I ask this because I never owned a LG device until now. I just never gave them a chance because they were never in my opinion the "smartphone" type. Aside from all the "issues", how do you feel about the device as a whole(build quality etc)?

I've never owned an LG device either. However I am surprised at the performance of the phone (seeing as froyo doesnt support dual core) and even more surprised at how well the battery life is.
Not really. I have an LG TV and I love it. I know Samsung and LG are the few that actually make the screens and such so your buying either a Samsung or LG screen regardless of phone (I think HTC uses LG screens)
But I owned an LG before which had Symbian on it. Phone was great but Symbian wasn't. I came from Windows Mobile and I quickly went back to Windows Mobile, before migrating to Android.
Actually yes! I thought about waiting for the Sensation because I love HTC.
Same here most of LGs US phones are low end so I never bought one. I've been an HTC fan for a while, last three phones were HTC I'm pleasantly surprised but this phone though.

Like the hardware and accessories. Despise the software. Unfortunately, the software has to work to truly appreciate the hardware.
I returned an LG TV less than a year ago, simply because I got a better price on a better Sony. I also have an LG computer monitor that has been rock solid for several years now. We have fancy LG appliances as well, a fridge and washer dryer, they are both way more bells and whistle equipped than I believe they should be... but the GF loves 'em
As for this phone, while I love the concept and the solid feel, the jury is still out on whether or not I like the phone. I still have a week left of my 14 days...
The phone is nice I guess but the software and horribly annoying issues make me hate this damn thing. Just hoping a decent CM7 build gets released before my 14 days are up so I can test this phone out before deciding to keep it or go back to HTC which I love.

I love my phone.
Never had a lg device before...
I dont want the sensation, and I dont want another samsung at the moment... Trying new things out and I must say I'm impressed.
No issues and had for over 2 weeks... No reboots, slight bleed but it wouldn't bother me either way....
Best phone I ever had. Ive had htcs, samsung, and now lg..
So fari like my lg the best ...

are you having any issues downloading within a browser? i find myself having to switch browsers or wifi to 4g to try and download. i get unsucessful or waiting for data connection very often.
I am very surprised with this device. I was very reluctant at first to get an Lg phone. I too did not want to get a Samsung phone this time around. This is the by far the best Android experience that I've had since owning the original G1, and then the Vibrant. Even running the Vibrant overclocked, with custom roms doesn't compare to this.

Hi all, I just wanted to post a quick question. I'm looking to upgrade from my sad Kyocera Zio M6000 to a top of the line, best in the market, Android smart phone. I thought I was going to get the HTC Thunderbolt until I spoke with my sister who works for Verizon and she said to hold off because it's having issues right now with switching from 3G to 4G. So I wanted to check here and see what you all think right now is the best, top of the line android smart phone out there. The most powerful, can handle -ANY- games out on the market, can record HD video, has 2 way camera, all the bells and whistles and is going to last me liekly years before I even think about getting a new one. I made a mistake getting my Zio and I've been regretting it for 10 months now and I don't want to make that mistake again. I plan to play game son it, watch movies,.. everything on it .. I appreciate all your responses and thank you for your time! REason I posted here is because I want the new phoen to be able to run any app and play any game flawlessly
-Seabhac
WAIT, I must say, when it comes to a phone and games Samsung has the best hardware but horrible software support (updates). As of now, hTc is behind the game. So far they haven't released any phones that even get close to competing with the Galaxy S II. Wait for a better Galaxy S to get on Verizon and GO. The Fascinate just doesn't get the job done either.
Droid Charge? It has literally everything you have mentioned. I personally would choose the Nexus S or HTC Sensation when it comes out. Droid Bionic will also have everything you are asking for and the Atrix 4G also seems pretty future proof.
Atrix is fine but motorola doesn't seem to provide OS-Updates in a serious manner.
I'd head for Nexus S. Strong hardware and probably quiet fast updates to ice cream and beyond.
Nevertheless I love my defy and wouldn't change for a nexus S but I'm not a gamer
Appreciate the answers but let me qualify this a step further,.. I want to replace it in the near future like this week or the next so of the ones out -now- which is the most powerful? I'm starting to think I might have to go iphone 4 but I really would prefer not to go that proprietary! lol

