Games not supported, found a way to install! (Kinda) - Asus Transformer TF700

So, after countless hours of searching and trying many ways to install some of my favorite games from my bionic to my tab, I had found 0 luck. (Completely stock tab and phone, Free games just not compatible) I stumbled on something interesting though:
The ES FIle explorer allows you to back up apps on your phones sd card! So, with that said, I did that... plug my phone into my PC, copied the backup file, drag and droped onto my tab, and boom, it worked! No longer do I have to play my games in a foreign language! I have only tried 2, but had success with the game working and I have to head off to work...
The one down side is, the backup is for a phone sized GUI, so I did run into some control problems, but Im sure this could be remedied i *think* by using another compatible tab device, backing it up on that tab, then repeating the process! (IE.., Moto Xoom, w/e 10.1" tab) My wife just so happens to have a xoom, so I shall try it out and report back in a day or two!
Just wanted to share!

The backup isn't for a phone sized gui, the app is. Each app has settings for all the resolutions it supports...

Want to upgrade from cyanogen 2.1 to 2.2 and retain current apps. Advice needed.

Is there any way to do this without having to re-install all my apps on my phone? I have a lot of apps installed and would not want to lose my data for them.
Also: I have a HTC Magic with 2.1 and cyanogen mod. It is starting to really get slow so I would like to do this upgrade.
Moved to Q&A.
bump, same question!
Try using Titanium Backup from the market. It backs up market links, apps, and app data. Also it backs up launcher's settings.
I would personally just do a clean wipe since Android 2.2 will automatically download and install all your apps.
Titanium Backup Fail
Downloaded the free and paid vesions of TB to a rooted ATT Captivate. Installed normally. Got the latest busybox and did a compete back up. All still ok. Flashed the new 2.2beta8.1 (designgears/cognition ROM) onto the device with Clockwork ROM manager. Still normal. Noticed after the restart, that FroYo installed, and as expected, all my apps were gone, only the stock apps remainng. I started the resoration process with market downloads of with TB and then TB Pro downloads (again) to get set up to go forward with the restore function and replace my apps and settings into the device.
I went to restore and here is where the "trouble" begins. I am unable to restore from the extermal SD card. No method for getting to it from within the program. Despite carefully reading everything I could find on your website and the forums, beforo beginning with the first steps for TB free, and then immediately into TBP, and carefully accomplishing the initial backup (which worked without error and stored onto the external sd card) something is not working the way it should, (I feel).
So I turned to the the PC next. I mounted the sd's and found the file. Copied it over to the root directory on the internal card from the ext sd card with the supplied data cable: ran TBP restore again. TBP indiactes back up successful, but it doesn't resotre anything backed up from the device under 2.1 Eclair_update1.
Still I do not have my contacts, deja office, tune in radio, ect. I did not have a lot of apps, but they are not reappearing when I do the restore.
The starred locs in maps came back, tho I actually think those favs, etc. are stored online.
So, working from memory here, the apps that failed to make the trip: Kindle and my one book Moby **** (a fun re-read - btw I realize now that I was too young to appreciate this when I read it in high school), Bar Code Scanner, BT GPS, Deja Office, Tricorder. None of my 1050 or so Conacts, Tasks, Memos, Notes, were restored. When I look at the Android Market app, and go to the download tab, it only remembers the paid apps I installed, none of the free apps show up in my list of downloaded programs. TuneIn Radio and its dozen or so presets are also missing. These are the missing apps I can recall at this instant. Oddly enough, the calendar appoitments did make the trip, maybe because google online is syncing them?
So I guess you could say the TB PRO app has been pretty much of a flop for me thus far, but I am hopeful that it will be fully functional soon. I'm wondering if the 2.2 ROM upgrade has some implication in the inability of the program to restore from the external sd card? Maybe there is something I missed in your documentation?
I could rebuild everything one step at a time, but I'd rather see the back-up program function as advertied and save my time. So I will pause here in my efforts, run with what I have, and wait to hear from you.
Your comments and suggestions are highly anticipated!

[Q] Developed app runs on tablet but not phones

So i wrote a quick small app, a media player, real basic. It scans the internal and external storage for mp3s and you can click on an artist, then click an album, then click a track and then it plays. I was able to run the app in two different emulators, and then i was able to install and run it on my Huawei s7 tablet. I then gave a copy to my two friends to load onto their phones, but they won't play on the phones. One has a motorola droid and the other has a nexus 1. They install my app using 'apk installer' (downloaded from the market), and it seems to install fine, but it has to force close when they try to run it. The option on the phones to install non market apps is enabled. I am at a lose as to why it won't run on the phones but it will run on my tablet and emulators. My app needs to permission to the wake lock, i don't know if that has anything to do with it. My tablet does have z4root on it, but i only do temporary root sometimes. I hoping that the phones don't need to be rooted to run my app.
Anyone have any ideas or things for me to investigate to figure this out? I would appreciate any clues.

