Is there or will there be a sense base ROM port for the u.s galaxy s3?
Back when I had the T-Mobile s3 months ago there was rumors floating around
That one was being ported to the international galaxy s3 and once
It gets at least a full stable build it might have a port for the us varients
I now have a Verizon s3 and I was just watching the sense port on the
International s3 and was just wondering if there can be a port of that to our
S3 as well? It would be nice..
As of now no but there have been a string of ports for the Verizon version of our phones.

Why would I give you a link to a dozen or so ports when you can just go to the android development section and check the roms out yourself.

He's asking for a link because there have been 0 ports for the Verizon version of our phones.
Don't know why you're sending him to look for them when there are none.

I was basically saying a string of Carrier ports from one carrier version of this phone to another. he didn't get the memo. You didn't get it as well as the creator of the post responding by pointing out the string of ported ROMs from other carriers. In the end it is irrelevant as the creator of this thread got his answer 2 months ago and my first post here was on January 13 2013 and at that time there was a half dozen ported roms from other carriers. Since then there was only 2.
If you're looking for actual sense Roms I don't think there are any, however there are some Roms out there like Hyperdrive, CS Rom and Beans rom that have some features baked in and selectable. For instance you can choose the Sense battery look, Sense recent apps and so on. It all depends on what you're looking for from Sense exactly.
he was looking for a sense rom port it says so in the opening post. At the time he posted this there weren't any. As of now there still isn't any.

There is a difference in the hardware between the US and international versions of the S 3. That makes it difficult to port.

Does any one tried any Roms from other Galaxy S II that works on Skyrocket?
technically speaking... any rom "should" work if it doesn't touch the kernel code.
HOWEVER... any ROM that changes the framework might give you some issues. one example I can already imagine is that the 4G LTE will not be display correctly.

T989 is possible. Only ROMs from GS2 line that running Qualcomm SoCs could possibly port.
Anyone know how long it takes to learn to make custom ROM's? Is there a FAQ about it? Do you need to be a programmer, or just be familiar with the Linux kernel?
And it begins ...
The next sticky in this section needs to be "Recovering after bricking your skyrocket with a i777 ROM" I bet it would quickly become the most popular thread here.

Seriously though, you just need to learn the device hardware/software components, their functions and how they all interact then you should at least be able to tell what will/won't work together.
I don't know squat about how to create a ROM or mod these things, but 5mins of reading tells me that The TSGS2/OGSGS2/ASGS2 Rom's are not interchangeable since the Kernels/Radios aren't compatible due hardware differences.
Shouldn't we only need an original base rom or an ATT ROM dump to get started though? What about rogers & Telus LTE roms? Could we work with those as a base?

Nope, CM7 uses an AOSP based kernel.. the only kernel we have available for the i727 is the stock AT&T kernel.
Patience.. think about this for a second... either create a Rom or get started learning . Development for this monster is inevitable ..

Hello all,
Has there been any word on any custom ROMs for this device? Things like MIUI, Cyanogenmod, for example. I wonder if maybe the ROM developers are waiting for official 7+ ICS builds to be available. Anyway, just wanted to check and make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks!

Hello
i am going to be working on a custom ROM based on stock very soon but i think im the only one as not a lot of people see a point on working on honeycomb as ICS may be available in Q2 but we are not 100% sure as of yet.
and yes you are correct about the matter on waiting for the official ICS update but its also a matter of retrieving the sauce codes from Samsung inc. they seem determined not the share them with the public as they have made an ICS based tab similar to our tab in appearance but totally different as far as the hardware is concerned. The new Samsung galaxy tab 2 it a low grade tab with extreme affordability allowing everyone to taste the sweet ICS within haha
but now Google are saying their is a new version of android coming some time this year called android 5.0 jellybean so that may even boost the development on our device as everyone will be wanting some jellybeans in the tab + haha
kindest regards Joseph Marshall