What are everyone's opinions of the HTC Thunderbolt? I keep considering that one as well due to the fact it seems to be the top of the line right now from Verizon.
Try LG Optimus 2X.... Dual-core with Nvidia Tegra!! Should be the most powerful one available in the market for now... gsmarena.com for more info...
Well truthfully it depends on which carrier your going to go with. As of right now T-Mobile has the G2X which is an Nvidia Tegra Dual Core Device and I believe it has Full Root now at least it looked close to it when I checked in on that forum on here a week or so back. Also most Android phones can be overclocked so look through the forums at the newer devices and see what they are doing there and how active it is and that will give you a better idea of what to go for considering the devices that are good and will get updates faster than stock tend to be the one's with the best reputation and like I said updated before stock. I personally have the T-Mobile G2 and the MyTouch 4g both Rooted and Both with Custom Roms and also Both Overclocked and running Gingerbread which is not released for Either phone Officially and I have yet to have issues running any games and don't get much screen delay at all on either of them. The G2X fyi is the American version of the LG Optimus 2X.
Xperia PLay Would be great..you will hav a big screen with PlayStation And Android Support in one device...
Nexus Prime!
just wait for the nexus prime!!!
just a week!!
Optimus 2x
Yes i love my Optimus 2x with Thanatos 4.1 custom overclocked 1400mhz dual-core rom so much that i bielieve it is the best for gaming.....
I have never try anything else xD
Hey guys,
As we all probably know, most of us are not happy with motorola's product the XT720 and some of us are stuck with it just because we paid so much for the phone. The locked bootloader and poor support are just a few reasons to hate moto.
I'm interested in knowing what your next device would most probably be when eventually you want to move on and ditch motorola. For me it'd most likely be either a google product or something from the samsung range. Unlocked boatloaders, great support and constant updates + powerful hardware. Please enlighten me!
too early for me to say for sure as i dont have plans to get anything new anytime soon, but: 1: not motorola 2: probably either a SE device as i love how they look and they seem sincere in their support for their devices or a nexus line. all subject to change of course
In October, I can get me a new mobile (I can extend my contract). If nothing better comes in, then I will choose one of the following devices:
-Motorola Atrix
-Motorola Milestone 3
-HP Pre 3 (yeah, WebOS fascinates me )

While we're considering other OSs I'm intrigued by the Nokia WP7 device. WP7 actually looks very attractive, smooth and fluid - I just worry I would get bored of it after a little bit to be honest. WebOS has some nice features but I'm concerned about lack of apps and support for it and also it doesn't look as attractive as Android or WP7 to me.

MS3? When it will be...
For me: new nexus from google... maybe.
As i can say: NO, NO,NO to htc and moto.
Everyone else.. maybe..
My contract is also expiring next month, so I'm looking for new handset already. So, what's in my mind???
1. Motorola Atrix
Ya, most of you will said no more Motocrap. I always like Moto's hardware quality. So, if and only if they unlock the bootloader and it is possible to install custom roms like CM7, then I would take it. (There is already a leaked rom with unlocked bootloader. Everything is working except it's just not official update)
2. LG Optimus Black
This slim and shady guy is very slim and light-weighted. And truly it is a hacker's phone. Nothing is locked down. opened booloader, open NAND, now CM7 is already on the way to this phone. The problem is, LG's hardware quality is crap. And I also have doubt that this one would qualify.
3. Samsung Galaxy S II
Like it very very much. It has been a dreamed phone for me recently. But it's a bit pricy. S$348 with 2 years contract @ Starhub. Unless they give me a $200 discount voucher, I won't buy this phone.
4. Google Nexus S
If the 3 above is not applicable, this guy will be mine. No SD slot but 16Gb of NAND drive is more than enough for me. Though one this is still bugging me, no HDMI output. hmmm
guys, let me hear your suggestion. which one shall I take?
Just checked out the ATRIX. Wow, lol I want one. Its uncanny how even after the XT720 motorola continues to seduce me...haha
Well I got the XT720 because of the Xenon flash.
Not many phones out there with a Xenon.. may have to switch to another OS whilst I wait for an Android device with Xenon.
Definitely iPhone

if you like the galaxy s2 so much, you could always cross the border and buy it there, its only RM2099 (around SGD854) compared to SGD998, or wait for the cheaper galaxy Z (Tegra2/SLCD/5mp)..
Optimus Black and Nexus S is not in the same league as Atrix and SGS2, so those should not be compared directly..

