Is there any way to do this without having to re-install all my apps on my phone? I have a lot of apps installed and would not want to lose my data for them.
Also: I have a HTC Magic with 2.1 and cyanogen mod. It is starting to really get slow so I would like to do this upgrade.

Try using Titanium Backup from the market. It backs up market links, apps, and app data. Also it backs up launcher's settings.
I would personally just do a clean wipe since Android 2.2 will automatically download and install all your apps.
Titanium Backup Fail
Downloaded the free and paid vesions of TB to a rooted ATT Captivate. Installed normally. Got the latest busybox and did a compete back up. All still ok. Flashed the new 2.2beta8.1 (designgears/cognition ROM) onto the device with Clockwork ROM manager. Still normal. Noticed after the restart, that FroYo installed, and as expected, all my apps were gone, only the stock apps remainng. I started the resoration process with market downloads of with TB and then TB Pro downloads (again) to get set up to go forward with the restore function and replace my apps and settings into the device.
I went to restore and here is where the "trouble" begins. I am unable to restore from the extermal SD card. No method for getting to it from within the program. Despite carefully reading everything I could find on your website and the forums, beforo beginning with the first steps for TB free, and then immediately into TBP, and carefully accomplishing the initial backup (which worked without error and stored onto the external sd card) something is not working the way it should, (I feel).
So I turned to the the PC next. I mounted the sd's and found the file. Copied it over to the root directory on the internal card from the ext sd card with the supplied data cable: ran TBP restore again. TBP indiactes back up successful, but it doesn't resotre anything backed up from the device under 2.1 Eclair_update1.
Still I do not have my contacts, deja office, tune in radio, ect. I did not have a lot of apps, but they are not reappearing when I do the restore.
The starred locs in maps came back, tho I actually think those favs, etc. are stored online.
So, working from memory here, the apps that failed to make the trip: Kindle and my one book Moby **** (a fun re-read - btw I realize now that I was too young to appreciate this when I read it in high school), Bar Code Scanner, BT GPS, Deja Office, Tricorder. None of my 1050 or so Conacts, Tasks, Memos, Notes, were restored. When I look at the Android Market app, and go to the download tab, it only remembers the paid apps I installed, none of the free apps show up in my list of downloaded programs. TuneIn Radio and its dozen or so presets are also missing. These are the missing apps I can recall at this instant. Oddly enough, the calendar appoitments did make the trip, maybe because google online is syncing them?
So I guess you could say the TB PRO app has been pretty much of a flop for me thus far, but I am hopeful that it will be fully functional soon. I'm wondering if the 2.2 ROM upgrade has some implication in the inability of the program to restore from the external sd card? Maybe there is something I missed in your documentation?
I could rebuild everything one step at a time, but I'd rather see the back-up program function as advertied and save my time. So I will pause here in my efforts, run with what I have, and wait to hear from you.

Yes! I've just gotten off the oncall rotation stint so I can mess with my phone again without getting worried but not receiving calls. I'm on Infused 1.6, bigtime disappointed about no GB love from ATT so I'm going to try S7.
However, I have a ton of paid and free apps and setups installed that I really don't want to lose. I've gotten through a ton of threads but there weren't any hard mention that the apps would stick around. I have religiously backed up using Titanium and even copied the files to my PC for safe keeping.
Q1. I presume I would have to reinstall all apps on S7 as my Froyo-based backups will be useless then?
Q1. If I need to fallback to Infused 1.6, can I just use GTG Ultimate Unbrick, get back to stock rooted and use the Ti backup files to get me back to the previous state? Like Ghost? And I'll get my widgets, unlocker, folder organizer, themes e.g. back ?

If u like the set up you have already , just go into Recovery. Back/Nandroid and your safe at any point to just return to the set up that you had. with your apps and contacts and what not.
you CAN use Titanium to restore to your New GB Rom just do not Restore System Data. Only restore missing apps and data.

