YouTube intermittently working - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

So I'm on a rooted and debloated stock Rom. When I first installed, YouTube would only work over WiFi, on mobile data would always get connection to server failed. It quit doing it a few weeks later. Now its doing it again and nothing in the forums I've found will make it work. Deleted, reinstalled, played with apn settings, everything. I'm on 4g so it should work. Related videos and comments load immediately, just no video. Any thoughts?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

Also noticed that I can't send mms messages when its doing this. Can receive though. So whatever causes YouTube to not work is also affecting the ability to send mms.

SMS not showing notifications

The last few days I haven't been getting any notifications of sms. I am on stock 1.73, no root, stock sense sms app. No other sms apps installed. It's getting really frustrating when the wife texts me and I don't get it (and even more frustrating for her). I've checked all the notification settings and they're all checked.
Any thoughts on what to do? I think I'm just going to take it back to att and swap it out for a new one.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
My first One X did that. I replaced it and my new one notifys me every time.. Return it.

Do you by any chance have the Visual Voicemail app running (either the market or the XDA hacked version). It was preventing my sms form reliably notifying me (about half of the time). Removed, and fixed.
Did you check the settings in the SMS app itself? There are seperate ones for SMS if you go messages>menu>settings>notifications

Uninstall and should fix your problem. At least that was my solution .
Go to SMS settings the notifications check vibrate on receive.

I just uninstalled my visual voicemail and will see if that helps
My wife and I each have this phone, and we both downloaded VVM app. After a few days I decided to uninstall mine but my wife kept hers, and she isn't getting (or randomly gets) sms notifications. I get all notifications promptly. I am going to uninstall VVM and see if that works. Also both phones are stock and not rooted.
Have this problem as well but don't have the VVM app. Stock 1.7, no root or unlock, no secondary sms apps.

Mine seems hit and miss. Sometimes there will be the flashing light. Sometimes there won't. I just turned on the vibrate when received option to see if that will affect it any.

It's been a while - did uninstalling VVM work for you?
I installed VVM from the .apk that was floating around and she has issues with missing SMS notifications. She'd much rather have accurate notifications than VVM.
Does uninstalling after you've set VVM up have any ill effects? Does traditional voicemail still work OK?
Thanks,
-Brett.
Hey everyone having this issue - I have had this REALLY frustrating issue, with no solution found (and Telstra unable to provide help), so I widened my search to all phones. It appears to be an even bigger issue with some WP7.5 phones if that makes you feel better.
Anyway, what the issue seems to be is as follows:
The SMS message is sent from the carrier and received perfectly according to their reports, and in actual fact it is received perfectly, but here's the catch:
Messagebank does not receive a NEW message, it UPDATES the existing SMS you probably have in your phone!
SOLUTION: It's not a great one, but if you DELETE the Messagebank SMS text message thread every time you have received one and checked the voicemail, the next voicemail you receive will notify you properly as every other SMS does.
Hope this helps someone until a better solution is found (auto-delete voicemial texts anyone?).
Why are you guys still on 1.73?
This got fixed (along with lots of other things) ever since I upgraded to 1.85. If you don't want to upgrade for whatever reason, I heard some people used GoSMS instead and that worked.

[Partially solved][Q] Couple of strange problems...

Hey guys I'm having a few issues with my phone and if anyone has had these problems before and have any fixes.
I'm running Cyanogen 2013-02-01 with stock kernel
1. I seem to be having problems with sending mms messages when over wifi. Now with this though, I can perfectly send them over 4g etc. If I happen to turn turn wifi ON I have to go into recovery and wipe the cache and dalvik cache before I can send a mms again over 4g, otherwise it might take a day or three to send the message.
2. Having strange thumbnail previews of pics as you can see in the pic. But this is also going on on my desktop after uploading the photos from say dropbox or anything. This doesnt happen to every photo but it's irritating because it will cover the view of the photo I may want to view.
pic url too: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u7trfxtf2zus4ir/2013-06-16 18.30.42.png
If anyone has any ideas or solutions aside from flashing (personal reasons about backing up) I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks!
Figured I would update the OP;
Partially Solved - The thumbnail icons was partially solved by doing quite a bit more digging and found that I should delete the thumbs.db file in the DCIM folder. I did that and only a few images were fixed. Also the MMS seems to be fixed as I believe it had probably been a bad flash because I did get the time to do my OCD backups and reflash/restore what I needed to so a fresh flash seemed to do the trick for now. Thanks for the info guys!
You cannot send mms over wifi. Mms will always be sent using data. Even if you are on wifi, data needs to be toggled and you will see the 4g icon appear as the message sends even while you're connected to a wifi network
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
That helps a bit, but I have data still toggled on and still doesn't send. :/

That's weird. Cm7 was always nice to me with Mms as long data was toggled. Have you checked apn settings?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Cyanogenmod uses its own custom messaging app. To restore mms over wifi, you need to flash the stock one. It should be available in the CM7 topic, maybe hellfire phoenix.

I haven't had any types problems regarding data/call/cell etc. So I didn't think of that. I'll double check them.

