[Q] Disable touch input for pen use? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need a way to disable touch input and only allow pen input. The problem with S-Note is that even if you disable touch input for drawing, you can still manipulate zoom in and zoom out. I need a way to turn this off because my palm is activating this while I'm writing on the tablet.
Is there any way to do this? Thank you.

You're not the only one having this problems, and unfortunately there's no solution. Well, you could always remember to have your pen close to the screen since it's when you lift it while your palm is still resting on the screen the problem accrue. But today, the only solution as far as I know is to get LectureNotes and use that instead.
I have stared a thread in the apps section here about the new crappy version of SNote, that have a lot of bugs and problems. Hopefully we'll find a solution soon, until then please tell samsung about your problem and hopefully they'll understand that this really is a problem and fix it.

I use a fingerless glove when sketching. That way my hand does not touch the screen but I still can use my fingers to pinch and zoom. Plus the glove also slides on the screen better than you palm.
Layerpaint has a setting which disables single touch(from your hand) and will only recognize a dual touch for moving and pinching and zooming. The only disadvantage is that you then have to select tools and settings with the stylus instead of your finger.

Just about had it with S-Note's palm detection fails.
Are there any apps that will disable the capacitive touch screen on command?

LectureNotes <3 When set right, I've not had any problems ever getting the pen and two finger pan/zoom to work just like it should.

agreed, lecture notes really does the trick!

This seems to be something that changed since the jellybean update for the galaxy note 10.1. I have the n8010 and had no issues with s note when i bought it. When my hand touched, it locked out zoom and pan, and I has no issues writing. Since the jellybean update, it doesnt work right at all. My hand touching the screen always causes a pan or zoom. I know s note was definitely updated because pdf imports suddenly work, and a few other features changed. If I had the option to downgrade to the version this n8010 shipped with, that would be ideal at this point. I hope Samsung realises they removed a useful feature and adds it back soon!

Correct! Since the upgrade SNote just doesn't work at all, which many with you have pointed out before. And beside the zoom and pan problem, I'm not really a fan of the new action bar in the top of the page that doesn't have any "hide" option. For me, the shape recognition tool doesn't work at all either as I've shown in a thread here in the apps section.
No, everything worked better with the previous version as far as I can tell. However, those lucky few who already have the 4.1.2 update doesn't seem to have these kind of problems at all so maybe there will come a better version of SNote with the next upgrade. But unfortunately, not many have the 4.1.2 so it might just be a case of them doesn't using the SNote application very much and therefore haven't gotten the problems yet.

Well I hope the Samsung folks are paying attention, because the s note feature is really why my office selected the Note 10.1 in the first place. We have purchased several! Still a great tablet, but this is an annoying flaw.

I've called Samsung about this and escaladed the issue. But like with any company they're more likely to do something about it if many complain.

It does, and are the solution they refer to in the thread "I wish SNote got locked zoom" (or something). That feature alone is enough to root the tablet, it's too bad that the guaranties gets invalid when doing so..

I can confirm that gmd spen root works great for me you can disable touch input by an spen gesture you create it and revert back at any time .
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda premium

I know this is kind of OT but, is there any easy way of rooting this device without loosing all your guaranties/automatic updates and without too much risk of bricking it? Are there any other disadvantages of rooting?
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda app-developers app

If you want to keep the stock rom u need to root with cf-autoroot and have the root access now if you want a custom recovery (to install zip files-do nandroid backup or install a custom rom)your binary will count each time u reboot to recovery but don't afraid always u can revert back to stock and have your warranty back
When you root you will lose ota (over-the-air) updates but you can update with kies or mobile odin pro

gdm spen
GDM S-pen root fixed my issue, the only disadvantage being that there is no way to make "no-touch" persistent between locking the phone and reactivating it. Which is more of a benefit then a con for those looking just to draw w/out troubles.
In my case were the touch screen is completely fubar it would help though, I'll see if I can contact the dev maybe it would be easy to add a persistent no touch option tucked away in the settings

On top of the palm reject screen resize fail with s-note, is anyone having trouble with the bottom of their forearm unintentionally opening the bottom menu when resting their palm on the screen ? It seems like I have trouble with at least one but sometimes both of those issues on a daily basis. Seriously considering rooting this bad boy.

attempt
Contacted samsung about the s note's disable touch function does not work at all. They forwarded my request to the engineering team or the app developer and this issue will be resolved. Representative used a note 10.1 while on the phone with me and we came to an agreement that the zoom function shouldn't be happening at all.

