Ok, so I have an issue with my One X that I didn't have on my Galaxy Nexus. I was able to leave my bluetooth on (on the Gnex) all the time. When I got in the car, after a few seconds or so, it would connect. I never had to think about it. This was on AOSP, CM, or AOKP. No matter the build, it always worked this way.
With my One X, it never connects automatically. I feel like there's a setting I'm not seeing that I need to enable to allow it to act this way. If bluetooth is on, I have to manually tell it to connect to the stereo. Sometimes I have to shut off the bluetooth radio, turn it back one, etc etc.
This is on Sense Builds, AOKP, or CM.
Anyone have any insight? I feel like this shouldn't even be a thought. I should be able to just leave it on and never think about it.
Wrong section. Q's belong in Q&A. Let the mods know so they can move this thread.
Its not you, its the phone, or specifically the Bluetooth stack. Certain combinations of phones and Bluetooth devices (like your car stereo head unit) just don't play well together. Its the same on my car, which is a 2012 Subaru Impreza with factory head unit (which I understand is made by Kenwood). It work fine (mostly, sometimes the steering wheel controls to skip tracks won't work) once its connected. But it won't auto-connect and has to be connected manually every time I start the car. For other people's car stereos, it may work just fine.
There is nothing in Settings that will fix this. Further, I've messed with some of the system files to see if that would help (which some have pointed out has worked on other devices), but no good. I've also hoped that HTC would have fixed the problem with one of the firmware updates (as they sometimes update the BT stack when they update the firmware). But I've tried various builds, including the recent Sense JB firmware's, and the same problem persists.
I've reported the issue to HTC back when the phone was originally released in May. HTC support walked me though the usual steps of factory reset, update firmware, safe mode. But of course, none of this worked, and they logged the issue for further investigation. Aside from a change in the BT stack by HTC, I don't think there is much that can be done.
There are various apps and toggles and such that may make your life a bit easier (and others will likely suggest). And I'm using one now called Speed Enabled Bluetooth. But really, they are just half-a$$ed workarounds at best, and not a true fix. I wished the thing would just work like its supposed to.

As I already said, its dependent on the car stereo. Some will work, some won't. What make/model car, and is it the factory stereo or not?
My car is also a 2012 Subaru. its a wrx impreza, so we're in the same boat. guess its time to start looking into an aftermarket headunit.

i have a headset that i want to pair with my Charge, but for some reason when i try to pair it, it keeps telling me that the device returned a code that was incorrect,
first off the headset has no method of input, and second the phone never asked for a code, ive searched everywhere and cant find answers just people with the same issue that just decide to give up and get a new headset.
the Issue was there since EE4 (the version my phone had when i purchased it at the VZ store)
I now have EP4 with tweakstock, tried it with stock rom and still same issue
I know that the 2.1 should automatically exchange the codes is there a way to manually put in the code to the charge?
the head set works fine on a flip phone my brother uses, and im not sure if this is specific to the droid charge, or if this is Android in general as i dont have any way to test it.
any suggestions other than "buy a new one" would be great
oh come on! anyone?
See if another, newer headset has the same problem. If it happens again, it's the phone's bluetooth. If it pairs successfully then it's just an incompatible headset.
Really, there's no other way of testing. Just because one headset works with one phone, doesn't mean it'll work with another, but this isn't a common problem since Bluetooth headsets are mostly universal.

