Then i selected the reboot phone option but the phone rebooted right back into the CWM recovery again!! At that point i knew that i was @#?^ed.
Anyways i researched a lot and came across this thread:

i did exactly what he said and it worked, i mean it flashed nicely. then i rebooted the phone but it booted into the recovery again!!! But this time the CWM recovery was gone and i believe this is the stock recovery screen. I can browse the menu of it and make selections but the phone boots into the recovery every time it reboots.
The recovery screen looks like this:

Then i flashed the phone to the latest official firmware V21A_00, it flashed nicely but it still boots right into the recovery everytime.
Then i installed the Android SDK and tried to push the original vold.fstab file to the system using the adb command line tool but it doesn't see the phone. I think adb works only when the system boots up normally, not in the recovery mode.
I don't know if there's a way to install the CWM from the stock recovery somehow. If you know how, please tell. The CWM has more options.
I don't know what else i can do. It started to look ridiculous. If there are any experts cool enough to help please do so. I'll be waiting. Thank you...

I starts just fine but get's stuck on the "RESET" command, after a while it gives "DOWNLOAD FAIL!" error. I think the phone is supposed to restart automatically but it doesn't. Manually resetting the phone doesn't work either.

This is strange, usually a kdz flash coupled with a format fixes the problem.
Some how it still can't find the internal SD card.

Hopefully someone else on this forum can suggest a way for you to unbrick.
your problem is although you have reset your phone, somehow it can't find a partition to boot from.
or
somehow the KDZ flashing is not totally successful.

If only there could be a way to be able to use the adb command from the Android SDK then i might be able to restore the vold.fstab file to its original, if the problem is that at all. Maybe then it'll work. To be able to flash the CWM Recovery again somehow might be a good thing too because it has more options like flashing .zip format roms but i have no idea how. Does anyone know if the stock recovery can flash some specifically named file to the system, does it have that kind of functionality? I'm desperate, please share your thoughts.

I am sorry to say that but there is no solution for this problem yet. I have done the exact thing that you do and tried every single solution with no luck. The only way is to send it to lg repair service. My solution was to replace the mainboard.

well if you didn't apply the swap fix, it wouldn't be a problem to format. When you swap the sd cards and format, it is the problem.

replacing the motherboard to fix this seems to be a bit nonsense to me to be honest. what does the partition table have anything to do with the motherboard?
if only there would be a .kdz format custom rom which factory resets the internal sd card during the flash process and maybe fixes the bootloader somehow, that might be the solution.

i don't know what the emmc is, i need to do research on that. but i still think that replacing the motherboard won't solve this issue because it seems non relevant to me. i messed up with the vold.fstab file. but after that it worked fine. i mean the internal and external cards swapped just fine. only after i decided to make a nandroid backup using rom toolbox all hell broke loose. i plan to wait a couple of days before turning the phone to LG service. i believe someone will come up with an idea.

Well, there´s a new recovery for the O3D, v5.0.2.7 (I got it with ROM Manager).
It fixes 2 bugs of the previous (5.0.2.0) version: now the USB mass storage option in the mounts menu works (mount external SDCARD), and we can use ADB while in recovery. That way we can fix stuff in the phone filesystem while in recovery: we can now use ADB shell, or ADB push to replace files.
The problem is that I don´t know how to flash it to the phone while in the stock recovery. If someone can guide me on creating a signed ZIP containing this new recovery, flashable in the stock recovery, I would be glad to do that and post it here. I think these phones of you guys can be fixed using this method!

Great news! But now i need to find a way to install the new CWM. Just as you said i believe what i need is to find or make a .kdz update which includes this new CWM.

I know this is possible, at least for the Galaxy Ace: I have a ZIP file for this device with a custom recovery image, flashable in stock recovery!
To make one for the Optimus 3D, I need to know the following:
- How can I obtain the .IMG of the new recovery? I have found some temp files in clockworkmod folder in my sdcard. The creation date of one of them matches the exact moment I upgraded my recovery, and the file size also matches a recovery image: 5.54MB. Is it the recovery image? Can I just rename it to recovery.img? How can I extract it to ensure it´s ok?
- After I get the recovery image, I can use the Galaxy Ace ZIP as the base to build the O3D zip file. Any help on what do I have to change to make it work correctly?

First off let me say thank you for all the information always found on your forums, however I've run into a snag with my phone (HTC EVO Shift 4g) and need some help. I was doing a factory reset of my device using the tool in the Clockwork Mod Recovery (v5.0.2.0) and I went to wipe some additional data off my SD card, and inadvertently chose to format the /system, and pretty much every directory in the storage menu, which I later realized I probably shouldn't have done as now I can't get my phone to boot. Where the snag falls into here, I had made a backup of all my data on my SD card but have misplaced my full backup made through the clockwork mod. When I try booting my phone it simply comes up with the white boot screen with the "htc" logo in green. I have tried about everything I could possibly think of to get my shift working again, since it won't fully boot, the only option I've been able to try have been trying to get a ROM to install from a .zip, but I keep running into errors, did I manage to wipe out some sort of critical data when I did those formats?? Any help you guys can offer me will be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thank you in advance for your expertise and input on this.
NOTE: I have tried to download one of the STOCK RUU's that you guys have posted, I have yet to find one that will actually download or resolve my issue!
Sounds like you wiped and formatted everything.. Including your sd card.
Download a ROM to your pc - In clockwork go to mounts and storage - plug your phone into your pc and select mount usb. Transfer the ROM onto your sd card, unmounted your sd, wipe then flash.

Alright man all that happened was when you hit format system, you wiped the ROM from the phone, so download any ROM of choice go into recovery then mount as a storage device and transfer the ROM to the SD card, unmount then format system,data,cache and dalvik cache and flash the ROM and you will be fine

Can you boot into clock work recovery? That's all you need.
I have seemingly successfully installed CM10. However, all of the internal SD folders from my prior stock 4.0.4 install are still there. I want a nice, clean and fresh install and want all junk from the previous stock version gone, but I don't know what's new and what's old. If there is a way to formate/wipe everything, then it seems that that would also delete the new system files as well as as the CM10 Rom zip, thereby making it impossible to reinstall.
Insights and suggestions on this matter greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Make sure you format /system as well as cache and factory reset. Do it twice if it will make you feel better.
You most likely just did a factory reset which leaves a bunch of trash behind.

I seem to have answered the last part of my of my inquiry. In CWM 5.5.0.4, I formatted data, system, cache, emmc, sd card. I can now only access recovery mode or download mode. In recovery mode, I obviously can't flash CM10 from the internal SD because I formatted/deleted it! When I get home, I'll try flashing CWM 6.0.1.0 in Odin and then flashing CM10 through the external SD card. If that doesn't work, then I'll have to flash the stock ROM.

Tried it the way outlined above and I now have a nice, clean install CM10!
Next time don't format emmc and sdcard.
For me i delete the files manually using Astro file manager or using a computer and use free app called (sd maid) in google play to remove more and do more cleaning of internal sd card it searches for app remains and empty directories etc all that after flashing the rom immediately before restoring my apps
Not bad but if anybody could find a better solution post it
