Anyone know how to MOD volume down button to turn off screen? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Pretty straight forward as far as the title goes. This was a MOD we have on HTC phones in VenomTweaks, but it is coded deep into the Tweaks.apk, so it was beyond my knowledge to port it over.
I do know that there is other ways to accomplish this task, was wondering if anyone had any input or ideas.
Thank you!,
Andy

kindacrap mods have this as an option. Also this is a guide on how to do it for the at&t s3 which may be helpful as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071970

Try pressing, and holding it for 2 secs or so, the green call button during a call!! It will work..
Thanks for the reply.
j_metselaars: It doesn't work. It's the green handset button right? Not the one on screen. Can you help me? Thanks.

My XDA 2 has no problems with this. It is stated in the maual anyway! But during a phonecall, you press and hold the green hardware button!!! Just as long as it takes to give you a certain Icon in the start bar.... It states speakerphone enabled...
That workes on my XDA 2 and should also work on XDA 1!!!

Droid X keyboard

anyone else try it out yet?

it seems to work good other than vibrate dont work.. but maybe one of you fine people that know what you are doing can fix that
bumping this. Has anyone gotten it working it on 2.2 droid yet? Or any froyo for that matter
Works great thanks!
Im using it right now... its great exept for the red flash when you press a key
within the symbols screen the "&" key looks messed up in portrait. anyone else get the text spilling over neighboring keys?
Yes, I get that as well. Couldn't say why, but it's not a "deal-breaker" for me, I'm still going to continue to play with this very cool k-board.
Man! This is almost a win. It doesnt vibrate on keypress. For some reason, my thumbs need that tactile sensation. Hopefully someone can fix this.

i'd love to get a fix for this. as well as the tactile feedback when typing.
can someone try one of these out and see if it works for your devices? If not, I will fix the & key for the Incredible
EDIT: forgot link

There was a version of this that had the haptic feedback enabled. Doesn't work with froyo as far as I can tell. I can't find the link, but it should be floating around on the forums somewhere.

Yeah I know that one doesn't I made them. I should have said that, sorry. I am just curious to see if that will work on your devices, because my friend is getting one. Those have haptic feed back, fixed & key, and are skinned

I can confirm that the Bblue.apk does work. I haven't tried the others, but I'm assuming they will work as well. Thanks a lot for these. I really like the black with blue highlight one a lot.

No problem glade you like it. I would make a post here for them, but no point to double post. Just subscribe to that thread. I will add more when I have more ideas for it. Also anything you might want, I will make just ask in that thread
Great Keyboard. No problems with key formatting on my Droid Inc.
Takes up a lot of space in landscape mode. I'll use it for a while to see how it works, but on first inspection, it looks just as useable as the HTC IME.

Love the keyboards. Any chance you could make a fix for the & key on the one available in this thread?
I think that I posted in this thread when this k-board just came out. I've been using it non-stop ever since and have no inkling of returning to the original.
I've been using the keyboard for a few weeks and while I like the size of the keys and the overall function of the keyboard I'm going to be moving away from it. I've gotten pretty fast on the soft keyboards and I noticed I began making way more typos with this keyboard than the stock keyboard or a couple others I have tried. The problem seems to be that in my haste I am pressing and releasing keys almost at the same moment and this keyboard doesn't like that. It will either only pick up one key, or in my case usually just ignore both and pick up the third key. I noticed a comment about my issue in the Droid X multi touch keyboard post in the dev forum.
It seems this is by design but it is a deal breaker for me since I ended spending more time having to go back and correct all my messages so they made sense. If this can be corrected, I would immediately switch back. Hope this helps someone else because it was driving me crazy.

Take screenshots w/o root permission

Hey guys,
Stock ROMs are my favorites; they bring stable experience for daily basis except for the ultra speed. (but stable means the most for me sometimes)
I used to root my previous phone only for some simple purpose, screenshots for example; then a few days ago I found a trick (from a forum written in Chinese, http://bbs.gfan.com/android-3345443-1-1.html) to do this without root permission.
Just press Power/Lock + Menu key (at the bottom left), the sticky note app will show up with an instant screenshot. Save it and you will get the screenshot in your /sdcard/quicknote/snapshot/ directory.
Hopefully this trick could help you out.
Note:
I've tested this on ME865, the Atrix 2, Asian Pacific version.
Other versions and models may not applied for this shortcut... sorry that I didn't noticed this before
Great! Thank you!
U sure this works on the a2?
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
I tried this several different ways and I was unable to duplicate this on the MB865, I am guessing this only works on the ME865.
Thanks anyhow though.