MIUI and CM7 are both Android2.3 based (definitely not including MIUI v4), we already get superior firmwares.
Actually most custom roms are just modifications of the official firmware. There is only 1 feature I want and the official does not provide. Just to remove items in the recent task list by swiping/clicking X.
Galaxy tab 7.7 ROMS
Has anybody tried to flash one of the galaxy tab 7.7 roms? I think they have about 3 roms over there. It seems as if they're almost identical in hardware, probably the only difference is the screen size.
i tried flashing entire /framework folder and a lot of system apks. bootloop
then I tried flashing only phone and settings .apk, booted but wouldnt open FC.
p6200 Malaysia.
They would need to be ported over. I kind of remember how to do it with an HTC device (EVO and Incredible had almost the exact same hardware) but Samsung I'm not sure of. Need the Android kitchen up and running on your pc to do it. With an HTC device it was pretty much just taking the boot img file off the device with the ROM you want to port and putting it into the other device. There were step by step instructions somewhere on here but I can't find them.
No thanks, not putting anyones boot.img on my device. I'm sure it could be ported. Ive been checking them out, and they are very similar.
I do have dsixdas kitchen. But Im busy with other things at the moment.

For ICS to run on our tabs you would need an ICS kernel, I don't believe the current one will work. My Incredible had to use an EVO ICS kernel in order to use an ICS ROM. The kernel from the 7.7 could be modified since they have similar hardware but I believe you have to have the source code available to do it. I also do not know how to make kernels though there is a tutorial on xda somewhere.
I am also not familar with the my tab or Samsungs software architecture enough to experiment with mine just yet. The only way I know how to make ROMs is using a ROM.zip file found in an RUU, you can use a nandroid backup but they tend to be buggy. The android kitchen pulls the needed images (boot, system, recovery) out of the ROM.zip file (or nandroid backup) to use in building ROMs.
I would suggest that anyone who really wants ROMs for this thing head over to Chef Central on XDA and start learning how to do it themselves. It took me the better part of a day getting the andoid kitchen up and running on my windows laptop and it is a good learning experience. There is a step by step tutoirial on how to get the andoid kitchen installed and how to build roms.

Yeah, I've got the kitchen running on an Ubuntu VM on my PC. I've only used it for my inc though. I guess what I hadn't realized was that Samsung never released the code for our device. Its a shame, I wish I would have looked that up before I decided on this tab. Do any other Samsung devices have similar architecture, besides the already mentioned 7.7?

The Canadian SGH-i497 (ROM appears on sammobile but I cannot find reference to a Canadian Tab2) may support phone calls and sms messaging. I downloaded the Odin ROM from here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=20711
And checked inside and it seems to have the proper files. Since the i497 has practically no support on XDA I have been reluctant to install it. But recently another member posted the ATT 4.1.2 so I was thinking of giving it a try in the near future.
Canadian version is listed on Samsung of Canada but that is about it. No info is given. Why would they release a ROM for a tablet that just doesn't seem to exist?

I just wound up selling mine, wasn't worth it. If I remember right there was a Rom, but it was only a stock one that had the AT&T junk removed.

Do you remember where that was? That's worth a shot...
Now I'm not talking trash or causing drama but I see a lot of of ROMS being cooked up in the m8 forums. Will these be ported over?!
I'm just excited to flash flash flash!
Even though yes they are the same phone.
Porting ROMs can be difficult as some are GSM based and we are CDMA, so sure could port it easily but getting RIL (data/calls) to work is a diff story.
although if you look some ROMs state they are for ALL variants such as this one

Insert Coin ROM is Verizon as well I believe

I wouldn't try android revolution on Verizon. It says in the op "not currently supported for sprint and Verizon". Not sure if he's referring to the fact that it doesn't work, or he is saying that it works but he won't currently fix those variants.

Thank you for this.
I just saw all Variants and assumed.
@OP, sorry.
Ah ok.
Again I'm not tryin to be annoying or pushy but do you assume more ROMS will be pumped out for this lovely device

Just wait for CM. They typically standardize a lot of things on the hardware end and make porting and ROMing in general much easier

There will be plenty of Roms for this phone. Just be patient, it is an art after all.

Yeah, the part that doesn't work (5.0) on Verizon M8's is the radio -- no CDMA/3G/4G support on Verizon phones. (Three guesses how I found that out ...)
