[Q] Boot loop after installing Gapps - HTC Sensation

Hey,
I'm quite new here, maybe there's an easy solution to that, but I don't know what to do.
I've flashed the CyanogenMod 10 on my HTC Sensation and everything works fine, but as soon as I flash Gapps from the CWM the device enters a boot loop bringing me back to the CWM after rebooting.
J've just tried the newest CM10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782009) and the problem is still the same.
Thank you!
Stan.

Hi,
Are you s-on/off?
Did you flash the ROM and Gapps at the same time?

I'm S-OFF. Yes, I flashed at the same time, first the ROM, then the Gapps

Hi,
Then, there is no reason why it should not work.
I would download ROM and Gapps again, place on the sd card, check md5 checksum.
Format all partitions (except sd card),then, install both again.

Just a question before I start deleting everything - is it possible that this has something to do with the CID number? I have no idea what it is, but I remember that I had to change it once (now it's set to 11111111)

Thanks!

So, here is a fix, follow my steps:
1. DO NOT USE CWM Recovery OR PhilzTouch Recovery, because you will have bootloop with them OR flashing GApps will fail, so u need to use TWRP
2. Copy CM13 ROM to your sdcard1 (extSDCard) and GApps (nano package from opengapps.com, ARM, 6.0)
3. I think it doesn't matter if you have already CM13 ROM or firmware (correct me if it matters), so just do factory reset, clear cache and dalvik cache
4. After that, flash CM13 and GApps at same time (you have option to choose more ZIPs, 1st ROM, 2nd GApps)
5. After that, you will have button "clear cache", click on it
6. Then Reboot your phone
That's it, I've done this on my i9300, I had already installed CM13 and GApps with CWM Recovery (with bootloop) after that I've done these steps..
Sorry for bad English..
Hope this helps...

I have done that, and it works, but I think the gapps install somehow corrupted my data, because after my phone didn't boot I backed up data just in case, and doing this it boots, but when I restore data it doesn't. do you have any ideas?

[Q] Updating ROM via GooManager

Hi All,
I have posted this on the GooManager thread but there hasn't been much activity there recently so asking here as well. Noob question on GooManager...I have the AOKP rom installed on my Sensation and GooManager notifies me of updates to my ROM every now and then. I just want to know if updating my ROM build with GooManager will reset all my custom ROM settings and preferences or will they all be preserved? I'd like to keep my ROM up to date but if it means spending all the time again to setup my preferences and icons/widgets/home screens etc. then I'd rather stick with what I have.
TIA!
I'd recommend to use GooManager only to download the newest ROM and flash it from recovery.
I asume you're using AOKP Swagger from frankenstine, the same I use.
I just download the update from GooManager, boot to recovery, flash ROM, gapps and 4.2 stuff and are ready to go.
All my settings are their after updating - only AdAway needs a reconfiguration and a reboot (and I need to set my alarm clock since I'm overwriting that). Basically you keep all your settings except those you made to the kernel.
Regards

Oh perfect, yes indeed I am using that exact ROM.
OK so when I boot to recovery, I shouldn't do any wiping? Just simply flash the new file? Will the updated gapps package be in the download I get from GooManager?

I only wipe dalvik & cache after each update.
I can't say something about what GooManager downloads as "gapps", I use some I downloaded some weeks ago + some old version of 4.2 stuff. I might need to update my flash-setup too

Thanks lolmachine, for the benefit of anyone who might have the same question as me the following worked:
- Downloaded latest build of my AOKP Rom via GooManager
- Downloaded latest gapps package for my ROM via GooManager
- Boot to Recovery
- Flash new ROM file and then gapps package
- Restart.
My only question is, I didn't wipe davlik and cache so should I, and what difference does it make if I don't?
I used Goo the other day to flash, ummm, bugger, can't remember if it was an update or a new rom.
Oh now I remember, the latest one was an update to Bruce's Rom. I do believe when I tapped flash rom it booted to recovery (the one it installs) and I may have had to select "Install" from there, don't think so though. Either way, I used Goo to handle the install.
I didn't do a wipe. From what I've picked up, wiping is a good way to cover your butt. So if you're having issues and didn't wipe, you go back and do it all again with a wipe. Doing the wipe to start with means you can eliminate those types of issues from the start.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am )
Hi there, I also received an update to my ROM via Goo Manager. It is CyanogenMod 10.1 by Albinoman887 for my HTC Sensation XE. I am using the EXT4 bootloader. I just installed it a few nights ago so I am completely new to rooting. My question is that there is no option to wipe dalvik cach. EXT4 just says wipe cache, wipe data and wipe system. Does wipe cache wipe dalvik cache as well. Also do I need to re-flash gapps as well after updating and will this wipe my gmail accounts etc?
Thanks,
Adam

You want to select "wipe dalvik+cache" option when you flash an update.
There's no need to flash gapps after a ROM update.

