SOLVED! [Q] Standard videoplayer all the time mx player won't change to default - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a stock note 10.1 and when i make a shortcut to my video map on the homescreen with es file explorer and select a video from that map shortcut it always plays it in the standard videoplayer instead of mx videoplayer.
mx videoplayer is listed as default for video but whatever i try it always start the vid in standard videoplayer.
when i select that same videofile (mp4) with the standard file explorer (the yellow one the vid starts in mx player as it should always.
but the yellow standard filemanager doesn't let me make a shortcut of my video map to the homescreen.
Does anybody know how i can make a map shortcut to the homescreen without using es file explorer?
even "default app manager" from the playstore says mx player is default but it don't work that way here :crying:
thanks!

are you on about the list that shows the video previews ? I think that is part of the stock video player hence it starting the stock video player.
It's something else i would like but i have the feeling it isn't possible.

SOLVED!
Well after searchin' my @ss off i stumbled on a message that said ES file explorer is the culprit!
I had to go to ES file exporer/settings/file settings/ and there i found an alternate "clear all defaults" from ES itself!
So it seems that ES overrules standard default in it's own shortcuts on homescreen.
Nothing in standard clear all defaults gives a clue about that.(all apps)
Well that's something to remember . . . :silly:
It can be of use when you want a special file to open with a special app other than standard . . . .:good:
So I learned something and that is always good:laugh:

[Q] HTC Evo - Application Extension Link

Ok, here is the deal. I got my new Evo, love it. I installed a video player to it and it was horrible!, so I un-installed it. The problem is that I now have no application associated with wmv.
I have checked in Astro, there is an entry for wmv.
* If I click on a wmv in astro I get the message "file type wmv not found".
* if I long press on the file and 'Open As' I can choose video and it opens in the default video player and looks spectacular I might add!. There is also no option for "use as default" from this menu choice.
* If I create a shortcut pointing to the wmv file and then select it to open, I get the message "The linked program is no longer installed on your phone".
I have been through the list of applications installed and looked for the "Launched by default" option and can't find any entries for the video. I believe it is because the application has been removed???
Is there a simple way to restore or point wmv files back to the default video player? I may at some point install a new/different/better video player, but for now I would be thrilled with making the default one open the files.
Really? I kinda figured I would have 30+ reply by now. Maybe this is an impossible task?
Settings>Applications>Manage apps and open Camera (both if you have two) and tap the 'Clear defaults' and videos would be unassociated. Then you can re-associate the videos by checking the 'use by default for this action' and choseing 'Movies'
Tasks, tried that with no change in results. Any other ideas?
You should look at other apps cabable of playing videos and clear defaults, but ONLY for these apps, or else you can mess up something.
If it not works then backup everything and reflash(or ask some pro guys ;-)

[Q] HTC Video Player

Hi! I want HTC Video Player to be deault video player (instead of TCPMP) but I couldn't make it happen. I choosed it to be default in "open with" dialog in file explorer, but after that when I click on a video file nothing happens. Yesterday before I did this change, it could play some video files but now it doesn't. I like this tiny player, it looks handy to me. How can I make it play video files by default?
Open TCPMP. Options-Settings-Select Page-File Associations.
Remove ticks from videos you are interesting of.
I think I got it fixed, thanks Fighter. I'll have you a beer next time you're in Turkey .

Cannot play video from ES file explorer smb share.

Hi,
I have a NAS that share video file with smb, I used to open these files in ES file explorer and it will give me the option to open it in MX player. Recently I got my Nexus 6P with Android 6.0.1, and there is no such option anymore. The video will always default to use es file explorer video play. Anyway I can fix this?
Update:
I noticed in the app details page on the phone there is a "Open by default" option and inside there is "supported links" which has the value "*" . Maybe this is the cause? I used to developed an app that forwards intent to mx player and if I use "*" it will not work. I had to provide mime type so mx play show in the open list. Another thing I noticed is the problem is not only for MX player but for all other video streaming supported players. So it must be something changed in Marshmallow.
Thanks.