Hey guys, I'm sure a lot of you are already on one of the ICS roms already. First of all hail all devs who have made our life better before official releases!
However I have seen posts talking about them experiencing Bluetooth problems just like I am right now and mostly mentioning the Music player stuttering and similar issues like that.
My problem is a little different. My aftermarket car deck worked perfectly with all the phones I have connected to, including my GB i727. However after I flashed the ICS my bluetooth connection kept dropping out randomly. Starting with the deck not auto connecting when I get in the car. Then after I manually connect "Phone" in the menu, it will MOST LIKELY disconnect after (on average) 2 minutes with the "Media" still checked (although the connection is not shown on either the icon in the status bar or the display of the deck). Weirdest thing is, sometimes it actually keeps on working after it connects.
I didn't think that would be a problem for me because I don't use Bluetooth earphones and I use my iPod instead of my phone to play music in my car. So I even disabled my Holo Music and my Google Play... I'm on Sean's SKY ICS 4.2D
I am just wondering if bluetooth misfunctioning is a common problem on all current ICS roms for our i727 or is it just the rom I am on right now? Because I drive a Manual car, the hand free in the car is actually very needed for me. So spread your wisdom on the bluetooth issues please!
Thank you!
my jvc car radio doesn't work at all with bluetooth sense updating to sky I c s. The stock I c s leak seemed to work pretty well however. Now the phone vibrates as if it's going to force close then disconnects the bluetooth within seconds of connecting every time.
Strangely, the radio does continue to play for a few minutes even though the radio and phone both say the device is disconnected. All kinds of weirdness going on here! I am going back to the stock leak as soon as I have time to reinstall all my apps for the millionth time.
On a side note, my monster bluetooth speakers seem to work flawlessly with all the roms i have tried. Seems I need an exterminator as I am over run with bluetooth bugs!
I am a programer. I wish I had the time to work on these and help develop these roms. The developers here are some truly talented and generous folks! After finals next week, I will try to devote some of my time to helping out this community which I gain so much from. Thanks to all of you guys! I can't wait until cm9 is in beta/release stage! That will be a dream come true!

It worked, still does only on sky ice update 6, but the phone does not deep sleep, that's the problem so can't keep using that.
Hope official rogers will fix it.

My problem with Bluetooth is pairing to the car auduo. The phone can see the device, recognizes the type and tries to pair, but after putting a code I get a connection refused error. Previously worked with stock and custom 2.x.x rooms. From is now a 4.0.4 one.
Any ideas/suggestions?

Hi guys,
I have found in other forum, and it's working for me.
Break connection between car and S3, and delete devices both in car and phone.
Now try to pair them again but don't let car system to access contact and data in phone.
After I did this my connection is stable.
Guy who suggested this believes that Samsung sends too much data ( all accounts data)and car system freezes).
Hope this works for you too

I've been cruising on cyanogenmod 7.1 for about 2 years now, and since the auto store no longer reads OBD II codes for customers, I decided to purchase one of the $10 Bluetooth ELM 327 devices off ebay, and use the Tourque app to read the data from my car.
The app works great, but it only works if you have a notification pop up asking to pair with the device, and I've only been able to get BT to work with this device so far with a 4.2.2 ROM --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204963 (only JB one I've tried). The other ICS ROM's I've tried so far along with CM 7.1 just won't connect. Has anyone else found a good ROM that works, or a way to trigger a bluetooth notification?
Basically, I turn on Bluetooth in all the ROMs, it detects the device, I select the device, and it says "Paired but not Connected" If you long press or hit the gear symbol, the only option is to "unpair". Pairing with other phones works perfectly fine, but with this device the option/notification to connect never comes up.
Anyone know of any ROMS prior to Jellybean that work with similar BT devices? .. Dunno if there is a way to trigger a notification; I do like JB, but once everything I need is working, my #1 goal is then responsiveness.
Any ideas/insights/experiences are much appreciated.
Have you tried any Sense roms?
Well, as it turns out, after I did a complete wipe, and was trying cyanogenmod 7.2 out, I was able to connect..... in fact, I'm able to connect on good ole 7.1 as well, and mytouchUXv3... which I didn't want to uninstall- seemed to have a snappier ui. I have no idea why I was unable to connect yesterday, but on whatever ROM i've tried today, if I start bluetooth, then run the torque app, then go back to the bluetooth app with the torque app running, and select pair/unpair/pair/unpair, it connects pretty soon. *scratches head*
One reason I stick to cm 7.1 is that I've read of many users experiencing diminished battery life with cm 7.2

