Hi,
I just got a free tab 2 with a Samsung camera, and have given it to my son to use, playing Agent Dash it often lags to the point where its not really playable, but sometimes its fine which is bizzare, anyway I'm considering rooting it and putting a custom rom on which I'm guessing will help???
Question is If I put some rom on and custom recovery etc can I go back to a stock Samsung recovery and firmware and reset the flash counter should I wish?
Thanks in advance
edit. Also are there any roms which look similar to the Samsung stock one with touchwiz that would perform better?

I"d say you won't get any improvement. Sounds like a app problem. I"d send a note to the developer. There is little difference if any in performance between CM based JB and Stock. Are you on the stock JB ? There is a difference in performance between ICS and JB.
And no , there is no stock ROM that performs better. IN general I'd say the tab performs very well. and problems you see are usually poorly written apps.of which there are a lot

Yeah updated it as soon as I got it yesterday its on P3110XXCLK7, I had another one earlier in the week but that came and the box was smashed up so got it swapped, I only briefly tried that one but it seemed to play fine, I restored this one last night thinking that might help but its come back, I was playing it myself a few hours ago for about 20-30 mins and it was fine, put it on charge and then took it off charge and tried again and it started to lag big time.
If I flash the stock rom via odin over the top it wont affect the flash counter will it? Maybe something got buggered during the update? Having said that it only appears to be this app
I've put a clip of it on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K988t6tgNUM

Falshing stock ROM by Odin will not affect the counter.
I never experience lag on this tablet, but certain apps will mess up any device. If you are having a problem with only one app , check with the developer. if you are not sure what's slowing things down try a cpu analyzer and see what is eating your resources up..
A lot of games now access the web during the game to provide interactive play or offer to sell you things, that can often slow things down.

I updated to Cognition 2.4 and the phone still lags, i have a couple widgets on the home screens and not too many apps, maybe 15-20. Why does it lag and have delays when I'm using it? Why can't it just run smoothly like my wife's iPhone 4? Is it too much to ask for a phone that is supposed to be capable of being a beast, especially after flashing roms to it to make it faster? I always seem to clear my RAM or restart to try to get it to run stable but after a little while it will stall and lag again. Is it fixable or just something I can't get away from with Android?
Try an i9000 ROM.
Such as the one in my sig, or one of the several others.
You'll see a world of difference.

I don't know why you're having problems with the lag. I find no lag with it whatsoever. If you have problems with the lag, try another rom like the previous poster says.
It did lag a little bit. Issues with launcher 2 and some kernel scripts according DG. 2.4.1 Is now live and has addressed these problems. Rom seems very stable and fast as can be
Two answers first the lag is the nature of the beast with roms. Cognition is still in beta because he is using leaked beta source. Some of the releases are amazingly smooth.
Sure iphones are cool and all but can't do nearly as much ie no real multi taking which I'd brutal on ram and cpu

Thanks guys, I'll try the i9000 rom or Cognition 2.4.1. Is anyone else having problems with the market on Cognition 2.4? I can't download or update anything, it gives me an error every time.
sounds like you probably need to revert to your original Android ID.

I had that problem first time around with cog2.4. I had just updated from 2.3, strange it was the first time a cog rom didn't work perfect for me right off the bat ( and I never had to master clear before, just kept stacking new roms on my phone since DG started making them ).
I master cleared with odin ( backup your stuff first ) one clicked back to JF6 master cleared again, one click root, DLed CWM and flashed 2.4cog. Thing works perfect now.

I did do it twice, first before flashing JF6 and once after I had done the one click back to stock. Make sure the phone is up and running when you do your master clear ( I'm not sure if you are doing it, hell I didn't know when I started ). It'll let you know that it has worked.
As far as the market deal, mine would show the little download icon on the notification bar for a half second or less and then never download it, you could go back into market and cancel, try again and still the same thing.
Hello, I've been running xboarder56's rooted GB OTA (not the tweaked one) for about 2 months now with almost no problems. However, my phone slows down and starts getting laggy to the point of being unusable after a day or two, and the frequency seems to be increasing. I don't run many background services. Only rebooting fixes the problem temporarily. I'll try to load a webpage on either opera mobile or the stock browser while listening to music and the music starts skipping and popping while the page loads slower than usual, but after rebooting it's fast again with no skipping.
I've been searching the forums and Google and seen a few others with this problem but can't find a fix for it. I've tried clearing the Dalvik cache (with NVflashed CWM) but it didn't seem to help any. Is this a common problem with LG-based Gingerbread ROMs, and does anyone else here still have this problem? I started having this problem after running my last ROM, CM7 RC1 after a month, and when I switched to my current ROM I did do a full wipe/factory reset. I'm thinking about trying the new-ish CM7.1.0.1 stable ROM or Weapon G2x and am wondering if those have this problem as well. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time!
I have honestly had that problem with every most roms I've tried at some point. Maybe not instantly, but it will eventually start to slow down like you described in which i have to reboot.
Dang. Do you think a fix actually exists for this, or does everyone have this problem? It's strange since I can't find much discussion about this.
It sounds like you have an app gobbling up memory and not releasing it. All Android phones such be rebooted around once a week to keep things nice and tidy.

