I picked up a used one s (s4), so I dont know what was done with it before i got it, but it looked stock with the 1.08 radio flash w/rom and stuff (1.14 hboot). After a few hours the audio died, speaker, ear speaker, headphone, and bluetooth audio would cause a reboot. I have tryed rooting/flashing just about everything kind of combination of things. After a new wipe/flash the audio will work for a bit (sec to hours) and sometimes after reboots. This makes me think its a software bug. I have yet to downgrade hboot (next step?) and play with the radio. But i think openDSP in hboot may be related. can someone point me in a direction to find our more about openDSP? i tryed to google it, no sutch luck. Is there a way to flash openDSP? Any help would be great!
[Q] what is openDSP? can it be flashed?

the speaker suddenly work again, but after I use the ptravel alarm, the speaker dropped dead, and need to flash the ROM to make it works again....
Hey all, I am having some trouble with my Magic and I was hoping the community might be able to help me out.
I have a rooted Rogers Magic, and I have no sounds, system wide. No ringer, no notifications, no sound in youtube etc. The earpiece volume in a call works, but speakerphone doesn't. Unfortunately, I bought the phone and immediatey rooted and modded it without first testing that the device worked, so I'm not sure if the problem I'm having was a pre-existing problem, or something that came from my modding.
When I boot into fastboot mode, this is what is shown on the screen:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Apr 20 2009,15:30:43
For a Recovery platform I am using RA-magic-v1.3.2H
I have had this problem with Cyanogen 4.2.4, Cyanogen 4.2.5, HoFo Community 3.0.7, and with the base Rogers files that Nandroid backed up before I loaded anything custom.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? I remember back from my WinMo days that flashing the wrong radio could cause sound problems on certain devices, but I'm too new to Android to really know.
Finally, if there's no software fix and it seems that the hardware is to blame, is there a way to restore the phone to a virgin state to get it serviced?
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
More Info
I have determined that the sound issues I am having with my Magic are not caused by faulty (or at least COMPLETLY faulty) hardware. It seemes that after a few complete restarts and shutdowns, I am able to coax sound out of the device on both the base Rogers ROM which I am restoring through Nandroid backup, and within the HoFo Community ROM 3.0.7.
The strange thing is that after a few minutes of playback in the HoFo ROM, the phone suddenly goes silent, sometimes in the middle of playing a sound, and only a complete restart will fix the problem.
I am also wondering why the device shows as SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN in the fastboot and hboot menus?
I think I solved it. Seems I may not have been wiping ALL data when changing ROMs. Prowess wiping technique seems to be key. ;-)
I unlocked my G18 with the HTC-dev, and then I flashed recovery and flash a custom rom, but found my Wifi can't be turned on. So I checked the bbs and flash the boot.img into my g18, then Wifi works again. But after only about one week, I found it doesn't work again, and flashing boot can't work anymore, and I found even the Bluetooth and Radio can't be turned on also. I thought maybe it's the s-on's fault, so I download the Juopunutbear S-OFF and make the wire-trick. Now I did it, it goes s-off! But after I flashed another custom rom, I found the wifi, bluetooth and radio still not work. I'm so despaired ! May someone help me? Now I think maybe there are some thing wrong with the hardware but not the software? (Sorry for my poor English)
hi
i upgraded my phone to another ROM and also upgrade to higher firmware, everything works great except the speaker(the small one that is closer to the ear) i tried to change to other roms and also tried to use different radio version but it still doesn't work.
if i plug an earphone or i push the loud speaker than i do hear the conversation but when nothing is plugged and i want to use the default speaker so there are no sound at all
what should i check?
where can be the problem?
thanks!!!