Simple.
Go to recovery.
For s-on you must enable smartflash.
Do a nandroid backup.
Dirty flash the update (meaning flash over the previous rom without wiping).
Dirty flash gapps (signed only).
Wipe cache + dalvik.
Reboot.
If it can't boot/run properly then you can just restore the backup or do a clean flash.
First off I'm not experienced in any way, got my Sensation unlocked, rootet and installed Sultanxda's 4.4.2 ROM for sensation. I'm on S-On, too, if anyone wonders.
Updating didnt affect my apps as far as I can tell. Everything seems to be the way as before and everything seems to be working.
What I did was download the ROM manually since the download with goomanager didn't work. I downloaded gapps as backup because I didnt have the zip on my SD, just in case anything would go wrong.
You only need to boot into recovery, with S-On make sure smartflashing or something like that is on, select the zip, flash it and then select wipe cache +dalvik.
It's pretty much what AndroidSupporter318 wrote, just wanted to give feedback and say what I did in detail in case anyone was still wondering.

I guaranted 4EXT Recovery for this type of problem. U don't need to boot into recovery and work with 4ext is very simple.

I have a custom rom, no Gapps, no root. please help

So my cousin had the this tablet she hadn't us for a while and she asked to to fix it up. Root it put some apps on it blah blah blah. So i rooted it using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681155/
Everything was fine and it went smoothly, I had root access, TWRP recovery that it came with and it was working fine.
I wanted to put a ROM on it for my cousin to match her phone so I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584265
So, I flashed the Rom and it was fine. Then I flashed the Gapps and it said that the system partion didn't have enough space.
Here is where I screwed up (I think). TWRP said that I lost root access and i had to fix it BUT i had to swipe a bar at the bottom to fix it. My dumbass pressed the button in the middle of the screen which was to ignore it. I didn't see what i was doing and i messed up
So I lost root or something and when i turn on the device and try to boot into recovery by holding the Power + Vol Down keys it does not work!
Now I have a tablet with android 4.4.3, no Gapps, no root, no recovery. I have tried to factory reset it but the one in settings do not work.
I'm stuck and I need help from someone smarter. Thank you for anything.
Id start again, sounds like something in recovery got messed up if it thinks the system partition is not big enough for gapps
Flash TWRP with Easyflasher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
Download ROM & Gapps to MicroSD Card
I suggest KatKiss #29 & Gapps from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2592890
Factory reset & Wipe everything except External Storage from TWRP
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps
Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache
Reboot
Nothing more nothing less is needed, so if it doesn't work by doing the above, there are other problems
ok so i installed the drivers it easyflasher was asking for and now it asks whether the device is SBK1 or SBK2, how do i find out whether the device is B70 or above... I feel dumb again... It also asks if its in APX mode... i need help again
ok i figured out the easyflasher and i get the recovery but, when im done flashing all the files and boot the device it says that i have to repair root, like before and even if i say to do so i lose the recovery every time meaning i have to go and put the recovery back onto it and do everything again.....
alrighty so ive got the recovery to stick, and i got the KitKatKiss rom which is actually really nice, however i don't have root, i keep trying to flash the supersu file but it does not work. thanks for everything already. it would be nice to have it rooted.......

KatKiss is already rooted by default, you should not flash an additionnal supersu zip.
Just Flash the rom then gapps from the KatKiss thread
wipe cache + dalvik-cache
then reboot.
If you're coming from another rom version, a full wipe / factory reset is recommended before flashing too.

put on your sd card the cm11, and wipe data, cache, dalvik, boot and system partition (deleting system and boot partition you will haven't no rom so no system) and re-flash the rom, or go on download mode flash stock rom and re-try.

Sorry, "boot" option don't exist, go on recovery Wipe-->Advance wipe and select "Dalvik Cache", "System","Cache" and "Data". when you will delete them you will not have any thing on the phone just the download mode and recovery so you must flash a rom to boot up the phone, select the cm11 and flash it.

Click "don't install" or something like this go back and reboot, wait 5-10 minutes for the first boot. it's not possible that it didn't work, are you sure that you are making the correct steps for install a rom ?
First make the 4 wipe and after go back on the menu e and install the rom.