Thanks. I've done my nandroid backup and have verified I can go into red CWM. I didn't realize but glad to know I can use my Tibu to restore my apps. I presume I will still need to manually re-setup any customization, unlocker, folder apps e.g. I was all set to do it this morning at work except I forgot my outlook-synced contacts and calendar will need to be re-entered so I'll hold off until I backed them up at home.
Just to be doubly sure, are my paid and free apps in the form that I can manually just copy to my PC as a backup and be able to copy back and install them? Much like the setup or install exes and folders on Windows? Some of my apps I've purchased from Amz, some from Mkt and others from brainapp.
Titanium will Bring over all your apps. Again, just DO NO restore SYSTEM data.
and as far as your pad apps, they should ALL be linked to your google account. so at any point just go into market, hit settings, My Apps and u can find them all in there.

I am wondering how easy it will be to move from the Gs2 to the skyrocket? Basically any recommended ways of moving my apps, texts, pictures, etc to the SdCARD and back from the SdCard to the new phone? Contacts are synced with Google Contacts so no problems there, my main concern is with paid apps, I'd rather not pay for them again.
Can I back up apps via TiBU and restore them on the Skyrocket? Or can I just reinstall them on the new phone?

Paid apps are in your google account as well, you will be able to reinstall all your paid apps through the market (without repaying) by just signing in to your same google account.
The only thing you need to backup is your pictures/music.
Here's what I did to migrate to my Skyrocket from my Captivate:
*Duh Alert* Have your original phone rooted and Titanium Pro installed.
Original Phone
1. Backup APK & Data with Titanium.
2. Locate where backup directory is on your phone. Mine was \sdcard\TitaniumBackup
3. Mount original phone and copy backup directory to your computer.
New Hotness
1. Root that bad boy. Search the site, its here.
2. Install Titanium Pro from market.
3. Back up 1 app, pick something silly. That will create the backup directory.
4. Mount the new hotness and copy your saved directory from your computer to the Skyrocket.
5. Restore apps. I did one at a time cuz I didn't want everything installed on the new phone.
95% of the apps and data restored properly.
Simplistic, yes....but it works. Go forth and multiply.
If you want the smoothest experience on your Skyrocket, do NOT use a backup tool to bring over apps, just reinstall them from the Market.
Copying apps and app date with a tool like Titanium does and WILL cause some issues.

To partially agree with you I tried using MyBackUp Pro and almost everything failed. That's what I deserve for buying that one first back in the day. BUT....Titanium worked great. All of my paid apps were as good as gold.
Plus, if you want your saved data, wouldn't you have to use a backup tool?

If your just trying to backup like game saves then sometimes. A lot of times that data can be backed up by just mounting your sdcard to your computer and copying the files. Some games do save the data in funny locations so you do need (easier) to use something like Titanium, but you are always better off starting from as scratch as possible to avoid issues later.
Moving an app to save you from entering your login info for example, is just a bad idea. Most apps have no real data to backup, simple 2 second settings etc....

i have found that most issues with TiBu are do to you trying to restore System Information......i used tibu to restore my apps on the Skyrockert. i just picked APPS only with out system data.
worked fine i have not seen a hickup on any device or install after a flash of new Rom.

TiBu works great, usually, for restoring NON-System apps and their data.
Avoid restoring system apps/data.
Also, if you do happen to run into a problem with a particular restored app, all you need to do is uninstall/reinstall it and then use TiBu to restore the "data only" for that app.
This has always worked for me.

Its basically the same phone, screen tiny bit bigger and it edges r round, and the. 3 faster CPU is not noticeable, and if u don't live in the handful of citys that have lte network what's the point by the time LTE gets fully activated skyrocket will be old phone something way better out, now if u didn't have the gs2 already if say hell ya but since u do wasted money IMO