First have you tried downloading the firmware again? Could be something with the download.you said you have tried different roms and the issue still persists? Some roms I've noticed make my volume lower than others. Have you tried viper Rom? My volume is very loud on that Rom. If the issue still persists then I would guess it's a problem with the device its self. Perhaps take it for repair in a local shop.or send it and use warentee. Try downloading firmware again? I wish I knew of a better fix but I don't. And if the problem persists on several different roms, then my guess would be its device related. Sometimes for issues your better off finding a local repair shop, they usually repair same day and you don't have to send your device away. My local shop has fairly reasonable prices for repair. I'd look into that if no one else knows of a fix ...I hope this helps and best wishes to you! But do first try a fresh download of the firmware incase the first download was corrupted some how. Make sure it's a new download don't use the old one. Then try the different roms, if it still persists take for repair.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
still doesn't work
I tried installing again the firmware and the viper ROM but the results are the same.
I also disassembled the phone and checked the vibrator engine and the speaker and they both work (I took a AA battery and wired it to the vibrator and it rotats and the speaker make noise, so the hardware is o.k)
I took it to the nearest shop and they also dont know what is the issue about.
everything worked fine before i upgeated the firmware and tryed different roms.
what else should i try?
maybe i should to downgrade the firmware? how should it be done?
no
why no one answer?
is there any problem in my post?????????
Hi I suppose you could try to downgrade the firmware but ics must be ran on 3.2 or 3.33 .to change your firmware you would do the exact same procedure as when you upgraded it. So to change to 3.32 from 3.33 you put the pg58img file at root of sd card. Boot into bootloader by pulling battery insert battery and then press volume down and power at the same time. The device will recognize the file and Ask to continue, press power for yes . Remember once it's up loaded to remove the pg58img file from sd card or device will continue to try to update in bootloader. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
sent from HTC sensation, soff, 3.33 firmware, viper Rom, sense 4.1, mugen battery. please press thanks if I helped in anyway.
Alright, I'm coming from a series of issues that started with a battery issue. Battery not charging / blinking led, then charging but not fully, then when in use drops super fast, short charge it jumps up.. etc...
Anyway, I have tried a multitude of wipes sdcard / data / factory reset / cache / dalvik etc.. when installing roms.. cm 11 & 12 , viper 5.2.1 and viper 5.3, android revolution, etc... The battery problem remained but somewhere the sound stopped working lol. even across dif roms.. i made a call while playing a song and i could hear the song with my call on the ear speaker.. so made me think it was being misrouted to the wrong speaker.. some kind of driver / firmware / radio / ril issue i thought.
so i went to find the appropriate radio and ril file and flashed the radio via adb fastboot.. and the ril via 4ext as was instructed. the RIL i used is HTC-RIL_4.0.0037HMQ and the radio I used is mainver: 3.33.401.55. I then wiped data / factory reset and flashed this rom: pac_pyramid-RC-3-20141103 .. which is the updated version of this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2670076 according to their website (pacman website)..
so now the issue is it is not recognizing my sim card at all.. so i think maybe i've used the wrong radio or ril .. i can't tell for certain on the various sites if it is in fact incorrect for htc sensation 4g tmobile.. so i flashed the full PG58IMG.zip with mainver: 3.33.401.106 that i had used before.. ( i might have the two mainver #'s in this post mixed up.. i'm not sure at this point )
no idea what to do to find the right radio / RIL file.. fastboot bootloader is still working, 4ext is still working.. the pacman rom i flashed is working except for the no signal because no sim card issue. the battery seems to be working a little better, but i'm not exactly sure as i haven't been able to really test it yet.. btw i have 3 batteries now.. all different manufacturers (htc, anker, and deep stretch) all were doing the same thing..
if anyone might point me in the right direction or assist me in getting the right radio / RIL for sensation 4g tmobile in oklahoma that would be super great. thanks in advance.
update: alright i installed pac_pyramid_4.4.4.RC-2_20141014-043542 rom and it is now reading my sim card again and connecting. i still have NO SOUND... can anyone possibly help me with this. i know it has nothing to do with the rom.. as i get no sound on all the ones i've mentioned... putting pressure on the speaker doesn't do anything.. the phone is in excellent condition.. should i find a different RIL file or something???