I've been using CM10.1 for the past year and have had sucess with my Bluetooth OBD II reader.
Here is the ROM I have been using. The camera is a bit slow on this ROM but other than that I love it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204963
Just to confirm, it ALSO works well with Vipertouch 2.1.4.
Buddy of mine passed me his cheap ELM ODB II Bluetooth unit, (he could not connect to it, since he had some chinese S3 knockoff phone).. Worked perfectly first time.
Paired no problem, and connected using Torque Pro and read quite a few of the sensors on my honda without an issue.
Thanks to all the devs for keeping these older phones alive..
Hey guys,
I have a bluetooth headphone (Wearhaus Arc), which I had to sent in for repair recently. Since I have them I faced with connection issue, but sometimes it worked at the first go. Also because I wasn't able to update to firmware, the support told me to return it. Before doing so I unpaired the headphone from my phone (HTC One M8 running latest official stock unbranded Android 6.0).
Since I got headphone back, my phone isn't able to "see" the headphone. Bluetooth is on and the headphone as well, but for my phone it's like the headphone isn't there/switched on. I did some pairing testing with other phones (HTC Sensation, BlackBerry Q10, HTC HD2), which found the headphone immediately and worked fine. So my guess is, that only my M8 has a problem with it. Pairing, unpairing and "repairing" (pairing again) between my M8 and the other mentioned phones worked well, so there can't be an general bluetooth issue.
After doing a factory reset on my M8 I'm a step futher, because now the phone sees the headphone (somethimes), but it isn't able to establish a connection. In case my M8 sees it, I tap on the available devices, the phone tries to connect, but a second later I get the message: "unable to pair. Make sure your devices are on and discoverable, and then try pairing again". Rebooting the phone does not work. I also cleared the data and cache of the bluetooth share app and performed a network reset like described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/htc-one-m8-bluetooth-wont-android-6-0-t3340279
My question to you guys is, what can I do, to get the headphones to work?
Is it possible, that the phone has is still a piece of information left about the former connection, which refuses any new connection?
Is there a file on the phone, which stores the bluetooth connections? if yes, maybe deleting or editing the file could help?
Thank you in advance!

Are you sure that the Bluetooth antenna of your phone is working correctly? It sounds like its an issue of the phone.

Maybe, but as I have written, my M8 can be paired in both directions with the other mentioned phones flawlessly. That's why it actually can't be a general issue, right?
Is there a possibility to test the Bluetooth antenna?

I saw in another thread that suggested going into developer options and switching Bluetooth AVRCP to v1.4 instead of 1.5. Did you try that one too?
Ya tried that, it's less severe but still happening. Iv isolated it to vw head units i think.
I was having a similar issue with my Bluetooth headphones. It kept cutting in and out while my headphones worked fine with my iPhone.
I'll be using my headphones again this evening so lets see if it happens again and if I can get more details.
I've had no problem with it in a Toyota Yaris. Also no problems with BT headphones - it's even a bit better than the U11 BT, which used to skip now & again. Had to set BT to 1.4 for full control in the car.

Maybe VW has been updating their software and you could drive by a dealership to update or do it yourself. Since Oreo came out I also had problems with BT. No media info was shown. The problem seems to be Oreo 8.0. In 8.1 Google solved some of these problems.
Since Ford brought out an update everything works fine now. Hopefully Android P has covered all these bugs.

Found some solutions on Google that you could try out:
Settings>Apps>Application list>... >show system apps>Bluetooth>force stop, then clear data.
If this doesn't work, remove the pairing, repeat above and redo the pairing.
Or
Reset Network settings fixes the Bluetooth problem after Oreo Update. Settings > Backup & Reset > Network Settings Reset and everything works like charm.
Or
Change of Bluetooth Audio Codec (Settings -> Advanced -> Bluetooth Audio Codec) from SBC to aptX seemingly fixed it.
Hope one of them helps. Good luck!

I have also experienced this with my VW. I listen to audio books mostly and every so often a word drops out and it gets annoying.
Iv just had to switch to using the aux. Awful annoying, brand new phone and brand new car and ****ing bluetooth doesn't work properly.
I still connect to the bluetooth for calls only which has created a side problem too where if I get a call its not sending the sound through the bluetooth by default i need to manually select it.

Re: Bluetooth music choppy
Thank you phxzy , all!! Having the same annoying issues with my HTC U12 Plus Bluetooth in my car. Maps misses a lot of verbal directions and music is horrible.
Thanks for the many suggestions!! I'll try them this weekend!!
I just have some cheap BT device I found at a local discount store but I only occasionally have the choppiness. When it happens it's like the audio continues and I miss a few seconds of the audio. My main issue is more that it stops the playback altogether. It doesn't seem to disconnect just the playback stops/pauses and has to be restarted. This whole time I've been under the impression that it's the player/app but I'll try some of the advice given here and see if I can get it to improve. Thanks