[SOLVED] OnePlus One - Bootloop after flashing any ROM with TWRP

I've installed TWRP 3.1.1-0 using fastboot but every time I try to flash a rom using it, I enter a bootloop ([1+] logo, the phone vibrate and reboot).
I've tried with AOSiP 6.3, AOSPlusOne 250817 and AOSPExtended 4.5. (With and without OpenGapps).
With the following procedure:
-Wipe Dalvik, Data, cache, system.
-Flash ROM
-Flash OpenGapps
-Wipe caches
-Reboot.
Am I doing something wrong ? Skipped a step ? Should I use another Rom/Recovery ?
EDIT: Solved ! Before flashing rom, you need to flash the latest official CM13 and then wipe /system before flashing anything else.
Wanted to say thanks. Your post helped me install a good rom again after unbricking my phone. Surprisingly I couldn't find this simple info elsewhere and also Cyanogenmod 13 is also hard to find cause the whole ROM landscape has changed! For instance Using a latest Lineage OS ROM didn't help either. I had to use TWRP from TugaPower and an outdated CM13 from a shady link to get it to work. Not sure which one did the trick but between one of them

From what I heard, it have something to do with some kind of drivers that are installed with OTA update. Since I disabled them I needed to install the latest official rom from Oneplus

Hi,
Not sure it's the right place to post, tell me if not.
I received the notification for update yesterday and would like to install it. But I'm bootloader unlocked, rooted and with TWRP installed.
I've tried to install it "the normal way" anyway, but after downloading the update via OTA and rebooting, the phone reboots in TWRP and does not install the update through it...
Is there a way to install the update without loosing TWRP, root and data ?

Ok, so I could just do the following steps ?
- Download the ROM by the MIUI updater (which stores the full zip in "downloaded_rom" folder")
- Reboot to TWRP
- Wipe Dalvik/ART and Cache
- Flash the downloaded zip
- Optionally : Flash Magisk to retrieve root
- Reboot
Since my post, I've found this thread for Mi Mix 2 (not 2s) which talk about a LazyFlasher zip...

I'm running V10.3.3.0 with official twrp (3.3.0) and can boot into twrp and install things from there.
(didn't test things like backup/restore though)

Did you do any workaround for installation? I installed it as usual and it gets deleted at reboot (after flashing from 10.2.2 to 10.3.3).

copy ROM to any other folder (e.g. from /sdcard/downloaded_rom to /sdcard), then ROM will not get deleted.
(or even better OTG if you have)

oh, I misunderstood.
this behaviour I had with EVERY update. Just installed twrp again and everything working again.
Same here, but in this last update it gets reverted when I reboot, Whether I let it restart right after flashing twrp or if get into it after flashing. Is also noteworthy that it doesn't prompt me the "partition modification" message.
Is there any "settings" or cache for twrp that can be cleaned to have a "fresh" install? It remembers the time zone so I think it should save some things somewhere
Hm. weird. what I did was fastboot into TWRP and from there install as image from internal storage (or OTG).
(Might be, that I tried another version (v14? v15? from this forum) because I tested a few things because of my phone freezing problems. But I guess this should not make any difference.)
So no black magic here.
The only thing i know: I have it running.
Ok, thanks to both of you for your response.
I'll try to install it and will let you know for TWRP !
@xumixu : have you tried to "reboot to recovery" from TWRP once you've installed it and boot to it from adb ?

No issues reboting into recovery after twrp installation. But once i get into system, recovery partition is factory restored to mi-recovery 3.0
All went good for me !
I've done the following steps :
- Download the full ROM (~1.9 GB) on the official MIUI website
- Reboot to TWRP
- Wipe Dalvik/ART and Cache
- Flash the downloaded zip
- Wipe Dalvik/ART and Cache
- Flash Magisk to retrieve root
- Wipe Dalvik/ART and Cache
- Reboot TO RECOVERY !
- Reboot to system
I've done this going from MIUI v10.2.2.0 to v10.3.3.0 and using the official TWRP 3.2.3.0

tried all those steps and I still end up bootlooped (with magisk 19 and 19.3).
ill back up important data, and make a clean 10.3.3 installation. If it doesnt work with 10.3.3, I'll rollback to 10.2.2
Seems that my rom "setup" was the culprit. Made a clean 10.3.3 install (fastboot mode flash_all.bat), reinstalled twrp, magisk and it booted ok (and twrp stayed togheter with encryption support).
No idea what happened in the update from my 10.2.2 to 10.3.3, but twrp works ok on 10.3.3 with a clean installation
Ok, weird... But good to know that all is ok now