Though my thread title may be a little vague and might supposedly be better asked on google or android per se, just patiently read along as I try to explain my dilemma in more detail.
For ICS users, we all know the convenience of the "backup & restore" feature. Everything from wifi passwords, contacts, and installed apps will be magically restored when you install a new firmware on your phone with a full data wipe. And for us flash junkies, that indeed is really convenient.
But even though I have come to love such feature, I've noticed a few quirks as I was using it over time. The backup manifest or shall I say, the list of backed up data gets cluttered as you continue to backup data over time. This leading to a point where my backup data is now so messed up, whenever it auto restores once again, I see previously uninstalled apps back again and duplicate contact entries. So messed up, that I've decided to stop using this much loved feature and just manually backup my contacts, and re-install apps.
So, I am looking for some solution that I might be somehow able to manually edit that current backed up list (over at google or wherever it's stored), and update which will be restored if ever I flash my phone again. Or wipe that list clean and overwrite it with my current phone state.
Sorry for the long post but I've done my googling and forum searching beforehand only to no avail.
You can forgo that feature entirely and use titanium backup instead, for backing up your personal app data...
Titanium acts a little twitchy when restoring system apps and data across roms with different bases...
Your best bet would be to backup your downloaded apps with titanium, backup contacts and msgs (and call logs) from other market apps (I use go backup)...
For bluetooth and wifi access points, I haven't found anything that is truly cross compatible among roms...so better of you just write it down somewhere and refer that later...

Just got an N5. My first smartphone although I have an N7. I'm trying to move my user apps and app data from the N7 to the N5 but the process is failing. I can't find good instructions that don't assume you are restoring to the same device or assume you have an SD card you can move between devices. I've checked threads here and can't find anything.
N7 3G (2012), Android 4.2.1 Unlocked, rooted, stock ROM
N5 Android 4.4.2 Unlocked, rooted, stock ROM
Titanium backup is installed on both. N7 does TB backups and syncs to Google drive.
I created a filter on the n7 of just the apps to transfer and did another backup of those and sync'd to Google Drive. I copied the files for the ones I wanted (based on files having a just change date/time) from Google Drive to the N5 and put them in a new directory. I set the new folder as the backup folder in titanium backup. Now when I go to TB on the N5 I can see the apps but they all have a line through them. When I try to batch restore, I get a message that ### elements failed. I turned on allow unknown sources and that didn't make a difference. If I select an app in the list, I have options to uninstall or delete.
I have a feeling it would be easier to use one of the newer apps designed just for apps but I've got this far. I don't know why I can't restore them via TB.
Im not a fan of titanium backup I think its a good app but it has no place anymore in kit kat and it just kills battery and resources... Just my opinion

I did something similar with TB and this worked for me.
I strongly suggest you do it in steps. First step is go to Play Store, My Apps, All. Manually install each app fresh. (Don't panic...keep reading). If you didn't get the app from the Play Store, then copy the apk from your N7.
Once you have them all installed (fresh new versions, yay!) now open Titanium and press the middle tab (Backup/Restore). Go down the list and just tap the individual app name...a box pops up..press Restore...box pops up...Press Data Only. Done! Move on down the list, one by one. As you discovered, you can't batch restore this. It takes time, but they'll all work.
Whatever you do...DO NOT restore data to ANY SYSTEM APPS!. We don't need seeing another thread where you rushed and borked something
In fact, before you start, back up your N5..just in case.

Thanks. I ended up using the migrate feature on MyBackup Pro. It was kind of slow but less hassle than looking up 150 apps on the play store and installing them. (I'm an app addict). Some of them failed though so I'll have to do those manually and then I'll try the restore in Titanium. Not touching system apps except I wanted to move my wifi hot spots over with passwords which Titanium can supposedly do.
Wondering if I could have use OTG to back them up and then restore to the new device. Found some threads on it but not sure if it would have worked.

I'm sorry for such a noob question (???), but I've been researching this for so long and have not figured out how to solve my problem.
I purchased Titanium Backup Pro, to use on my rooted device (Amazon Fire He 10 tablet - I know, it's not really a "true," full-blooded Android tablet - maybe that's why I'm having no luck?). I had my tablet personalized and modified to a place where I was very happy with it, but needed to perform an OS update. I was hoping i could restore all non-system apps, and their data. I made a backup on the external SD card, synched it with Google Drive just to be safe. Performed a reset, updated the tablet, re-rooted it, reinstalled Titanium, and was ready to restore all of my user apps + data. They show in the list that is populated, but are grey with a line through them. When I reinstall them from the Play Store they become restorable again. But... doesn't that defy the point of using a backup program!? A lot of my apps were customized packages too, via Lucky Patcher, etc. I want my versions/data back, not a new replacement
I've tried many, many different settings and suggestions and methods as I've come across them online, but am getting nowhere. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask if someone was very familiar with this app and possibly had some advice.
