Phone won't boot into ClockworkMod Recovery - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi,
I currently have ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.2.3 installed and am using ROM Manager Premium 5.5.1.5 to attempt to install CyanogenMod.
I have the correct rom downloaded for the Verizon version, but every time I try to boot into the ClockworkMod recovery, the standard Android Recovery screen comes up instead.
I have followed about 3 different tutorials, and each ended in the same result.
Any idea what could be going on?
Thanks!

Sounds like user error. If you're rooted, you can use EZ Recovery from the play store to flash your recovery of choice.

How did it fail?

I am having almost the same problem. I rooted my phone using this:
<< 03.06.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v5.06.1 with CWM 6.0.3.2 based recovery >>
DDLSC - DXLSE - JPLSB - XXLT6 - ZSLO2 Fixed for bootloop
ZCLSF (no bootloop fix, proper default.prop)

as it matches my phone make, build, kernel's date, model, etc. The trouble is when I go to recovery mode from ROM Manager it just stops on its way showing me this green little robot and a progress bar in the middle and it could stay like this for hours without moving anywhere. I have to press my power button and then it moves on and reboots into CWM. I have tried a whole lot of different rootings methods but ROM Manager v5.5.3.7 simply refuses to work with PHILZ-CWM6-DDLSC-ODD-5.06.1-SIGND.ZIP... I am completely lost...
Could anybody suggest / advise anything please? I would highly appreciate it Many thanks in advance!
I am on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, Samsung Galaxy Note GT N7000, build number is JZ054K.N7000DDLSC, baseband version is N7000DDLS6, kernel version is 3.0.31 – 906407 March 6, 2013.

[Q] I messed it all up in nexus s!

First of all,
I updated to 4.0.3
then i would like to root my phone..
I used a guide found on the nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-root/how-to-root-nexus-s-or-nexus-s-4g-on-ics-or-gingerbread/ and then i installed rom manager free from market and i tried flashing cwm recovery inside rom manager.
But rom manager was fc and i decided to google it to find an other way to install cwm recovery.
Then i found this guide nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-force-your-nexus-s-into-clockworkmod-recovery/ and i followed this exactly, hoping that it could be easy to flash the new 4.0.3 rom again.
When i try to open bootloader mode and select recovery a sparking android is showing up an then only the lights from the touch keys are glowing.!
When i press either (Vol- and Power) or Power Clockwork Mod recovery shows up and when i try to install zip from sd it shows status 7 installation aborted. I searched forums that proposed to wipe all data and dalwik data.
I did all these and also status7 shows up every time i try to flash a rom.
I ask for your help!!!
updated your cwm recovery to 5.x.x.x. and dont expect help or no one will help, ask for help instead.
you are right i wrote by mistake.

I suggest you to download the stock gingerbread for your model from Rom Manager and install it as update.zip. That will unroot your phone. So root it again and try flashing new roms (cm9 or ICS). You should flash kernel after flashing the rom.

Alright guys I'm stuck :( (soft brick? ) please help

I did a lot of reading before I got into hacking my s3. I'm pretty new to the android development of Samsung phones, so the terms Odin and kexec are a little unfamiliar to me. I've owned and rooted and flashed 4 different HTC phones within the past 2 years successfully. But Samsung is a new ball game for me. And to my limited knowledge, I'm stuck and I'm hoping you guys can help me out.
Here's the process of what I did to my phone that got me to where I am.
1. I was able to root my phone and flash the custom recovery using using Adam outler's program successfully
2. I downloaded ez unlock boot loader from the play store and then successfully unlocked my boot loader
3. I tried to make a nandroid but I didn't know how to with the recovery I had. So I installed Rom manager and flashed cwm.
4. I downloaded the custom bean build 8 ROM, fully wiped, and attempted to flash the Rom with the Rom file sitting on the root of my phone's "sdcard"
- The zip seemed to flash correctly but then after I reboot from recovery, the screen would be sent back into recovery for some odd reason.
- I even tried to repeat the flashing process but it still resulted in sending me back to recovery after I hit reboot
5. So I restored my nandroid. Moved the Rom file to the root of extsdcard and then tried to flash it with cwm. It seemed to flash correctly once again but after I hit reboot, the phone shows the black splash screen with "Samsung galaxy s iii" in white letters then the phone shuts off. That's all that happens when I try to turn my phone on now.
Now normally if this were a HTC phone, I'd boot the phone to bootloader then recovery then restore my back up. But it's a Samsung. I know the volume down/home/power button trick but when I do that with my s3, the caution box pops up.. I hit volume up to by pass it then it just shows a big "downloading" sign that stays there forever. (I've literally left the phone sitting at the "downloading" sign for over an hour and nothing happened.)
So now I'm stuck. I no longer have a solution to get out of this situation. (I suppose this is a soft brick? )
Can anyone offer me any advice?

