[Q] Ubuntu Phone - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Do you think we will ever get an ubuntu phone ROM?

I would love this but with the semi-lacking (no offense to our current awesome devs!) development and with such I doubt some one will take on a project such as this..

There is currently no ROM porting ics to our phone. We do have plenty of great roms available, though, so feel free to spend some time digging around our forums and reading. This is how you become a not-newb.

Yes as long as you have the gingerbread OS, you are qualified.! Is there development on your phone.??
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Yup plenty
How do you plan to distribute?
You make a rom, and leave it others to port, or do you make a source and let others do builds?

Until I get familiar with releasing source code, I'm gonna go with the porting method for the time being.!

What device do you have, and what type of device is it (tablet or phone) tablets will (in most cases based on my past development experience with them) require some more time, but if your device has a custom recovery, or a way to flash custom images such as rktool for rk2918 devices, then your good to go dude .!

Sounds great man! I am definitely looking forward to this being released. If you need someone to test/work out bugs, let me know. I have an HTC Evo 4G that I can use.

For one, it will be more ICS based (beyond the extent of a "themed" cm rom because that wouldn't be good enough IMO) so for example, the recent apps carousel, a music app built by us (later release, though), and a lot more. For the sake of the fact that I am on the xda app, it would take forever to type this stuff, but just know that it will be an awesome experience.! ill put out a full features list soon.!

There is also the X2...we have development for it as well...just can't unlock the bootloader

As long as you can make it support most DPI's (HDPI/MDPI/LDPI). I'm sure our section would be happy to have a new rom. It does seem promising.

This is great, I have a G2X which has plenty of development. However I'll be moving to the Galaxy Blaze 4G which has almost no development yet.
I'll be testing for sure.

I will be setting up a build environment too soon. There are a few guides around in the internet on how to compile.
It is recommended you have Ubuntu, but not the latest version because of back compability issue compiling. Also you need 50-100 gb of free space and a decent processor to handle all the work.

what exactly did you wanna do? Are you trying to compile from source or put together a linux distro with everything set up? Or something completely different?

My idea is for a hybrid droid/Linux system . Similar to a tablet let's you have phone function but would allow person to do almost everything a laptop would do

Anyone have a cm9 rom?

i never tried out cm9 and i was wondering does anyone have a cm9 rom i can download? I'm quite aware that it's no where near as fast as 4.2.2 roms but i used it alot in my inc2 days and wanna go back to it for a little bit
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
pretty certain cm9 never came to the S3. at least on this forum. there might be other builds elsewhere though.
I thought it did because I saw a thing on droid-life about it awhile back
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Why do you want to try cm9. I used it on a nook tablet and droid incredible and hated it. Always seemed like a huge battery drain. I honestly don't remember seeing a cm9 build for the Verizon s3.

The S3 was release post CM9 . I even had CM10 on my OG Nook.

Uses the kexec method that we were using before the unlocked bootloader. Most peripherals probably do not work. Flash at your own risk.

Don't know what everyone else is talking about but I ran CM9 fine, specifically AOKP based on it.

We can wait if somebody port Ubuntu touch from HTC One... I hope...
I'd try it for sure
I've read that to build Ubuntu touch to our phone you only need to be able to compile from source like you would do it with cyanogen mod but as using cm as source use Ubuntu source and mix it with specific driver to our phone from CM sources

I don't know if it would be worth it. It isn't progressing very fast, I don't think there is even a dedicated app store yet.
It's like the HP touchpad, I really liked Web OS, but there just weren't very many apps. So I loaded Android on it.
Nothing is impossible.

anyone know whether you can use a touch ubuntu L720 s4 ..
is that I use in s3 (no 3g no wifi no network bluethoot) just to test ..
Now I would like to try it on my s4 .. thanks for the info
That would be cool, but i'd much rather see open webos ported to the HOS. That OS has always been my favorite.