Is this a empty answer?
@ktsamy seems your post got posted blank.
Regarding the OP, hmm, I wonder if instead the problem is on ES's side. I don't know much about this area, though.
Same here, I can't get to make mx player appear in the list of players capable of playing a video from a smb share or a local dlna renderer
Issue still exists.
@zhumingvictor
@obladi64

@CDB-Man
The issue is from the android itself.
There are 2 major issues.
1. Android 6 has a issue which will lead to disappearance of Apps. If you set app as default & Then clearing the defaults, many apps including MX, BS, VLC have disappeared from open with list. There is no way to bring them back other than uninstalling/disabling the app which you have set as default earlier in order to bring the missing apps back to list. The issue was reproducible even in Stock Nexus devices. But, it was fixed in 6.0.1
2. Pathpattern no longer works with many third party apps in newer android versions when host is set to *. This is one of the major issue. But, When you remove the host entry as you suggested, some apps will list MX Player incorrectly for unknown contents for a unknown reason. One more thing is that Google Chrome & Stock brower doesn't list the app for video files when it's removed. So, it can't be removed straight away.
BTW, after lot of test & trails I have found the solution for the issue. I have forwarded the same to the MX Player developer as well. It's now fixed on MX Player code base. Next update will bring the fix to both issues.
Thanks for your effort. My workround is to make MX player default for all required file types by opening files from local storage. Than MX Player will be default for smb files too.

mx player pauses 1 second when pushing back button.

Hallo,
I use mx player as an artist.
But there is a problem.
I play mpg files directly from es file.explorer.
When I press the back button during playback, in order to go back to es file explorer to find the next track, mx player pauses performance for a.split second.
It was not like that a year ago but since 6 months there is this .
Hi I buy pro version
1-I try to open some video ext like .mpeg and it show not supported. And .rm file it show sound not support
2- some video file show small display. Why? How to fix it ?
3- I don't like when I open any video file from any file app starting all video file in same folder one after one direct . How I can make it to play one video and stop or to clouse the app like other player app?
Thanks

Changing the default video player

My previous phones were a Samsung S2 & S4, and one of the features I found useful, was being able to change the default video player (usually to MX Player). However, on my G7 Power, I can't seem to be able to do this, and there isn't a video player option in the app defaults.
Is there a way of doing this within the OS, or with a 'hack' ?

I can change the default player to VLC or x-ploer without any issue.
There is an option when you first time open a video file let you choose which program to play it as default

I don't get that option on my G7. If I go into Files, and pick a video, it just opens with the default player; to open it with another video player, I have to select a video and then go to the three dots at the top, and choose Open with.
I have tried resetting the default apps, but that didn't give me the option of picking a default video player, it just stopped half my apps working, as they lost their permissions

From app management to clear the default app , you are ready to go.
It was because you already selected the default player at the first run (or you didn't have the second player installed at the first run), so you won't see the option again until you clear the default
Here my moto G7 power, it still has option to choose which player can be chosenView attachment 5046801
Unfortunately I can't see your attachment, if I click on the link, I just get the message "Invalid Attachment specified"
When I look in Default Apps, I don't have any default apps for video - see attached screenshot

When you installed a second video player, next time to click a compatible video file , you should see the option to choose the player , also there would be a "default" option's check box

I have now tried UPlayer & Xplayer, and clicked on a mp4 file in my downloads (in Files app), and it still always open the default video player. I tried granting one access permission beforehand, but that didn't help. There is still no video player showing in default apps either. I can't find any reference to the default/stock video player in the apps list or recent apps, so I can't even disable it, maybe it is part of the files app?

Were you ever able to solve this issue? I'm having the same problem with my G7 Plus. Even if I remove/disable all the apps in the "Open With" menu, something else is still always opening videos by default.