Use EZ-Recovery to flash CWM 6.0.1.0 and just avoid rom manager next time. Does Beans still use kexec? Could be the issue since the cwm in rom manager doesn't support it.

Yep, kexec rom (kernel) using a recovery that doesn't support it.
not sure if this can help but read this post I made, it may help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842716
Make sure you have the right CWR version which is 6.0.1 or 6.0.2. Don't mess around with flashing things in rom manager.
To get to your recovery you need to use vol up+home+power.
The vol down puts the phone into Download/ODIN mode. It's like the bootloader/hboot screen of HTC phones.
I always super wipe)cache, data, dalvil, system) before any install, nandroid or fresh rom. And then install downloaded apps with tit backup.
To use Bean's nandroids after bootloader unlock, flash a fresh copy of bean first to install kexec, then flash your nandroid.
If I understand correctly, Bean's Custom Build 9 is out and no longer needs kexec. Therefore I can now use CWM 6.0.1.2 as I did earlier and I should have no problems now that kexec is no longer necessary. Can anyone confirm that?

From what I have read in his original post for his new build, it does require an unlock and is running a custom non-kexec kernel, so it I would draw the same conclusion that you are and it should in theory work with the 6.0.1.2 version of CWM.

[Q] How to install CyanogenMod 10.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus

hi folks,
Need information on how to load CM 10.1 Android 4.2.2 on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus.
Currently i have the CM 10 Beta 4 (JB 4.1.2) installed. Current recovery is Recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-ariesve.
I've downloaded these files.
cm-10.1-20130622-dev_connection_team-release2-ariesve.zip
DevCon-gapps-jb-20130622-signed.zip
cwm6032-Build2-ariesve-alireza7991.zip
Kernel_JB-4.2.2_3.4_20130622_Google-4.6_Stock_Signed.zip
When i checked the AriesDevCon team's link and XDA Wiki Samsung SGS+ link there was some confusion.
The Wiki link doesn't say anything about the recovery installation. Should i use Odin to install the CWM6032 or just put it in the SD card and reboot into recovery? I'd used Odin for the 5.5.0.4 recovery.
From the XDA forums on recovery (alireza7991's) saw that i could use Odin to install the recovery first.
Also, what do i do with the 3.4 kernel ? Should i load that too in the SD card before recovery mode for the installation?
My current kernel is 3.0.70.
Could someone with the proper knowledge please guide ? And please provide the exact steps and the files needed.
I've done the CM 10.1 already and it worked pretty well, but was not able to do any upgrade later (to release 2.5 etc). Had my phone soft-bricked two times and had to install the stock Gingerbread ROM to come back to JB 4.1.2 ROM.
regards,
Anoop
The files you got are .ZIP files.
It should be possible to flash these using the recovery. I have To check back for further instructions cause i'm not familiar with the s+ but cwm should be installed automatically when the kernel has be installed.

You have to wipe data and cache, wiping dalvik cache is useless.