The app cataloque on WebOS has about 4600 apps at the moment including Angry Birds. So yeah, not as much as Android yet, but it's definetly a lot and it will get more once the HP Touchpad comes out later this month
And lack of support? WebOS get updates every 6 weeks or so and upgrades when an upgrade is ready (most of the time, that is).
Looks like the LG x3 will come to the US as the T-Mobile G4x, much like the LG x2 came over as the T-Mobile G2x. Now, I'm excited about the phone, but am extremely cautious with my expectations. The G2x was a calamity and if it wasn't
for XDA I would have dumped T-Mobile. Today, this is the best phone ever (thanks to Hell's ICS rom) I consistently out perform my friends Galaxy SII's and Galaxy Nexus' (Granted I'm OC'd to 1.4Ghz vs their stock, but hey, that's why I'm on XDA and they are just sheeple phone buyers).
I remember preliminary reviews on the G2x giving it glowing reviews, but when it got to the consumers hands, it was a disaster. I don't think the people who did the reviews know exactly what the definition of review means. When I saw video reviews, the phone had no customer Icons or apps and it looked like someone played with it for about an hour than made a review of it, which would explain the glowing reviews the G2x got from 99% of the "professional" review sites out there.
Me, I want the G4x, I thrive to have a phone with the power of my Transformer Prime, but not with the headaches the G2x started with. I'll read a real reviews posted on XDA or other android forums for 2 months after launch before taking the leap. And hey, with ICS running so fantastically on the G2x, I could wait for T-mo to give a G4x for free on contract renewal.
Just wondering how other G2x owners feel about the G4x? I was considering going with the HTC Tegra 3 phone (The Sensation is getting ICS officially, while LG leaves the G2x dead in the water, thank goodness for community support), due to LG's terrible support of the G2x. Another consideration was to wait for the Krait based phones. Anand did a write up on the architecture and it looks like that Dual-Core can give the Quad-Core Tegra 3 a run for its money. Hey, at least this comes with the latest Android OS, not one 2 versions old (I still can't believe the G2x shipped with Froyo....shudder....)
Thanks for reading, have an excellent day!!!
http://androidandme.com/2012/02/sma...-smartphone-in-the-us-with-stock-android-4-0/
this might be a dumb question, but whatever happened to the g3 or whatever? did they just skip over that product line? whatever happened to consistency?
I'm not really excited for it. Tegra chips have always been overrated IMO. The Snapdragon Krait processors are already said to perform better on lower levels of energy than the Tegra 3. Even the upcoming dual core Ti-OMAP's and Exynos' are said to perform better than the quad core Tegra.
Plus it's going to be closed source again so devs will have their problems.
So to me, good phone, well built, nice hardware and software, but the closed source is what will make me look elsewhere.
Phone looks decent. At this point in time phone hardware is to the point where pretty much any high end phone will get the job done just as good or slightly (not noticably in real world use) better than its competitors. It will come down phone design, screen size, and software support for me. I'm not going count LG out as this was my first LG phone. The Vibrant was my first Android phone and while Samsung was horrible with support for that phone they seem to have learned from it and are making an effort to do better. No reason the same cant happen with LG.

Actually ICS is coming to the G2x from LG in the 3rd quarter. Knowing how slow LG is, I'm guessing that'll be pushed back to 4th quarter. Still though, LG isn't abandoning us, instead they're just incompetent.

Is it me or is there something off about LG. The quality, no matter how good the specs are, just seems mediocre. Back in the day, I used to have an LG Chocolate and while it looked great, it was a piece of crap. Since then I never bought anything LG again. When the g2x came out I decided its been long enough and gave LG another chance. The g2x turned out to have as many annoying problems as the chocolate.
I am done with LG for good now. Fool me once shame on you , fool me twice shame on me.

My resentment for LG has nothing to do with the developers. CM7 is the best thing that could have happened for my G2X. I was VERY close to ditching the phone until I came across the CM7 rom. With the CM7 Nightly 224 + Trinity kernel, my phone is usable once again. I still have to reboot my phone daily so that I can get working email and such (networking seems to hang if not rebooted daily). I can live with that.
As of now I'm happy with my G2x and LG. Number one I'm a brand loyalty kind of guy. I say that to say this I have no regrets with LG, so I'm really looking at continuing our partnership with the G4x.

It might just come bone stock like the G2X did. The optimus 2x has an ugly skin overlay and we got it stock-ish.
It will more than likely be stock android but TBH I wouldn't mind this new UI I kind of like it
One of the reasons I went with this phone roughly 22 months ago was that it was expected to get updates to Android very quickly, since it didn't have Sense or some other heavy overlay.
Funny, huh? Since it ended up one of the WORST phones I could have picked for any real updates. Ahh, the irony.
Anyone else do the same thing? I honestly can't wait to chuck this thing, and now that it's down to $50 per line to get out of my contract 2 months early, I'm very tempted to do so and pick up a Droid DNA on Verizon or some other powerhouse.
It's not worth getting any android phone that isn't Nexus or has a huge HUGE base (galaxy s3). I wouldn't trust the DROID DNA, honestly. Verizon can really suck with updates, too.
Don't make the same mistake again.