I use GMD gesture for Spen and I'm very happy of it...just give it a try!

For those reading this in 2016 and onwards.. Works amazing on my note 12. 2 pro and note 4.

[APP] Touchscreen Booster (Increase touch sensibility, smoothness, multitouch)

Hey xda followers!
I have a hardware problem with my Transformer since the beginning and was too lazy to change it by a new one...
My problem is that I use my device with no problem but sometimes I am loosing touch inputs...
If I let the Transformer go into sleep mode alone and unlock it, I have to force lock and unlock again to have good touch responses back...
Then I can have a good session of 30 minutes of use without any problem and then, randomly, touch input precision is lowering, until I can't use it anymore and I must lock and unlock rapidly again...
Very annoying problem for sure...
But today I decided to search through google, forums, xda, to have a beginning of solution to my problem.
And I found THE Touchscreen Booster application.
It's an application that was made for Viewsonic G tablet at the origin. The famous Bumblebee discovered it at first so thanks to him for that. And the thread talking about that is from gojimi. He modified the application to be more easily usable. So thanks to him too!
Being an android application and having titanium backuped all my applications, I thought: why not trying!
So I installed it and launched it... AND... TADAAA! Just incredible. It worked, no problem at all, no force close, no freeze, nothing.
AND: touchscreen inputs are incredibly smoother, sensitivity has been greatly improved, response time between writing letters is better, multi touch is improved... It's just paradise. I don't know if you tried Ipad but the result is that type of sensitivity...
This application can be used by all types of roms and for people who have problems with touchscreen sensitivity or just want a bigger one
Please leave here your feedback, positive or negative, and remember, do it at your own risks, I am not responsible of the potential problems after applying this application.
It worked for me, my Transformer had never been so smooth, so why not yours!
Maybe you will have to launch the application some times, when you feel that sensitivity was better before, or after boot... But you can put the application on your desktop and touch the button FixMe!
Share, enjoy, and say thanks

Seems to have worked for me....the keyboard doesn't seem that much more responsive though...the screen transitions are alot more smooth.
Thanks for this find!!!!

Thanks for the apk though I`ll try it out
Wow, nice. My touchscreen was a little slow and not very sensitive to touch input. running the app has helped quite bit.
Omg this is perfect.

This probably edits something in build.prop and other system files, so yes. I'll confirm this once I try it.
EDIT: Doesn't require root. I feel no difference though...

Well, when you launch it, there is no SuperUser action popup to allow the application so I am not sure that you need to have root access...
And, yes, it has an effect on every touch app (try writing a message before and after applying the apk or try playing angry birds, there is a big difference)

SO i gave this a shot and some aspects do seem smoother to me. None of the handwriting apps i tested were any diff as before the test.
I already had what i felt is a smooth responsive touch screen, but was curious to see if it was going to get any better.
QUESTION: when you run the app it says after hitting the calibration button "Follow the directions exactly"
I hit the button and it says calibrating screen dont touch, but no other directions.
Am i missing something here or is that the extent of the directions...
All in all not sure if it is just a placebo or if it is actually smoother. I suppose others with really bad touch response may see an effect.

No, it really is not a placebo, believe me. It was even more noticeable in my case (read my first post about my hardware problem) but even when my device was ok, it wasn't so smooth as it is right now.
For the instructions, you don't miss anything.
The important thing is "DO NOT TOUCH SCREEN WHEN CALIBRATING" because it could screw up the calibration, and if you do the opposite, the result would be that you wouldn't be able to use the device anymore, because not being able to relaunch calibration (if you have the dock, no problem at all )
That's all

So, to people who tried this application, what is your appreciation now after one week of use?
Anyone for some feedback for who has used it for about a week now?
With my TF I have a "dead" / "very unresponsive" line (about 5 mm wide) under the camera over the length of the screen.
This is very annoying when opening the market (difficult to select the search field) or when trying to tap the taskbar when the TF is rotated 180 degrees.
Sometimes it works normally, so I do not know if it is the ROM / Kernel or just unresponsive hardware.
Could this solve it?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 + Stylus issues

