Lean Kernel has amazing battery life undervolted! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Out of all the kernels I have messed with and tweaked voltage settings with, lean kernel has given me the best on JB. I did not overclock though. Here is a screenshot. Took my phone out of the charger at 9:00 AM today. It is currently 6:37 PM.

An hour and thirty minutes roughly. Not too bad. Decent usage.

Really? I'm gonna hit the news worthy button in the corner!

What rom? I get over 3 hours screen on

I've never ubdervolted a kernel... is it easy? What exactly does it do? does it really save that much battery?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2

Yes really! And it is amazing. Use system tuner. Or another system tuning application. And you can do quite a bit. Very handy.

Undervolting is more for stability, yes it saves some battery but nothing drastic Imo. I usually UV if I feel the device is getting too warm while in use.

You don't need to do anything to undervolt Leankernel, it's undervolted by default.

That isn't true of the newest ones. You have to at least run the lkconfig script and tell it to allow undervolt.

FWIW, I get almost 9 hours with stock jb, browsing with lte, and 3:41 of screen on time... The op's result doesn't seem very good to me?

Lk is not UV'd by default. You have to use Term Emu to even get the UV to stick. Guys please don't add things when u dont know what ur talking about, especially kernel related stuff. Very easy to brick a phone messing with the kernel. And for those who want to UV LK, please go to RootzWiki and use Imoseyon's chart for UV, if you UV too much you will run into problems. Its on page 142. I used his guide and LK and I easily get 24+ on a charge with 3-4 hrs screen time.
Btw LK 1.7 just released last night!

Went to page 142 but not sure I understand the slow/nominal/fast aspect. Which setting is under-volted for better battery life? System tuner shows me running the slow number settings.

Thanks
Thanks for the info. Will try it.

What is the best G2X rom so far with good battery life? Do i need to flash another kernal to get better battery life? New here. Thanks.
I tried the weapon g2x, but didn't think the TW launcher forcing stock dialer as the only option. Other than that, it's good rom with the notification toggle.

Is good battery life all you are really looking for in a rom?
if so you could try a stock or tweaked stock rom and a oc uv kernel
+1 for WaponG2x with Faux kernel.
Pretty much all CM7 based roms are the same. Try xboarders or g2xtreme

I tried g2xtreme yesterday. Very good so far.
+1 for WaponG2x with Faux kernel -> The faux kernel overclocks it? Is there a way to set the cpu profile? I tried no frills cpu but no luck setting it. Any comment? Thank you.
I've been using eagleblood 2.0 with with the new faux kernel 0.4.1u..and my phone is just the bees kneeees..hah..check out my quadrant score..

battery life has a lot of factors..how many apps/widgets you run..what you do day to day..wifi..etc..
PERSONALLY..with a modest amount of widgets, wifi and gps on..constant texting and a phone call here and there...I get around 10 hours per charge. When I forget to charge it overnight, it usually is still on whenever I wake up...so I take that as decent.

Faux123 kernel for Weapon 3.0?

I just got my G2X and just flashed Weapon 3.0 but I feel like it kills my battery. So I wonder if I can use any faux123's kernel with it?

Reset the battery stats and let it run for a couple of days. The kernel included with Weapon 3.0 is the most battery effecient one. I get 14-24 hours depending on use.
Faux123 0.1.3 I haven't had a random reboot yet and getting much better battery life oc at 1200 MHz

Wow! That is a hot score. Hmm...I have tried custom kernels on some other roms with mixed results (probably my fault). Anyway, I am willing to give it a try again. What is the best way to back up the original kernel in case I want to reinstall it? Of course their is a nandroid back up, but is there a simple way to back up just the kernel?

[Q] how is my battery usage?

hey guys, first post here, got my g/f skyrocket as a christmas gift. been iphone owners for past couple of years. love the phone and and system but as usual battery drain is an issue. i installed nexusmod and stockish kernel and the batt improved but still it wasnt near where other guys were reporting. so i flashed with skyrocket kernel and also i flashed it with a script that limited the cpus to around 1gh.
i would post screen shots but im not allowed since its my first post.
well after a full day, i got
- 10h of total use
- 2hr of display time on
- 30m calls
wifi off
screen brightness - 10-30%
gps off
sync off
4 emails acc checking every 30mins
so how does this sound with the rom, kernel and script setup? no wakelocks or anything.
i thought i would get much better results with cpus underclocked.
thats in advance
I find it's really the display that destroys battery life. I hardly used my phone for one day and got 20hous and still had a few hours left but then today I unplugged at 7 am and by 8 pm I was down at 25% because I used it for about 2 hours on the train.

[MOD/SCRIPT]CPU Editor - BEST Battery Life

Has anyone tried this script on their optimus3d http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584508 ,if so has it mad a difference to the battery, and if so could you be kind enough to post your settings .
I guess since there's various kernel/rom( a good thing lol), could you also post which rom and kernel you are using aswell thanks!

These isn't a very good basis.
You'll need to charge to 100% and then let the battery drain.
So the battery saving option is only for screen off if so well that's pretty good I wounded if there's a way to turn one core off totally cuz I don't ever play games on my phone just text and call well see I got work tomarow so then ill be able to compare
ok so im running acidhazard 4.2 with thiazo3d 1.2 kernel with tweakzv6 also running simple home launcher from LG. i turned the max cpu speed of secound core to 300mhz and put it on power saving profile ill report back with battery info after using for a couple days at work.
wish i could use samno's kernal with undervolt that would probly give me awsome battery life, but i get no service with his kernel.
ok bad idea to turn one core all the way down got kinda jumpy and laggy veiwing xda web site lol ill try finding a sweet spot

[Q] The Battery

Does anyone have any ideas of how to suck less juice out of the battery? I'm on EP5 with tweaked ROM.
Also noticed that when the phone gives notifications, the screen lights up and displays the pattern screen. Some times it does not shut off. I have CPU spy and the phone hardly ever goes deep sleep. usually stays at 100mhz.
If I could fix this one problem, I'd be happy with the phone.
Mike
Download betterbatterystats. It can tell you what app is forcing your phone to stay awake (not deep sleep). Also just so you know the phone stays at 100mHz when it's plugged in.

depends on what kind of life you are getting/expecting?
with Juice Defender, I can go all day (just about, really 16 hours with moderate use). without JD, I get about 12-14 hours with moderate/light use. this is with WiFi, mobile data, and bluetooth on all the time (JD does disable mobile data when wifi is connected, but still "holds" a connection). I know this is the case b/c when I leave the phone unplugged at night (8 hours), my phone will drain about 23% with mobile data on and wifi connected. with me manually turning mobile data off, it will drain ~7%.
regarding screen wakes, what kind of notifications are causing the screen to turn on? for mine, the only time the screen turns on is when I have a call or battery is fully charged/hits the 15/5% triggers.
do you have BLN enabled?