That's the issue I have with any 2.3.3 builds. But with 2.3.4 straight for 2 days now, hasn't experienced this issue yet. Unlike 2.3.3 that even within a day, it needs a reboot. I think there is a problem with LG's memory management.

It should work fine flashing any zip, but the 5.0.2.0 version of CWM is far better. Flashing it with the One Click tool is a no brainer. Go ahead and update it. It will only take you a few minutes of your time.

I never had to reboot my Nexus One, or even my T-mobile G1.
I've tried just about every rom for the g2x since i got it about a month ago and they are slow down. I'm not on the 2.3.4 rom and it started out great; now its almost unusable.
Anyone know whats wrong?? i'm about to call t-mobile and try to get another phone. I don't understand how they can release phones that just don't work. How can my single core 1ghz Nexus one be faster then this dual core 1ghz phone?

Did anything ever come from this? I'm completely stock, just got this phone the other day. This phone lags harder then my HD2 I just had, which I would have kept if the digitizer didn't go out.
Are you guys on stock? If so then i highly recommend going custom. LG can't code for crap, so lots of stuff that was wrong with this phone has been fixed in the recent custom roms/kernels.
I've had the same issue until i recently switched to Phoenix Blood rom. I recommend it if you want to forget when was the last time you rebooted and still use the phone buttery smooth. I am using Faux kernel and the ROM is rock solid for me. Recently ran and the V6 script(instructions are on the rom's page in development section) with it and now it's even better! Give it a try you would love it;-)

Yeah get on a ROM without any LG coding or framework. If you guys prefer a more stock 2.3.3 feeling I would suggest Bionix Reloaded.
I make it a habit to reboot my phone every night before I sleep.
Howdy hello,
I've been on my Nexus S since GB. Ever since I've rooted and been running custom ROMs. I've had some awesome experiences but some crappy ones at the same time, all of which I attributed to my phone running a custom ROM.
Now I've finally got the new, new stock JB on my device, and after running it for a few weeks, I'm a bit disappointed. The features are nice and all, but there are so many issues I face that make it near unusable. To name a few:
Google Now takes way too long to pull up. At least 5 seconds and even while it's loading the cards, it's very laggy. The search button used to be a quick way for me to search for something, but the is effectively ruined with this lag.
Constantly losing data / connectivity. I know this may be at the carrier level, but I've never had this much trouble. ALSO, in these cases, the phone will often be reporting that it has full bars / full 3g connectivity, so either way the phone is acting screwy. I mean seriously, the one thing I need my phone to do is make a damn phone call, yet it semi-frequently fails to do so.
Apps fail left and right. Today my youtube app crashed in the middle of the first video I pulled up on it. I know this isn't really the OS, but it's part of the stock experience, and I think android should be held responsible.
Just a few minor gripes. I'm just wondering: has anyone else experienced this? I did a full wipe before installing the stock JB rom, and I don't think it could just be root permissions making things go wacky. I may consider re-wiping and only installing a few apps, but I really don't have that much crap installed, so I'm not sure if that's the issue as well.
I saw another post recommending to get a new SIM card from AT&T. I have had mine for a few years, so that could be a possible fix for issue #2, but I don't think that's the entire reason.
Any feedback is welcome. Thanks a lot all.
Stock JB was very laggy on my NS for some reason. Even swipping pages in the home screen was laggy. Some apps would instantly crash, too.
I've been running custom JB roms on my Nexus S, and its been running really well. The only thing is im experiencing the same lag that you do with Google Now. It has caused me to open my browser to do a search, which is disappointing, because in GB and ICS, the Google Search bar was so quick and convenient.

The cards could be taking longer to load because of your flaky connectivity. Can't expect them to load instantly if your data/signal is dying all the time, can you?
Definitely an inferior experience here on stock JB compared to ICS. Really hope Google fix this in an incremental update, as it's a bit silly their second-best phone can't run JB properly.

heh, that's a fair point. I'm not so upset with the cards taking a long time to load as I am that, while they are loading, the OS is very unstable. It's difficult for me to bring up the keyboard and search google while it's trying to load those cards. I can't believe it's not butter

My thoughts exactly . I was excited to get back on stock so I could have a functional phone without any added bells and whistles. New features are nice, but not at this price.
Try running a custom kernel.. Try the thalamus kernel its very stockish and it's SUPER smooth..