Hi all.
I've reading and researching about using Tab 2 and a stylus, in every page or blog I found ppl keep saying "Install Touchscreen Tune". Unfortunatelly, touchscreen tune is not compatible with Tab 2 version.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this problem? Some console code, some parameter to change, anything?
I would really appreciate if you can help me finding a solution...
Thanks in advance,

Not sure what could be done. I had one and disliked it. Bought a $30 decent model too (and returned it) Even with the touch sensitivity on 10 it sucked.

i heard from vitalyj, the guy behind touchscreen tune, that samsung used the SYNAPTICS S7301 chip (which is incompatible with his app as of now) for the tab 2. The guys from cyanogen mod project wrote a driver for the chip at least for a s2 fork or something, i saw the code on github but i do not have enough posts here to post the direct link unfortunately
Its CyanogenMod / android_kernel_samsung_smdk4412 project, "synaptics: Add S7301 touchscreen driver " commit.
Could this help for a development of a similar app for the tab 2? Could one compile the kernel and post the console commands for the settings or is it too hard to do fast or a t all?
PS: Hello XDAforums!
Increasing the sensitivity won;t improve the resolution of the touch screen. If you are thinking you will get results like the Samsung note with S-pen, think again. These screens are made to work with fingers.

+1 Just setting min-movement from 10-20px to 0px or so, would help a lot. Now I'm just unable to "draw" small things because it requires a "big" movement to start painting. Of course, not that I bought the Tab 2 instead of the Note 10.1 to draw... but sometimes I'd like more precision.
Tried all apps, but it's the same. I hope someone gets around it. The Synaptics driver post looks promising maybe.
I have a tab2 and the best thing I have found is to use a fine point stylus. I then just use the erase to clean up. Unfortunately these tablets just aren't going to give a fine detail sketch. I have seen my friend knock out some good drawings by zooming in then out and erasing to clean up, l've had no luck.

I'm using the same cheapo stylus with my tab 2 7.0 that I bought for my S3. It works wonderfully on my S3 but horribly with the Tab 2. I can't Swype at all, it keeps losing contact. I need a solution. I have to press really hard with the stylus to select as well. I am honestly thinking of returning it.

Well said, also true.
I believe that if the above two parameters could be tweaked it would solve 99% of the touchscreen sensitivity issues with the 2nd generation G-Tabs, and would probably allow use of a stylus with good performance, instead of dismal performance.
GUTTED
This is just ridiculous! It's bad enough that you can't adjust the screen sensitivity but I just can't believe there some sort of hack to make stylus use acceptable!
Up to now I have been really happy with my Tab 2 but its inability to be used with a stylus has just destroyed the main reason I got it - for annotating PDFs with drawings & handwriting.
Extremely disappointed, I still can't believe it! Such a basic feature!
No-one has any thoughts?
I'm going to sell me Tab 2 and get something else. What do you recommend?

[Q] Help Needed - SPen not recognized

Just got my hand on a Note 10.1 GT-N800 with SPen on bottom left of the screen (must have been an early version).
I could not have the SPen working from the initially installed ROM ICS and kernel so I have upgraded to 4.1.2 N8000XXCLL3 and 3.0.31-Jelly/OC kernel.
But SPen is still not working.
I do not know who did originals mods on the device and now trying to recover the functionality. Everything else seems to be working fine (Phone, wifi....)
I was wondering if there is a way to access the kernel settings to enable the SPen, it seems to be a different hardware compared to the current one (galaxy note gt-N7000 type).
Non recognition means: no detection if the SPen is in place or not and no response when in contact with screen.
Any help welcome

S pen in on bottom lef scree and to your right side when you hold it, can you post the screen shot of your device info in settings.
Did you get the not new or second hand, irrespective of the rom install spen will work on custom roms in a limited way but will work just fine.
If it is not working at all that means there is something wrong with your device

So are you saying it doesn't work at all? You've tried to write in s note? In s noteyiu have to touch the screen once ln the page to activate handwriting.
From your photo it looks like the device has recognized that the pen has been removed by the little pen icon on the bottom right.
Why can't you just return and exchange it? If it's faulty they will replace it no problems.

