Need a little help rooting. Instructions are not working. - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
So I just picked up a Galaxy Note 10.1 today and of course I went to root it. I found instructions on several sites and they are all the same, so I figured I would just do it. I went with the instructions at http://rootgalaxynote.com/ and here is the issue:
I copied the SU file to the internal storage and took the MicroSD out just to be sure.
I booted into the unit using the power+volume down and then hit the power up to continue.
Got the downloading screen and ran Odin. Selected the "highonandroid..." into PDA and hit start. It went through and showed it was successful/passed.
I rebooted and then held down the power+up volume until the logo appeared and then let go of the power but continued holding the power up button per the instructions.
Instead of going into CWM it goes into "Android system recovery <3e>" with a dead Android dude with the red exclamation point.
The unit still boots fine into Android, but when I repeated the above steps it shows:
Product Name: GT-N8013
Custom Binary Downloaded: Yes (4 counts) (yes, tried it 4 times to see if I was just doing something wrong)
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
Now I did buy this tablet used, so I don't know what the previous owner might have done, but it seems what I'm doing should work regardless.
I've been Googling and searching here for about 2 hours now and I can't find anything that talks about this issue or what I can do to fix it. Would love to get this back to ground zero with a factory image but I can't even find the N8013 image. I looked on the sammobile.com site or whatever and only see the N8010 which might not be the same.
So if there is anyone that can help, I sure would appreciate it!

The problem seemed to be installing CWM. All of the other websites missed one key step that I noticed slightly different on here. So to help others in my dilemma, I'll point it out here.
When you go to use Odin to install CWM, turn off the checkbox for auto-reboot. Then, instead of rebooting, hold down the power and volume up key until it reboots and you get the logo. Then release the power button but keep pressing the volume up key.
Doing this allowed me to get into CWM and flash the SU zip file.
Hope this helps others. I'm going to have to send Zedomax a note to update his video!

Glad you got it working..

Yes unless you boot into CWM immediately after installing ODIN the system will override the stock recovery

[Q] Htc inspire boot problem

Hey there this is my first post here.
I have problems with my HTC INSPIRE 4G.
When i shut down or reboot my device take a long time in black screen, after that HTC logo an vibrating.. it takes like 5 minutes, i mean 5 minutes vibrating. after that vibrating stops and short time after that the CM9 logo and start. the whole process is about 10 minutes.
I don´t know if this is a hardware problem or software. Today i was trying to update my radio with fastboot. but i don´t even finish the process. in the part of ADB reboot, the device reboot and since that the problem is present.
What can i do? i can not get into recovery mode or bootloader.
i made a little research and over there is a procedure for fixing the soft brick with fastboot, but i don´t know if this is a brick or what.
Please Help
PS. Sorry for the bad english.
Your bootloader is messed up. Did you buy your phone used or did you root it yourself.

See if you can use aahk to flash a newer hboot version. It may not be able to because of the slowness. You can also use a PD98IMG to flash hboot from bootloader. I would try the aahk method first though.

What if i close the windows and try again?
Do you know how to use adb. You can boot to bootloader from pc using adb with the "adb reboot bootloader" command. If you can I have a PD98IMG you can load onto root of sd card that will prompt to install from bootloader screen. Due to the slowness though you will have to be patient.

You place that file in the root of your sd card (outside of any and all folders). Once you are in hboot, the system will check for it automatically, then it will ask you if you want to apply the update.

As teichopsia said load it on root of sd and boot into bootloader. When using adb to reboot you will end up in fastboot and will need to select bootloader. Give it time after that to find the image. Also in the future you will want to flash radios using the same method. All inspire radios are packed into a PD98IMG. You shouldn't need fastboot to do anything.