I had problems with JB too. There were a few lags, especially with Google Now. Some apps would crash every time I tried to open them, and the launcher crashed every time I tried to change wall paper.

Hmm I can say that AOSP JB is WAYYYY better than ICS. Soon I can port my ROM from the NS4G to the NS.
I have to agree with this. I've used stock JB when it was released, I was wowed by it's smoothness and cool animations. But everything felt a little slow and sluggish coming from ICS custom rom. After switching to Jellybro, JB feels both very fast and smooth. If you feel disappointed with JB, try using custom rom.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
I don't know if you guys with problem tried that yet, but it might be a good idea to do a factory reset. You will lose all your data if not backed up but I'm getting a feeling it could help. JB has only been smoother than ICS for most.
Looking to get an NS soon, but it may help, as others have mentioned to run a custom kernel and bump up the clock speeds a bit.
My N1 is almost perfectly smooth (very little lag and often times none) with JB installed and overclocked.
My GNEX is smooth as butter. (As to be expected). But I guess what I'm saying is, if the N1 can run JB smooth, then the NS should not have any problems.
And while I know AOSP is technically designed to run on multiple devices, only two were in mind when JB was released....the N7 and the GNEX. Everything else is an afterthought in which AOSP may not be fully optimized for the hardware that is pushing it. (Just my opinion).
And another opinion while I'm on my soap box. JB is what ICS should have been.
In my opinion 512 MB of RAM are a tight fit for Jelly Bean. I can just run 3-4 background apps without kill-restart-kill-restart-kill-restart and a constant lag.
I remember some kernels used to have compcache support. Maybe I could try to enable compcache/zram.

I just got my GNex and the difference with JB on this phone is night and day. I didn't think it would be but I'm pleasantly surprised. But yeah. The RAM issue seems to be my biggest gripe with it on the NS. And for some reason, it just dominated my battery. I went through my first cycle on stock with Trinity and managed 3.5 hours of screen time over the course of almost 17 hours and still had a little under 50% remaining. My NS would've been dead long before that with the same usage pattern.....
I run stock JB with Matr1x. It works very very well.

Not to mention it only uses 368 mb of them. If it used the full 512, it would be pretty nice
I'm running Androxide 3.1 and used to run AdamG's custom ROM. Both ran great, no hiccups what so ever, Google now loads very fast, I guess it depends on your GPS and internet connection. My experience with JB is far better than the fastest ICS ROM out there, I believe given enough time, performance will become exceptional.

That can be tweaked a bit with different kernels.
I am running XenonHD 9 + marmite 4.2 kernel. It's stable and smooth. Worth a try.
I was one of the early adopters of the TF700 and purchased mine from Office Depot sometime last summer. It was always laggy, but recently it's been pretty bad.
I've tried several ROMs including stock, CM10.1 and CROMi-X. All have this issue. It sometimes lags in simple tasks, but I've been finding the lag several places, like in the transition to the app drawer and the notification bars. There are lots of choppy transitions everywhere.
Is there anything I can do to fix it? Currently running CM10.1 with bryce's kernel. My bootloader is unlocked and I am rooted with TWRP. I'm at my wits' end and I'm pretty close to flashing stock and selling this thing.
Thanks!

Do you have an sd card in the slot? Try it without Roms shouldn't lag that much. CROMi-X is pretty much lag free for me. You must have something else causing the issue.

No sd card. I think it's a hardware issue similar to this:
http://androidandme.com/2013/06/opi...from-the-best-to-worst-tablet-ive-ever-owned/
It probably has to do with Asus's quality control.
Do you think Squaretrade covers this type of thing? I have a SquareTrade warranty that covers accidental damage stuff.

Thanks!

Lag's still there. I feel like it helped a tiny bit (probably placebo effect) but compared to my stock Nexus 7 and SGS2 with CM10.1, it's choppy and slow.

I got mine for Christmas, and mine seems to slowly be getting worse too. Mine is rather sluggish too, and I'm running completely stock at the moment with no expansion card. I've disabled quite a few of the stock apps, and I'm really not running much on here other than a few games.
It's even worse (might be unrelated to your issue though) if I unlock the device after it has been asleep for a while, sometimes I can't do anything for several minutes. It seems like it's checking for updates, e-mails, and notifications on every single app, because it would often spam me with notifications, particularly for the Facebook Messenger app, which I have recently removed. I made sure to turn off automatic updates and notifications for many apps, because it would start to update apps right after unlocking it, rendering it nearly unusable until it finished. I have the GreenPower battery manager app to help with battery life, which actually may make the problem worse because it forces WiFi to stay off after asleep for a while, so it can't update apps or get notifications until I unlock it.
I will look into the LagFix app.