Same here...
However if you do want a good free no-root-necessary (on the A2 at least) then get Screen Grabber... by default it is set to use root but it works when you uncheck the "use root" option.

Did not work for me either, however as stated above, ScreenGrabber works great.

Sorry for my mistake, I confirm this shortcut works on ME, but not tested on MB.
I'm using an Asian Pacific ME865 device sales at Hong Kong.
Thats it. To capture screenshot, you need to do three combination keys.
Press "power on/lock + vol down + camera button". Hold three keys for 3 sec.
Tested on atrix 2 ics.
Y is this necessary.? We have stock screenshot capability right! Just hold power and volume down key together for 3-4 sec.!

Did either of you look at the dates of the original posts... almost a year ago now. Did you not think that things were different on 2.3.6 than they are in ICS now?
Please think and read thoroughly before posting or replying, including when and why someone might have posted something. I understand both of you are noobs, so consider this your first little slap on the wrist.
Be glad it was I that did this, as others may not be so nice in the future. We are a good group here, but not reading and making posts that are not well thought out or just plain not researching will get you things you do not want in here.
--EDIT--
Oh and by the way, Welcome to our little slice of XDA!!!

Yup in ICS we use just the power key + volume down key combination to take a screenshot
BTW do read the links posted by jim above.. theyre quite helpful, and just to let you know, some of old posts are related to GB, so do watch out for that post date before you reply to anything, can get very confusing otherwise.
Anyways, good to see a walking dead fan here :good:

[Q] Side buttons configuration

Hi
I wonder if there is a way to configure the volume side button to light the screen instead of the power button or do I just have to wait until natural evolution lengthen my pointing finger
Many thanks

I'm sure someone could make a MOD for rooted ROMs that'll do this. I've never seen anyone request this before, so I'm not sure how much luck you'll have getting that done unless you dev it yourself.
If I had short fingers, I definitely wouldn't have bought this phone, but using the power button isn't a problem for me.

I had to thank you for making me laugh! I don't mind where the power button is personally, just how it's implemented. It's angled forward, your finger reaches from the back which is what makes it difficult to push for me. I would have much rather preferred it be flat or angled towards the back.
Edit: I loved the power button on my Atrix, it was very easy and natural to me.

I'd like to see this mod too. I find the power button a bit hard to reach/push at times. It probably won't be a quick fix, but I'll do some digging.

It's actually a very common request/mod. CM7 ROMs have an option for it as well as some apps, like WidgetLocker, that have an option for it called "Easy Wake". Unfortunately, I haven't found an app that allows for it to work on the One X yet.

I didnt like the angle of the Atrix's power button bc it made me pick the phone up from my desk to wake it up, but i did like how it was recessed a little not to mention that the fingerprint scanner was one of the most useful features i've ever found on a phone. seriously.
There is an app called Button Remapper that does this (I use it on my Evo 4G). I'm not sure if it will work on the One X, I don't have mine yet.

We ever figure out how to add more volume steps?

Edit: Is this place even alive anymore? Where is everyone?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original: Seriously, I've tried everything I can find to add more than 15 steps to this thing. I've found ones that can take steps away but none that go higher than stock.
Is there anything? I really love using this as a DAP but the need to use on screen volume for fine adjustments has got to go!
Thanks!
Anybody? Can't find anything else about this and I would assume that considering this is a audiophile phone that someone here would know.
If you aren't using this as a audio player what are you doing with it?
I'm going to keep bumping this for an answer! I seriously can't find anything if anything is known.
Daily bump!
Anybody today got a answer or response?

My chances here aren't looking that great, are they?
Damn, forgot to post yesterday. It got away!
Didn't forget to reup today!
Look...if no one knows the answer have any suggestions on where else to ask?
well from what i have read throughout some threads around here, volume increase was usually a build prop related edit and also a xposed feature try looking around those areas of xda and if you are on nougat like me, we are both out of luck for any sort of modifications to our phones.

Holy **** someone replied!
Yeah, I can't find anything with those methods. I think it was the G4 Tweakbox that allowed me to change the volume from stock 75 limit to 50 limit...but it still had 15 steps of volume.
Other than that ONE thing I can't find ANYTHING else that works. No Build.Prop edits, no other XPosed modules work...nothing.

Assuming you still need this answer and you are willing to use Magisk for root, one of it's modules enables additional volume steps.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-volume-steps-increase-magisk-v10-t3554996
If you no longer have root...did you do any search? A quick search in google play store for "volume steps" found this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phascinate.precisevolume
I actually made a guide for this. It's for the V20, but it can probably be easily adapted for the V10 on Nougat. https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/themes/mod-enable-ro-config-mediavolsteps-t3699278
