DVD resolution

What's the best resolution to use for ripping a DVD to the Prime and then what would be the best for ripping a blu-ray to it?
I'm using DVD fab

This is transformer forum and not prime
Tip: you can play DVD with menu with Daroon player.

ya this isn't the prime section but 720 is the max that the screen can play i believe 1080 is the max hdmi out

you can play 1080P
on your prime
no problems
without HDMI out
im playing Fluent 1080P on my Galaxy s2
and fluent 720P and my eee pad TF101

i mean that you can't actually play 1080p on the screen considering its 800x1240
720p is the max that the screen can play

[Q] Does anyone else feel disappointed with Google Play Movies Quality?

I bought an "HD" movie from the play store, but it really doesn't seem like HD. Its supposed to be 720p, but just doesn't seem that high def.

You should try couple "HD" movies before we can make a comment. Possible just a few are not up to 'HD" standard! just a thought.

I have purchased 4, but have only watched one so far on my Transformer. I'll watch the rest soon.

You have to find a good Quality bluray rip.
Some file that I have look really good, some don't. The market HD are 720, if you get a 1080 bluray rip they look Great. Remember your on a tablet NOT a T.V. I'm am satisfied. Very happy with the playback. :good:

Something you ought to know and remember:
Infinity TF700= 1920x1200 pixels
'HD 720' films = 1280x720 pixels
These so-called HD films are meant for a TV, which usually have a maximum resolution of either 1280x720 (HD) or 1920x1080 (Full HD).
Yes, your TV screen resolution is SMALLER than your tablet. Thus, the image is zoomed in on your tablet, making the quality degrade in the proccess. In the case of 720p, the viewsize is 150%. Meaning, there's a 50% zoom.

So is it worth buying the HD movie or should we just buy the regular movie if we just watch it on the tablet.

What's even more annoying is that when you spend 20 bucks on a movie through Google you can't even watch it on your tv through a hdmi cable. The screen goes blank every 5 minutes.

It has been my experience that even watching an "HD" movie from the play store on my TV looks just as bad or worse than watching it on my tablet. I tried watching Prometheus on my tab the other day, and it looked awful as well. It seems like the best option here would to just get some sort of blu-ray ripper and get movies that way, although I guess that seems to be frowned upon by some organizations.

I Agree, I got a couple of movies for a flight and they weren't high enough quality to call HD, zoomed in or otherwise. The amount of pixelation was disappointing. Not just pixels around objects but that big blocks of blur kind of pixelation.
I'm hoping it gets better.. Also if it matters, I downloaded the rental, not streamed.

Video Playback?

I understand the Nexus 5 has a very high quality 1080p display. I plan on buying one soon and wanted to know since the quality of the screen is so good if it would affect the quality of playback on lower resolution video.
If someone could test out playback with a 720 x 400 video clip please let me know the results of the clarity of the video. Thanks to anyone who helps!

I didn't test it because it isn't necessary. You said it yourself, it can playback 1080p video, easily. None the less, it'll play lower resolution videos just as great. Resolution playback will be the played in the resolution it was recorded in. So if the video was recorded in 480p, it won't play it in 144p or 720p. Just 480p

So a 480p video scaled to match the full screen of the nexus 5 won't look pixelated or anything? Sorry I am sort of a noob.

It'll look 480p. It won't be crisp and sharp like 1080p but 480p. As for full screen and such, you can control that

Random question on screen resolutions.

I'm just curious and I think I know the answer but I'm watching a "720p" movie on a qHD phone connected to my 1080p TV, which according to it only supports MHL out in 720p. Am I watching the movie in qHD b/c it's on my phone or 720p because it's on the TV as well?

You are watching at 720p as your phone won't upscale the image

[Q] 1080p feed through HDMI from a 1024x768 tablet

[Q] My device's screen and sending a 1080p feed through HDMI
Are these two things connected in any way? From what I understand, my current 1024x768 tablet can only send a 1024x768 feed that is upscaled to 1080p. Will buying a 2048x1536 device ensure getting a Full HD picture using HDMI? My TV doesn't support subtitles so I have to hook up a tablet to it. I want to get Full HD quality when playing video files.

Is this possible? Or is 1024x768 upscaled to 1080p the best I can get with my current device?

Yeah, that will give you 1080p (downscalled i guess).