I should of also mentioned I use the Handcent app for messaging and such and never had this problem before. I remember back in old threads something about mms and wifi being a problem at one point but didnt think that would apply to CM by now. I'll go back and do some searching see if there is a fix.
maybe try the go sms app. and try checking the option for it to handle all your sms stuff. its the option you check if youve uninstalled your stock sms app. because it might just be a bug in the stock sms app.

Hangouts MMS Issue - Resolution?

I have read another thread on here with people having the issue of VERY delayed MMS using Hangouts. Just wondering if there is a definitive resolution to this yet, or if anyone even knows what the root cause is? I'm guessing its not the app in and of itself, otherwise one would think it would happen on every device.
Wonder if manually entering an APN would help.
Just looking for ideas...
I will say this. I tested using the stock Messaging app, and everything seems to work as quickly as expected. I love using Hangouts, but perhaps until a proper fix is found, I just need to use the native stock app
I'm also having SMS/MMS issues using hangouts with this phone, seems like even regular SMS messages sometimes take up to 5 minutes to send, and usually send 2 or 3 of the same message, and I'll receive duplicate messages back. It's strange, i had zero problems with hangouts on the previous HTC One using hangouts, hopefully an update or something fixes it.

Hmmm.. SMS works flawlessly, but if I try to send to multiple recipients or send a picture, it may take a good five minutes or more. And if you delete the picture, it just pops back up later.
Stock works fine, I just want it all in one
I have no problems with regular SMS with Hangouts. MMS is slow. Think every MMS I've received had to retry before I got it.
This happened when Hangouts was first released when using on the HTC One M7. We're probably going to have to wait for an update from Google before it's fixed.

[Q] MMS on Verizon

Sup guys.
Loving the M8--it's gorgeous and functional in almost every way I ever could have wanted.
However, I'm finding that using MMS has been kind of a pain. Coming from a gnexus up to date with cmod, I never had any problems with group texts over MMS, but it's been a source of annoyance on the M8. I started off using Hangouts, only to find that I got the annoying "tap to download" message on incoming texts to the group, and even with that, I realized that the MMSes delayed significantly (like five to ten minutes).
I've now switched to the HTC messages app, but it's not ideal either. Group texts arrive on time, but they also show up as individual texts before the app organizes them into the group. In general, I also just prefer using the Hangouts app and having all my messages (Hangouts, SMSes, and MMSes) in one place.
Anyone else running into this problem? It's a pain.
I had similar issues with receiving MMS, it had something to do with the APN settings. Do a search for VZW APN on Google and you should find a solution.

Clear cache on the apps you're using.
Then, go to settings, network, CDMA options, access point names, touch the 3 dots, reset to default, restart your device.
Done.

This does not work if your on Wifi.... apparently multiple people including myself cannot send MMS when your connected to Wifi using Hangouts. If I turn wifi off, its fine. I have reset, tried the above, etc... 3rd party MMS work fine on wifi, as well as the built in VZW and HTC app. Hangouts works fine with MMS and wifi on my Note 3...
There are a few threads on this scattered about already.

There is no Network for me in Settings. I'm using latest Viper rom if that makes a difference? There's Mobile data, call and that's about it as far as "Network" is concerned for what options i have in Settings.
Found it. For me it was Settings, Mobile Data, then what you posted...

Go directly through hangouts app then. Under sms, the option is there.

Open the Verizon messages app and back up all of your sms just in case. It's actually kinda handy for a Verizon app.
Your sms xml should have zero effect on your outgoing network traffic. Several people who reported an issue are using a different kernel and flashed the newest update. It could be that or the combo of the two.

Download scrosler's stock ROM, clear cache and dalvic, then install it. Use titanium backup, or other app to remove hangouts. If you have XForceEnter Xposed mod, disable it.
If none of that works, throw your M8 into the wall... LOL!
Just kidding. Don't do that.

Phone stopped receiving MMS

Hey guys,
Here's the story. I'm on AT&t. Got my Nexus 5 last week, put my sim card from my LGOG into it. Everything worked beautifully (including MMS) and I was crying tears of joy.
Root it. Installed gravity box, noticed I had ten million quick settings tiles. Become giddy and click happy. Clicked one that toggled data type (LTE/2G/3G). MMS broke. Can't figure it out. Stopped clicking things. Uninstalled gravity box.
Change every APN setting after reading countless forums. Does absolutely nothing. Decide to wipe and install Cyanogen 11. Upon reboot after fresh install, 1 pending picture message got sent. Couldn't send anymore even after rebooting again.
Messed with all the apn's I saw fit, still nothing. Go to AT&T, completely useless but added my IMEI to the account. Got 1 picture to send upon rebooting again, then all the others failed just like before. Not sure what to do, occasionally crying tears of not joy.
Any ideas where to start to diagnose this?
I wouldn't know, this problem just sounds weird. But assuming the problem isn't network based and is on your side, I'd try flashing the latest factory image using fastboot.

Pretty late update, but flashing the stock fixed it so I had been running that for awhile. Slowly started adding root apps back here and there (i was convinced it had something to do with Xposed) but noticed once I installed Adblock I could no longer recieve any messages. Started digging around the internet and found this thread on their forums: https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=11755&start=15
It states for AT&T users to set the MMS port to 8080 and it worked! Weird that I hadn't run into this before on any other phones as I've been using adblock forever. I had to do it in the Mobile Network APN settings and Hangouts.
