[Q] Google play compatibility issue, changing build.prop does not help - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I had some compatibility issues with my tablet and Google Play not showing a lot of games, so i have decided to do the most common fix - changing build.prop to spoof other device. I have changed it to Nexus 7, rebooted, and cleaned cache/data of google play.
Point is, the google play is still showing me the same exact apps as before, and all the apps that were incompatible are still incompatible.
Any idea what should i do? Thanks in advance.

No i havent, since Nexus 7 have default density 160 dpi, and mine tablet also had 160 dpi.
I have changed only Model and brand, since guides said that is enough. Also, the device truly is identified as Nexus 7 (when connected by usb, in antutu,...)

[Q] store apps device compatibility

I have an r800x which I cant seem to download some simple apps that shouldent have issues. very simple games like tiny tower can be installed via .apk but when searched in play store it comes up with an error. This is just one example. The "Your device isn't compatible with this version." on store is annoying when I have to go find the apk from somewhere else..
I've read about lcd density changers but I don't think its changed. I also unlocked bootloader and flashed custom kernel with custom rom a week previous to this disappearing apps in store problem. Also a friend is having same problem with his locked/rooted r800a.
In short I want to see ALL apps in the play store for every device regardless of compatibility or a way to remove the error.
Here are a couple things you can do:
-Try the app ChainFire3D. It is free but there is also a paid version which may help you more. It has an option to attempt to patch the market to show apps that may not appear for your device (again, not sure if the free version has this, but worth a shot).
-You can also try to go to Settings>Apps>All apps, then look for Google Play and wipe the cache; then try to search for apps. On another note, I once had this same exact problem. It was due me changing my screen density. I changed it back to 240, wiped Google Play data, then it worked beautifully.
- If you still have an issue, try getting an app that will allow you to change your density and try the level 240 (I think it is the same on all devices). Then wipe Play's data and try.
chainfire3d was one of the ones not compatable so I couldent download it easy from market or I would have tryed it. thx tho
I used an lcd density changer pro app to goto the 240 and that seemed to fix the problems. For some reason it was on 210. ty.

Delete your Google account from accounts & sync.
Reboot to recovery, wipe Cache +dalvik.
Reboot.
Add your Google account.
Do this, and it should be fine.
Thank you kgs1992. Worked like a charm on my vzw GSIII after I restored from Titanium Backup and got the 491 error. Found your answer thru a google search. Thanks again.

So is this essentially the same as a 403 and 927 then? Or just same remedy...

It's the only solution to most play store errors.
This should solve it, unless you've modified something or you're using a modified version of play store.

Just recently I came across this error more frequently. This only happend to on 4.1.2. Either on Stock Rom or Custom. Happend on my Note 2,the Note 10.1 and on my gf's SGS-2. Until then, having different phones over the years, different Android Versions, I never saw this error. Since its multiple Phlnes, Tablets and Roms over the years, there is no common connection what this could be. Except the Playstore and Android 4.1.2.
Any thoughts on that?

It could be some versions of Google Play services I think.
Changing your lcd density is one major cause.
Sometimes changing Roms without wiping triggers it too.
Hard to point out a single culprit when there are so many possible triggers for play store errors.

I always wipe for different Roms. But out of curiosity, what has changing LCD density to do with that error? Really strikes me odd that something like that could have anything to do with such an error.
However, it seems likely that Google screwed something up with theit Market Services, at least with 4.1.2. Didnt notice that error in other Android Versions.

I'm not sure myself.
Changing density makes some apps unavailable to you on most versions of play store, but on some versions, the app is still available, but downloading it causes an error.

It recently happens to both our phones (NOTE 2, SGS-2) and the tablet (NOTE 10.1) a lot. All have 4.1.2 running, different ROM's though. And every time deleting the Play Store data, removing the Google account and going into CWM for clearing Cache and Dalvik Cache is not an acceptable solution.
Why is this coming so often recently ?
---------- Post added at 05:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:23 PM ----------
I found this as a possible solution, among several so called solutions which didn't work for most people. I tried that.

It works for me again, however I don't see the point that I would need to do that when my native language is a different one. If thats a solution indeed, then surely Google screwed something major up. They can't expect people to switch language to English (US) just for that.

you :good: man
that's work with me ...
I want to know why this error happens.
I've had it before and wiping dalvik and cache worked after deleting google account and then re-adding it
However, that was 2 weeks ago and I downloaded some stuff but it's back again and constantly wiping and re-adding is some super BS.
Is there something I can do or anyone can do to get to the bottom of this?
It would help if we knew what exactly error 491 means as well so we could track it down better and squash this.

Exactly, because the solution everyone says is only a temporary solution at best. And annoying to do everytime. But why does this Error come back all the time and why did I never witness this error over the years before. Only recently in months.

have you tried actually using another google account? (just a suggestion)
i too faced a problem with google play after i restore back my apps using titanium backup
and google play wouldn't let me download any file.
I just removed my google account and added it back.
it works.

Yes, that works but its not the point. It'll come back, that error. And how often is doing that the point when there is no permanent fix ? I think, and I am really not good with stuff like that so I can't say anything I am really sure about, it is actually a problem with permissions. I am running the ARHD 8.0 on my Note 10.1 and the OMEGA v17 on my Note 2. Two different devices, two different Android Roms.
And yet, after (several times a week) get this Error, I go into CWM and "Fix Permissions". After reboot my Updates start working again on the Market. Until next time. I dont know if that has something to do with it, but it seems too big of a coincidence to just be random, if the "temporary" solution by "Fix Permissions" is making it work again.
I have no idea why that is but I don't seem to be the only one with that Problem as it seems. I dont know if what I assume has any value or is just an assumption but I think it might be worth thinking about it. However, why 2 different Roms on 2 different devices seem to have that problem in common I really dont know.

