Take screenshots w/o root permission - Motorola Atrix 2

Hey guys,
Stock ROMs are my favorites; they bring stable experience for daily basis except for the ultra speed. (but stable means the most for me sometimes)
I used to root my previous phone only for some simple purpose, screenshots for example; then a few days ago I found a trick (from a forum written in Chinese, http://bbs.gfan.com/android-3345443-1-1.html) to do this without root permission.
Just press Power/Lock + Menu key (at the bottom left), the sticky note app will show up with an instant screenshot. Save it and you will get the screenshot in your /sdcard/quicknote/snapshot/ directory.
Hopefully this trick could help you out.
Note:
I've tested this on ME865, the Atrix 2, Asian Pacific version.
Other versions and models may not applied for this shortcut... sorry that I didn't noticed this before

Great! Thank you!

U sure this works on the a2?
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App

I tried this several different ways and I was unable to duplicate this on the MB865, I am guessing this only works on the ME865.
Thanks anyhow though.

Same here...
However if you do want a good free no-root-necessary (on the A2 at least) then get Screen Grabber... by default it is set to use root but it works when you uncheck the "use root" option.

Did not work for me either, however as stated above, ScreenGrabber works great.

Sorry for my mistake, I confirm this shortcut works on ME, but not tested on MB.
I'm using an Asian Pacific ME865 device sales at Hong Kong.

Thats it. To capture screenshot, you need to do three combination keys.
Press "power on/lock + vol down + camera button". Hold three keys for 3 sec.
Tested on atrix 2 ics.

Y is this necessary.? We have stock screenshot capability right! Just hold power and volume down key together for 3-4 sec.!

Did either of you look at the dates of the original posts... almost a year ago now. Did you not think that things were different on 2.3.6 than they are in ICS now?
Please think and read thoroughly before posting or replying, including when and why someone might have posted something. I understand both of you are noobs, so consider this your first little slap on the wrist.
Be glad it was I that did this, as others may not be so nice in the future. We are a good group here, but not reading and making posts that are not well thought out or just plain not researching will get you things you do not want in here.
--EDIT--
Oh and by the way, Welcome to our little slice of XDA!!!
I am one of your devs in here, and I am sure you will see a lot of me.

welcome to the A2 community !
Yup in ICS we use just the power key + volume down key combination to take a screenshot
BTW do read the links posted by jim above.. theyre quite helpful, and just to let you know, some of old posts are related to GB, so do watch out for that post date before you reply to anything, can get very confusing otherwise.
Anyways, good to see a walking dead fan here :good:

Fuze dedicated CAMERA "button"

I see alot of reviews/ people complain how there is no camera button on this phone.
There is!
all you have to do is hold down the push to talk button and you get "camera!"
you press it once, you get "push to talk"
so there you go, you can use camera without having to click things on the phone.
Damn if it aint so! Nice post
Doesnt work on my Fuze

Actually, not mappable. Fuze hardcodes this button to PTT. Other roms re-map. Mine (running Da_G currently) still doesn't show the PTT button in button manager, but press=MSVC and hold=camera.

Well, lookey here, leaving the thread open uncovered something interesting: Different ROMs treat this button differently.

If I remember right Fuze does hardcode the button press to PTT (obviously), but the button manager did have an option to reassign the long press in the stock rom to whatever.
I never checked myself; I left the stock AT&T rom on long enough to mutter "POS as usual" then loaded up hardSPL....
I never used the stock rom for more then 20 mins, so i do not know.
i used the NATF 3.1 rightnow, and it works about 10x as good as teh NATF 2.3
however i notice the speaker volume is a bit low now.

[Q] Side buttons configuration

Hi
I wonder if there is a way to configure the volume side button to light the screen instead of the power button or do I just have to wait until natural evolution lengthen my pointing finger
Many thanks

I'm sure someone could make a MOD for rooted ROMs that'll do this. I've never seen anyone request this before, so I'm not sure how much luck you'll have getting that done unless you dev it yourself.
If I had short fingers, I definitely wouldn't have bought this phone, but using the power button isn't a problem for me.

I had to thank you for making me laugh! I don't mind where the power button is personally, just how it's implemented. It's angled forward, your finger reaches from the back which is what makes it difficult to push for me. I would have much rather preferred it be flat or angled towards the back.
Edit: I loved the power button on my Atrix, it was very easy and natural to me.

I'd like to see this mod too. I find the power button a bit hard to reach/push at times. It probably won't be a quick fix, but I'll do some digging.

It's actually a very common request/mod. CM7 ROMs have an option for it as well as some apps, like WidgetLocker, that have an option for it called "Easy Wake". Unfortunately, I haven't found an app that allows for it to work on the One X yet.

I didnt like the angle of the Atrix's power button bc it made me pick the phone up from my desk to wake it up, but i did like how it was recessed a little not to mention that the fingerprint scanner was one of the most useful features i've ever found on a phone. seriously.
There is an app called Button Remapper that does this (I use it on my Evo 4G). I'm not sure if it will work on the One X, I don't have mine yet.

which Flashlight app that turns on using power/volume switch?

I'm looking for a flashlight app that turn on using the power switch. Like double pressing the power switch turns on the camera flash.
I've looked at the play store and the net but cannot find one.
Thanks ☺☺☺

+1 I didn't think in this but I need it too . . .
So many of our devices have problems with faulty power buttons in later life that I can't see this being a good idea.

The problem you will have there is that changing the default function of the power button requires root access on the phone - that is why you get functions such as "Volume button to wake" on the HTC phones built in to custom ROMs. To root your phone you will almost certainly invalidate your warranty (according to the T&Cs at least). It's a no-win situation for you realistically.

[Q] Long press soft key configuration

Hi, I recently changed my rom (coming from slimbean), and in the previous one I had the possibility to configure the long press action of the soft keys, now, in shostock3 (current rom) I don't have that option. I was wondering if any of you knows a way to have something like that again? I did search, but I don't know if I'm looking where I shouldn't as I can't find anything and there must be any app that can do what I ask, anyway, Thanks!
You might be interested in experimenting around system/usr/keylayout/

Well, trying to find the post I just found out that I was posting here and not in the i777 forum, how silly lol. Anyway, I did some research and it turns out that keylayout files just modify the action of pressing the key, but to modify the long press action I have to modify something in android.policy.jar.. aand, that goes out of my knowledge, will have to learn how to later..

[Q] Sticky/Broken power button replacement

Last night I noticed my power button sometimes would not lock my screen on my phone. Even when it would, it would lock and quickly bring the screen back on. Even sometimes occasionally I would press the button once quickly and the power off/reboot menu would appear. This morning I found a tab for my quick settings panel that puts the phone into sleep and have been using it all day. This has been a real pita. Now my phone as I am using it randomly sleeps and then brings up the power menu. Is there any way to replace the power button? I found barely anything on YouTube on this and and not sure if it is an easy or hard fix. For now, is there an app that I can disable my power button so my phone does not make me rage?
-Thanks

You can buy a power button, but replacing it ...you need skill and tool (not recommend for an average user). Try to bang the button on a hard plastic surface like washer/dryer surface. A number of people reported success with this method.(this is real, not a joke),

I have to test it out first, but I think I can disable the power button, however, it's only a work around, you need to replace the button for a permanent solution. If under warranty, it's the best way to go.