[Q] Storage Problem

I've essentially messed up my phone. I managed to root and install the paranoid android rom onto my HTC One S, but after this, I noticed that my phone thinks that it's supposed to have external storage. So, when I go into the camera app, it doesn't let me take pictures as there is no SD card. I can't connect my phone to the computer for some reason. But I am able to download apps from the Play Store. Please, please, please help.
Thanks in advance
Alex
PS: I installed the ROM ages ago, and I don't remember how I did it. I have clockwork recovery and fastboot. Thanks again.
Install goomanager then give it root access, and then hit menu and click install open recovery... Then do a backup of your Rom and try installing a new Rom and see if the error pops up again.

I have the app, the problem is that when I try to Install OpenRecoveryScript, it has to download a recovery image which I tried, but it just says the download failed because of the SD card.
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/ville/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-ville.img
Drop that file where your fastboot file is located and go into your bootloader and type "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-Ville.img" then "fastboot reboot-bootloader" then go into your recovery and try reflashing the Rom. Twrp is far better then clockworks.

Help needed for BRICK

I think I may have finally done it. I flashed the latest slim rom (vers 6) today, booted into the ROM and set it up. No problems. Then I flashed faux mainline kernel. I followed the instructions for the kernel install, and hit reboot as last step. The phone shut off and did not reboot. I am now unable to turn on, boot into recovery, or download mode. When I attempt to connect to the PC to try and ODIN back to stock, the phone will not connect to the PC. I have the latest Samsung drivers installed and have connected to my PC previously with no problems. I know I downloaded and installed the right version for my phone, I have flashed kernels many times before.
Am I screwed now? I have insurance on the phone, but really would like to get the phone back from the grave if at all possible. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.

Going through the history of my browser, it looks like I did a bone head and flashed a Nexus 4 kernel to my VZ GS3. Am I screwed?
Possibly ... Your kernel tells your phone what to do and how to do it ... If you can't get Odin to connect there's a big issues but I've never flashed a wrong kernel so research around a bit for more info ... You can't get into download mode or recovery mode??

Go to this site and read this page. Click the download button.

THIS. please do plenty of reading before attempting to flash roms, or even root for that matter. why would you root, unlock, and install a custom recovery if you have no idea what the recovery screen looks like ?
SIR. there are plenty of videos on youtube, threads on this site, and information in other places on this subject. read up . that is the only reason any of us know how to answer your questions.
without reading, i am sure as soon as you flash whatever rom you decide on, you will be right back here with more questions. if not BEFORE you even accomplish it. search youtube, and find a video on "how to flash roms using TWRP" there are plenty of videos. watch a couple.
there are also videos on almost every ROM that we have available, so you could check it out before you flash it.

I just want to say thank you for offering the best advice we can give to noobs( I am a noob and I'm not ashamed). I had never even heard of rooting before I got my galaxy s3 and I had no idea what I was doing when I rooted it. But, I got lucky. I found CASUAL and rooted my phone in literally 3 minutes. And the first time I saw the twrp screen I panicked, got lucky again when I chose reboot system, then I got sooooooo lucky when I accepted the OTA and lost my root but didn't have any serious problems. That was over a month ago and I have not rooted phone again because now, after all the reading I've done I can see very clearly how lucky I was. My point is, rooting and modifying our phones is serious business and we should understand what we're doing before we do it. And we should exercise some caution when offering advice.
Good luck to everyone in your endeavors and take care of your lovely little phones!

[Q] [Help]Attempting to Unroot Phone, Phone's Powercycling

Hello everyone. So today I tried to root my phone for the first time and all was fine. I could download and use apps that required root access. Then I tried to flash CM 10.1.3, and that's where things got messy. After I flashed, it was saying that unauthorized software was on my phone, and I had to go to verizon. I figured this was because my bootloader unlock didn't work. So I tried flashing a stock 4.1.2 rom, and now my phone's just powercycling. Any ideas? Yes, I am new to this, feel free to yell at me for being an idiot for forgetting some obvious thing.
I think you need to Odin back to a stock build and then repeat the entire process of rooting, unlocking, etc.
I could also be wrong, so we'll get yelled at together.

@Elerock, does powercycling = stuck at the Verizon LTE splash screen or boot animation? If so, boot into recovery (hold power, home, and volume up) then do a factory reset. Root and unlock following these directions.