It is not necessary to install recovery before every ROM installation. CWM 5.5.0.4 is a stable and safe recovery for our device.
According to the kernel i recommend you to use K^Kernal 3.4.x. It is more battery friendly with good performance.
The procedure is as explained in there
1. Boot in to recovery and
2. flash CWM 6.0.3.2 (if you want to, otherwise skip this) and reboot in to recovery.
3.Wipe data(not necessary when you are coming from a previous build of the same ROM, but recommended), wipe cache, and wipe dalvic cache
4. Flash ROM, Flash Gapps and flash kernel and reboot,
You are done.!
[SOLVED] How to install CyanogenMod 10.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus
Hey folks,
Thanks to all of you for the kind advises!
In fact, i checked for any reply one hour after posting my question and only H3llwar's one reply was visible.
Was too impatient and thought to go ahead with the Modding.
First tried to flash the latest recovery cwm-emmcbrickedpatch-ariesve-6.0.3.2-alireza7991.img using Odin.
This one stuck at one stage (<1> recovery.img download) and didn't move further. So disconnected the USB and removed the battery (I forgot though in what sequence). I expected this to happen since it had happened two times before when trying to flash a non-tar recovery. Also I expected my phone to be soft-bricked, but luckily it did'nt. :good:
Then went through some more info on XDA and other forums and found a WORKED.rar solution.
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30015714&postcount=22
Used that AriesVE.ops version and the recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.0-ariesve.tar.md5 and was able to flash the new recovery.
The reason i flashed the new recovery is that because i always used to find on these forums to use a specific recovery for a specific ROM.
Anyway, then i loaded the CM 10.1 and Gapps into the SD card, set debugging mode on and restarted in Recovery mode.
Then backed up data (Nandroid). Then wiped data/factory reset and wiped cache partition.
Then asked recovery to install from zip card selecting the CM10.1 ROM followed by Gapps. These processes happened very fast this time.
Then rebooted and there it was, a new magenta Cyanogen footer logo along with with the Samsung logo.
Skipped the initial parts and went to the About Phone section with the Android 4.2.2 indication.
Was very happy to also see my Kernel updated to 3.4.49. Three days now on the new ROM and loving it, battery life improved by at least 5% (from the 4.1.2). But missing the 4.1.2 fonts for the clock etc. Although the other internal fonts are smoother and easier on the eye.

Hi, thanks for replying. I cannot post in the topic of the rom because I am new on the forum (what I get when I try to post something overthere).
Could you please explain me how to fix the permissions in CWM?
I am a beginner who been trying to fix his tablet for a week now, but I still dont understand everything since I cant put all my time on it... If its not about following tutorials step by step, i am lost...
I also tried the fast team one, without any success, when the rom is installed and the device is rebooted, this time the screen stay blocked on "samsung galaxy tab3" for years!!!
sorry, i meant the fast dream rom
I just tried to Flash three roms from sammobile.com (one from hong-kong, one from spain and one from germany) through Odin.
Everytime I get I click on AP to load the rom on odin, I get this message:"md5 error! Binary is invalid".
Since I have rooted the tablet using odin to instal CWM, when I boot the tablet in download mode, I can see:
- PRODUCT NAME: SM-T311
- CURRENT BINARY: Cusom
- SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Is it related? Someone help plz...
The question is do i really have to install a new rom, now that the tablet is rooted with CWM on it, can't do any manipulation to allow the chinese rom to accept google playstore etc...
My biggest problem with the chinese rom that comes with it is that i cant install download google playstore, i installed it but everytime i open it, it closes right away. Not google nor other google apps available neither since it was sold in china...

And the fix permissions option should be in 'advanced' section in CWM(not sure, I use TWRP recovery)

Now the problem is that I have a new CWM that works with the volume up, volume down button, and this menu:
- reboot system now
- apply update from ADB
- apply update from external storage
- zipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- apply update from cache
Since the rom is not really good, i wanted to flash another one (one of those we just talked about), but the backup i did with the previous CWM i had (Philz Advanced CWM 6.08.90) is nowhere in the tablet anymore (i dont have any sd card) and i dont know how to make a back up with this CWM...
So now the question is how to make a backup with this version of CWM so I can try to flash other roms, or how to get the version that i had before without takin any risk of brickin the device (so i can make another backup and try to flash another)

Are you sure the new recovery is CWM and not stock recovery?? If you flashed stock ROM, it should've given you stock recovery again...
(Does it show the CWM hat logo in the background?)