[Q] bluetooth mouse makes phone vibrate

Hello everyone
I just started experiencing a very strange issue in regards to a bluetooth mouse I just started using on my rooted Samsung Galaxy Note II. The mouse works perfectly on the phone, and I'm loving the interface. Just today I opened a google drive document, and immediately noticed that every time I moved the mouse, the phone would vibrate proportionately (i.e. the faster I moved the mouse the harder it would vibrate). I went through all my setttings and turned off all vibration and haptic feedback I could find, including keypress haptic feedback. This had no effect on the problem. Note that this problem ONLY surfaces when viewing google drive documents from the google drive app. All other apps (including other google apps) that I have tried haven't had any problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I use google drive quite a bit for school.
Phone specs:
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100
Android 4.1.2 with CleanROM ACE 4.6.1
Google Drive version 1.2.563.31
Let me know if any other specs would be useful.

Same here using OPO with stock CM11S, never happened before,, just after the last docs update. It's pretty annoying :/
I appreciate this is necro posting, but I am really stuggling with this exact issue. I have a Nexus 9 and a MS Notebook Bluetooth Mouse 5000, which work perfectly together except for in google docs & slides. I have a stock ROM, and it has always done it. What is even more frustrating is I bought my Mum exactly the same model at the same time (allbeit with a different mouse), my mouse works perfectly for her and the mouse I bought her has the same problem on my device.
All this proves to me is that it is my device, and it is nothing to do with the ROM or Android version but I have no idea what is causing it. Problem is I wanted to use this as a laptop replacement and using docs and slides was a big part of that. I have tried clearing the cache and uninstalling updates on the app (I can't uninstall it completly as its a preloaded app in the Nexus 9). If anyone found a solution I would love to hear it. I might try resetting my device to factory settings to see if that cures the issue.

What are you looking forward to..

On the 6.0 update?
For me...
1. Faster fingerprint reader/unlock animation
2. New keyboard layout
3. Finally having an option to switch to pin code for alternative option if fingerprint isnt working
4. Adjustments on touchwiz
5. Google now on tap
6. New emojis
7.Faster phone ?? (hopefully)
Is speed an issue? My Note5 is smooth and quick. *shrug* Now on Tap is actually pretty cool. I don't use a protective lock screen so I don't know about that. I'd like to be able to activate Samsung Pay with a swipe up from the S-View window, but that won't happen.

Speed is definitely not an issue lol, but there are somethings that need a speed improvement.. such as the fingerprint reader. I just hope i dont see any lag. Im assuming you use Find my mobile? if you dont use a protective lock screen. And i dont use samsung pay or NFC payment for that matter, but i understand your struggle haha.
I could root my device, but i choose not to. Reason being is it will possibly lose value once Knox has been tripped.

I do use Find my Mobile but I also use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity to lock certain apps. It only locks those apps when I am not connected to my WiFi or my cars Bluetooth. Maybe with the new fingerprint API I'll lock the whole phone up.
I also noticed when watching marshmallow beta for s6/s6 edge is that the capacitive buttons dont light up when touching the screen... which is a smart move from samsung. It saves battery and it makes sense. It only lights up when pressing them or when pressing the home button.

Thats looks like a really useful app! And yes, really looking forward to the new fingerprint API. We can finally make purchases with just our fingerprint reader on play store, amazon, ebay, etc... hopefully.
I hope they fix the keyboard lag I have with every keyboard.
New emojis?! What are the supposed to look like in 6.0? Also what is Google on tap?

Actually it makes no sense, whatsoever. The entire point of the capacitive buttons lighting up when you touch the screen is so you can see them in the dark in order to press them.. lighting up when you touch them makes zero sense, why would I need them to do THAT?

It only takes about an hour to learn which is which... Its unecessary for the lights to turn on everytime you touch the screen, its just pointless.

They didn't light up because it was a Beta and the rooted kernel broke it even more on some devices, but made them work better on other devices. There's also mods you can use to just turn them off if you don't like them. Xposed. Or just go into the settings!!!
Also, just because you don't like them being on, doesn't mean that they are pointless. Tests have also been done to see just how much battery life is affected by Capacitive buttons and you can't even tell how much they use.
By the way, a lot of people like myself, work in dark places and have to use our phones. Think about that for a minute.:good:
The only thing I'm looking forward to is a phone that doesn't get an update and have it cause the phone to be worse than before. Right now my stock Note 5 works just fine.

Well judging by the videos people post about MM update or s7 edge with MM, it doesn't light up when touching the screen. Lol.