[Q] Application sync across devices

So I believe this is the right place to post this.
I'm looking for an app that can save/sync games across devices. I lost my one phone and I had purchased some credits to support the game and when I lost is I lost all of the credits and I am playing a long RPG but there are times when I wish I could play it on my tablet instead of on my phone, but i dont want to play through it twice at the same time.
Does anyone know if there is an app that will allow me to back up and sync my application information across devices using something like drop box?
Titanium Backup does exactly that.
how does one do that, I'm trying to get a copy of spectral souls from my transformer over to my nexus S 4g, so i can be slightly more mobile and play?
I'm sure there is a more elegant way, but what I did to transfer my Battleheart save game to the phone was copy the TB properties and tar files for Battleheart from my Tab to my phone, then rename them so the filenames matched the phone app data filenames and replaced the phone's ones with them. I did this because both devices are currently in use, obviously between new devices you can just use TB like normal to restore the apps+data. Wouldn't be something I'd like to do a lot, I'm sure there must be a more elegant solution (probably TB does it natively and I just didn't see it...).

Odd file explorer/file association problem

Hi.
So, this is what happened.
Was watching an avi movie on Rockplayer, and I paused it and turned the screen off and forgot about it till this morning when I tried to turn it on and the battery was completely dead and it was off.
I charged it up and left it.
This afternoon when I tried out the new Micro SD card, I navigated to the folder to play a video off it with ES explorer and when I clicked on the file. the screen went greyed and nothing happened.
The file was an mp4, so it should have at least launched and asked if I wanted to play in stock or rock player or whatever, but nothing.
I tried file explorer HD, IO explorer and from the gallery and it just wouldn't play and of the mp4's from internal or external memory, just the same thing... greyed out screen and nothing.
AVI's play fine from the explorers, booting straight into rockplayer and playing, but it seems that files that would normally ask me which app to use, no longer work, including docx files.
If I go to rock player, it seems to work fine, just not from the explorers. Also the stock video app won't play them either when I navigate through it to them.
Quick office pro will open docx files from within as well.
So, to try fix this I went into the app settings and force stopped and cleared cache of everything that might be even remotely related, recking my layout in the process.
Still no joy.
So, I'm guessing it has something to do with the file associations or something.
Any ideas?
If not, how I do I safely wipe to default. It is stock US wifi with 3.2.
Or is it time for me to finally give in and root and try a kernel that actually works with the Micro SD?
If so can anyone point me in the right direction, if I do pick one, it must be really stable!
I'm not particularly attached to any of the data on the Xoom, I have backed up and can get it all again.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Try this: when the screen goes grey (at the time when you should have a dialog box popup asking which application you want to use) just rotate the Xoom, making it redraw the dialog box. It is said that once this is done, the problem won't appear again with that app.
let us know if it works.
Thanks for the quick reply.
That is great advice
Unfortunately, I was hasty to get it working and I unlocked and rooted my Xoom.
Ya, that was dumb, I know, since I now made this whole thread pointless. Although now at least other people might find your advice and be able to try it.
Sorry about that. And yes, as expected, unlocking did fix it since it wiped the data.
Thanks
Although, now that I have joined the rooting ranks, what is the Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.1 "Hammerhead" like?
Is it stable? Does it still have all the Xoom functionality? Does it work with the SD nicely?
What motivated you to go to it?
Ya, I know they have the Dev section, but it is way too much information everywhere.
Got bored again and also installed the Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.1 "Hammerhead" ROM. It's really cool. I like that the things that were supposed to be fixed by moto-goog are now fixed. Thanks devs

Great! You know you would have rooted eventually, this problem just gave you the justification.
Keep the screen rotate fix in mind...the problem you encountered seems to be from the HC3.2 update, and it may happen again.

[Resolved] This is a long shot, but... how can I continue my game save?

One of the main games I want to finish is Dragon Quest III. I got really far into the game, but then my phone got stolen. Luckily I had a TB backup of a lot of my apps and games. Fast forward over a year and I've got the itch to finish the game, as well as a few others that only saved data locally on the device. However, I have no way to restore it to my current phone (a bootloader-locked Verizon Galaxy S8+ on Pie, which is unrootable). Is there a way I can restore or resume the game(s) on my current phone? I've tried Helium and DataSync, with no luck.
Ended up trying BlueStacks, couldn't share files between host and guest OSes (no proxy for that between the two). BS Tweaker bypassed this limitation, but no matter what, USB debugging just couldn't be enabled, let alone a USB connection. Supposedly Andy has that capability, but despite everything I did, nothing showed up in the Shared folder in the file browsers. I ended up using the Google Drive feature in ES File Explorer to copy files between the two. But since Andy is almost exactly like an Android device (has the Settings and everything), developer mode was accessible, and USB debugging worked. After I installed all the needed apps and such, I was able to restore my TB backups, test them in-game, and back them up again using Helium, then restore on the phone. Took several hours, but in the end it was worth it.