Thanks man, I will try that. I just did that Permission thing 10 minutes ago, so I won't see the difference right now. But if the Problem does not come back, I for sure owe you a beer.
Cheers
Wolfseye
P.S: However, by doing that I disable Google Location services entirely. Isn't that kinda counter productive in case of other location dependent things going on ?
Worked for a while, now I get the same error again. Even though Location Services are still deactivated. This is one hell of a annoying error and persistent like hell.
If that continues I will go back to Stock Rom since I have never seen that on my gf's stock SGS-2 yet. Wonder if thats only custom Rom related. Really making me wanna buy and ..... no I wont say it.

I just rebooted and it all works normal now.
At first I thought wow! Another error but I just remembered I had tb clear the cache for all my apps and dalvic. So just rebooted. No deleting or fixing permissions

[Q] change device in build.prop

Hi, i'm on stock jb and i tyred to edit build.prop to show tf300t as nexus 7 but after reboot my device is always tf300t. In build.prop there are no traces of tf300t. There are some hidden file that show my tablet as tf300t?
I'm honestly not sure but I'm curious why you would want to do this?

Plants VS Zombies 2 Lollipop 5.0.1

I used to play PVZ2 a lot back on 4.4.4 KitKat, and I had noticed that I hadn't seen an update for the game in forever. So I though maybe they removed it? Which wouldn't make sense. So I searched in the Play Store and... Nothing. I then googled the game and I found the Play Store link, and clicked it and it said "device incompatible with this version"...? I installed it before and it played, and it still plays. I'm on 5.0.1 stock Lollipop and I'm wondering if anyone else plays it and is getting updates? I can back door update it, but why does it say it isn't compatible? This is a Nexus device, it should work. Is it Lollipop? Or did they discontinue Lollipop support on the N5? Which would make sense to me...
Anyone play it and know what's going on?

It is compatible with our device. Most likely you altered the DPI of your screen which causes compatibility issues with certain apps, or perhaps some other root level modification.

No... I have a completely stock 5.0.1 Lollipop, no modifications or customizations. The only thing I have is root to get rid of ads and backup my apps.
So it is in your play store?
And I know it IS compatible, well, it was for me anyways, which is why I was asking since I found it really weird.

Play store apps "not compatible"

Came across 2 apps today that I get "your device isn't compatible with this version" messages. These are 2 apps I use on my axon 7 with Android 7.0 so I know they work with nougat. I've tried deleting the cache and data for the play store and Google services but still the same. Anyone have this issue or any ideas on how to stop it? Also can anyone else check the "apple music" app and see if they can install it?

Some apps just won't be compatible until the developer(s) make the app compatible specifically for the Mate 9. However, I was able to download the Apple Music app.

Well that's interesting. I'm running the us version of the phone fully stock so what would be preventing me from installing it? My play store version is 7.5.08.M-all Phone software MHA-L29567B138

Are these 2 apps on Play Store the same versions of those you used on your axon 7 with Android 7.0?
As I know, some apps will not work with Android 7.0 until their developers have distributed the latest versions and have made them compatible with nougat.
Yes, in fact I just uninstalled them on my axon 7 and reinstalled them to verify them

Decided to reset the phone this morning and see if that fixed it. Before any updates took I was able to install the 2 apps showing as incompatible, however after about 10 minutes they went back to "your device isn't compatible with this version". I uninstalled the updates to the Google Play Store as well as Google Play Services and they still said "your device isn't compatible with this version" even though I checked the Play store build number and it was the same before the update and after uninstalling the update. Some update somewhere is causing a compatibility issue and I'm not sure what it is. I may have to reset the device again and not update any of the built in apps like Gmail, Youtube, etc. and hopefully catch whats causing it.
Edit: Reset again and everything was fine. Google play store was on version 7.4.12.L.all [0] [pr] 144479971 and remained there. Installed one of the apps I was having trouble with then updated system apps one at a time. After each system app I checked the other incompatible app and everything was good. Then after updating google maps the app went back to "your device isn't compatible with this version" so I uninstalled the maps update and cleared the cache and data and the app remained "your device isn't compatible with this version" . The play store stayed on version 7.4.12.L.all [0] [pr] 144479971 and play services never updated from what I could tell. This and some of the software bugs are becoming a bit aggravating. Really hoping the update comes soon and fixes some of the issues.
It's a DPI issue...You have to set display view to large, then install whatever apps you want, then set back to small or medium. That should fix for you.

Well I was hoping that would fix it but it didn't. I set the display view to large, rebooted. That didn't work so I cleared the play store and play services cache and that didn't do it either. Lastly I cleared the play store and play services data and rebooted and that didn't work either.
I'm not sure what's causing it since both the play store and play services are the exact same versions on my mate 9 and axon 7.
Edit: OK this is just stupid. I put the view back to small and font back to normal (where I've had it this whole time except to try the above fix) and now the app allowed me to install it. I don't know what fixes it but at least it's working lol.

Having this same issue with Amazon Store App. Works fine on my PixelXL and Nexus 6P...but for some strange reason, I cannot install it on my Mate 9. Go figure. It's really the ONLY app I'm having this issue with. All my other play store apps installed fine, and my settings and logins work fine. But for the life of me - I cannot install the Amazon Store app, even thought I have successfully installed the Amazon Kindle app. too strange....

Have you tried changing the display size? That definitely has something to do with it and even though for me it didnt work at first it definitely solved the issue. Change it to large, reboot and try, if no go wipe the play store data and play services data and reboot and try again. Keep changing the display size after that and eventually it will work. For me I had given up and set my device back to small which is where it originally was and out of nowhere it worked.
Now if they could just resolve Hulu without having to contact customer service things would be great.