You should wait for May at least to see what Google rolls out, whether it is the moto X phone or something else. Also Id be surprised why you would do verizon and agree to pay prob at least $30 more per month when you can stick with Tmo or go simple talk with an unlocked GSM phone.
I got his phone for two reasons.
1. Because it was vanilla.
2. As soon as I heard nvidia was making tegra I checked everyday for news on the it's release.
Yes I waited a long ass time and nvidia didnt put out a tegra till they came out with tegra 2.
But I'm still happy with this phone.
Go to any phone thread, they all say the same thing.
"worst phone ever"
"worst company ever"
People are never happy.
This phone competes with phones coming out today with a proper stable ROM and I think that is great.
No it doesn't compete with phones coming out today. Don't try to ignore the truth.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Overclocked to 1.55 ghz with the supercharger on aggressive, it performs well. I can do anything any new phone can do! (except take good pictures, camera became ****)
I also remember watching a promo video by LG on Tmo website claiming "pure vanilla Android experience." That along with the G2x name - hinting at G1 roots- and other factors (dual core, Tegra, etc.) falsely presumed timely updates or at least easy ROM updating. I came from the pure vanilla original Droid. I wanted the same experience. Boy did I make the same huge ironic mistake. Trouble is, this is the phone I switched my wife off her iPhone for. Disappointing at best.
True, there are some great devs who have made this phone passable. Unfortunately, TEGRA/nvidia had their hands cuffed and LG won't supply them with a key. Tmo is an enabler in the whole debacle.
Besides, even though I always will root my phone, one shouldn't have to for reliable functionality.
I think the only Android phone I will ever buy is a Nexus. Wait,I can't even buy an effing Nexus! LG should allow special Nexus purchasing concessions for all g2x owners. It might help me get rid of this nasty taste in my mouth
Now this phone is to old and too forgotten to have any hope. If you love this phone, great. But, my etudes phone is still completely stock. If you haven't driven a completely stock g2x lately. Try it. It is a pathetic sluggish joke that might be funny if it didn't freeze up during the performance all day long.

You forgot to note that its horrible battery life as well with those mods.

Yes, the almost vanilla Android was a major reason I got a G2x. Like others, I assumed that meant quick updates. And while I agree that it has very solid hardware that should perform better today than it would with old software, it's still nothing like the Note 2 I got to replace it.
As other have mentioned, a big failure with the phone, other than updates, is the camera. I have small kids, and the 2 second lag makes the camera next to useless. Even if the kids hold still long enough, the camera quality isn't very good.
Overall, I was happy with the phone for most of the 18 months I had it. If it had a better camera and got reasonable updates, I probably would have waited until my contract was up (although t-mo was great about upgrading me early, to my surprise).

My words exactly. It was my first android and I did enjoy it, very briefly. Until the first freeze and random reboot. Of course that happened while I still could have returned the damn korean crap but I figured tmo and lg said they'll fix it right away, and they couldn't possibly abandon their customers right?!
Anyway. Finally dumped that piece of shmit and got a gs3. Can't be happier with this device, xda and t-mobile truly unlim h+

Ditto here. This was my first foray into the smart phone world (had a feature phone previously) and the big reason I got it was because of the "pure vanilla Android experience" they were touting about it. I expected frequent updates, and a phone I'd be using for years.
Now, I'm torn. I actually still love my phone, but the lack of any *stock* update is disappointing. There are lots of roms/mods out there, but none of them are perfect, and I'm not hard core enough to try out different ones.
Actually, if I could just have a GPS that worked 95% of the time I'd be pretty happy. I've tried so many different tweaks and still can't get it to work fast and consistently.
And as much as I'd love to upgrade and get a Nexus 4 (which I'm close to being eligible for) the lack of a removable battery and an SD slot are VERY big downers.

No it doesn't compete with phones coming out today. Don't try to ignore the truth.

If it couldn't keep up then you wouldn't still be seeing kernels and ROMs being made and updated for this phone.
LG may have never gave the phone the support it deserved but this site sure has and I thank them for that.
Actually support of g2x is dying. Many great devs have moved on to better and newer phones.
LG never again for me! That's why I was so disappointed when goggles announced nexus 4 by lg...
Verizon SUCKS with updates, and they tried their damndest to keep certain apps widgets and irons of my new Note 2. Thankfully, that's why XDA exists. The bootloader took awhile to get unlocked, but we finally have some kernel/rom options and development from other carriers is making its way to our forums. God stuff.

Its more nvidias fault then lg's. Nvidia is closed source so ofc there not gonna try and help LG out by giving them the drivers they needed for hw acceleration. If anything Google choosing LG for the nexus 4 boosted LG as a company as they actually release updates every other day practically, it is a nexus phone.. Just look at how well the LG nexus 4 has sold for proof. Nvidia and there closed source tegra need to stay off android IMO as they only hurt and delay android devices getting updated.