If you are on stock check out Greenify. That's probably the most intelligent app to manage resources I have encountered. It's especially helpful with these pesky background services that think they have to run at all times.
It exists as an app in the Play Store (the paid version allows you to hibernate system apps and services - or those installed as such... like FB is on many systems), or as a module for Xposed Framework.
You do need root for this to run.
Another interesting way to speed up stock systems may be Xposed Framework. I just started to look into it - cannot say that much about it yet. But definitely worth looking into.
And then there's always the good old factory reset which does help clearing out accumulated crud. Yes, it's a pain to set up everything again, but if you're system becomes almost unusable it's a must try.
Again, if you are rooted you can use Titanium Backup to backup and restore your user apps, and if you are using a custom launcher like ADW, Apex or Nova, they all have a backup function and make it easy to restore your home screen setup.
I did a total clean install yesterday night while watching a movie and was done with it before it finished.

When did you do your last clean installation? Meaning wiping everything: system, data, cache and Dalvik before installing the ROM again and then only restoring user apps from backup - no system data!
If you lag that bad on a custom rom like CM 10.1 or CromiX, it's your setup, not the tablet or rom.

Still on stock 4.1.1, was one of the very first people who bought it (a few weeks before the official release). Mine's not slowing down at all. 4.2 did cause some serious lag issues for people, on both the TF700 and the Nexus 7. (And yes, I use it daily.)
Maybe try going back to 4.1.1? I am quite happy with my decision to wait for others to try it first...
@berndblb: I know you were replying to Castun, but just to rule it out, my last totally clean install was not long ago. I also just did a factory reset in TWRP. Still laggy sometimes. Also, if I have it in any other mode except for Performance, it lags even worse...
I just now realized that my dock doesn't work, either. And I JUST did a factory reset and didn't restore any apps! It only works in safe mode, which doesn't make sense because I don't have any extra apps when I'm not in safe mode.
But yeah, I'm going to flash back to stock 4.2 and see if it's fixed. If not, I'll try 4.1. If push comes to shove, I'll sell it...
I also tried Greenify, but it didn't really do anything because all I have are system apps.
I flashed stock 4.2 and it fixed a lot of the lag. The device works pretty well now. Thanks for that suggestion, not a bad one! haha
Anyway, I have another small question in addition to this:
If I DO decide I still want to sell it, what's a good way to unroot, flash stock recovery, and relock the bootloader (if possible)? If I do, will I be able to recieve OTA updates? Thanks!

Flashing the complete stock firmware automatically unroots and restores stock recovery. Relocking the bootloader does not re-enable OTA updates or manufacturer warranty, so it's useless to try.
I got Gt-i5800 for free a couple of days ago.. locked..no sim..slow. Wiping and updating to 2.3 through samsung kies and using orange sim sorted my problem.
I noticed it came stock with a youtube app and also that video didnt work online, but i'm finding many games to be unplayable. Backgrounds missing and white boxes where floating objects would be. Interestingly plague inc works near perfect(no map colour)
It doesn't support flash and it seems to be missing chunks of openGL libraries(the phone in general, not just mine)
..So is this phone really as bad as I think? Spica seemed much more accessible
Hope I'm wrong

It's OK.. I'm saying I got the phone with samsung's stock 2.2 and updated it to 2.3 through samsung kies.. I expected that to fix video/graphics but all it seems to have done is colour my menu and take up nearly all phone storage (after play/apps updates)
..So I guess I'm asking 'Is this normal?' I wanna check everyone else's phone was as useless as mine, before I go flashing roms and potentially making it worse
If its not cyanogenmod, its not 2.3. There is no 2.3 through kies on this device. But I noticed no probs with cyanogenmod

 My bad.. I meant 2.1 to 2.2..
I was thinking of getting Cy's mod. Does it increase gaming performance at all? Can't seem to get my head round this open gl thing. Pretty sure it's just drivers missing, but the way it looks now(nearly no apps work) theres no java, html or flash support.

I am using Cyanogen Mod 7 (2.3) and it's pretty fast and my battery lasts double than that of 2.2, I don't if this happens to anyone else too.
The gaming performance will probably be reduced since the drivers were not 100% implemented. A few games work without lag.
All my apps work without any issue.
Lol galaxy gt-i5800 isn't really usefull for gaming it has a very slow processor and just switching through taps and apps let it laggs :l If you want to do a lot with your phone then you need to buy a better one
It's working fine (the d/l bar just reset once on odin) installing kyrillos 9!
