Are you on JellyBam or what ROM do you have, I know my lights are active as long as you touch the screen or flip the phone the sensor turns them on but I want them on all the time and only shut off when I turn the phone off it's what I'm use to?
Capacitive Buttons on the play store may help?

Ok and again are you on JellyBam and know where to look for these settings?

Some ICS ROMs have annoying always-on backlight of the hardware capacitive buttons.
Try one of these to eliminate/dim that :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deskangel.adjbrightness
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim
According to ShortbusDriver none of these work.
Can someone confirm this works - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26195948&postcount=4
No didn't work either....that would have been an awesome fix though lol
did you try to toggle auto brightness on and off ?
lights should turn off when screen is off.
No capacitive lights do go off with screen....just never go off as long as the screen is on.... for example when watching video a movie let's say....capacitive keys stay on and bright as ever
I see, it exists in CM7 as well.
Probably kernel related.

there's a bug in cm7 github for this issue,
I'm pretty sure Team Acid will take care of it.
Yes I'm sure they are on it.....I'm just looking for a way on my own.......
Just use screen filter it has the option built in

Thanks bro, this actually works, but I have to enable it after each button touch.
I put it as the app to launch when double clicking the screen on Apex launcher (currently on Erikmm's MIUI v4).

Do you guys want them off completely or a set amount of time?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
a set amount of time I think (and my idea, too)
I think it should be like 5 seconds.

Timeout please...seemed to be somewhere around 30 secs or so on stock.
edit: now that I reconsider it may have only been like 10 secs top.
I wouldn't mind if the capacitive key lights went off completely but the keys still work....which ever comes first thank you Erik

It's the same on all ICS roms that I have flashed, and I think I have tested them all
Screen filter is a quick fix...and if you enable navigation bar it works fairly well.
I think it might just be my phone but everytime i use the physical keyboard in light the led on the keyboard doesnt turn on but when i use it in the dark they turn on. Has anyone notice this?
ERrr I think the light sensor controls that. Especially if you have it to set auto.
Sent from my XT897 using xda premium
Mine does that, think it is a power saving feature. Uses the sensor by the earpiece much the same way as the auto feature with screen brightness.

It is a feature of the phone. I work for the sprint store, and our rep tried to show us that like it was an actual selling point. If you put your thumb on the sensor between the speaker and the camera the light will come on.

Not to my knowledge, at least not on the stock rom. CM7 had settings you could adjust, I imagine when CM9 hits we will see the same.

I stand corrected, thanks.

So I've noticed this strange bug ever since I've had the phone. Sometimes after turning the screen on, my screen won't register touch input properly - ill try to do my pattern unlock and it'll just jitter around and not work. After turning the screen off and on again its fixed. Anyone else have the same problem? It's happened on stock and every other rom I've used.

Never had the home screen bug happen even once on my device... Its a bit irritating but not that bad. It never happens after the screen has been on, only right when you turn it on
Ah oke. We better pray for the jelly bean update then! Haha

Extreme darkness is a little invalid. Sure, they light up in the dark, but you can also cover the ambient light sensor at the top of the device and they'll come on.