Actually, yea its the stock recovery, so should i reroot the phone to install CWM, make a backup just in case, flash another stock rom which i find better, and then try to flash this one in recovery mode?

I installed this rom here with CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2404877
Installation was successful but I get this messages when launching my device:
- setup wizard isn't responding. Do you want to close it?
I close it, then:
- Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped.
I press ok, then:
Unfortunately, Samsung keyboard has stopped.
I press ok then:

Try fix or patch.
Or come back to stock rom.

Yup, I think you'd better to start over again. Try take a look at this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2401901
It works well for my SM-T311 :good: Then you can reroot and make a backup from TWRP easily.
I also suggest you to take a look at this too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522091 From there, you can get PhilZ touch recovery based on CWM v.6.0.4.5

Ok, my problem is resolved now.
- I had to use the previous version of Odin (3.4) to flash a rom from sammobile.com
- Then, I rooted the phone, reinstalling CWM philz version
- I did a backup using CWM
- Finally I flashed the custom rom using CWM
Thank u all for helping

I am trying to get the cwm 6.0.3.6 version for my gt-n8013 so I can flash to kit kat but the links aren't working for me. Does anyone have any other links?
Doesn't work on my Note 10.1" N-8010 with Android 4.1 . Everything seems to work fine after installing CWM (green "PASS" message) but after restarting ODIN MODE is present instead of cwm. Tried in different usb ports both usb 2.0 and 3.0 and no luck.
6.0.4.3
Hi, please can you please update CWM for N8010 to 6.0.4.3? Verry thanks
Or please, how can i install .img via odin please?
Thanks and sorry for bad english
Delete please. Post was automatically put here as I'm to new to post in the Gnabo rom thread. Makes no sense here though.....
Great work! My N8010 is new again . I do miss the haptic feedback while typing, but the benefits of the update outweigh the minor loss. Everything else seems smooth so far. Was the loss of haptic feedback an issue with the software update, or is that just the way it works in this version?
Thanks again!
I've got a boot-loop problem...
Specs:
N8013 - WiFi only
It had CW Recovery Touch 6.0.3.6 installed, I don't remember which ROM it was running, but one day it went in to a boot loop, and I cant seem to get it out of the loop. I can't even seem to get it in to recovery anymore.
When I go to download mode, I can flash a new recovery, (ive tried several methods - this one being the latest I've tried: wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_n8013)
When I reboot the device holding Pwr and Vol+, I see a clockworkmod recovery message at the bottom of the screen that says no file_contexts. (not a quote, as it flashes rather quickly, then reboots)
At this point, I am rather certain that i've bricked the thing...
I've tried numerous recovery images, and each time i try and boot recovery, regardless of whether or not it was CWM, the CWM logo and version 6.0.3.6 appears at the bottom of the screen, even when that is not what I just flashed.
Anyone have any ideas?
PhiLz Recovery v6.0.3.6 touch edition

--> Yeah, I'm having the same download issue. Can see the link, but when you click on it ... it spins and times out! Is there another method of downloading and getting this link or is there a bigger and better build available for the N8013N??
HELP!
Please tell me there is more explanation. I've spent two days trying to find a ROM to install to upgrade past 4.1.2. I have CWM 6.0.1.1 installed and its not working with OMNI or anything else. Please help those of us who spent $600 on a tablet 2 years ago and now can't use apps because Samsung are jerks. The download links you have here are taking me to spam pages. Also, the clockwork page downloads .img files , not .tar or md5. So HELP!!!! I have GT-n8013....
